I have been playing a lot lately and my left bicep (i'm left handed) hurts like crazy. It hurts so much that when i serve, my whole arm shakes. My smashes become weak drives because it hurts so much to hit the bird. Has this happened to anyone? If so, please advise me as to what to do to, ice treatment only soothes the pain, but it comes back when i play again. Rest works, and there is no pain the first time i play after a rest period (3-4 days) but after the first time, it will hurt again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Do as kaushik says and see a physio. You need to try to work out exactly what causes the pain. When I had pain in my bicep it was worse when shaping to pplay a low backhand drive and also immediately following fast overhead forehand. I thought is was due to forearm rotation but physio said there was a problem in my shoulder. She said the pain was referred down the arm when my upper arm was at a particular angle relative to my shoulder. The ice may not be working properly because you are putting it in the wrong place. See a physio.

I had similar problem. Honestly, I tried lots of thing from physical therapy, sonogram, massage, rest (no play), weight lifting, taking high protein supplements etc. What really worked for me was weight lifting of dumbbell (5lbs) to strengthen racket arm muscles plus some moderation in exercise and play routine. I believe that first you have to build your muscles strong enough before you launch very ambitious play routine.

hi,
u are absolutely right. ice and similar treatment can only prevent aggravation of the injury.proper treatment involves correcting the muscle imbalances by training the weak muscles.
