Exciting match between Yogendran and Sony.
Sony leads 5-2 in the 2nd game. Commentator Ivana Lie praise Yogendran as a 'dangerous player' if only he has better smash. Yogendran indeed play good, but also often make unforced errors.

I talked to coach Joko and Sony recently at the WC and asked them about Simon Santoso, and they both said *technique-wise*, Simon is *at least the same* or maybe *even better* than Taufik. But he just lacks in experience and mental strength...
It should be an entertaining match, unfortunately Simon has to meet Taufik very early again..

We have 3 pairs in the quarter-final and one guaranteed place in the semis. The Thai pair is improving and have shown good progress this year. They suprisingly beat Zhang Jun/Gao Ling in the Malaysia Open 2005. A real threat to Nova/Butet indeed.

i have a question.actually who is the opponent for choong hann in 2nd round?
if refer to the result before, japanese Shinya Ohtsuka should have been lost to Indonesian Ali Rasmara.
but as what i saw in the result for second round, choong hann beat Ohtsuka by 15-5,15-6:confused:

I think there was a mistake for yesterday result esp for shinya ohtsuka, he won, today he lost to wong chong han, i hv compared from 2 sources and stated Wong Choong Han bt Shinya Ohtsuka, so yesterday was a mistake.

below is the link for draw

Taufik loses to Simon in RI Open

JAKARTA (JP): Olympic Champion Taufik Hidayat "surrendered" on Thursday to compatriot Simon Santoso in the third round of the Djarum Indonesia Open 2005 in a match that may not reflect fair play.

World No. 7 Taufik, 24, lost 12-15, 5-15 to his junior Simon, 20, as Taufik only really fought in the first game, but he gave up the second game to the World No. 40 Simon. The game ended controversially as Taufik was unwilling to return Simon's serve and intentionally put the shuttlecock into the net. (Moch. N. Kurniawan/*)

With Taufik around, the odds for Indonesia retaining the MS title is quite high. With just Sony and Simon, the odds are at least halved. I think with Sony, Indonesia is very much still in the fight. Don't know much about Simon, but if he can beat Taufik (even if just one set), then we shall see his next match. Boonsak will be a good measure.

For Malaysian players, most players live up to their seedings, except Kuan, LeeTS & Roslin. Surprises are from WongMC & YeohKB as they were not expected to go far. With their at least QF appearance, this will earn them 2970 points from this 6 star championship. Hopefully, WongMC is manage to break into top 20 very soon. YeohKB did give KJ a run of his money in Japan Open this year and hope that he will manage to put on another great show tomorrow.

what for? set the new line of indonesian MS player? anyway... now i'm worry if indonesia will lost the MS title

Let's hope it will be Simon. I watched him play against the Korean in the first round, and he's really superb! No wonder he can beat Taufik.

After the match, Taufik said Simon deserve to win. According to Taufik, Simon's technique is good already, he just need to "strengthen his mental".

Congrat Simon!

So that in future Simon can be seeded and gets favourable draw, instead of meeting tough opponent as early as 1st or 2nd round.

Roslin withdrew from the tournament, so can't say he didn't live up to his seeding. Kuan did not justify his seeding, but at least he lost to another Malaysian, Yeoh, who reputedly is good against other Malaysians. As for Lee TS, well ... he is not at his prime anymore and at least, the country don't have to depend on him for the team tournaments.

For Lee CW to justify his seeding, he will have to get past Lee HI and Sony. Not an enviable task.

Despite TH lost to Simon, I still think an Indonesian will win MS (eventhough I am Msian and support Malaysian). It is because the championship is held in INDONESIA and Sony has just won AC and I think he has slowly regained his form. WCH may have difficulty to get pass him as he lost to Sony in TC last year (and now his form has dropped compared to that time). If LCW could win over Sony, he still needs to face KJ (if he lived up to his seeding). KJ won most of their recent matches.

there's must be a reason why taufik lost....

The reason why taufik lost is : Simon plays exceptionally well.

from detiksports

"Saya hanya bermain lepas dan nothing to lose. Mudah-mudahan melawan Bonsak besok saya juga bisa berbuat terbaik," tandasnya.

Certainly not when he had a chance of winning a sixth IO title in a row and mark History!!

I dont believe it !! TAUFIK LOST ????:crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:

What a big surprise ! I'm REALLY DISAPPOINTED by this ...
hope he didn't lose it on purpose just to give SIMON a chance to lift up his world ranking, unfortunately can't see their match live..AND hope his " childish " attitude not back again, coz obviously he showed his maturity during recent WC.

If SIMON is exceptional good as Taufik commented, then is a good news for Indonesia coz they don't always depend on Taufik alone for MS, the other is SONY, he's now back to his form after winning ABC

OK, if anyone doesn't mind, i will translate this article to those who don't understand Indonesian..

It was a really surprising result in a well fought and thrilling match for all the people. From reporters to badminton fans who filled almost half of Istora Senayan, Thursday evening(22/9/2005)

Simon Santoso, showed his brilliance and captivated the audience, by leading Taufik in the 1st game 5-0. Eventhough Taufik was able to even the score at 12 all, Ami Gumelar's boyfriend had to relinquish the 1st game with a score of 12-5.

The same exact thing happened in the 2nd game. With a more accurate precise, Simon was able to lead with a score of 7-1. However in the 2nd game, Taufik didn't appear to put much effort in retreating the shuttles back, as he did in the 1st game.

The Pangalengan born shuttler(Taufik), had to acknowledge his score at 5, after he failed to return Simon's short serve. The match ended at 5-15. A victory for Simon who is now 20 yrs. old.

"Anything can happen on the court. One can win or lose. If I didn't put all of my effort, then why would I even play", said Taufik to a reporter who asked him why he didn't play like he usually does.

According to Taufik, in his just finished match, Simon deserved to win. In reality, his junior already had a much improved technique than before. "Simon's technique is already good, just need to strengthen his heart(fighting spirit)" said Taufik.

Simon himself felt very happy with his win over Taufik. Especially, after Taufik won the World Championship in the U.S. a while ago.

"Of course I'm happy and grateful. Never imagine i would've won. I even ask myself, did i really win?" said Simon, who lost to Taufik in their 3 previous meeting.

"I just played loosely and -nothing to lose-. Hopefully in tomorrow's match against Boonsak, i can also do my best" said Simon

My take on this:Now with Taufik out of the tourney, the MS title is basically up for grabs. Whatever Taufik's reason(s) for why he lost, i still think he is the better player as i'm still not sold on Simon *yet*, as he has to prove he can win numerous tourneys after this. This lost also proves, again, that what Taufik's other teammates say about him of being "moody"(angin2an) when playing is true. And also what coach Joko and Sony said about Simon "having an equal or even better technique than Taufik" is true. Like i mentioned in my other post, whether Taufik will win this tourney, it all depends whether Taufik's playing attitude is lackadaisical and lazy. It could also be, he felt with the absence of the top China's players, as well as Peter Gade, playing in this tournament as well as , thus he felt there is "not much competition", eventhough he said it himself that "the competition is still tough" and he would like to get his 6th title...blablabla...
Anyways, it's past and Taufik can try again next year. He now has to prepare for the upcoming China Open, as it will be the last "big" tourney this year.
On a positive note, with this win for Simon, hopefully it'll add a 3rd tier for their MS squad in preparation for next year's Thomas Cup. :)

The reason why taufik lost is : Simon plays exceptionally well.

from detiksports

"Saya hanya bermain lepas dan nothing to lose. Mudah-mudahan melawan Bonsak besok saya juga bisa berbuat terbaik," tandasnya.

Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah bt Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto 15-5, 7-15, 15-12 (well..well...they had an inferior record against Choong/Lee...so...its not surprising)

Chan Chong Meng/Koo Kien Keat bt Tan Bin Shen/Ong Soon Hock 17-16, 10-15, 1-0 (Tan/Ong retired.....hmm....a close shave for Chan/Koo...and Tan/Ong again show that they are one for the future too)

Candra Wijaya/Sigit Budiarto and Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan both advanced to the quarter-final too (no scores given). Indonesia will have another pair in the quarter-final too....and most likely its going to be Hendra Gunawan/Joko Riyadi. As for the other remaining pairs for the quarter-final, its likely to be Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen, Jung Jae Sung/Lee Jae Jin, and Matias Boe/Carsten Mogensen.

Indonesia is guaranteed a semi-final place again because Candra/Sigit is facing Hendra/Joko (or the other younger Indo pair). Likewise, Malaysia is ensured a semi-final place because Chan/Koo will face Choong/Lee

A final between Indonesia and Malaysia is very likely now....

This match was really wasted for Flandy/Eng Hian. My brother told me (watching live), they were on match point 14-8 in the 2nd game after taken 1st game, but couldn't finish it, after Malaysian pair came back to win 2nd game (17-15) and took the match.

I think TH did it in purpose as a part of PBSI planning for Simon to gain more W ranking points as Simon seldom activley compete lately....

Hi eva,
from what you saw, do you think Taufik lose to Simon or purpose?
Some people here *suspect* that is the case. But I read in some media Taufik says, "Saya tidak mengalah, saya kalah beneran kok!"

Your thought please, thank you

" Saya tidak mengalah, saya kalah beneran kok!" what does this mean?? can someone help to translate this sentence ??
Chris, can you pls translate ? ( btw, thanks for your earlier translation on the interview with Taufik )

Ya, I want to know the truth also whether Taufik did it on purpose. If it's part of the PBSI plan, then I would say it's not fair to Taufik coz he might just have a chance to win his 6th title.
Anybody has any more insight about this ???? pls share....:p

Translation : I did not deliberately lose. I really lost.

I don't think it's PBSI plan, since it's not final yet.

Tanama Putra Alroy/Restu Dasuki Prasetyo (Indonesia) vs (8) Mohammad Fairuzizuan Mohammad Tazari/Lin Woon Fui (Malaysia) 15-8, 15-6;

I'm getting contrasting results from the Malaysian media on this match.

Actually, I am a bit frustrated with the media on the reporting. A fresh new day now, and I have yet to see a listing of the full results for yesterday.

Thanks so much on the translation.
I just saw the paper, Taufik was indeed smiling when he shake hand with Simon after his defeat. Maybe it's true that he really lost to a better performed Simon, or his determination to grab this tittle is not as strong as in WC.

Now hope he can do well in upcoming China Open.

Before China Open (9-13 Nov) there are 2 big tournaments, Denmark Open (5star) 18-23 Oct and Hongkong Open (6star) 31 oct - 6 Nov. Think he will go for that also.

Oops.... I almost forgot about this 2, but I thought he is eying on winning the ALL ENGLAND tittle, which he hasn't won before, should be next year MARCH right ?
Thanks for the updates anyway!

Today quater final must be an exciting one...for those who will catch it live, pls update score...thanks in advance :p

Actually, last time people were wondering why TH had difficulties winning tournaments outside Asia, such as All England, Denmark, etc, but since he won OG and WC, people seem never question this again. Now with OG and WC already in his hand, don't know whether he still aim to win those tournaments held outside Asia except All England (definitely he wants it) which is one of the prestigious tournaments

The translation by sen is correct. :).
Personally though, I don't think it was done on purpose by PBSI. Whatever Taufik said to the media/public, we just have to trust and go with it. But like i said before, we don't/won't know the *real* reason(s), only the players themselves know...:).

Hmm, eventhough those 2 tourneys are 5 and 6 star tourneys, I don't think Taufik will go for the Denmark Open nor HK Open, too close of a timeframe between now and China Open. I mean he could be attending and playing, depends also if all the top MS players will attend(yes the China's top players and PGade) , but *if* he will attend the China Open which is scheduled to to begin in early Nov., he will need lots of rest...just my gut feeling..

Plus also, I read in another media source(forgot which one and forgot to save the link),Taufik will have an exhibition match on the 27th of September, right after this IO. He will play MD against ex-Indonesian players incl. Christian Hadinata etc.
Can someone search this story, i believe it was posted 2-3 days ago-thx..

As for next year's All England, it is scheduled to be held on January 17-22,2006

Hello Striker,

Since u r close 2 Beng Hong, I hope u can relay this message.

He must change coach...Misbun method out dated. Looks at Hafiz, a wonderfully gifted attacking player going nowhere. Really sad looking gifted players like at Beng Hong, Roslin and now Hafiz playing out dated badminton. A modern player hardly lifts the shuttle nowadays. I was very sad watching Hafiz playing against Peter gade during the Malaysian Open Q/F. Gone are the days u play badminton like Han Jian, Prakash and Misbun. It is fine net play and deadly chop(Misbun trade mark shot) or smash in todays badminton.
