newplayer 01-21-2006, 07:13 PM I cannot believe Lin Dan actually beat LCW, what an incredible 3rd set!! I hope he
goes all the way and wins the MS championship!
other 01-21-2006, 07:35 PM LD to beat LHI if he recovers mentally as well as physically
Robertson/Emms to win probably, they are on the up, while zhang/gao are not really improving as much i feel
maylsians to win the MD
coops241180 01-21-2006, 07:37 PM hmm. i was commentating for BF (see the semi final thread) on that match.. watching it live on sky..
dan was walking it.. until he was 8-2 up inthe 2nd game.. then he went to sleep and lee came back at him like a train.. i thought dan would never recover, but at 11-4 down in the 3rd game dan finally got his head back on..
from then on all lee could do was get odd points.. in the same way that was all he could do before when dan was concentrating.
the worrying thing for me is that dan must be totally wiped out.. he's been in 3 of the top 5 longest games of the tournament.. 81. 83 and 97!! he's been on court for something silly like over 6 hours in this tournament alone..
his legs aren't taped up - but his lower back certainly is heavily taped..
LHI by contrast has only had the set that gade took from him yesterday that he has lost.. and he didn't have to work particularly hard to win the two sets.. i think LHI could be surprising us all tomorrow.
WS and WD.. horrible but true.. the biggest yawn on earth :(
MD.. well.. the danes did amazing yesterday, but all credit to the young malay pair for scaring the living daylights out of them, but the danes showed how you managed to stay at the top at 35 years old.. you change your game and exploit ur opponents weaknesses while masking ur own.. once they had the first game the young pair couldn't change in order to make the difference
XD didn't really see this yesterday.. but from what i've heard Nathan and Gail were pretty dominant again Nova and Lilyana - but this is to be expected.. they know each others game and Nathan and Gail have gone from strenght to strength.. i would say for a double pair they're probably in their peak age.. old enough to have experience of the game and young enough to play loads of tournament and matches. but they play their arch nemeses from the olympics and other tournament.. can't remember the head to head.. of late i think it's in Nathan and Gails favour.. and Zhang and Gao haven't been as consistent as they used to be. whereas Nathan and Gail have been in the finals of most and the semi finals of the rest of the tournaments they've entered since nathan came back from injury.. I don't expect, but i would put good money on nathan and gail being the first home pair to defend the all england in 25 years :D
okay.. enough chat from me..
not sure if i'll be able to commentate tomorrow.. hope so.. because if i do i'll be joining the illustrious 1000 club (more than 1000 posts :D ) do i get something kwun?
Coops
nellute 01-21-2006, 07:39 PM I think only LCW and Taufik can match Lin Dan at the moment.
Too bad LCD lost by a thight margin.
LCW has playd an excellent game yesterday. He showed a lot of patience with splendid net play.
nellute 01-21-2006, 07:42 PM I picked Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah to win. The Danes were doing well yesterday, but remember that the opponent was effectively having one serve.
nellute 01-21-2006, 07:45 PM Gail Emms had shown me how important the role of a lady player in the XD. She is superbly fast, her interception at the net is unbelievable. Hope that she can show it again tonite.
eskey 01-21-2006, 08:16 PM Final will start at 12.30 pm local time
Order of play
1. MD
2. XD
3. WS
4. MS
5. WD
jeyel 01-21-2006, 10:03 PM LCW should have beaten Lin Dan, but unfortunately it looked like his stamina ran out. Oh well, hope Lin Dan takes the title then.
kyiyu 01-21-2006, 10:19 PM MS
Lin Dan Vs Lee Hyun Il
Lefty Lin Dan has the edge of consistency over Lefty Lee. So 2nd AE title for Lin Dan.
WS
Zhang Ning Vs Xie Xing Fang
Interesting! Zhang Ning never won before. In terms of skill, I gauge them 50:50. Presuming that a curse of AE on Zhang Ning will go on. So the winner will be XXF.
MD
Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah Vs Jens Eriksen/Martin Lundgaard-Hansen
Love to see Choong/Lee get revenge over Jens/Martin. However remembering several cases of MAS team being best losers in the cricuits, I will go with Jens/Martin for Titile.
WD
Gao Ling/Huang Sui Vs Zhang Jie Wen/Yang Wei
History make me more interesting than the actual game as regular faces and playing styles from both teams in many WD finals. Gao/Huang almost never won over Zhang/Yang except in AE. And they are 5 times champs of AE. So following the history, my prediction will go to Gao/Huang.
MXD
Nathan Robertson/Gail Emms Vs Zhang Jun/Gao Ling
The game that will create the most noise from the crowd for sure. In terms of skill, I rate 50:50. But I will rate 60 (Nathan/Gail) to 40 (Zhang/Gao) in terms of chances as home crowd will push English team to crown for second time.
xavier felipe 01-21-2006, 10:22 PM I'm very happy that all my predictions are correct. Hopefully the winners are also correct. :) jia you Lin Dan and Zhang/Gao
Yannie, since you are from Fujian.
Is true that Lin Dan is a Hakka?
He was born in Shanghang, which is a Hakka county in Fujian?
Hakka culture is a lil bit different with common Fujian.
Thx
:)
BadFan1 01-21-2006, 11:04 PM MS
Lin Dan VS Lee Hyun Il
It all depends on how tired Lin Dan will be in tomorrow's match.
As long as he can recover from previous long matches, he should be the winner.
WS
Zhang Ning VS Xie Xing Fang
Zhang Ning longs for this title for long time, I think this time she should have a fair good chance.
MD
Jens Eriksen/Martin Lundgaard-Hansen VS Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah
Given it is in England and previous records for MAS players, I think Danish team is more likely to win.
WD
Zhang Jie Wen/Yang Wei VS Gao Ling/Huang Sui
Yang Wei/Zhang JieWen should be the winner as usual, as they outpower the other pair, and Gao Ling has just finished the MX double, so the odds is even worse for Gao/Huang. Unless LYB asked, so Gao/Huang will getting even more Champions in All-England, which is quite possible.
MXD
Zhang Jun/Gao Ling VS Nathan Robertson/Gail Emms
It is a tight call, but I think Zhang/Gao, with the performance against Thailand pair, should be able to beat the English pair.
abedeng 01-21-2006, 11:12 PM Gail Emms had shown me how important the role of a lady player in the XD. She is superbly fast, her interception at the net is unbelievable. Hope that she can show it again tonite.
Yeah, she's lightning quick and accurate in the net, I thought only top Asian WD players can do that. Lilyana had to be two steps further from her ideal net position, such is Gail's dominance. If ENG had two of Gail, they'd be among top 5 WD.
Only problem is perhaps her defense is not that strong.
Wai Shing 01-21-2006, 11:22 PM Lin Dan hasnt lost to Lee Hyun Il since German Open 2003, and they've met several times since then (Thomas Cup 2004 semis, AE05, WC05 - the ones i remember w/o checking). Unless LeeHyunIl has drastically improved, I think Lin will grab his second AE title despite his marathon against LCW
abedeng 01-21-2006, 11:22 PM LCW should have beaten Lin Dan, but unfortunately it looked like his stamina ran out. Oh well, hope Lin Dan takes the title then.
Not a stamina issue, both players were ragged. LD cut down on his mistakes and hit purple patch after trailing behind.
LCW had given his all, very sad that he lost after playing his best against CH and LD. Now LD knows that LCW really has the mental capability to match and beat him outside of Malaysia.
Good luck to LD, it would be a crime not to win the title after last night's performance.
abedeng 01-21-2006, 11:29 PM MS
Lin Dan VS Lee Hyun Il
It all depends on how tired Lin Dan will be in tomorrow's match.
As long as he can recover from previous long matches, he should be the winner.
MD
Jens Eriksen/Martin Lundgaard-Hansen VS Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah
Given it is in England and previous records for MAS players, I think Danish team is more likely to win.
MS - no question and no excuses, LD must win! If LCW can do two tough matches back to back, so can he. With all due respect to LHI, he's not in the same league as LD and LCW (even though he beat LCW before).
MD - MAS pair will win, unless Jane Hancock is around or one of them gets injured. Not discounting the great Danes, but the MAS pair is tactically superior, even in that controversial final two years ago. Plus they are not even seeded this time. :D
leontek 01-21-2006, 11:35 PM Won in semi-final he took out his shirt, today he win again sure he take out his pant........
hezudao 01-21-2006, 11:56 PM Good luck to LD, it would be a crime not to win the title after last night's performance.
couldn't agree more. good fight between the 2 and great effort from both players. LCW is a fighter.
Lin Dan jia you!!!!!!
**KZ** 01-22-2006, 12:08 AM MD finals is the repeat of 2003's...but this time I hope the results will be the opposite...m'sia boleh
Anatolii 01-22-2006, 12:31 AM hmm. i was commentating for BF (see the semi final thread) on that match.. watching it live on sky..

Coops:D i was reading some of your commentatings during the MD's match yesterday, and it was enjoyable.. even though we were not siding the same side!
didn't carry on reading however for the MS' match because i chose to watch the SIARAN LANGSUNG, of course! witnessed the impressive and quick first game taken by lin dan, right until the 2nd game when he was still leading 10-8, but had to go to bed (with a heavy and longing heart) after that:(..
i was hoping to listen for the results on the hourly news on radio this morning, but there was none! in the end, i figured out that chong wei must've failed to topple the 'mighty lin dan', or else the radio would've informed us proudly that "it was malaysia Boleh again at the semi-finals of all england, etc. etc."...
peter gade's match against lee hyun il must've been a shock for some of us huh? especially when he lost so tamely to the korean in the two sets following his roaring win of the first!
pauline 01-22-2006, 04:05 AM Choong Tan Fook/ Lee Wan Wah, go!go!go! Go grab the title!
cooler 01-22-2006, 04:20 AM couldn't agree more. good fight between the 2 and great effort from both players. LCW is a fighter.
Lin Dan jia you!!!!!!
i think LD(and LYB) is very desired to win the AE. Given his #1 status, he hasnt won any of the 'big ones' like olympic and WC. Having a AE title at least give him a bragging right over taufik
cxytdn 01-22-2006, 04:28 AM i think LD(and LYB) is very desired to win the AE. Given his #1 status, he hasnt won any of the 'big ones' like olympic and WC. Having a AE title at least give him a bragging right over taufik
Lin Dan became an All England Champion in 2004.
Anatolii 01-22-2006, 04:28 AM couldn't agree more. good fight between the 2 and great effort from both players. LCW is a fighter.
judging from yesterday's match, lin dan proves to be the fighter. even though he was down 6-13 to chong wei, he managed to fight a brave battle to move on to the finals.
Darth Andrianus 01-22-2006, 04:30 AM i think LD(and LYB) is very desired to win the AE. Given his #1 status, he hasnt won any of the 'big ones' like olympic and WC. Having a AE title at least give him a bragging right over taufik
LD doesn't really need to worry about Taufik. The Indonesian is very inconsistent and doesn't really participate in a lot of tournaments to begin with. Now that the WC happens every year, it is only a matter of time that LD becomes World Champion. Olympics is another matter though, still 2 years to go, not sure if LD can stay no. 1 by then. If he can, surely he will win Olympic gold in front of home crowd? Hmmm, come to think about it, I'm very curious as to how Taufik's marriage will affect his performance...

eskey 01-22-2006, 04:56 AM what local time does the first final match starts?

Sammy 01-22-2006, 04:57 AM I picked Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah to win. The Danes were doing well yesterday, but remember that the opponent was effectively having one serve.
Talking about serve.....Why the he** Gan's serves were almost everytime called fault? I dont see anything wrong with his serves? I think the service judge need to change his glasses.
Sammy 01-22-2006, 05:01 AM MS - no question and no excuses, LD must win! If LCW can do two tough matches back to back, so can he. With all due respect to LHI, he's not in the same league as LD and LCW (even though he beat LCW before).

For Ms I will go for Lindan after his outstanding performance over his match vs LCW :crying:
WS: I will still go for my fav Zhang Ning.
MD : CTF and LWW! I hope they will win. Then i will have free dinner. :p But i do really hope they will win. They had a good start this year and i hope this will continue.
WD: Gao Ling and Huang Sui for the title.
MXD : The British pair of course.
coops241180 01-22-2006, 05:53 AM Talking about serve.....Why the he** Gan's serves were almost everytime called fault? I dont see anything wrong with his serves? I think the service judge need to change his glasses.
now now.. please don't say things about people that i personally know. Malc is one of the best service judges in the business.. because he is prepared to tell people when it is a fault.. the replays show that Gan's racquet head wasn't below his hand.. ie.. his racquet wasn't in a downwards pointing direction.

Lin Dan ALREADY has an All England crown (in 2004 or somewhere there).
hcyong 01-22-2006, 06:04 AM Talking about serve.....Why the he** Gan's serves were almost everytime called fault? I dont see anything wrong with his serves? I think the service judge need to change his glasses.
Gan's serves were very marginal, I was surprised he was not faulted more. I think he needs to go back and practise his serve.
Predictions:
Lin Dan - if he can cut down his mistakes, his mistakes let LCW come back yesterday
Choong/Lee - it's about time for them; also bury the ghost
Zhang Ning
Yang/Zhang
Robertson/Emms (MATCH OF THE DAY) - it will be interesting between Gao and Emms

Ouch.
The very opposite of the final two years ago... then it was the Danes doing a remarkable comeback.
This is a tough blow for Jens/Martin. I strongly doubt they have the energy to take the decider. Especially Jens, who's had heart trouble and had problems breathing during the 1st game of the semifinal... The Malaysians, on the other hand, will go back on court with plenty of confidence for the 3rd set.
What a nailbiter!

Its like hot knife cutting through butter. CTF/LWW were no match to the Danes. A lost in concentration caused the Danes the second game. The first and third game were just the like the Danes playing with amature. CTF/LWW had no answer to the Danes smashes and quick drives. Congratulation to the Danes. As usual the Malaysian pair claimed their fav place --> 2nd. The famous finalist loser as some of you said. They were seeded (6th) on the 3rd draw. Seeded or not seeded they were no match and I cant Imagine how they managed to beat the 1st seed Indonesian pair. Actually I was hopping the Indonesian pair to meet the Danes in the final.

Errr....if the long lay off is taken into consideration yes they have improved else I dont see any improvement at all. Tons of unforce errors and they dont have the double's "stinging" smash like most Indonesian pairs have. Rexy must really do something quick with the rest of Malaysian pairs. Bring the "stinging" smashes, trick shots and quick drives techniques to the Malaysian pairs.

too be consistent in getting 2nd place is better than a flash in the pan..... at least it shows that they are alwasy in the final.....not winning a tournament then losing in the 1st/2nd/3rd round for the next few years...you have to give them credit for beating a few top pairs to get into the final.....
overall even though no m'sian pair won, but to have 3 pairs in the semis is an achievement by itself.....this is definitely a very good sign.

mirrura 01-22-2006, 08:31 AM they are having Rexy talking at our RTM1 right now. Can't really catch what he was saying because of his Indonesian accent.
He appologized for the lost of CTF LWW. He mentioned that the Danes were careful enough to avoid LWW from his smashes, forcing LWW to come to the fore court, and then pushed the shuttle to the back, so that it made LWW difficult to attack.
He mentioned something about yesterday's Zakry-Teik Chai's lost, especially when they were at the game point, leading quite a huge margin. There was some controversial calls (did that happen? ) which affected the Malaysian's focus. He said that he, as a player himself understands this kinda feeling as well la. And then he gave lots of motivations for our junior pairs like "If you can create history for yourself, then there will be much more opportunities for you in future" (I guess he was talking about getting selected for other tourneys like TC)
Errmm...this is only a fraction of what I got from him, I hope I interpret correctly. Anyone wanna add something else?

you seem to be changing your location every minute.....all i have to say is unless you know what is happening behind the scenes, don't knock the players who hav given their best.....a lot of players would not be in the same shape as LWW ever since coming back from one injury after another.... if you are truly a msian, then i would suggest that you support them whole heartedly, win or lose....analyse their game but don't knock them.....
there could always be 1001 reasons for them losing......but you can be sure that they have given their best...... :) :) :)

jeyel 01-22-2006, 08:57 AM After watching the MD men's final, I thought: "Same old, same old..." Getting 2nd place seems to be a bad habit for M'sian badminton players. kemana 01-22-2006, 09:36 AM omg, what was Roberson doing. i feel he has given up from that 14-14 of second
set, and the 3rd set he was moving slowly playing heartlessly, it was like emms
was playing alone:confused: maybe he was too tired?
Anatolii 01-22-2006, 09:38 AM a Brilliant Win!!!! omg! I Love Zhang Jun!!!:D Go China! *MMMUAH!!*
Old_African 01-22-2006, 09:38 AM Great match. Incredible victory for Zhang/Gao.
Trance 01-22-2006, 09:38 AM 15-1 to Gao/Zhang. That's.... quite a score...
Anatolii 01-22-2006, 09:41 AM omg, what was Roberson doing. i feel he has given up from that 14-14 of second
set, and the 3rd set he was moving slowly playing heartlessly, it was like emms
was playing alone:confused: maybe he was too tired?no, i think he was too disheartened to play to his full capabilities after the loss of the 2nd game.
Pingo 01-22-2006, 09:42 AM how to find the channel on tvkoo? thanks
cxytdn 01-22-2006, 09:45 AM I think it's most important for Gao Ling/Zhang Jun to come back in the end of 2nd Game.
Lao Liu 01-22-2006, 09:47 AM no, i think he was too disheartened to play to his full capabilities after the loss of the 2nd game.
Just not use to tough games. A rematch of Olympics.
Anatolii 01-22-2006, 09:48 AM I think it's most important for Gao Ling/Zhang Jun to come back in the end of 2nd Game.
definitely! omg.. i was undergoing so much strain inside when service kept changing at 13-14!!
Old_African 01-22-2006, 09:48 AM how to find the channel on tvkoo? thanks
You'd have a heart attack watching TVkoo. It takes annoyingly long time to buffer. You have to wait minutes before you can watch a few seconds of broken pictures.
Anatolii 01-22-2006, 09:49 AM Just not use to tough games. A rematch of Olympics.then again it's no reason not to keep the fighting spirit. he practically walked around the court!

Nathan's always like that. Whenever he has chance, he
will play halfheartedly. Besides it seems his smashes are
getting weaker.
Gail is playing better and better.
Lao Liu 01-22-2006, 09:52 AM In the 2nd game, Zhang/Gao did not score with 8 serves, quite uncharacterisetic for the two most experience double player even though defensvely they are good enough to repeatedly get the serve back at the match point.
Sammy 01-22-2006, 09:53 AM not only in badminton...in every sport.....because of the system and of the culture.....
look at squash....once nicole david become world champion, everyone once a piece of her....but who was actually behind here success?...SRAM?.of coz not...it was here parents.....
unless NSC and the Sports ministry are run by professional people, we will always be number two.....
Bulls eye. Right on spot dude
block306 01-22-2006, 10:01 AM Congrats to Zhang/Gao. Though they won it fair, there is one aspect of this combination (or any Chinese XD combinations) game that I dislike. If you watch carefully, 90% of the man's smash by the Chinese XD is alwys directed to the opposite lady. I mean there is nothing wrong with this but somehow it does not seem that "respectable" to me. This is even more glaring if one watch most the other major XD pairs; they don't do that so obviously.
ponda 01-22-2006, 10:05 AM I guess the record books will only show the winners - not the manner in which they won!!

I am Chinese but I agree with you on this point. I think if possible, Zhang Jun
would make it 100%. Anyway, non-Chinese female players' defence are
usually too weak, far below the level Ra Kyungmin and Rikke Olsen used to
held.

To exploit your opponents' weaknesses and play away from their strengths is the foundation to winning matches. They feel that the lady has less chance of getting smashes back so naturally that's where they aim most of their attacks. The sad fact is that the lady having the weaker defence is almost always true in my eyes with the exception of Nova/Lilyana and very few others.
alloh 01-22-2006, 10:14 AM i cannot believe it...they lost so fast. i wonder what is wrong with them. Each time they get into the finals, they will surely lose.
:D LWW/CTF really "Yi Lai Meng". Always can take the 2nd seat.
3 pairs in the semi-finals, but cannot take the title :(

no offence but isn't that natural ? to beat the weak point of your opponent:)
i think why they don't attack Gao a lot is because she is very good in defence:)
Wong8Egg 01-22-2006, 10:18 AM hey guys, just up from the bed. Are all finals over yet??? Any source on PPlive??
Trance 01-22-2006, 10:20 AM hey guys, just up from the bed. Are all finals over yet??? Any source on PPlive??
Check back a couple of pages and get tvkoo.
So far MD and XD have played. WS is currently on.

now going : ws
coming up: wd,ms(don't know the order)
btv6 is broadcasting try to find it on pplive, good luck:)
TVkoo is several points behind. Any stream on coolstream or pplive? Also, the window on TVkoo is rather small and not expandable. It is sharp though and after being on a while the buffer is finally stable.
other 01-22-2006, 10:24 AM zhang ning jia you get ur AE!!
lol...about the smashing....is Lin Dan bad for picking on LCW's backhand side yesterday? Is it honourable for the guys to smash at zhang jun rather than gao ling as he usually isn't as sharp with his defence ;)

Of course it is not honorable to smash at the weaker player. To be honorable, you must always play to the opponents' strength and give them every possible chance to win -- LOL :D .
That's why the Chinese dominates in Badminton, regardless how bad it looks in semi or how great it looks for the opponents, Chinese will win most of the events in the final. Mental toughness is hard to teach ...
Badmincraze 01-22-2006, 10:31 AM Oh my...... XXF is pulling away with a 5-0 lead in the rubber set!!!
Zhang Ning!!! Go!Go!Go!
Quasimodo 01-22-2006, 10:36 AM ...

Can someone post what BTV6 looks like in Chinese characters, please?
Wong8Egg 01-22-2006, 10:37 AM can't get tvkoo to work on my computer........ anybody has a link for pplive??? I wanna watch :crying:

Well, it's very subjective. However, if LCW has a weak backhand, that is his own fault. If Gail's defence is not as strong as Nathan's, that is not her fault. Here lies the difference between "attacking the weak player" in MD and "attacking the female player" in XD. I myself feel a bit uneasy if I have to attack the girl to win. Anyway I suck big in playing badminton, so my opinion does not matter at all. :D
TVkoo just crashed. Maybe it is because I was opening PPLive simultaneuosly. I am getting it to restart but have to load up the buffer all over again. XXF is leading :D . XXF might be fighting back for number 1 after a short lull after the WC.

Yes, agree. Mental toughness cann't be tought, a stiff (internal) competition may help.

I thought the maximize button was where it was. Is it that hard to spot it?
frosch411 01-22-2006, 10:44 AM hello ..just found about the streaming on TVKoo..I'm still looking for the right channel.could somebody let me know how many users are on the stream..maybe that will help me identify the right one. Counting 19 down I ended with a programm showing two women on a sofa chatting :)
Trance 01-22-2006, 10:44 AM XXF wins again!
kemana 01-22-2006, 10:45 AM Can someone post what BTV6 looks like in Chinese characters, please?
yes , it like "北京体育台" or “北京电视台体育频道”
or"北京六台"
北京 == beijing
体育 == sports
六 == six

well obviously for amateurs having a friendly game we should not target the weaker partner too much, whether it be the guy or the lady in XD. but these guys are professionals so its a totally different game....
i'd assume zhang jun attacked the weaker player, but its not his fault that it was the lady :p plus he relies on his pace, not on his placing so for him, so the ones with better defence are hard to get thru....
segis 01-22-2006, 10:47 AM its 31 people on the channel right now :P
and the steaming is great :D almost no lagg at all for me :)
the only error i get s that the player crash then i have to start TVKoo then it works again :P

As long as every event goes rubber sets then it's still a treat for Malaysian fan, that's the only consolation I can think of right now :crying:

XXF won :) :) . Now XXF needs to get back to be #1 ove ZN.

Maximize button does not work and neither does drag to expand.

It does now -- maybe the first load was not stable and it crashed. :(
