MS : LinDan vs BaoCL (Both of them had the same scoreline in the semis )

WS : Zhang Ning Vs Xie XF

MD : Cai/Fu vs Eriksen/Lundgaard

WD : Zhang/Yang vs GaoLing/Huang Sui

MXD : Robertson/Emms vs Xie Zhongbo/Zhang Yawen

Its seems that China will sweep the Hong Kong open if they win in all events.
The Mens Singles , Ladies singles and Womens Doubles is already a guarantee for China.

I think it'll most likely be a total Chinese sweep there, but not sure about Cai/Fu though. Had never had faith in those two.

Not too surprised for the 80% Chinese final, now I just hope BCL could win LD for once and for his first international title.

Bao Cun Lai already had his first international title in Denmark Open 2002 if I am not wrong. Then Lin Dan got his first title in Korean Open 2003.

A little correction, BCL won Denmark Open 2001 while he was only 18 beating Lin Dan 7-5,7-1,7-0. That was his only title. Lin Dan won his first title in Korea Open 2002 beating Shon Sheng Mo. Since then LD had won so many titles.

Agree, when Fu/Cai are on fire, they are nearly impossibel to beat but when they are off, they are off. :p

My predictions:

MS: LD (run Bao, run!)
WS: ZN (I'll take experience over youth any day :p )
MD: Cai/Fu (they are playing well, hopefully they can carry the momentum)
XD: Robertson/Emms (too strong)

What's wrong with playing a local tournament? Tony and Halim traveled in Europe the past two months, I think they are home sick. :p

As a World Champion, they should participate big tournament. Not just play with little child, if won the title also not proud about it :(

Who says you have to play in a big tournament if you are the WC? There's no rule. There could many reasons why they didn't want to play.

I do not think you should jump to conclusions without knowing the whole story. :p

Invariably, the poster says something like its 'disgraceful', 'shameful' for a strong player to play in an A grade tournament without considering whether it contributes to the OVERALL DEVELOPMENT OF BADMINTON IN THE HOME COUNTRY.

Lin Dan is always the top player for quite long time. Why he needs to REGAIN his position. His number 1 position is solid and strong, even if he lost to Bao in the final.

You probably mean he has not claimed all the titles he played. But the fact is, no one else can grab more ranking points than he. Therefore, he's still the top player. I knew that Taufic and Lee CW got some golds, recently, anyhow, Lin still has the most.

I have a hunch that Xie ZB gave up Men's double on purpose. Since Zhang Jun/Gao Ling's out, Chinese team has only Xie/Zhang left in Mixed double, while Fu/Cai still alive in mens double. It is impossible to play two finals within 2 or 3 hours, so Xie/Guo gave up Mens's double for saving the Mixed double title.

Correct me if I'm wrong, or totally nonsense.

By the way, I saw Guo and Xie playing doubles in Chinese national games 3 weeks ago, they were not that good. Amazing, Chinese men's single veteran Sun Jun and Liu Yong played together as men's double, they won a lot with no loss in team competition, invinsible in team competition. Please note in Chinese national games team competition, there is no rule for the orders of playing. Finally Sun Jun/Liu Yong's team won the gold medal. In the individual event, Sun Jun/Liu Yong were the semi-finalist, while Cai Yun beat Fu Haifeng, won the title.

Sorry, a bit off topic here, just want to let Dan know about this:

tomorrow's US International Open's final will start at 1:00PM
start with XD, and ending with MD as the last event.

MD- Tony/Howard made it, albeit thru 2 pretty competitive sets against a new young Taiwanese pair. Again, it seemed like Tony was controlling 3/4 of the match out there with Howard making a few plays from his own. Halim/Bob M. didn't make it against Beres/Milroy-took 3 sets, lost the final one 17-16-a bit of a surprise, too bad.
WD - the SGVBC gals made it(well, they are former national team members), i believe they will play the 2 tall English pair.
XD - will be a battle of the OCBC pairs.
MS - Tony G., yup it's him against a Taiwanese player.
WS - Lily Zhou against an England player.

Give me a holler if you want to watch together. I'll be there around 1, hope before 1. Sean Chang will come also. -:)

Storkbill: excellent post. I know most of the local players went to OCBC to watch the tourney. I plan to go tomorrow for the finals. :D
