MEN'S SINGLES
Lin Dan vs Chen Hong (Lin probably win in 3 sets or two tight sets)
Chen Jin vs Kaspar Oedum ( Chen had a very big chance to reach his first IBF final.)
Will Simon be punished by PBSI cause he failed to made it to SF?
MEN'S DOUBLES QUARTER FINAL
Anthony Clark/Robert Blair vs Liu Kwok Wa/Albertus Susanto Njoto
Tadashi Ohtsuka/Keita Masuda VS Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae(MATCH OF THE ROUND) Korea had a new hope in this pair.
WOMEN'S SINGLES
Zhang Ning vs Zhu Lin
Wang Chen VS Lu Lan (MATCH OF THE ROUND) Can Lu Lan made another giant killer after beating Xu Huai Wen and XXF?
WOMEN’S DOUBLES
After China WYL/ZTT and ZD/ZYW switch each other into new pairs, they successfully won again Lee/Lee from Korea which they never did before. Look like this new formation work.
Gao Ling/Huang Sui vs Zhang Dan/Zhao Tingting
Yang Wei/Zhang Jiewen VS Zhang Yawen/Wei Yili
MIXED DOUBLES
Lee Jae Jin/Lee Hyo Jung vs Xie Zhongbo/Zhang Yawen (MATCH OF THE ROUND)
Daniel Shirley/Sara Runesten-Petersenvs Zhang Jun/Gao Ling
So far ZJ/ GL had a very nice draw through SF.

A pity that Anggun/Yunita lost tamely to Zhang/Gao.
it shows they are not at chinese pair class yet, maybe only nova/butet can challenge them.
the only field without chinese affair is MD, the rest chinese will take them all.
surprise that Fu/Cai lost to the Korean pair, now hope they can go all the way to take the title.

I think the most exciting match to watch is
Xie Zhongbo/Zhang Yawen vs Lee Jae-jin/Lee Hyo-jung
Xie/Zhang has won twice against Lee/Lee, both in a very tight rubber set (the last one is in HK Open). Let's hope Zhang yawen can win again to Lee Hyo-jung just like she did in QF of WD yesterday (in a very tight game). Btw anyone has this match????
And there is any picture of German Open 2006??

Actually, I have been there for a while, but I was too busy to take any pictures of the players.
So I promise to all our BC members to make shots today.
By the way, I was introduced to Xia Xuanze and Lin Dan. Further I had to manage my club's players taking part in the tournament (Wu Yun Yong, Ingo Kindervater (MD, defeated Sang/(Zheng?), Birgit Overzier etc.)
Xia is a really nice person. He told me yesterday shortly before his match against Lin Dan that he is in very good shape and confident. Unfortunately, Lin Dan knows how to play against him.
Xia will come after the Thomas Cup to Germany if his club team will free him.
The most sad thing for all badminton fans is that Bao Chunlai is injured. So he can't play further and of course, all England is over for him now. Kasper Oedum reached the semi finals after he won once again against Simon Santoso who gave up because of injury. A Lucky Guy!
But Chen Jin is my favourite now!
The MS match Lee Hyunil against Chen Jin was definitely the match of the day. I'm eager to see the finals match between Chen Jin and Lin Dan.

With so many 3 setters so far, I wonder if she will finally run out of gas against ZN. Regardless, she is just ANOTHER in the line of upcoming Chinese WS players to shine in international competition. She 's surely thrown her hat into the ring for the 3rd WS spot for the China Uber Cup Team. The Chinese are so stacked in WS it's SICK. They could easily put out two contending Uber Cup teams.
Hopefully Lu Lan will put up a good effort against ZN in the final.

Chen vs Chen is good. I saw their playing last October twice in a week with split results. Hong looked more powerful but less agile than Jin. Anyway, Lin Dan looked more aggressive than both Chens.

At the beginning of this year, Li Yongbo answered question from reporters who's going to the Thomas cup, Li said Chen Jin would be the 3rd men's single. But he did not mention who would be the 1st and the 2nd. I assume that Lin Dan should be the 1st, but not sure about the 2nd. The 2nd could be Chen Hong or Bao CL. I don't know what's in Li Yongbo's mind. I think Chen Hong is much better than Bao CL while Bao CL holds higher ranking. What you guys think?

Its probably depend on the opponent.
Example : if China met Indonesia and the second single is Taufik, China will 100% play BCL.
China have 5 good MS now, LD, BCL, CH, CJ and XXZ. So they had lot of choices to pick for Thomas single. Even if LD and BCL didn't play and CH,CJ and XXZ play the three singles, any other countries had to fight real hard to beat the three of them.
So jealous...:p Wish Indonesia quickly find another Taufik, or it will be over for us for few years ahead.

Another thought:
Same for Uber Cup. Even if they rest ZN and XXF, it will be impossible for other countries to beat China.
Example:
First WS : Zhu Lin
First double : Yang/Zhang
Second WS : Lu Lan
Second double : Gao/Huang
Three WS : WangLin, Jiang YJ or Wang YH

If Sony's ranking goes ahead of Taufik's ranking prior to Thomas Cup (due to the lack of touranment that Taufik is playing), Bao Chunlai will more likely be China's second single when China plays against Indonesia. Bao has a much better record against Taufik than Chen Hong.
But so many things may have been changed since the beginning of this year. Maybe Li will change his mind about Chen Jin being the 3rd singles when Thomas Cup finals arrive.

agree with you. Chen Hong has beaten Lin Dan a few times alr. He is better than Bao Chun Lai. The malaysian players have a harder time and tougher match playing against Chen Hong compared to playing against Chun Lai.

Are you kidding? Indonesia will never play Taufik as second singles because the team formation is based on ranking. So, unless Sony rises up the ranking tables before the Thomas Cup final, its nearly impossible to see them fielding Sony as first singles.
Team Indonesia is really having a hard time finding a good singles player. But that's partly due to their own unwillingness to field the young players in overseas tournaments. Chen Jin's meteoric rise is one further testament that no matter how much trainings one have, it's important to have the match experience against top pairs. Chen Jin is used to losing in the early rounds. But once his moments come, eg: in Denmark Open and China Open, he really shows he's a star for the future. Unfortunately for Team Indonesia's case, Simon doesn't even come close.....what a pity.....

another typical example of how badminton is not like math ...
"A" might beat "B" with no problems but will have hard time with "C" while B can beat "C" easily with no problems.
it all depends on the style of playing and how good you can look through your opponent.

peter gade might not have beaten lin dan but the last encounter was a really close encounter and could of gone either way.

Ch struggles against gade because Gade is attacking and accurate so gives little chance to CH.
LD is not really suited to CH game as he is very accurate and Attacking like gade, but CH is very very fit and LD likes to rally and defend too much, and not take control of the game. LD stamina also not as good as CH.
CH is getting better with age. I keep saying this over again, but when CH more patient not smash smash all the time, he is almost a complete player (just needs to improve his defence.)
Maybe Gao ling is a good influence on Him. He is a tremendous athlete with near perfect technique and should be able to play for many more years (longer than LD IMHO)
IF CH reaches Final in AE2006, it will be his 5th Final appearance in 6 years! a tremendous record, maybe only Hartono can match it.

Try a search for this query. There are many threads comparing these players
(Only a premptive post, not in any way malicious)Remember the title of the thread is German open. I deviated to look forward to AE (sorry Kwun!), and now we are in danger of starting a new topic completely unrelated.
