WOMEN'S SINGLES
From 5 China players, only Jiang Yian Jiao lost in second round by her own team mate, Wang Lin. With this result, the Uber Cup is 100% in China hand. No other Uber team third singles can beat China third singles now even without Zhou Mi as their third singles.
The most uprising from Chinese young players is Wang Lin. She only enter 4-5 events last year, and she managed to reach 2 QF in a row this year beating Top 10 player.

 Are you sure??? Simon even couldn't beat Lee Hyun-ill in the Swiss Open last week, so how come if he could beat the first ranking of the world?
Maybe your semifinal prediction is still realistic, but well, for Final, if LD vs Simon, I am sure that LD will still win.:D ...Simon is lacking of consistency I think. He should get more experience

Hey, didn't you make a similar prediction for the Swiss Open? ;)
Well anyway, it would be nice to see Simon succeeding at last, as he is still far from having confirmed the high potential he was showing a few years ago...
indra 01-13-2006, 02:50 AM Hey, didn't you make a similar prediction for the Swiss Open? ;)

With the withdrawal of Bao, at least this will boost Simon's mental strength. Simon in the past once defeated top players unexpectedly. It is true that Simon lacks experience. Technically speaking, he is on par with other top players. His mental strength needs to be improved. Being able to reach the big 8 in the tournament in which top players participate will at least give him an extra motivation to achieve further.
It is true Lin Dan is 2 levels above SImon...yet if Simon can reach the final, LD should be very very careful....
zia.ufrida 01-13-2006, 02:51 AM I think it can be. Lin Dan target is All England title. So maybe Lin will save his performance in german. Simon have a good playing technic. He just need good mental to face the world number 1.

Huh? How?
While he should be able to beat Oedum, I think he'll run into a wall in Chen Jin. Chen Jin's pretty hungry to break through himself and has shown great form in the last little while. Good luck to Simon all the same and I hope he can prove me wrong.
eskey 01-13-2006, 03:13 AM I still bet for Lin Dan to win the title. As for Simon, I am happy that he can reach QF (some more beating 2 higher ranking players) and the very reasonable target for him to enter SF, if he can go to Final that is bonus. By sending him more regular to the big tournaments will make him stronger mentally and have higher chance to become top player in the world :)

You are serious aren't you? You are not making silly and ridiculous comments for fun. I think you will be proven wrong once again and your badminton credibility will be destroyed forever. However if you are right this time then maybe we should take more notice of your crazy predictions. After all you predicted Simon to win the Swiss Open and he got thrashed!:D

Why don't you leave him alone?
Everyone is free to make the predictions he wants.
Everyone is free to support the players he likes.
There's nothing "silly and ridiculous" to that. You can disagree (I don't think Simon will win either tbh) but this doesn't stop you from respecting other's opinions.

I am all for free speech and respecting other people's right to express their opinion but with free speech there are consequences. Everyone is also free to criticise other people's opinions especially when these opinions are absurd and the person expressing the opinion claims that he/she is objective. There is nothing disrepectful in my polite criticism of this individual. This dispute has a history from a long debate which I doubt you followed. The person actually claimed that his opinions are objective and credible when he argued that Taufik is the greatest badminton player in history and Taufik is greater than Rudy Hartono. So back off buddy you don't know what you are getting into! Everyone is free to express their opinions and that includes me criticising people who claim to be objective when in fact they are extremely subjective bordering silly.:p
OK, Sabathiel (and Indra for that matter), I can see where this is going. Please be more respectful to others. The "Taufik AE" thread was more than enough.
Disagreeing is one thing, calling somebody "ridiculous" and "crazy" is another thing.
Consider this as a last warning.

Yeah! I think Chen Hong has the chance to win this tourney.. CH and LD can beat each other at one time or another though it won't matter to me much if it's Lin Dan or Chen Hong or even Chen Jin who wins this tourney since they are all Chinese. Too bad Bao withdrew.. was he injured?

Yah... is Bao injured???  Hope he can make it to AE2006... Though Lin Dan has high high chance, but guess I'll place my bets on Chen Hong this time (cos i hope he can win LD).... :D :D

First game for LHI, 15-11
seven 01-13-2006, 10:43 AM Zhang/Yang are already through to the semis.
And the only potential non-chinese WD in the semis (Lee/Lee) are in a bad position, having lost the first game 15-10 to Zhang/Wei. (though leading 6-3 now...)
badMania 01-13-2006, 11:19 AM Its 1 set all between Wei/Zhang vs Lee/Lee as well as for Chen vs Lee.
tehsham 01-13-2006, 11:27 AM Its 1 set all between Wei/Zhang vs Lee/Lee as well as for Chen vs Lee.
Wei/Zhang are roaming home, whilst Chen still crawling in the rubber set
tehsham 01-13-2006, 11:34 AM Wei/Zhang are roaming home, whilst Chen still crawling in the rubber set
Chen is home first 11-15, 15-3,15-10, whilst Wei/Zhang still at 14-13
badMania 01-13-2006, 11:34 AM Wei/Zhang are roaming home, whilst Chen still crawling in the rubber set
Chen Jin won! It's nervy moments in the women's doubles. The Chinese were leading 14-6, then the Korean got back to 14-13. Service now goes back to the Chinese.
badMania 01-13-2006, 11:36 AM The Chinese pair seals it 15-13 in the rubber game. So, it looks like an all-Chinese affair in the semi-final.

Just to correct your error, I never called anybody "ridiculous" or "crazy". I said the comment is ridiculous and the prediction is crazy. I think this is different from attacking the person and is acceptable in proper debate (ie attacking the facts and arguments and not the person).
I don't remember being warned before so how can this be a last warning. You only get one warning around here?
badMania 01-13-2006, 11:47 AM A good start by Simon, he leads Kaspar Oedum 9-4 in the first set.
badMania 01-13-2006, 11:54 AM As predicted...Kaspar Oedum is not an easy opponent....he levels it 9-9.
badMania 01-13-2006, 11:57 AM Simon pulls ahead 13-9 before service changes back to the German.
badMania 01-13-2006, 12:00 PM Anthony Clark/Robert Clair finally beats Hwang Ji Man/Han Sang Hoon 15-9, 17-15.
Simon takes the first set 15-9. Hopefully, no screw-ups in the second set.
badMania 01-13-2006, 12:12 PM Its level at 8-8 in the second set....pretty tight game. Everytime Simon pulls ahead, Oedum manages to tie it.
badMania 01-13-2006, 12:16 PM Simon gets 3 points in a row to make it 11-8, but Oedum yet again closes it to 11-10. Still too tight to tell....
2cents 01-13-2006, 12:18 PM Its level at 8-8 in the second set....pretty tight game. Everytime Simon pulls ahead, Oedum manages to tie it.
why so worried? Simon is way ahead of Oedum, several levels up. If Simon did fail, then he must be injured, or sick or lost his mind that time.
What I worry is that how he plays Chen Jin next round, that's a real test for Simon.

Err...I wouldn't want to be so sure. Oedum is a hardworking, stubborn player. He took the first set against Bao yesterday. The way things go in the first set and second set, Simon certainly does not have it easy for him (compared to vs Sato or even Joppien). Everytime he leads, Oedum catches him (esp in the second set). As I am typing, Oedum wins the second set 15-12.
What can I say.....

Incredible...the best chance for Simon to reach semi-final...and yet he succumbed to injuries
At what odds will you have Oedum reaching the semi-final before the start of the tournament? 2 back to back withdrawals.....unbelievable.....

Don't worry. Oedum can shine only this time once while Simon has much better future. It's not that hard to reach semi, like Oedum did. The harder thing is to reach semi constantly. Simon will have his peak time, that's for sure
yingcheng 01-13-2006, 01:14 PM XXF lost to Lu Lan (11-6, 6-11, 5-11):crying: :crying:

i mean i still support chinese football team;)
---------
back on topic,
WANG Lin 3:2 WANG Chen (first set)
LEE, LEE 7:15 7:2 GUO, YU
mmm if all goes to plan...well the chinese team plan, i wonder who will be the only chinese to be knocked out today....either CH or LY:p
Darth Andrianus 01-13-2006, 02:12 PM Man, this is absolutely unbelievable. There are so many chinese this tournament is going to get really boring. Denmark needs a new Camilla Martin and Korea needs a new KDM/RKM, but that's another thread...:)
other 01-13-2006, 02:13 PM mmm maybe not everyone will go thru:p
Wang Chen leads by 1 set and 5:0 with serve in the second
Zhang, Zhao leading 8:1 Ha, Hwang
Lee, Lee and Guo, Yu tied at 1 set all (7:15 15:9) rubber game about to begin
blckknght 01-13-2006, 02:35 PM Lee Jae Jin and Lee Hyo Jung making a great comeback in the 3rd game... they've regained the serve at 12-12, and now they lead 13-12.
blckknght 01-13-2006, 02:36 PM Jung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Dae starting the first game against Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun, Korea leads 3-2 with the chinese serving
blckknght 01-13-2006, 02:39 PM Robert Blair and Natalie Munt vs Xie Zhongbo and Zhang Yawen first game about to start
GUO Zhendong/YU Yang take the serve back from Lee Jae Jin/Lee Hyo Jung but are not able to move their score. Lee/Lee match point!
Lee/Jung lead 6-3 over Cai/Fu but that can't last:-)
Man, this is absolutely unbelievable. There are so many chinese this tournament is going to get really boring. Denmark needs a new Camilla Martin and Korea needs a new KDM/RKM, but that's another thread...:)
to be fair, part of the reason the Chinese are so dominating in the GO is that most other countries are not at full force. MAS isn't around, INA isn't fielding their top players, DEN decides to stay home. even ENG is holding back Robertson/Emms.
only KOR seems to be playing their best players but to be honest, i think KOR is at an adjustment stage right now where they are left with mainly younger and less experienced players.
everybody's true colors will be shown next week in the AE.
blckknght 01-13-2006, 02:40 PM Lee Jae Jin/Lee Hyo Jung beat Guo Zhendong/Yu Yang 7:15,15:9,15:12
Lee Yong Dae/Jung Jae Sung lead Fu/Cai 8:5
blckknght 01-13-2006, 02:43 PM Agree with Kwun. China and Korea are taking the German Open as All England warm-up, and Indonesia, Denmark, Malaysia took the Swiss Open as a warm up for All England. We'll see what's what at the All England.
Why is Shon Seung Mo having such trouble finding form? We know he's capable of great things, but he seems not to be 100% since Athens.

Kasper is 26. He's actually quite a competent player, but he's been plagued by reoccurring injuries.
