MS predictions

Lin Dan bt Wong Choong Hann (maybe only just, Lin has to buck up)
Kenneth Jonassen bt Sairul Amar Ayob
Lee Chong Wei bt Wu Yunyong
Chen Hong bt Yeoh Kay Bin
Chen Jin bt Boonsak
Peter Gade bt Ng Wei
Lee Hyun Il bt Kuan Beng Hong
Shoji Sato bt Joachim Persson

Match of the day: Lin v Wong because Lin has been lacklustre but maybe he is just not fired up yet; Wong is no ordinary opponent and Lin knows that

WS predictions
There will be two rounds played today, R32 and R16. I will only make the R16 predictions.

Zhang Ning bt J Schenck
Eriko Hirose bt N Weckstrom
Lu Lan bt Pi Hongyan
Cheng Shao-Chieh bt P Overzier (Cheng has to get past Hallam first)
Mia bt Jiang Yanjiao
Wang Chen bt Yu Hirayama (Yu v Grether could be a struggle)
Xu Huaiwen bt Wong Mew Choo (or Tine Rasmussen; Wong v Tine interesting)
Xie Xingfang bt Koari Mori (Mori v Seo Yoon Hee also interesting)

Somehow, the WS has become harder to predict than MS.
Match of the day: Lu Lan v Pi Hongyan, Lu has won twice over Pi, will Pi let it be three times in a row?

MD predictions
Two rounds to be played today, R32 and R16.

First quarter
Candra/Sigit v Choong/Lee in R32 has to be match of the round. It is an intriguing match between arguably the best pairs from Malaysia and Indonesia. I think it's 50-50, but if I have to choose the winner, it will be Candra/Sigit, world number 1.
Still not sure if Chan Chong Ming will recover sufficiently to play; if not he will be replaced by Chew Choon Eng. Either way, they should have no problems getting past the Scots but Jung JS/Lee YD is another matter. I think (good recent performance by Koreans) + (inconsistent Malaysians) + (CCM sick; maybe replaced by Chew) = (win for Koreans). The Koreans will be moderately tested first by the Thai second pair.
Candra/Sigit bt Masuda/Ohtsuka
Jung JS/Lee YD bt Koo KK/Chan CM or Chew CE

Second quarter
Cai/Fu bt Lin/Fairuz
Boe/Mogensen bt Laybourn/Paaske (interesting, this one)

Third quarter
Rasmussen/Steffensen bt Gan/Zakry (hard one to predict)
Luluk/Alven bt Sudket/Patapol

Fourth quarter
Guo/Xie is the favourite has Jung TK/Lee JJ because the Koreans have not been showing good results. If they pass the Koreans, I think they have an even chance against Kido/Markis.
There is also an interesting one between Eriksen/Lundgaard and Tan BS/Ong SH.
Guo/Xie bt Markis/Kido
Eriksen/Lundgaard bt Popov/Stoyanov or Langridge/Tonks

If I am not mistaken, the person is Zhu Lin not Lu Lan.

Maybe I am wrong (not too bothered to check). Anyhow, whether Lu Lan or Zhu Lin, it will be a good fight against Pi.

If I am not mistaken, the person is Zhu Lin not Lu Lan.

Yes, it is Zhu Lin who just beat Pi Hongyan twice in a row.

Lu Lan has never beaten Pi Hongyan as far as I know. (but today could be the first time...)

Rachel Hindley vs Eriko Hirose

Cheng Shao-Chieh vs Chien Yu-Chin -- interesting battle between the two Chinese Taipei players

Anybody notice Japan had 3 WS in Top 16 and they still had Kanako Y who didn't enter All England. Meanwhile the Korean lost all their WS players? (The Koreans had a tough draw but that was not an excuses)

The Uber Cup will be interesting to see who will join China in the final? Japan or Netherland? (With a note that Yao Jie regain her health back.)

It's not really an upset. Any match between Indonesia and Malaysia can go one way or another. Yet another bad day for Team Indonesia.
I don't think that is true for the last 10 years in MD. Most of the times Indo pairs won. Anyway, I am very disappointed by Candra/Sigit. First carelessly lost to Fu/Cai in World cup, then (should not be carelessly this time) lost to Choong/Lee, both opponents are in the powerful type. Maybe C/S are really too old to have good defence?

How old are they now? perhaps after such an illustrious career the magic has finally gone? either that or they can't train as hard as they used to because of their age - or their age has altered the type of game they can play.. unlike the other pensioners near the top (eriksen / lundgaard-hansen) who play a slightly slower but just as effective game..

Candra and Sigit are 31 or 32 this year. They are not as lethal as before....and young attacking pairs (such as Fu/Cai or Jung/Lee) can exploit this weakness.

On the other hand, Eriksen/Lundgaard Hansen and other Denmark players seem to play better as they grow older.

XZB has to play 3 matches a day? Crazy schedule! Why badminton tournaments, like All England, cannot play 7 days for the main draw plus 2 extra days for the qualification round, like tennis    Actually, in tennis grand slam, even the current asustralian open, it lasts 14 days!

Badminton is just so cheap

But Choong/Lee are also getting old... That is why I am disappointed in C/S. Maybe Rexy has taught Choong/Lee some Indo tricks... ;)

E/L are too tall. They can reach anywhere in one step, therefore age does not matter that much. On the other hand, I don't think Paaske/Rasmussen are playing better and better. (Now that pair does not exist anymore)

Actually Choong/Lee are playing better than when they were young. Just that they are alwiz troubled by injuries now.

that is interesting. Which part of the game do you think they have improved and what do you think is the reason?

They are better in cooperation, better in footwork, good defence, more powerful smashes and better attacking game and tactics. When they were young, they have the skills but didn't cooperate that well and played badly when they were panic.

Have not watch them play lately but I think at least now they dont crack easily when they are under pressure.

Geez, that is really amazing, improvement on everything. Does this has anything to do with Rexy's coaching? Or it is just that they grew wiser over the years?

yap ,you are right. more composed now with the exception of all england 2004 final. they played amazingly well during thomas cup 2004.When they were young, they couldn't perform during the thomas cup due to pressure.

they have more experience now. of course the coach has something to do with it too but don't forget, they have improved a lot even before Rexy becomes the coach. Remember 2004? Rexy was not malaysian coach yet at that time.

What the ****'s happened to the live scoring? How long has it been stuck here? One massive upset today already in MD with Chandra/Sigit biting the dust. I predicted earlier that the MS #1 will also be knocked out. We'll see as the day progresses. Wouldn't that make the tournament more exciting?

Well, I guess Rexy's coaching may has some influence. Wiser? Haha.....may be they are more "mature" towards their game.

Furthermore, Tan Fook had problems with Wan Wah when Wan Wah got injured in 2000/2001 or 2002(I cant remember the exact year anymore). So they didn't communicate on the court. But now, according to Kim Hock, both have a good relationship after he and psychologist advised them. I think a good relationship between the double partners is an important factor too.
