Alright. After days of competing, finally 2 best teams have emerged.:D as predicted the final showdown will be presented by 2 giants from the South East Asia as well as in the world.
Malaysia vs Indonesia
What do you think the game will be? Who will get the gold medal in this exiciting match?
My own opinion in analyzing the game as:
Taufik Hidayat vs Lee Chongwei (50-50, both are young, hard to predict cos they are in top form recently) i will choose Lee cos he is more skillful and agressive. Score, 0-1
Luluk Hadiyanto/Alven Yulianto vs Chan Choong Ming/Koo Kien Keat (hmmm.. 55-45, Indo has little advantage as they are more experience) it could be a rubble game, i will choose Indo pair as they are more powerful. Score, 1-1
Sony Dwi Kuncoro vs Muhd Hafiz Hashim (45-55, Hafiz has better morale as he grabbed 3 champs this year. Tough anyway.) i will choose Hafiz cos he is more versatile compare with Sony in terms of skill and rally. Score, 1-2
Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan vs Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah (50-50, Malaysia Pair has bulk of experince but they are age-ing) i will choose Indo pair, Choong and Lee will get owned due to their inconsistency. Score, 2-2
Simon Santoso vs Wong Choong Hann (Ok. This will be the point to determine the winner:eek: . Both of them will be in great pressure, whoever can perform more steadily will be the winner.) I will choose Wong, cos he is an experience player and can handle the pressure. But again, his consistency will be his great obstacle to overcome. Score, 3-2
Ok. This is only my own opinion. How about you??? :)

Jim Ross... :D and it's not off topic coz i was commenting on how i anticipate the match to be.
Not too sure on LCW vs Taufik.... but the fact that Taufik didn't publicly say he's gonna win this for indonesia makes me lean a bit more towards LCW taking 'this one'.
cheers

p.s. as to reduce future confusion, when i type JR it will mean Jim Ross, a very respected sports commentator IMHO badminton would do great with.
Jonas Rasmussen shall from now forth be typed affectionately as 'Our JR' :D

Thanks for your info Rollerbuzz. The situation has changed.
Simon vs Kuan (50-50, again, this is depends on Kuan consistency. Simon will have more advantage unless Kuan gone crazy tonight.) I will choose Kuan as he sometimes perform very well in important match.
Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan vs Choong Tan Fook/Wong Choong Han (60-40 obviously Indo team will have more advantage than Malaysia. WCH is not a doubles player after all. He played doubles before but couldnt perform although he started out his national team badminton career in mixed double. But he is just not suitable for it.) Indo will thrash Malaysia team unless WCH is on fire??
I think the final score may be Indo 3-2 to Malaysia. Unless Indo do not perform well in the match.

Strange decisions.I think the balance tips over to the Indo side now. Markis/Hendra SHOULD win against Choong/Wong.
Simon also has a higher chance of winning now.

hmmm... i think taufik has got the upperhand against chong wei... chong wei had to struggle to bt boonsak earlier. unless taufik loses his form, i think he will clinch it.
sony vs. hafiz... should be hafiz if he is on form but then again, sony can be quite unpredictable. i'll bank on hafiz for this one though :p
kuan beng hong should be able to live up to his ranking against simon. at least i hope so.
alven/luluk vs. cong ming/kkk will be a real 50-50 match. should be the best match to watch besides the match between chong wei and taufik. hard to tell.
markis and hendra should be able to bt tan fook/choong han.
these r just my opinions. :D we shall wait and c now, shan't we?

PBSI should have sent them to high pressure individual tourneys like the world championships. If they lose, its only an individual tournament.
A high stake team competition where pride is at stake is no place to gain experience. It's a battle zone of the best players, technically and psychologically.

i think the only way simon can win WCH is speed and stamina since there is such a great age gap between them.

TV3 and NTV7 do not have even a single pressman in Manila, their news do not even mention SEA games!!!! Indonesian TV can have live telecast but what about Malaysia??? Is this what we call Malaysia Boleh? The TV sure tak boleh...

YAHOO!! 3rd time we beat Indon team after being 0-2 down. I think the turning pt is 2nd doubles.:D
1st time was in 1988 TC semis, and I was there! Ong Beng Teong and a young Cheah Soon Kit were the heroes.
2nd time was in 1990 Asian Games semis. The most heart-stopping one with Kwan Yoke Meng's 17-16 third set victory after trailing 8-14.

Ah, but to me, Hafiz is expected to win, he's a pressure handler. Remember how he beat Bao Chunlai in TC semis 2002, in China.
Hendra/Markis were expected to roll past our ageing pair, but they can't handle the pressure ...

The positive points, the results has showed that how bad Indonesian regeneration in single, no reason for PBSI official. This fail was closed by Taufik's succeses.
I have worried it, since PBSI used some beginner coaches in National Training Centre (Pelatnas).
Pulled back some experienced coaches to Pelatnas like Indra Gunawan, Agus Dwi Santoso, Liang Chiu Sia, Retno Kustiyah etc.

It's obvious that Simon is lacking the "mental" aspect.
Many coaches and even his teammates have acknowledged and mentioned this fact before. A few even said, his technique is "much better" than that of Taufik...
I think the failure of the Indo Men's Team to win Gold for the Men's Team event at this year's SEA Games shows that PBSI should learn from their mistakes and solve it..Imagine if Taufik didn't even play, the team would probably not even go into the Finals, or even if they get there, they probably would lose 1-4 or 0-5..
It's *definitely* time for PBSI to start sending him(as well as other up-and-coming players) to bigger stars tournaments next year, for real, win or lose..
Simon has great techniques, but his mental is not so strong, so sometimes that great skill is useless. Let's see how he will do
12-all now.

Hehehe, that's what we call "berburuk sangka".
I had a bad internet connection last night... I wasn't sad at all, well a bit disappointed maybe yes.
PBSI should have sent them to high pressure individual tourneys like the world championships. If they lose, its only an individual tournament.
A high stake team competition where pride is at stake is no place to gain experience. It's a battle zone of the best players, technically and psychologically.
Allow me to disagree here.
I believe the PBSI had make a good decision. This is not something they will regret. Sure they will make a lot of evaluation after this.
Even Sigit Budiarto say that young players need this kind of experience.
The Sea Games for us is "ajang pematangan para pemain muda." This is where young players got the opportunity to gain experience when they have to play for the nation. For a longer term, this will be of much benefit when they have to play for the nation in a bigger event such as the Asian Games and the Olympic.
You know, the PBSI was criticised by the media for fielding Taufik Hidayat to SEA GAMES. But I don't blame PBSi. Currently we do not have so many good MS players, not like in the past. So Taufik had to play.
After all, I would like to offer congratulation to the MAS team and the fans here. We accept the lost gracefully. :-)

I fully respect your disagreement. Yet I've always felt if Hendra/Markis were given the chance to play world championships (which they qualified on merit, by the way), they could have done better yesterday.
But my main view is to ensure the best team players are around on these team tournaments. I would even accept MAS loss if Sigit/Chandra played. At least MAS best team really played INDON best team.

Ya, Simon outplayed Taufik in the Indo Open. I guess that's the only time we see him play his best, all out.
But in term of mentality Taufik is far better than him, since from a very young age.
Did you watch him play last night? Simon 'give up' too easily. With Simon we could not expect a long and exciting rally, he just exchange one-two-three strokes with the opponent that's all. He could have saved many points if only he tried harder. In Indonesian, Simon "kurang ulet mengejar bola."
Sure, PBSI should learn from this failure. You know, Sutiyoso has a personal ambition to bring back the Thomas Cup while he is still the PBSI's chairman. But look, he even fail in the SEA GAMES. He share the blame, he is too stingy to send players to tournaments. Hope he learn a lesson

I guess this is where we disagree. It's a common view here that players like Taufik, Chandra/Sigit, should give place to young players in the SEA GAMES.
We expect the youngsters to be the next Taufik and Chandra/Sigit in the future. But I do understand & respect your concern.

Yah, i can imagine that. It's partly everyone to "blame"(from PBSI down to the coach, player)..
Well, it's a good loss and lesson to learn for the players. Hope PBSI and the players don't just walk away from this defeat with a "ho-hum" thinking and mindset...If so, the result for their next or future *team event* could be "disastrous"...:p

Hmm, i was with the Indo team, accompanying them for about half the time @ WC this past August, and from talking and hanging around with the coaches, esp. MD coach(Christian Hadinata), i didn't sense anything that showed "they were or he was so frustrated". Maybe they/he said something to the effect, but i wasn't around.
But yah, in one occasion while driving back from a get-together, i was chatting and heard from coach Joko regarding this issue: he mentioned something to the effect that it's "unfortunate" the young pair of Markis/Hendra as well as other players(women players) weren't allowed to come eventhough they have qualified and willing to pay for their own travel/accommodation, saying simply the reason: PBSI was using "target/goal oriented" approach..All in all, they could complain, but there's nothing they could do, as they, the coaches themselves were given somekind of a "threat" or "ultimatum" to prepare their protege/main disciple to at least "reach the Semi-Finals" or else.. :p

Yah, of course when they were in the tournament the coach should only focus to the tournament at hand and put the other thoughts behind.
But if you read Tabloid Bola BEFORE the event, it did say that Christian Hadinata "sangat frustrasi" dengan tidak diberangkatkannya Markis Kidho/Hendra Setiawan to the WC.
I don't think this 'result-oriented' approach will work. What will happen next...

Hahaha, you are wrong here. Don't forget that Tony Gunawan won the gold, and he's one of Christian's 'disciple', and Tony also acknowledged this. :p I read somewhere that Punch Gunalan even teased Christian, saying something like "I do not know that you also have become the coach of USA's MD." Lol.

Tony, well, he *was* "coach Christian's National team student" at PBSI but already *moved on* and become a "coach-player" himself...?!?!.."A Coach" vs. "his former national team coach's students/teammates"..gasp...huehuehehe... :p
