View Full Version : Question about my 1st stringed racquet

Hi all,
I stringed my 1st racquet last week, and I found out the frame is kinda ROUND shape compared with my other racquets. :crying: I know I probably didn't use the +2 lbs for the cross technic. :( My questions are as follow:
1) Will it damage the frame if it's a ROUND shape?
2) Should I cut off the strings and re-string again?
I used this racquet last weekend and I felt okay with it.
You expertise opinion is appreciated. :)
Thanks in advance.

Can you post a picture or two of the racquet? What tension did you string it at? I doubt that by simply stringing the mains and crosses at the same tension the racquet would come *that* round. You'd have to string the crosses significantly lower than the mains for that to happen.
Without seeing some pictures, I think anyone'll have a hard time telling you how bad the problem looks. If you're not sure yourself, you can always cut and restring it.

Yes, I will post some pic when I back home today. I suppose to string it at 22/24. But I changed a tension a bit while I'm in middle of string the mains and also the cross. So, I'm suspect they all are not even. (so embarrasses).:o
Thanks

Take the picture then cut the string. Make sure the supporting post is secured.
What Make and model of string maching do you have?

It'll be fine. Don't cut the strings unless it bothers you. :p

1. If obiviously round, it will damage the frame. That usually means ur cross is strung way less than it suppose to. The cause could be varied, such as wrong tension, uneven tesion (due to modification of tension on different piece), wrong mounting technique (i.e. the mount did not support the frame as it should be), etc.
2. If possible, cut it asap, and re-do it.
3. NEVER ever use a high end racket as ur 1st demo run, when u practice stringing. For myself, I even bought a $12 racket and several pieces of junk strings, just to get used to the "feeling". Start with low tension 20- with cheaper resources. It will be a waste to use higher end racket / string for the practice, never to metion the risk u will take.

Thanks for your opinion. It's not that ROUND, but it's a bit fatter when compared with my other racquets.

The above is excellent advice. I would definitely start-off using a cheap racket and string. Practice with thicker, cheap string. If you can string with thicker string, going with thinner stuff will just be so much easier. Also if you can find some cheap thin string, try that too, at high tension, 30+lbs. If you don't break the string, then lower tension will be very easy for you.
Good luck! :D

But u r using AT800. AT800 is $150+, 1 piece of string is $5-10. Do the math, and cut it right after. :p

Yes, you're right. I understand what you mean. I'm going to practise with the cheap racquet this week.
