Taufik not attending the All England

JAKARTA - Taufik's ambition of becoming an All England champion is postponed again. This is following his absent in the oldest tournament in the world which will be held on Januray 17-22, in Birmingham, England.

The absence of the West Java shuttler in this tournament will be the 2nd time in a row. Prior to that, in the tournament offering a total of US$125,000 this year, Taufik also couldn't compete. Eventhough, he had said he will attend with him targeting as the champion.

Unfortunately, the plan was cancelled by Taufik because as time approached for him to fly to Birmingham, he suffered a right knee injury.

Throughout this time, the no. 8 ranked player in the world already has amassed many titles in several prestigious tournaments. For example, the Olympic gold medal which he won in 2004 in Athena. A year later, he became the champion in the World Championship which was held in Anaheim, U.S. But throughout his badminton career, Taufik has never gotten the All England title.

"Taufik had ask for a permission so he won't compete in the 2006 All England. As a result, we are not sending him there but before that, he will compete in the Swiss Open (January 3-8). After that, he will go back to Jakarta, and will not continue to German Open(January 9-15)" said PBSI Head at Pelatnas, Lius Pongoh, to Jawapos yesterday.

Taufik's absence is probably a reason for the upcoming preparation of his marriage with Ami Gumelar, the youngest daughter of KONI Head President Agum Gumelar. Because, there has been reports, the marriage will be conducted sometimes in February.

"That's what i heard. But i don't know for sure" said Lius.

The ex-national player also added that all players who will compete in the Swiss Open will continue to compete in German. But, he said, for All-England there will be some players changes.

"In All England, PBSI will send men's doubles, if in the previous two tournaments there will be no men's doubles" explained the gentleman who during his playing days got a nickname of Rubber Shuttle.

Indonesia's absence, in the men doubles of the two European tournaments, said Lius, was a request of the men double's coach, Christian Hadinata. "Ko Chris-a friendly name of Christian Hadinata-wanted to give more practice time to his players. Thus, he will not send his players to Swiss and German", he continued.

Lius also added, hopefully these 3 tournaments will act as a sneak peek and gauge the strength of opponents with the upcoming Qualification Round of Thomas and Uber, February 18th in Jaipur, India. Besides that, for the men's doubles it will be an evaluation stage for the purpose of the projecting the pairs for the Thomas Cup.

At this time, in the Thomas Cup "guinea pig" team there are 4 men's double pairs, which are Candra Wijaya/Sigit Budiarto, Luluk Hadiyanto/Alven Yulianto, Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan, dan Flandy Limpele/Eng Hian. Whilst the main team of Thomas Cup only required 3 pairs.

Taufik stays away from All England

Born in Indonesia, I just want to tell that the injury Taufik had was the last time he wanted to go to All England (2005), not now for 2006.

So he is not injured now, he will come to Swiss Open and than go back again,
not going to England because of personal reason (I guess, anyway he asked PBSI for NOT coming to England).

ALVENT TAK MASALAHKAN PERTNER BARU

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Pebulutangkis spesialis ganda Alvent Yulianto mengaku siap bertanding di Copenhagen Masters meski berpasangan dengan partner baru Flandy Limpele.

"Siap, karena kita sudah biasa berpasangan dalam latihan sehingga sudah saling mengerti," ujar Alvent di Jakarta, Selasa.

Alvent yang biasa berpasangan dengan Luluk Hadiyanto mengaku tidak menghadapi masalah berarti meski berpasangan dengan Flandy yang biasa berpasangan dengan Eng Hian.

"Tidak ada masalah, malah enak badannya gede," ujarnya merujuk Flandy pemain kidal yang bertubuh tinggi.

Kendati tidak dibebani target apapun oleh pelatihnya dalam turnamen invitasi yang menyediakan hadiah 320.000 DDK Alvent mengatakan ingin menjadi juara pada kejuaraan akhir tahun yang digelar 27-29 Desember mendatang itu.

Lawan pertama yang dihadapi pasangan tersebut adalah ganda terkuat Cina Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun yang akhir pekan lalu menjuarai turnamen invitasi Piala Dunia Saiqi di negaranya dengan mengalahkan pasangan Indonesia Candra Wijaya/Sigit Budiarto.

"Mudah-mudahan mereka kelelahan setelah bertanding di kejuaraan itu," ujar Alvent berseloroh saat ditanya kemungkinan menghadapi ganda Cina itu.

Pelatih ganda putra Christian Hadinata mengatakan dipasangkannya Alvent dan Flandy untuk bertanding di Copenhagen dilakukan berdasarkan dua pertimbangan.

Christian mengatakan sebenarnya Alvent diundang ke turnamen tersebut bersama pasangannya Luluk Hadiyanto."Namun karena Luluk membutuhkan persiapan yang lebih panjang untuk All England maka diputuskan ia tidak diberangkatkan," katanya.

"Kalau dia ikut Copenhagen Masters persiapannya ke All England hanya sebentar karena waktunya hanya selisih beberapa hari saja," tambahnya. All England digelar pada 17-22 Januari 2006.

Pertimbangan lainnya, kata Christian adalah untuk menyiapkan ganda cadangan jika terjadi sesuatu dengan pasangan-pasangan putra yang sudah disiapkan untuk menghadapi turnamen Piala Thomas.

"Harus ada cadangan ganda putra di Piala Thomas. Mudah-mudahan tidak terjadi apa-apa misalnya sakit atau cedera pada ganda-ganda yang ada, tetapi kalaupun terjadi setidaknya ada yang disiapkan dan sudah diuji coba dalam suatu turnamen tidak hanya dalam latihan," paparnya.

Meski demikian, Christian mengatakan tidak akan menjadikan pasangan itu sebagai ganda tetap di pelatnas karena hingga saat ini pasangan Luluk/Alvent masih menunjukkan prestasi yang bagus.

"Tidak sejauh itu (memisahkan Luluk dan Alvent), dari sisi prestasi memang jarang menjadi juara tetapi ranking (empat dunia) dan performance mereka masih dalam batas yang stabil," kata Christian.

Hingga saat Pelatnas Cipayung menyiapkan keempat pasangan putra utama untuk Piala Thomas yakni Candra/Sigit, Luluk/Alvent, Flandy/Eng Hian dan Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan untuk menghadapi Piala Thomas yang akan digelar di Jepang pada 28 April-7 Mei 2006.

"Nanti setelah dievaluasi secara keseluruhan akan dipilih tiga pasangan untuk memperkuat tim inti," katanya.

Sementara itu, juara dunia sekaligus juara Olimpiade Taufik Hidayat yang dikonfirmasi mengenai ketidak-ikutsertaannya di All England 17-22 Januari, mengaku belum dapat memastikan.

Berbeda dengan pernyataan Taufik, Ketua Sub Bidang Pelatnas PB PBSI, Lius Pongoh justru memastikan bahwa pemain peringkat delapan dunia itu absen di All England.

"Tidak berangkat, alasannya pribadi, mau menikah. Panitia All England juga menanyakan mengapa ia tidak berangkat, saya beri tahu alasannya itu," ujar Lius yang mengatakan menurut kabar yang didengarnya Taufik akan menikah pada 4 Februari.

Even then, Christian said this pairing will not be permanent because Luluk/Alven are still performing well.
