View Full Version : Swiss Open 2006 Semis (Saturday)
hcyong 01-07-2006, 12:31 AM Predictions
MS
Lee CW bt Wong CH (70% confidence)
Gade bt Xia XZ (90%)
Too bad for the "Wong v Xia" romantics. :)
WS
Pi HY bt Zhu Lin (60%)
Mia bt Xu HW (55%)
I expect both to be close encounters.
MD
Boe/Mogensen bt Jung JS/Lee YD (70%)
Chan/Koo bt Sang/Zheng (51%)
Despite good results so far, the Koreans still an unknown quantity to me. Against an established Danish pair, I give them less chance.
WD
Lee KW/Lee HJ bt Zhang Dan/Zhao TT (70%)
Du/Yu bt Chin/Wong (60%)
I have been underestimating my compatriots, but I think Du/Yu will be really too much for them. Of course, I hope they prove me wrong again. I think Lee/Lee would have beaten Zhang Dan/Zhang Yawen or Wei/Zhao anyway, so don't think Zhang Dan/Zhao TT would make any difference.
XD
Blair/Munt bt Clark/Kellogg (75%)
Robertson/Emms bt Zheng Bo/Zhao TT (90%)

**KZ** 01-07-2006, 01:23 AM LCW will beat WCH..but choong hann is on a good form now as he showned in beating hyun il so easily..in fact both are on good form..may be a close match..
i also think Chin/Wong has a chance of beating Du/Yu...they are on their best form lately...they've beaten wei yili/zhao tingting and another chinese pair i don't see why they can't beat Du/Yu..

The news first reported that China team will skip this year Swiss open, now China spare team is still dominant in this Swiss open with 6 quarter finalists, and especially covers all 5 events (6 quarter-finalists in 5 events). Other badminton power houses, Malaysia, has 4 quarter-finalists in 3 events. England 3 quarter-finalists in 1 event, Denmark 2 quarter-finalists in 2 events, Korea 2 quarter-finalists in 2 events. Indonesia has 0 this time.
It is difficult for Zheng Bo and Zhaoo TT, because both of them have to fight two matches in a short time across different events, MD, LD, and XD. If their Mixed double is not arranged first match of the day, then they will probably lose. Peter Gade is capable, but his problem is that he always chokes at big time.
**KZ** 01-07-2006, 09:18 AM wah..1st match only going to start at 1 am m'sian time..so late..
anyway...m'sia boleh
Loopy 01-07-2006, 09:21 AM Can anyone record and share the WS semi with Hongyan Pi and Zhu Lin?
LOovely ladies :p

Which means that both Zheng Bo and Zhao TT have to play 2 events' matches in evening time with little time to rest in between.
One question: is IBF encouraging players playing multiple events or just single event?
Quetion2: is IBF promoting more on single events or double events?
In tennis, Wimbledon as example, the prize money are in the single events dominantly. Over 5 million $ for both men, women single players, with 1 million $ for the champs. While for mens double and womens double, only 1 million totally with 0.3 million $ goes to the champs. and Mixed double, got only 0.1 million $.
Badminton, on the other site, seems to promote doubles more. Especially mens doubles, their prize often is higher than any others if not at least equal to. Also Badminton discriminates women severely, for example, the Denmark master, only has men's single, men's double and xd. I remember a lot of legal problems in tennis opens if they did not treat women equally.

In badminton the highest money prize still in MS than WS and then MD and then WD and XD. Although the amount of MD prize money is higher than WS but remember that the MD prize money had to be share 50:50 while the WS player had all the money prize for herself.

hmmm.. lets see - i would say it's 50:50 for Blair and Munt vs Clark and Kellog especially after their outstanding win against Lee/Lee last night..
Robertson/Emms vs Bo/TT prolly not quite 90% but certainly 75%
the all english mixed semi should be good tho..
altho all the semi's should be good matches probably, by now the in form players are through and it'll come down to fitness and dealing with the pressure..
Coops
PS - shame i'm out tonight - won't be watching any of the live scoring :(

my favorites in bold
hcpoirot 01-07-2006, 01:36 PM Updated result:
Zhang Dan/Zhao TingTing managed to do what they never achieve when Zhao pair with WYL and ZD pair with ZYW, they beat the Korean pairs 2 sets :
17:16 15:9
Zhu Lin suprisingly beat Pi Hong Yan easily 11:3 11:2
Chan/Koo won WO against Sang/Zheng.
2cents 01-07-2006, 01:37 PM Chan/Koo bt Sang/Zheng (51%) Sang/Zheng
Sorry to know that Sang/Zheng got injured. Injured in which part of the body? Hope not in the mind. Those two guys just cannot get along.
hcpoirot 01-07-2006, 01:43 PM Another update:
Robert B/Natalie M won over Anthony C/Donna K in 2 sets 15:11 15:11
Meanwhile Xia leading Peter 8:2 in first set
2cents 01-07-2006, 01:50 PM as I expected, XIA Xuanze tamed GADE CHRISTENSEN Peter in the 1st set by 15:2 quickly, and leading in the 2nd set 4:0; while Lee Chong Wei rally from behind to 8:3 with WONG CH
jerby 01-07-2006, 01:54 PM as I expected, XIA Xuanze tamed GADE CHRISTENSEN Peter in the 1st by 15:2
Xia can still play ball!wow..
even tough I'm cheerign for Gade...
hcpoirot 01-07-2006, 01:54 PM Suprise! Xia is on fire. He won 15:2 in first set over Peter. Second set he is leading 2:0
Lee Chong Wei VS Wong Choong Hann 4:3 in first set
other 01-07-2006, 01:55 PM Chan/Koo won WO against Sang/Zheng.
anyone know what happened in more detail? the live-scoring showed 15-0 and then i stopped watching it....so they played the first set?
Wow, Xia won game 1 15-2 and is leading 3-0 in game 2. Choon Hann and Chong Wei score is 8-3, Xia vs Choon Hann may actually comes thru just waiting for the cooperation of Chong Wei.
Chan/Koo WO again, one more WO will get them the first title of the year :-)
Chong Wei is not coorperating leading 9-3 in game 1
2cents 01-07-2006, 02:06 PM Chong Wei is not coorperating leading 9-3 in game 1
Wong CH can grab some point as long as he wants no matter what Lee CH decides. Wong just got another 12 more points to claim the 1st set as a testing for Lee, Wong may use the 2nd set as another kind of testing for Lee CW, then Wong will grab more points as long as Wong think it's the time, I mean, in the 3rd set.
hcpoirot 01-07-2006, 02:20 PM 12 all in second set between Xia and Peter. 3 more point to go, Xia! :D
other 01-07-2006, 02:21 PM come on xia....3 more points
12-12 in the second
-----------
make that 13-12
hcpoirot 01-07-2006, 02:22 PM 14:12 now! One more!!!!
2cents 01-07-2006, 02:24 PM Xia got the 2nd set. Although I wish they could play 3 sets so that Zhao TT can get some rest for her 2nd match this evening. She must be exhausted before the Mixed double semi.
hcpoirot 01-07-2006, 02:25 PM Xia won! 15 : 2 15 :12.
At last he can forget his awful last year achievement and begin new this year by making it into the final beating 3 seeded and strong player. Hafiz, SSM and now Peter Gade.
hcpoirot 01-07-2006, 02:29 PM With his step into the final I boldly predict that LYB will pick Xia into the Thomas Cup squad again. With his skill and his experience in team event, he will make a very strong third singles.

Sure. You are right. Bao CL knows how to play, but he doesn't know how to win. Xia knows how to win, that's important.
2cents 01-07-2006, 02:36 PM Wong CH can grab some point as long as he wants no matter what Lee CH decides. Wong CH seems to lose his cool. Wong just let Lee to fight Xia in the final. How disappointed! :(
010101 01-07-2006, 02:45 PM Welcome back, Xia. A fantastic start in new year.
Simp84 01-07-2006, 02:46 PM Welcome back, Xia. A fantastic start in new year.
Ya hes on fire lately!
U can see his determination to come back especially during China Open against Chen Jin!
hcpoirot 01-07-2006, 04:12 PM Sang Yanggot injured so he had to witdrawn from MD and XD match in the SF. Too bad.:(
At least Zhao TT still got her chance in WD tomorrow.
So tomorrow final will be:
MS : Xia Xuan Ze VS Lee Chong Wei
WS : Zhu Lin VS Xu Huai Wen
MD : Boe/Morgensen VS Chang/Koo
WD: Zhang/Zhao TT VS Du /Yu
XD : Nathan/Gail VS Blair/Munt.
So far China and England already got 1 title from WD and XD .

So, China is unbeatable in all semis, unbeatable by their opponents, but beatable by injuries. with 4 out of 6 advanced, the other 2 withdrew. None was defeated.
By the way, I think it is Zheng Bo instead Sang Yang withdrew from both events.
I'm so pleased that Xia beat Gade and Xu beat Mia. :D :D
yingcheng 01-07-2006, 05:32 PM i cant imagine xia beat peter gade in 2 straight sets..i think it would be a close 3 sets game..Xia is really on fire!
go go go brother BIG MOUTH!!!:D
rwchen 01-07-2006, 06:48 PM Congratulations to Xia for beating Peter Gade in straight games. He is certainly making a strong comeback this year. I am not sure about the chances of Lee CW being crowned the title. The Chinese squad is doing well despite the absence of their top shuttlers especially WD. They dominate the event by making it an all Chinese affair in the final. Zhu Lin also stole the show by beating Pi Yan Hong easily. Let's see whether she can beat Xu HW in the final. The MS and WS finals promises some excitement tonite!
terry 01-07-2006, 07:48 PM So, is there live at ASTRO?
I was awake till 3am also didn't see Astro got LIVE. Haiya too bad lah!. Astro should put more badminton tournament into LIVE! :crying:

Huh, I thought Zheng Bo is the one playing mixed double, not Sang Yang? How come he also withdrew from XD? Or have they been beaten by the English pair?
Anyway, I love to see Xia's name in the final again. Go Xia!!
sabathiel 01-07-2006, 09:53 PM Anybody knows the score between Mia Audina vs Xu HW in the semifinals?
Cheung 01-08-2006, 12:24 AM Sure. You are right. Bao CL knows how to play, but he doesn't know how to win. Xia knows how to win, that's important.
Have both in the team to keep the opposition guessing!!
