View Full Version : Playing shots while holding racket with both hands?
crouching 10-01-2005, 05:24 PM Hello everyone, am new to this forum. (HELLO!)
Today a new (almost beginner) player came to our club. Every now and then he would hit a shot when both hands were holding his racket. A few of us thought it might be illegal, but I'm not completely sure. Can anyone clarify please? Thanks very much!

Thanks very much! Not sure, but I just want to comment that the person probably played Tennis before starting Badminton.
theasiandude88 10-01-2005, 08:31 PM i believe that it is illegal, however if it is just a beginner than it is ok since you cant expect that much from a beginner. if he is dominating the game by doing that, then its time to tell him.
mercy 10-02-2005, 01:39 AM is it even possible to domninat someone with 2 hands? i mean the bird wont go anywhere...
keith_aquino 10-02-2005, 03:13 AM Legal but inefficient. You should correct him on that. Did he used to play tennis?
crouching 10-02-2005, 04:25 AM OK, so is it illegal or not?
In any case, he isn't dominating the game at all. The two-handed shots just kinda float high into the middle of the court to set up an easy attack.
Don't know if he used to play tennis, but his stroke technique doesn't look like that of a tennis-player-attempting-badminton.
We'll have to get him to stop doing that anyway.

Definitely! It's easier to learn the correct way than undoing the incorrect.
Benasp 10-02-2005, 03:39 PM why would that be illegal
As a joke, I would use two hands and hold my racket like a baseball bat for a pitch when someone serves lol!! Golf one too (not that low that the racket hits the ground!)

i'm guilty of this on a few occasions, when my friend does a really really high long serve. :o
Matrix 10-02-2005, 07:51 PM Hi,
I dont think there is rules in badminton stating using both hands is illegal. But true, it is very inefficient and ineffective in executing good shots. We are not only playing power shots but also need pretty alots of dexterity in movements. Being agile is very important. Using both hands will limit yr body movement. :o This will a disadvantege to himself. opponent will take advantage of it. It is not a matter legality but matter of being whacked by opponent because of his tennis stroke!!!

Gollum 10-03-2005, 07:32 AM Perfectly legal.
But a very, very bad technique. Never play shots with two hands.

I agree.. WHY would it be illegal?
eskimojoe 10-04-2005, 10:38 PM How was he holding his racket?
My friend sometimes uses two hands because he plays cricket

i tried....
hard to get used to.....
maybe i should try holding 1 racket per hand...
Russki Bear 10-05-2005, 04:01 AM I have played cricket and tennis and I don't swing two handed. It has nothing or little to do with it, surely!
I suppose I never did like a two handed backhand. I think they suck ;)
