It seems most Indonesian badminton players retired aboard.

Eg: Tony Gunawan and Halim (USA), Fung Permadi (thailand), Alan Budi Kusuma (Hong Kong), and soon to be Chandra Wijaya.

well, not really "retired", most of them are still coaching, some are still playing, whilst some doing other professions...there aren't many though and there were a few that moved out quite a while ago..

hmm, AlanBK moved to HongKong??..how abt his wife Susy??..Candra is still living in INA, but there have been "talks" he will move abroad and follow/join Tony&Halim..

to name a few more:Rudy Gunawan(USA, as a pastor), Ignatius Rusli(USA, coaching with Tony and Halim), Ardy Wiranata(CANADA, coaching), Rexy Mainaky(MALAYSIA, coaching), Minarti Timur(PHILIPPINES, coaching), Wiempie Mahardi(SINGAPORE, playing/sparring partner), and recently Hendrawan (JAPAN, coaching)..let's see who else??..

msenghl... i think she used to play with carbonex 21..the very old version... carbonex 21 still well used nation-wide in indo and mostly for rally players.. one of the two old style that are still popular till today.. the other one is the T-joint carbonex 8.:)

she is class, pure class.
i believe she was referred to as the 'queen of badminton' in the early 90's.
absolutely amazing movement around the court for such a small lady, would make the perfect video for footwork training.

Here are some photos from the June 23rd 2005 "Badminton on the Street" event in Jakarta... Susi Susanti took part of the festivities, playing her role as the badminton goodwill ambassador. :) I highly respect her. I once rode on the same bus with her (going to the 1996 Uber Cup venue)... she was so cool, so majestic off the court. Her eyes are so deep... so determined, so focused.

Reports said that Susi is still so good at badminton that she beat Firdasari (Indonesia's #1 women singles player today) handily last year as the Indonesian women team were preparing for their Uber Cup qualifying match. People said that if Susi played Indonesia's 3rd single, we would surely still qualify for the Uber Cup...:crying:

Nia Zulkarnaen (in orange) also took part. She was the badminton associations' PR face, along with Pak Miing. Nia also played badminton when she was younger. :D Reportedly, Nia played in Susi's club, Jaya Raya. But regardless whether that's true or not, Nia went on to become an actress... ;)

...brought some criticisms afterwards, stemming from some officials & "blaming" the decision by Bang Yos(PBSI's head honcho) to "spend" so much money on such festivities. Apparently those critics argued that the money used on that festivities could've been spent to sponsor those Pelatnas players to compete overseas..:p ;) The intent was to create somekind of a World-Record of having the most outdoor badminton courts-I remember there was a post/thread on this in BC.
Anyways, I believe the event was also part of the closing festivities after some sort of ABC's Council meeting in Jakarta. The event also included several other well-known international players, i believe Morten Frost played as well.
*Btw, thanks Krisna for sharing those pics..
