This year seems to be not too good a year for major IBF tournaments as some of them came too close to each other thereby making it difficult for players and countries to decide which ones to participate in and which to avoid. Those tournaments which come after such major events like the WC will suffer in the sense that fewer stars will participate.

The question of peaking at the right time for majors, the danger of players getting stale with overtraining and getting injured along the way. The clashing of important dates with local domestic tournaments as is the case now with China not sending players to even the prestigious 6* Indonesian Open to prepare for their National Tournament involving the provinces. Then there is the question of how to obtain WR points effectively, etc, etc.

I wonder whether the IBF is given the timetables of members' domestic tournaments beforehand and coordinate with the countries concerned to ensure a better scheduling of IBF tournaments.

Given a chance to look into the re-scheduling of major IBF tournaments, how would you approach the matter? Would you look at it from the point of view of the following criteria and how would you go about it:

1. Prize-money, eg star status, 1*, 2*, 3*, 4* 5* 6* 7* (WC, Olympics, Thomas/Uber/Sudirman Cups)

2. On a continental basis, starting with the Americas, Europe, Africa?, Asia, Oceania.

3. According to the seasons, spring, summer and autumn perhaps being preferred to winter.

4. Other ????

It will definitely be difficult to come up with a schedule that can please everybody as not all the players have the same qualities, goals and objectives.

But do give it a shot! :p

I think a good start would be to reconsider the prize money for GP tournaments and make them higher.
There are too many GP events now, and quite a few 6*...
