I just bought the latest tabloid bola, and according to the sport calendar there and also jawapos.com, this year's Indonesia Open will be held in Surabaya from 31 May until 4 June... But, according worldbadminton.net, it will be held in Jakarta from 31 May until 4 June... Can anyone tell me which one is right?

I think it's gonna be in Surabaya. I found out about this from my friend who talked to the head of the Indonesia Open organiser.

Indonesian Open....its gonna be a blast for taufik. If Lin Dan competes, I hope Taufik will beat the daylights out of his badminton racquet. Furthermore, its his country. There will be some real celebration if Lin is defeated especially by taufik. Anyway, Lin's winning too much titles.....I symphathy other players....;)

Hmmm, come to think about it, this is true quite recently. He tends to perform very well against top players. But recently has lost to LCW and Boonsak, the trend is going the other direction now. I don't see him being able to beat LD anytime soon...

Anyway, moving back to badminton. It is true that Indonesian players should think of other players apart from Lin Dan. Not only Boonsak, LCW, etc. There are other strong contenders such as Chen Jin, Lee Hyun Il (Current defending champion).

I just hope by that time, Indonesian players have fully adapted the new scoring system. Otherwise, they will be in deep, deep trouble. Especially Taufik who seems to whine about it. Taufik's level of play will surely drop if he comes on the court disliking the battle environment.

Many people judge that CH, LD, LCW, PG are excellent players, but if you look at the head-to-head statistics against Taufik, we will see.

I am an indonesian and i have malaysian friends of melayu or indian or chinese ethnicity who studied at the same university with me here in indonesia. As far as i can recall, we always address malaysian as "orang malaysia" never as malay. for years i never thought it was an offending nickname. But for indon terminology, it is offending. i confirm that from my malaysian friend. she said that some people in malaysia look down to indonesian people because of the large number of uneducated indonesian trying to make a living in malaysia by doing unwanted hard, dirty and dangerous jobs there. and sometimes these indonesians commit crimes in malaysia(it is a common sense that low education and economic background are factors predisposing to crime).
When people hates something or other people, it is almost natural that they come up with bad names. hey i called my enemies who used to bully me at school bad names:D . And that's how indonesian get their "indon" terminology.
as i said it is almost natural to call bad names but people can choose not to. It is hard but you can always resist the temptation. you see,there are good indonesian who are educated,kind, loving,and peaceful toward other people.

I believe kwun made a typo :D The correct date should be after Phil. Open, May 28th to June 4th. These will be followed by the neighbouring opens like Singapore and Malaysia Opens.

i,m so sorry for the late reply. i use public computer with limited budget in my pocket so i rarely surf. The answer for your question is no. I live far away in kalimantan so i'm pretty much stuck here if u know what i mean. Tv,newspaper and occasionally internet is all we have here. thank you for asking and enjoy th tournament.:)

You mean they haven't won any tournament lately because Bao took the Denmark Open in 2005 while Wong grabbed the 2003 China Open and a few others if I'm not mistaken.

While Taufik is very good when he's on form and motivated, but lately it seems like he's not trying as hard maybe due to lack of motivation. I don't like that attitude/behavior because to me, if you are entering in a tournament, you should always try to do your best to win even if the tournament isn't a major or prestigious one. Why bother entering when you are not even going to try your best?

A surprisingly competitive XD field. All the top 5 pairs, except for Zhang Jun/Gao Ling are there. It's gonna be very very difficult for Nova/Butet to retain their title....unless they can beat 2 of the pairs above them. My preference is for them to meet Xie Zhongbo/Zhang Yawen in the semi-final. Hopefully, they will avoid other dangerous pairs such as Sudket/Saralee on the route to the semi-final.

As for MD, good chance for Markis/Hendra and esp Luluk/Alvent to win the title. With Luluk/Alvent seeded 1st and Markis/Hendra seeded 6th, they should make the quarter-final with ease. No top pairs from China, Denmark, or Malaysia also means that the only pairs providing the challenge will be the 2 young Malaysian pairs, Guo Zhendong/Xie Zhongbo, and possibly Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae. With some luck in the draw, I hope Hendra/Joko will also make it to the quarter-final.

Finally, the world #1 shuttler is certainty absent in IO-06 after the organizer received the report from IBF yesterday.Quoted from CHN's Bdm Federation, the IO-organizer said LD is not in a good condition or he is really sick so the federation apologized if Indonesian public dissapointed about this condition (the organizer has promoted before that LD will play in Surabaya).As its consequence, CHN is still send their 2nd MS BCL (listed on 4th seed after LCW-LHI-KJ).Meanwhile, TH is well prepared to present his best perform in IO after his disaster losing in TC.Mia Audina is also already to be a champion here in Surabaya.She has been 2 weeks living and training in Jakarta to adapted the weather as her preparation to compete in this 6* tourney.Be ready for LD: LCW has a big mission to topple him from top-rank in next-week battle. i'm quite surprised that mia is willing to play in indonesia, she ever said that he wouldn't play any tournament in indonesia, she doesn't want to 'hurt' indonesian feeling, btw mia has decided she won't play in uber cup in jakarta 2008

Nice clarification out there.. n there are sarawak n sabah natives (Kadazans, Ibans....) who look like Malays but actually they arent n they are usually christians, not muslim

i had this experience when a chinese tour guide refers us as 'Ma Lai Ren' which means malays n i thought it's because i look tan?

Quoted from KOMPAS(31/05-06): Sony withdrew from IO-06 yesterday because he was injured on his left-thigh so he decided not to participate (he was very dissapointed that he cancelled to perform in his homeland Surabaya).Then, CHN's youngster Qiu Yanbo is walk-over automatically to 2nd round because the organizer can't re-draw to replace Sony for this case (his withdrew was suddenly,one day before the main-draw is starting).Meanwhile,INA's WS squad 'only' represented by Firda-Maria Kristin and Aprilia. Nana lost tragically yesterday from KOR's Jun Jae Youn (unbelieveable after Nana won 1st set and lead on 2nd + 3rd set!).
