LazyBuddy 11-10-2005, 09:27 AM Wong Choong Hann vs Chen Jin
Well, I say this one going to be an interesting match. Chen Jin has the home crowd behind him, but WCH loves CHN Open, and can feel quite comfortable as well...

go lin dan! go choong hann! go hyun-il! :p
Morten 11-10-2005, 11:31 AM Im looking forward to tomorrows matches... I would love to see a rematch between lin and gade even if I think Lin will win in straight sets because of plying on homeground. Gade has proven very strongly that he is back and with his very close defeat to Lin last week and the only one troubling shoved us that he can win the big titles... Also look forward to see Bao-Lee. Lee is like day and night but lately he has been very strong.
FAST! 11-10-2005, 12:06 PM Well, I say this one going to be an interesting match. Chen Jin has the home crowd behind him, but WCH loves CHN Open, and can feel quite comfortable as well...
Sorry, it is off the topic, can WCH speak Cantonese or Mandarin?

what language is used between Malaysia players or in their training?
weeyet 11-10-2005, 12:31 PM I am not anti-chinese but I just hope that there are no Chinese in the semifinal other than Lin Dan/Chen Hong.. I'm kinda fed up with Chinese domination.
weeyet 11-10-2005, 12:33 PM what language is used between Malaysia players or in their training?
I dunno, but I jsut guess depends on which player they are talking to.
For example, I guess Choong Tan Fook(fr. Ipoh) will speak Cantonese with Koo Kien Keat(fr. Ipoh), but speak Mandarin to Lee Chong Wei(fr. Penang), speak Malay to Hafiz, and English to Park Joo Bong.

MEN'S SINGLES
Lin Dan vs Chen Hong -- match of the day
Kuan Beng Hong vs Peter Gade
Lee Hyun-Il vs Bao Chunlai
Wong Choong Hann vs Chen Jin
--expecting yet another long match between Lin and Gade on Saturday night.
I don't think the match of the day will be between Lin and Chen since they are comptratroits. If Chen (or Lin but not likely Lin) actually tries to play like how he did during the 05 AE then we would have a good match. If Chen takes Lin out, Peter's chance of winning the tournament is incrased substantially.
I think the match of the day is between Lee Hyun-Il and Bao Chunlai while all the others should be good to watch also.
yannie 11-10-2005, 01:54 PM what language is used between Malaysia players or in their training?
yeah i watched them train.. its kinda funny sometimes they speak all five langs/dialects with each other.
/.../
Paaske/Rasmussen vs Fu/Cai -- match of the day
I'm suspect this will be the last match for JR/Lars. Jonas has a neck injury, and it was obviously they were struggling badly against Logosz/Mateusiak, a pair they normally beat without hardly breaking a sweat. :(
cheongsa 11-10-2005, 03:27 PM yeah i watched them train.. its kinda funny sometimes they speak all five langs/dialects with each other.
Sounds typical... Malay/English/Mandarin/Cantonese/Hokkien?

Yea...Malaysian chinese can speak many languages.Hm....Im so proud...haha.
Lee Wan Wah can spaeks in chinese right ?? but he cant write in chinese.Same with kkk...:)
DinkAlot 11-10-2005, 03:41 PM Sounds typical... Malay/English/Mandarin/Cantonese/Hokkien?
That's one heck of an accent. ;) :p :D
Very impressive though. :D
2cents 11-10-2005, 03:44 PM Sounds typical... Malay/English/Mandarin/Cantonese/Hokkien?
It sounds like that people from small countries are all language expert. I bet Danes can speak Danish, English, Faroese, and German. Some of them may have to speak Greenlandic also. 5 languages too, exactly same number of languages Malaysians can speak. while people from big countries, like Americans can only speak English, and most Chinese from China (not from Malaysia) can only speak Chinese. Small countries are the driving force of the world.
DinkAlot 11-10-2005, 04:23 PM Small countries are the driving force of the world.
Nice quote. :) Sounds like something an economist or philosopher would say. :D
Just hope that Lin Dan vs Chen Hong match will be played in a true sportmen spirit. It will sound suspicious if anyone of them withdraw due to injury again.
Lets see.
KaSoon 11-10-2005, 06:10 PM I am not anti-chinese but I just hope that there are no Chinese in the semifinal other than Lin Dan/Chen Hong.. I'm kinda fed up with Chinese domination.
i am not agreed with you..is not Chinese players dominate the game BUT other players should self-criticism why they lost the game!
DinkAlot 11-10-2005, 08:06 PM i am not agreed with you..is not Chinese players dominate the game BUT other players should self-criticism why they lost the game!
I wanna see Chen Jin win the whole enchilada! :D
Big Mark 11-10-2005, 08:21 PM Im after any pics of my old buddies .. Anthony Clark & Nathan Robertson .. who coincedentally play each other today !!
Good result for Ant beating Zhang & Gao ...
DinkAlot 11-10-2005, 08:27 PM Nathan Robertson
You mean the pirate? "Arrrrrrgh matey!" ;) :p :D
Nat can play, he's awesome! :D
KaSoon 11-10-2005, 09:05 PM I wanna see Chen Jin win the whole enchilada! :D
Chen Jin is very good, young & matured player. You can see this when he played with Jonassen, even he is lag behind 0:8 but he pursued to 10:10 & win 15:10 in 1st game.
For me, I wanna see Bao Chun Lai overcome any opponents in final game & win the championship. He is a very good player, only he lack of confident & not be firm enough especially when he meet Lin Dan. If he can accelerate his speed & strengthen his psychology, i think he can win the championship in this tournament.
If both Bao & Chen Jin win in the quarter final, they will meet in semi final !!!

WYH lost the first 1/2 of teh 2nd set coz she didn't make use of the full extend of teh court.
in the 2nd 1/2. she started to hit shot closers to the lines and making hughes move more, and now she is gaining back the 2nd game.

I prefer Wang Lin as future world #1 after watched them play in Final AJBC 2005 (Wang Lin beat Wang Yihan), and semi Final match, Wang Lin def. Yip Pui Yin (HKG), why she lost to Yip in here ?
Wang Lin didn't play well in Denmark Open also, is she still tired after play in National Games ?
Another name who posible to be world#1 is Lu lan, also didn't play well in Denmark & China Open.
I thaught Wang Lin or Lu lan aren't in good form to play in China Open.
w3wmfhe 11-11-2005, 02:45 AM 11 - 5 hughes won the 2nd set

Hughes has good shots when she has the time to prepare and react. WYH shouldn't lift to the center and give her time.
on the other hand, WYH is faster, so Hughes shouldn't give her the opportunity to outspeed her.
event 11-11-2005, 02:57 AM Yeah~~ Good job JR!!!!Wow! That first game was a blowout. I did see a lot more life (and control and confidence) in the Danish pair at the beginning of the second but the win still surprises me.

Indonesia vs. Denmark - the least expected situation on China's own home soil after the fine run of the Chinese pairs in HK Open less than a week ago.
WYH needs to learn how to place the shuttle even when she is under pressure. she is fast and tall and have a few killer shots. but when the opponent isn't allowing her the time to make those shots, ie. when she is under pressure, she tend to make predictable safe placements, often lift to the center or drive to the center, which the opponent can easily manipulate.
she needs to stay calm and play smart. maybe take some risks. great players like Gong Zhichao is a master on playing smart and awesome placement even when she is under a lot of pressure.
i hope WYH will learn that as she gain more international experience. a year or two ago, XXF was a bit like her, she has all the skills but she doesn't know how to use them. but later when she matures a bit more, she become smarter and now look at where she is. WYH may be a bit less experienced than XXF then, but give her 2-3 years. she will be one of the top.

badMania 11-11-2005, 03:16 AM So far, predictions for WS and MD are 100% :D
Semi-Final lineup:
WS:
Zhang Ning vs Wang Chen
Wang Yihan vs Xie Xingfang
MD:
Candra Wijaya/Sigit Budiarto vs Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen
Luluk Hadiyanto/Alven Yulianto vs Jens Eriksen/Martin Lundgaard Hansen
-- both are 50-50 matches....it could be an all-Indo or all-Denmark final.
LP/JR could bid farewell with a much-anticipated match against arch-rival Candra/Sigit.
yingcheng 11-11-2005, 03:17 AM i think both of them deserve to win this match...though hughes lost this time but i wanna give a big clap to her!

not so quick. Hughes is a decent player too. a bit slow, but she makes up with it by reading the game well. by the 2nd game, she was able to learn WYH's playing pattern and often knows where to position herself for the return. this is partly due to WYH's lack of experience and shot variation.
Hughes managed to keep up with the young and fast WYH throughout the match without showing much sign of fatigue. technique-wish she is decent but not silky smooth like some of the Chinese.
but in the end, WYH kept her fast pace and edges out in winning the match. frankly, until the last part of the 3rd game, it wasn't very clear to me who would be the winner.
event 11-11-2005, 03:20 AM China still has two mixed doubles team, right? Xie/Zhang playing right now.Right. There is no live scoring. The sports.163.com site is putting the results up about an hour after the end of the match. I think GDTV will be off the air soon, too, so no way of knowing what happens in that match until later. It was supposed to be on the centre court but they started playing it on Court 2: perhaps because the men's doubles and women's singles took so long.

Good to see Susan starting to get some good results on the world stage. She does quite well on the European circuit but never seems to get past the 2nd round of 'big' tournaments. She's always been amazingly talented - I played on the same county team as her when she was 15 and she would win most matches without conceding more than 2 or 3 points, against adults. Hopefully this result will get her into the top 20.
Viper2005 11-11-2005, 03:28 AM Xie/Zhang lost!!!!!!! so so sad.

but yes, nathan/emms will be big favourites.
wow u seem to place alot of hope on her. what about the other chinese female juniors, how do they compare to her?
i looked at her pic in the other thread. yeah i agree, she has the xxf body built. slim (almost too skinny) and tall (for ladies standard).
there aren't much opportunities to watch the few young Chinese WS players on match. often they lose in the earlier rounds and never get any TV time. this time around, however, we get to see Jiang, Wang Rong and Wang YH play. even though Jiang was the NC, out of the 3, i think WangYH has the best potential. as you said, good body build, speed, hardworking, shown good fighting spirit and kill instinct.
Jiang is also good but shuttle speed is slower. she is a more of a placement player from what i can tell. technique-wise she doesn't produce very sharp shots.
Wang Rong, despite being slow, i felt that she is kind of laid back. often happy to just keep the rally gonig and does work as hard as others in forming the rally. that's a valid style but imho not a winning style.
all are young, however, so by the time they mature, they will be taking the places of ZN, ZM, and probably XXF as well. haha...i sense some anti-vibes there....
i think most people thought it would be hard for zheng/zhao to beat widianto/natsir but hey they did 2-0:p
but yes, nathan/emms will be big favourites.
sigh, i wish i had watched the ZB/ZTT vs. Widianto/Natsir match.
ZB/ZTT will be an interesting combination. ZB is a more offensive and also more tricky player than CQQ, ZTT's ex-partner. this may well be the boost that ZTT needs to make a mark in the XD circuit.

Viper2005 11-11-2005, 03:35 AM I know Zheng/Zhao will win easily......new partners usually play together with new energy and lots of heart. They play very well together and compliments each others shots very well. Look for them in the first place.:)
They did just beat the world champs in two sets too.....

Hopefully this result will get her into the top 20.
probably always get bad draw. it will be difficult not to run into one of the seeds on big tourneys. and while she can play a good tight against youngsters like WYH, she will have a much harder time against the seeds.

in china team, if a pair is not good in md, they change to play xd and become succesfull, i wonder why ?

badMania 11-11-2005, 03:44 AM nova/natsir always find a problem if they meet a new pair,

Nova is once again the weak link in the partnership. In fact, they ALWAYS have difficulties in beating the really top pairs in XD like Lee/Lee, Robertson/Emms, Zhang/Gao and previously Chen/Zhao. This year alone, they have lost twice to each of the pair, except Zhang/Gao. Therefore, its not surprising to see them losing to Zheng/Zhao.
Although I am an Indonesian, I do think that they owe their WC victory mostly to the luck of the draw. Butet (Lilyana Natsir) needs a better partner to reinforce her position in the XD hierachy. Nova is definitely not going to be a long-term partner. Unfortunately, I can not think of any young player that can partner her in the long run.
Similarly, Anggun is also the weak link in the Anggun/Yunita partnership. He appears to be a little bit lazy and lack the aura of a top double player. On the other hand, Yunita is more hardworking and covers the ground better (despite her "chubby" appearance"). Either Flandy or Eng Hian could partner her and I am sure the result will be much better than the current pairing.
Johansen 11-11-2005, 03:45 AM I believe the correct score in the Eriksen/Schjoldager bt Xie/Zhang is 15/5 15/9

100% agree!!! Natsir needs a new partner. I've been watchign a lot of their games and Natsir seems to be even more dominant than Nova.
I wish Candra could pair with her, that would be insane... Alright, its getting late, i'll go sleep and dream for real... :p

agree, Lilyana is definitely much better player than Nova. she is the brain of the pair and as strong if not stronger than Nova on defense. Nova is just the cannon after Lilyana sets up the shuttle. she is always calm and he makes all the nervous errors.

zia.ufrida 11-11-2005, 03:53 AM Yes... I agree with you badmania. I never see Flandi/eng hian as a winner in any tournament.
I still remember the match Flandi/teti vs Zhang/gao in Sudirman cup 2005. They can take the first set, but finally lost in 2nd and third due to lack experience.

Sandy 11-11-2005, 03:53 AM there aren't much opportunities to watch the few young Chinese WS players on match. often they lose in the earlier rounds and never get any TV time. this time around, however, we get to see Jiang, Wang Rong and Wang YH play. even though Jiang was the NC, out of the 3, i think WangYH has the best potential. as you said, good body build, speed, hardworking, shown good fighting spirit and kill instinct.
XXF imho will be the last to retire while i don't thikn we will see ZhangN / ZhouM for more than a couple more years. these young ladies will have to be pushed up and will get more exposure at a younger age than the other used to.
Don't compare with Jiang & Wang Rong only, both players not younger than WYH.
How is Zhu Lin, Lu Lan (World Junior Champion), they played well in Malaysia Open 2005, Final & Quarter Final. Also Wang Lin Asian Junior Chmpion 2005, she younger than WYH.
For comparation,
WYH born January 18, 1988
Wang Lin March 13, 1989
Lu Lan born October 17, 1987
these players stil in junior age.
Wang Rong, born April 18, 1984 too late, otherwise she will next Zhang Ning
Jiang Yanjiaou, June 26, 1986
Zhu Lin no data, I thaught she isn't junior age anymore.

event 11-11-2005, 04:01 AM nova/natsir always find a problem if they meet a new pairI'm not so sure about that. I watched them make pretty quick work of Xie/Zhang (http://www.worldbadminton.net/Portal/desktopmodules/pair_head.asp?pairid_2=55745&firstname1_1=Nova&lastname1_1=WIDIANTO&firstname1_2=Lilyana&lastname1_2=NATSIR&pairid_1=57408)in the QF of the Korea Open. Xie looked really dangerous in his men's doubles match but Nova/Lilyana just took them in 2 games. Not so in the WC first game. No trouble with Prapakamol and Thungthongkam in first (and only) two meetings, either. Against Zhang/Gao (http://www.worldbadminton.net/Portal/desktopmodules/pair_head.asp?pairid_2=51008&firstname1_1=Nova&lastname1_1=WIDIANTO&firstname1_2=Lilyana&lastname1_2=NATSIR&pairid_1=57408), they won their first match in the 2004 China Open and dropped two since. Same pattern with Robertson/Emms (http://www.worldbadminton.net/Portal/desktopmodules/pair_head.asp?pairid_2=14297&firstname1_1=Nova&lastname1_1=WIDIANTO&firstname1_2=Lilyana&lastname1_2=NATSIR&pairid_1=57408). Laybourn/Rytter Juhl took only one match: 3rd of 4 altogether. They took (only) their first of three against Chen/Zhao.
In fact, out of all the pairs they've lost to, the only pairs other than Zheng/Zhao that fit your pattern are Lee/Lee (http://www.worldbadminton.net/Portal/desktopmodules/pair_head.asp?pairid_2=25888&firstname1_1=Nova&lastname1_1=WIDIANTO&firstname1_2=Lilyana&lastname1_2=NATSIR&pairid_1=57408) and Eriksen/Schjoldager.

nova is a weak link.... i think the best candidate is flany, he's good to paly xd, but he's too old
They will lose the no 1 spot by mid of next mth after the points from last year's Singapore and Indo Open are erased, since Lee/Lee has performed better than them. Note that this tournamant will be the last in 2005.
Look at Jens Eriksen...he's 30++ yet still going on strong in both MD and XD. In fact, his performances in the past two years are improving!
I think Flandy/Yunita will be a good pairing (as we have seen in the Sudirman Cup -- they took a set from Zhang/Gao)Flandy/Eng Hian's continued presence in the MD will only hinder the progress of another upcoming MD pair (Hendra Gunawan/Joko Riyadi).
I will give Candra/Sigit a maximum of 1 more year (with next year's All England, WC, Thomas Cup, and Asian Games their outmost priority). Then, I think Candra will go to the US, while Sigit could perhaps be paired with Butet. This partnership will be very explosive and Sigit could probably stay for another 3 years to fulfil his ambition of an Olympic medal.
I hope PBSI's official do read the forum and think wisely in preparation for the Olympics in Beijing.
My preferred team for the Olympics:
MD:
Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan -- at that time, should be Indo's no 1 pair (both will be 24 and very much at their prime)
Hendra Gunawan/Joko Riyadi -- has the potential to be Indo's no 2 pair (they will be 26/23 respectively)
Luluk Hadiyanto/Alven Yulianto -- last chance to get a medal from Olympics (they will be 29/28 respectively...more or less similar to Flandy/Eng Hian's situation last year)
XD:
Sigit Budiarto/Lilyana Natsir -- they will be 33/23 respectively....not that old for Sigit and could be the favorites for gold
Flandy Limpele or Eng Hian/Yunita Tetty -- they will be 34 or 31/27 respectively
Muhd Rizal/Endang Nur Sugianti -- they will be 22/25 respectively
