BASEL: Malaysian number one Lee Chong Wei stayed on course for his first title of the year, easily clearing his second round match at the Swiss Open here yesterday.
Seeded number one, Chong Wei made short work of youngster Michael Christensen of Denmark, winning 15-7, 15-9 to set up a third round meeting with South Korean Park Sung-hwan.

Three other Malaysians – Wong Choong Hann, Yeoh Kay Bin, and Sairul Amar Ayob – also joined two-time Malaysian Open champion Chong Wei in the third round.
Choong Hann and Sairul will take on Danes Kasper Oedum and Niels Christian Kaldau respectively while Kay Bin will meet South Korean Lee Hyun-il.
In the men’s doubles, back-up shuttlers Gan Teik Chai-Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif were the only Malaysian pair to fall in the first round.
The third seeds went down 15-13, 15-17, 12-15 to China’s Guo Zhengdong-Xie Zhongbo.
Scratch pair Choong Hann-Choong Tan Fook did well to clear the opening round. They defeated England’s Ian Palethorpe-Kristian Roebuck 17-14, 15-5 to earn the right to meet top seeds Mathias Boe-Carsten Morgensen of Denmark for a place in the quarter-finals.
Three other Malaysian pairs – national champions Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari-Lin Woon Fui, Tan Bin Shen-Ong Soon Hock and second seeds Chan Chong Ming-Koo Kien Keat – are also in contention for berths in the last eight.
