I was hoping MewChoo to do a "small" upset (I thought she was capable of doing that but Im wrong) but that was never the case. Malaysian ladies still have a long way to go.......sigh....

Actually Choong/Lee are playing better than when they were young. Just that they are alwiz troubled by injuries now.

especially LWW. If i'm not mistaken, they were once No.1 in point ranking b4 injury.

Geez, that is really amazing, improvement on everything. Does this has anything to do with Rexy's coaching? Or it is just that they grew wiser over the years?

Hehe, not improvement on everything. Their stamina and speed are decreasing now.

losing 5-11, 9-11 to the 5th ranked Xu is not a bad score. i believe she can do better but against ZN and XXF is a long...... long wayyyy..... interestingly Wang Chen and Yao Jie were stated from China according to the latest IBF ranking    http://internationalbadminton.org/womensingle.asp

Hmmm... the WS seedings are going according to plan with the exception of Hallam (#8). Pi HY took care of Lu Lan in easier fashion than I thought and Mia took out Jiang YJ in 3 sets. End of the road for the young Chinese girls.

I think order is restored in the women singles and mixed doubles. The best 8 pairs in the world are in the mxd qf. The best 8 women single players also in the qf (apart from Zhu Lin and Yao Jie who are not playing ). Same cannot be said for the men singles and doubles later, which makes it more interesting

Yes, thw woman's game is pretty much predictable except for the occasional lower seed upset. The XD–what can you say? The organizers got the seedings perfect.

I don't think that is true for the last 10 years in MD. Most of the times Indo pairs won. Anyway, I am very disappointed by Candra/Sigit. First carelessly lost to Fu/Cai in World cup, then (should not be carelessly this time) lost to Choong/Lee, both opponents are in the powerful type. Maybe C/S are really too old to have good defence?

Not that they are too old for a good defence but their jump smash are not as strong as 5 years ago. So they can't produce score easily by smashing their opponent like they used to do.

hcpoirot
01-19-2006, 01:48 PM
How old are they now? perhaps after such an illustrious career the magic has finally gone? either that or they can't train as hard as they used to because of their age - or their age has altered the type of game they can play.. unlike the other pensioners near the top (eriksen / lundgaard-hansen) who play a slightly slower but just as effective game..

Coops

Both are in heir 30 or 31 this year.

XZB has to play 3 matches a day? Crazy schedule! Why badminton tournaments, like All England, cannot play 7 days for the main draw plus 2 extra days for the qualification round, like tennis    Actually, in tennis grand slam, even the current asustralian open, it lasts 14 days!

Badminton is just so cheap

Not to mention the prizes only 1 or 2 % from Australian Open prizes :D

The live score really suck. Now they even didn't show who got the serve and who don't. How can theycargemoney for a live show, if their free live scores already so dissapointing. Who dare to try their money for the live show?

Btw, Lativi of Indonesia said they will broadcast live All England from 20-22. But I am doubtful now cause we only had XD in QF and MD in R16.

How come CJ who lead way way ahead now only had one point lead? 12-11. This is the young player bad habit. Taking a pressure off when they had not reach score 15. Now 12 all.

He must be quite cool and relaxed. Must already be prepared. They've got a tough match against the young Malaysians.

Yeah, I think so, I really hope Cai/Fu will win, because
1. they're better than the malaysians
2. i hope they win the AE title again this year
3. its cai yun's birthday!

Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah bt Keita Masuda/Tadashi Ohtsuka 15-11, 15-12
Thomas Laybourn/Lars Paaske bt Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen 12-15, 15-9, 15-11
Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif/Gan Teik Chay bt Jonas Rasmussen/Peter Steffensen 13-15, 15-8, 15-7
Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto bt Sudket Prapakamol/Patapol Ngernsrisuk 15-13, 15-6 (phew)

-- We will have another match between Malaysian pair and Indonesian pair tomorrow. Hopefully, Luluk/Alvent can win. Technically, they are more superior than the young Malaysian pair. But, results so far have suggested that the Malaysian pair is not to be taken lightly.

Jo/Greysia should be appreciated for what they did. DOn't know the score now...but at least they have done their best. I believe, they have a good future if they can stabilize their performance......

Yang/Zhang is still better than them....high class...

its over 15-8 15-9. Bt 8 and 9 its not a bad score. And in 53 minutes. Usually Yang/Zhang won in less than 30 minutes. So its a good fight! :)

It's all over.
Yang/Zhang bt Jo/Greysia 15-8, 15-9 (53 mins)

Overall, an expected result and a good effort by the Indo pair....the key is to be agressive and upping the tempo when necessary. Yang/Zhang has shown that in both sets while down 7-8. Each time, they got 5 quick pts to establish a healthy lead. There was no turning back after that.

Another upset....
Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari/Lin Woon Fui bt Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun 15-3, 15-6

That's unbelievable that they could go down so tamely. Must have been something wrong. So now we have lost #1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 from MD. Only surviving seeds are 2 Jens/Martin and 4 Alven/Luluk

Jens/Martin had the best chances to win the title now cause their nemesis Chandra/Sigit and Cai/Fu already lost. Meanwhile Luluk/Alven had to step up their game if they want to roll to semifinal.

MEN'S DOUBLES QUARTER-FINAL

Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah vs Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae (MATCH OF THE ROUND)
Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari/Lin Woon Fui vs Thomas Laybourn/Lars Paaske
Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif/Gan Teik Chay vs Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto
Guo Zhendong/Xie Zhongbo vs Jens Eriksen/Martin Lundgaard Hansen

-- the Malaysians are on a roll....beating the no 1 and no 3 seed. I predict both pairs will win their respectively matches too tomorrow. After the scare in the second round match (nearly losing to Archer/Lindley), Luluk/Alvent should be more settled mentally and have no problem beating Mohd Zakry/Gan. They have a good chance of winning the AE title as Fu/Cai, Candra/Sigit, Markis/Hendra are already out of the competition. Choong/Lee and Eriksen/Lundgaard Hansen remain their biggest threat to the title.
