i was wondering how tight everyone ties their shoes... is it a matter of preference or shall we tighten it so that our shoes will literally become a part of our feet? i find it that if it's too tight, my feet gets tired more easily for some reason... but the tighter it is, the better i can do footwork drills...

I don't tie them too tight. I hate really tight shoes. I only tie them tight enough so the soles are always against my feet. I find the tightness to really make my feet ache with lack of blood.

Tight enough so my feet don't have too much space to move in them, but not so tight I have to loosen them after 5 mins...

moderately tight... if i tighten them too tight, i wont be able to feel my feet after 10 mins of running around, does help you play better though...

I used to go relatively loose but sometimes ran into problems twisting my ankle. Now I go moderately tight to tight which is to minimize flex from the shoe.

i just pull the laces enough so that it feels comfortable. not too tight but yet its not loose. the shoes are "hugging" my feet.

I tie the laces very tight because I need a firm and stable foothold when I lunge for a shot. I nearly blinded my eye from a loose shoe when a full lunge failed miserably-the loose shoe gave way and I landed with my right eye on the metal post, with eye cuts, shattered glasses, sprained arm and leg.

 Serious?! How long ago? Are you OK now? Dang, that sucks. :(

yeah. its best to tie your shoes tight for badminton.
otherwise if you play a rigorous match, the skin on your feet will tear and worse still you may sprain your joints easily or end up like that unlucky guy up that.

If you tie your shoe lace too tight to prevent foot slippage inside the shoe. It means that you are wearing the wrong size or the shoe just doest fits you. Shoe laces should be tied firmly to hold your foot but not too tight.

Agree, but we also have to remember everyone's interpretation of "too tight", "snug" and "firm" is different. :p

when i first tried on the shb-89.i felt that i had to get 1 size bigger than whati normally wore.because the cushion was causing the tightness in my shoe.even now with 1 size bigger i sometimes have to loosen my lace.so you can say i dont really tighten my shoes.

Tight enough where I have a little trouble slipping them off and on.

Yeah, I find it better to tie them really tight, it increases my performance. My feet start hurting usually after a while though, due to lack of blood

Here's something to confuse the issue more. I used to tie my trainers really tight to avoid slippage but my feet used to ache after games and so a little while ago I decided to wear them a little looser. Not too loose, I still needed to untie the laces to take the trainers off.

I was playing in a match on Sunday morning. I jumped in the air, played a drop-shot and then landed, not awkwardly, but felt a pain in my foot. When I took my trainers off I had a massive ridge down the length of my foot roughly along the path taken by the tendon leading to my second toe, it looked a bit like a sharks fin! I was taken to the hospital and my foot X-rayed. The doc told me that nothing was broken but that I had sprained (?) a tendon and suffered a lot of soft tissue damage. I asked him what I could do to prevent this happening in the future. He said I should tie my laces tighter!!!!!

So, don't have your laces too loose or you'll end up on crutches like me!:crying: :crying:

for me, pretty tight on the left so the shoe won't flap-flap when i shake my foot and pretty loose on the right

Perhaps we need to take into account the relative grip between the floor and the shoe? On a grippy floor, there is no slide between the shoe and the floor, so if you are having trouble stopping (such as on a lunge), any sliding would tend to be within the shoe. On a more slippery floor, sliding might occur both beneath the shoe and beneath the foot.

:eek:tying your badminton court shoes too tight can make it wear out and easily go out of shape.

I used to have problems with my shoes, i had the basic shb's (50's i think) but although they were the right size my big toe kept slamming off the front, causing it to swell up. but if i tied my shoes tight to stop this after about three minutes of play i couldnt feel my feet. Instead my coach gave me this way of lacing them up that gave maximum tightness at the top but reduced the pressure around the mid sole area of the foot. if you lace your shoes up as normal until you get to the middle two holes on either side, miss them out and lace up the next two instead this will make a large x across the laces instead of a small one. Now you can tighten the top to reduce movement but the lack of laces around the mid foot area reduces pressure

i hate it wen your toes jam the front really hard, my shoes are 1/2 a size bigger then my real size, so that they will last a bit longer, my feet have been growing alot over the past 2 years, so wen i lung to grab a drop shot fast i try to push off as fast as i can b4 i jam my toe at the front ,do it right and ur quickly and ur back at center court easly
