hi, I'm new here. so i'm kinda curious about the level. so the Big Q's are:
How old are you?
do you play international?
do you play with feather shuttles? (95% of teh time)
can you do a backhand clear line-line?
can you do a backhand smash( about as hard as a wrist-only-smash)
tel me/us about a age/level milestone..
i'm 16, and i play (in Holland) in the C class (dunno if C is this high everywhere).
no international, always feather. i recently learned a backhand smash('discovered' i coudl do it, would be more apropriate) and thus also teh clear.
what about you?

*tumbleweed rolls past*
These forums have many members, with a full spectrum of skill levels. We have complete beginners, world champions, and international coaches :)
Note that any sample you get here is not likely to be representative. I guess it will be biased towards the higher end of ability. Generally people like to boast more than humble themselves in public.
Also note that players are often poor judges of their skill. For example, many players *think* they can do full length backhand clears, but actually don't make more than half length.

How old are you? I turn 34 next week
do you play international? nope
do you play with feather shuttles? 99% feather
can you do a backhand clear line-line? Yep. Cross court. Couple guys int he forumhave seem it.
can you do a backhand smash: Yep. Cooler laments that it's harder than his forehand smash.
I might play national/international masters when I'm 35 and if my knees hold up. After 4 knee surgeries my best days are behind me, but I can still crank the bird pretty hard.

can you do a backhand clear line-line? crosscourt too
can you do a backhand smash( about as hard as a wrist-only-smash) yup, love my lefty backhand.
tel me/us about a age/level milestone.. I'm still young, thinking more about school, but looking forward to being a professional player on the side.

alright lets see...
- How old are you? 17
- do you play international? nope
- do you play with feather shuttles? (95% of teh time) eh well 50% of the time feather and then 50% of the time nylon just depends on who i go play with...
-can you do a backhand clear line-line? yeah, usually can get the corsscourt going to.
-can you do a backhand smash( about as hard as a wrist-only-smash) haha well my backhand smash is not really that good...ill stick to the forehand. (kinda hard to judge by wrist only smash cause ive seen some fast ones...)
-tell me/us about a age/level milestone...school damn IB so much work that keeps me back and my stupid tendon injury i have not fully recovered well techinally i have cause its better but it just does not feel the same and can act up at times which sucks.

Good enough questions.
How old are you?
24
do you play international?
Hell no. Do I play national? Hell no.
do you play with feather shuttles? (95% of teh time)
100% of the time.
can you do a backhand clear line-line?
When I get it right it isn't too much effort, I still have some minor timing and technique issues (still practising this). Consistency is an issue due to mostly movement technique.
can you do a backhand smash( about as hard as a wrist-only-smash)?
I cannot do a backhand smash unless it is fairly set up. That essentially makes it uncommon for me to have to play one. I can do an all wrist forehand smash pretty sharply, but as for backhand it is a lot weaker even if it is still sorta sharp. I was encouraged to train to move around a backhand smash where possible rather than to perform one at this stage.
Basically I'd rate myself as an Beginner-Intermediate at club level.

How old are you? 16
do you play international? no
do you play with feather shuttles? 100%
can you do a backhand clear line-line? NO. I depend on my round-the-head...sometimes too much
can you do a backhand smash? NO also...but yes if you are just talking about net kills...:o
So...I should be classified into a "beginner"...:crying:

You young whipper snapper!! 34!!!

"When" you're 35, we should go down for the Washington Open Masters. Hummm, then means it has to be WA Open May 2007! :D
I better start training! Cheers!

How old are you?
I am 16.
do you play international?
No, but I hope someday I will.
do you play with feather shuttles?
Certainly! But if the opponent or my partner wants to play plastic, I dont mind. Not such a big deal.
can you do a backhand clear line-line?
I can back-hand clear but not exactly line-to-line. My backhand is pretty stronge. I had one year of weight training and I worked my backhand muscle more than the forehand.
can you do a backhand smash( about as hard as a wrist-only-smash)
No, too difficult because I try not to use backhands. I want to work on my forearm more. It's redicilous for me to risk it with a backhand smash when I can just run to in and do a wrist-smash.
tel me/us about a age/level milestone..
Well, I consider myself intermediate. Been playing badminton with my brothers ever since I was in Junior High. I consider myself an intermediate because I am certainly not a beginer, I know my moves and sometimes I give some tips to my badminton team in school. And sometime showing them how to do some drills :D

God, how much i envy you people for living in a badminton-country...
Here, in the Netherlands, there are only 10 REAL clubs that rarely produce an international player: Dicky palyama, Mia audina and Joa Yie...all play for Holland, none are really dutch...less familiar: Karina de Wit, Judith Meulendijks, Gerben Bruistens are reall dutch people..but that's it..
a school badminton team? HA, i had a school badminton team..brought up for 2 days..me and teh other dude were the only ones who actually could clear/smash/drop/have a shot selection bigger than 2(strait high clear halfway,a "cross" version)
btw, somedudeinblue. i agree with you that an around the head is better than a backhand, if you can reach it it's ALWAYS better. but i 'recently'(previous season) actually practised itand i can now produce a clear; overhead i can reach teh end, when defending (hitting it low) i can get it halfway. the B-smash, i only do that in a for-shits-and-giggles-game. especially since i can ,85% of the times, around-the-head-smash a weak lob withing 2 inches of the line.

btw, somedudeinblue. i agree with you that an around the head is better than a backhand, if you can reach it it's ALWAYS better.
I don't know man, some shots I can barely reach around the head to make a straight smash or clear, but if i go backhand the whole court is available to me. At the same time less footwork is required. I just think it really depends on your playing style and how strong your backhand is. But one down side is that you have your back to the opponent and you have to consciously turn back very fast when you play a backhand.;)

well...yes indeed..if you can reach itthe around the head is better. so the problem is (for me, intermdiate) is to guess whether or not i can make it using ATH (around the head)
but when defending, it is indeed nice to be able to do a backhand. you can reach further, easier steps, and saves you time if you keep your balance.
but, until i reach taufiks level (kidding, of course) my shot selection will always be better with an ATH (harder, tighter, and ability to reverse)

How old ? 45  but absolutely refuse to accept the fact ! (anyone here older ??)
International - :D
Backhand clear/smash - Clear? yeah when I get it right. Never really consider a b/h smash TBH I'm a round the head kinda guy almost always for both clear and smash (err.. unless I'm tired or slow or caught out which I suppose is most often the case :D )
Milestones - well had a couple of Veterans County matches last season (sign of desperation :D ). Didn't win any games was nice to be asked though but have sorted out a health problem and am back down the gym this year so hpping for a better season this year :)

1 - 47 going on 18
2 I've played in HK.. so I guess yes.. (hehehe)
3 feather - 100% altho I don't get the connection between feather and quality of the player..
4 back hand clear line - line: no only about 80% of the court.. usually try to do the overhead forehand..
5 back hand smash - yes.. only about 50% of my forehand smash..
but what does this tell you...?? absolutely nothing, have played with people with precise placement abilities.. and all they needed was to clear (forehand) and lift tactically and they beat the bull strong forehand/backhand cross court smasher... LOL!!!
I see a grasshopper... ;)
