View Full Version : My dream has come true

I am a Chinese supporter-12yrs old,I speak Cantonese and know a tiny little bit of Mandarin. My sister, mum and I went to watch the 2006 All England Open Championship in the NIA.
Friday 20th was our first day,quarter-finals day. I was very excited to watch Lin Dan ,Chen Jin and lots more as I haven't watched live badminton since 2005 AE. When ever any players from China were playing, I was shouting China and Lin Dan Jia You as loud as I could. Chen Jin didn't play very well,he was slower and his smashes weren't as powerful as people said it was. Lin Dan wasn't aggresive enough in the first game against Kenneth Jonassen which was 15-10,but then he smached nearly every point and won the second game 15-3.
Saturday 21st,semi-finals day. My family and I were walking to a hotel see my friend Dominic(the person who gave us the live scores) and we saw Lin Dan jogging on the streets to warm up for his match against Lee Chong Wei. So we went to him and took pictures and I asked him to sign a picture which I took with him last year, then for the first time I saw him smiling:) We got inside the hotel and saw players from most of the countries staying in that hotel. My sister,Dominic and I took pictures with Candra Wijaya,Pi Hongyan,Lee Hyun Il,Widiato Natsir,Peter Gade,Zhang Jun,Wei Yili,Zhang Yawen,Xie Xingfang +lots more:D When they started playing I was shouting for China and Lin Dan really loud again. When Lin Dan was losing in the third game against Lee Chong Wei:crying:I shouted even louder so I lost my voice:eek: When he won he took his black t-shirt off and went through to talk to the coaches about the match. So me and one of my friends sprinted as fast as I could into the authorised area even though we don't have a pass:o We went up to Lin Dan,he asked for a signatlure and asked I for his t-shirt,he just gave it to me!!!:) It was the shirt he actually wore,it was very wet which made it heavy. I was so happy that I couldn't go to bed until half-past two in the morning. I thought it couldn't get better,BUT IT DID!!!
Sunday 22nd,finals day. That morning we saw Lin Dan jogging again as we were going to met up with my friend in Jury's Inn,this time he gave me a five:D When we got inside the arena the MD was just about to start a member of the China team came down and told us that one of the coaches has invited me to go and join them on the players' stand:) and that the coach has a son-13yrs old. When she left we thought 'what just happened' When the MD finished I went up the players' stand with the woman who came down and I sat between Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun!!!:) I found out that Li YongBo invited me :eek:I was shocked. The headcoach of the best badminton country wanted me to sit with him:eek: I chatted with some of the players and coaches, they were all very polite and looked after me as well. When they started the XD we were all cheering for Zhang Jun and Gao Ling. It was so nervous when we were watching them because Robertson/Emms had 8-10serves to win the match in the second game. In the third game Zhang/Gao totally trashed the English pair 15-1,Nathan Robetson's body language was absolutely awful:mad: After the XD we all went behind the stand and played games with our hands:confused: Then we didn't watch the WS because it was China vs China.
After that match it was the MS between Lin Dan and Lee Hyun Il. We were cheering for him every point(especially me:D). When he slipped and twisted his knee we were very worried about him because he couln't move, but when he gave Li YongBo a wave meaning he's alrite we weren't as worried:) After he won we all went down to clap when he comes round doing the lap of honour. Li YongBo told me that Lin Dan is going to gave me the racket his used. I was shocked again! LYB was so kind and polite to all the players,he is really funny as well. Then he went to the Doping Room where the doctor had a look at his knee,so I went in with the chinese woman holding a bag of ice for Lin Dan. His knee didn't look nice. I could tell that he was in a lot of pain:crying: Then I got told to get out of the Doping Room because children aren't allowed in. Dominic and I had to wait for about ten minutes before he came out gaving me his racket and saying 'Thank You' to me,then I said 'Xie Xie' then Dominic took a picture of us with his racket in my hands:D That night we went to a chinese resturant called Tin Tin and saw the whole China team!:D I went over there and got Chen Hong,Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun to sign pictures I took with them last year. The players sat on two big tables,Lin Dan and Xie Xingfang were sitting with all the coaches on another table. Then when we were going home I went over to say bye and thank you to LYB,Lin Dan and all the players. They all said thank you and gave a fives! :D I can't believe all of this happened in just three days!!! My dream really has come TRUE:)

you are really lucky, it took me three days to actually had a chance to talk to taufik for like five minuts and took only one pic with him during sudiman cup 2005, i found it very hard to find Indo players outside the stadium, and in the stadium the guards kept getting you away from them..... maybe they are a little shy?

As long as you remain the best, no reason they should kick you out! :D
About not playing abroad, it is normal, you are young.
You must be patient and improve at training, you will get to play lots of tournaments abroad when you grow older...

Hi Baderz_Jas
I saw you when LD was giving you the shirt.
As perfectly described in your post, he was sitting on the floor behind the stand where players where interviewed by journalists. LD was in conversation with LYB when two boys approached and asked him. Then I saw LD giving you the shirt and I remember you looking surprised and happy.
I was observing this from the sits quite high above you and I remember the thought I had then:
how lucky this young man must feel, he was given a shirt after such a tremendous and memorable match
now you have a big question to answer (or maybe your Mama already took care about this):
to wash or not to wash

That's a wonderful story, unfolding layer upon layer, and getting better and better. Things like these are normally what dreams are made of but to have it really happen... wow! Congratulations. You must have felt completely out of this world. Think about it, your vocal support for China was so strong it even made an impression on LYB. Treasure the whole experience for the rest of your life and use it as inspiration to reach for your badminton goals (and even non badminton ones). And always remember, when you become famous ( :D ), how you were treated by all these wonderful badminton players and behave accordingly to others. I'm sure your parents must be very proud of you. Lyb is a really nice person, always smiles and he was laughing with the players all the time at the restaurant. My mum thank him for inviting me and he smiled and said 'mai guanxi, mai guanxi'. I'm a really big fan and have you spoken to her? I hope you will meet these players more often and i hope you will have a successful career for England. They would do good to have your service :):):)
Zhang Yawen is very cute, always smiling and very kind to me when I was sitting with them. Her voice is very soft and I like her too. My mum likes her too. If I receive their address I will visit them in Beijing this summer.

Wow, just wow! Yours is a most heartwarming and encouraging story. I am extremely happy for ya. What an experience to treasure for the rest of your life. Nice to hear the behind the scene stories and as a chinese supporter myself, thank you for your vocal support to the players. I'm most envious that u could be so closed to the players, coaches and the rest of the team. of course, it helps if one is a cute young boy.:D
lin dan is also my fav player, although I'm liking chen jin nowadays too. pray tell, did u interact much with chen jin?

yea it's me. everytime I shouted LIn Dan jia you, she said Lin Dan Shut Up
and my mum said she's very rude to do that
I could hear you too over in Block 4, you really gave it everything! Who knows, you may inspired LD's comeback!
I think you were wearing a yellow t-shirt weren't you or was that the person next to you? I wish we'd had someone like you on our side during the XD finals, you might have been able to get Nathan Robertson to actually make the effort.
By the way, I think your mum was right, it was very rude of the woman in front of you to say that. Maybe she was more used to going to a quiet game like snooker than badminton!

did you get a chance to talk to LiYB's son?
this is really cool. Li Yongbo normally give ppl the impression that he is cold, strict and unapproachable. but after reading your experience, i must say that i have a much better impression of him now.
I'm always of the impression that most people are quite different when they are on the competitive arena, facing the media, and being a team leader as compared to when they are with close ones and friends in private. So I never thought of LYB as an unfriendly person, because in truth, i really don't know his real personality and his private life. some of the rumors about LYB are probably arose from jealous resentment or simply misunderstood. i usually tend to ignore them.

i find badminton stars really friendly especially overseas, i think its partly due to the lack of publicity they get, and tht might be y LYB invited u to the chinese stand coz they really do appreciate fans
i remember once where i met sairul and ong ewe hock in new zealand and my mum went over and talk to them and asked for a sig and when they returned a year later for the 1* new zealand open sairul actually recognises my mum and waved to her(b4 she even said hi or waved to him)...dnt think u'll get tht with federer or sharapova

My dream really has come TRUE:)

grip is a personal thing.
some like it big, small, foam, leather, towel, or combination of them.
if u want to know, my reason why is for accuracy

That whole story is nothing short of astonishing!!! I smiled my face off all the way through reading it! I am so overly impressed and loved the photographs.
And let me tell you, even at 26 years of age I am so jealous! Peter Gade is my hero in badminton and I am so glad that you got to meet him.
Wow,

Hey Baderz_Jas,
This is a great story, your so lucky, I went to round 3 of the AE on the Thursday, it was my first time of going to see a professional badminton match, it was awesome!
I can't belive how lucky you are I would have given anything to meet the players (especially Lin Dan.)...AND you got his top and racket...I'm so jelous :crying:.
Would there be any chance you could post the Yonex product code of that Black T Shirt Lin Dan gave you as I want to buy one A.S.A.P, but I don't know if they are available in the UK, do you know of anywhere I could get hold of 1? (I'm asking you as I saw you on TV a few times and you had a cool Yonex top on every time!)
Any help would be greatly appriciated! (And perhaps you could help me to meet the players next year :D lol)
Thanks

Hi Jay
There isn't any code number on the shirt, its the one Lin Dan wore in semi-final with pink lines. I doubt you can buy this in UK, my mum buy all these Yonex shirts from someone in HK. Will pm you his email address.

I also saw you on TV after LD's epic semi final victory.....He showed such grit n determination in contrast to Robertson in the mixed. as we say "he threw the rattle out the pram"..felt really bad for Emms tho she must have been sick..Loved your pictures, all the players seemed really nice. One question for you...what racquet did LD use in the final.. Your story is one that shows how true champions should behave...giving time to other & encouraging. Our sport needs characters like LD, Gade & the rest of them. I was cheering on Zhang during the mixed final even although I was surrounded by English fans,,,they took it well tho..PS...wash the shirt hang it on the wall & use it as inspiration of what might be.. Final word on LD...he is a true genius but who will follow him as world no 1 that is a big question.

when you go over to visit them in the summer, will you be training with them? this could be such a great chance for you, not only will there be the best coaches and players in the world there to help you but i would think that some yonex people would be dotted around. when i say it could be a great chance i mean you may be able to work out some sort of sponsership deal;)

how young can you be sponsored at?
i know a couple of players who are U14 and are sponsered, i don't think it really matters how old you are but i would think noone in age groups below U13 would be sponsered. it would also help if you give the company a good proposition and are of a good standard. team sponserships could be any age. these contracts normally occur a fee though.
if you play in a national team at AE it you will probably have more than one contract and won't pay a thing for it.

Hi magical phoenix
Everyone in the China team is very friendly and polite, even the coaches.:) I talked to Fu Haifeng the most coz he speaks Cantonese. So do Yang Wei and Zhang Jiewen but I didn't see them much. Fu Haifeng translated all the time for me.:D I didn't talk to Ng Wei, only took picture with him at the hotel and then he left. When we were behind the players' stand, I played badminton with LYB's son(forgot his name as well:( ),I used Zhang Jiewen's racket(AT800De). Gao Ling and Chen Hong sat together and chatted for quite a while. That is as much I could remember.

I will never use it! It is very tight, I guess it is 34-36lbs. There's not much different to my AT700s. But on his racket, there's only two knots. Mine have four. Don't know why?

he just uses a one piece stringing pattern, yours will be a two piece if it has 4 knots. the recommended yonex pattern is 2 piece (4 knots)

Baderz_Jas
Are you sure? I'm very surprised to learn that Lin Dan uses Yonex BG65 TI.
Other than being very durable, I didn't think this string was as good as, say, BG80/85 for power or control, and certainly the TI coating doesn't help with control since it's quite slippy.
Maybe that's why his netshots are not as good as the rest of his game :p

Just like what Baderz_Jas said, "jia you"'s direct translation is "add oil."
My guess is that it came from "step on the gas." Anyone has any idea how the phrase "jia you" came to be? I am curious about its origin.

Hi..
I heard that you shouted in the television, it was very cool:cool:.
Post some pictures, please....
Locky You!!!!
WW

No problem:p
I'm 147cm, I have no problem with the tension, I used AT800 OF with 24lbs before but I seem to have more power with AT700 28lbs. Of course it takes about a week to get use to it. (I train 4/5 times a week):D

Hehehe, I believe Zhang Yawen does speak some English. I know she has aspirations to come to the US for schooling. She has my dad's business card, and seemed really excited when she got it. Haha! :p

i saw he had a couple of at700's without strings in his bag on court, what is the point in that. if he has lots of others then why does he need unstrung rackets with him???

Yea... very lucky nice 1. Its annoying sometimes if you ask for an autograph or you see someone else asking and they ignore you/them. Its nice to see that for a few days these players have completely reverted.
If any of you reading this post go international in the future make sure you sign stuff! :)

Hi, where did you download the match? I really want to see some badminton matches since in US they don't really have them on TV.
Thanks
I just downloaded the match between Xie/Zhang and Robertson/Emms and watching it now, hehe :D...I think I heard you shouting "Zhong Guo Dui, Jia You! Zhong Guo Dui, Jia You!"
It sounded clear, loud, boyish, and rather hoarse. even the commentator mentioned about you, saying the boy who shouted "Lin Dan, jia you!" is now shouting "Zhong Guo Dui, Jia You!":)
so adorable...

Hi, where did you download the match? I really want to see some badminton matches since in US they don't really have them on TV.

We use P2P softwares such as eMule, BitTorrent (BT) to download all those matches. BT has faster dowloading rate but shorter downloading period, which means you couldn't get 1kb from it after it grew un-popular which often takes within a month after the release of the seed(downloading address). I use eMule, caus no matter how long it takes, it always going to be finished. It took me 2 weeks to download about 6 matches, including new and old. Chinese Master 2006 - Olympic 1996. So hope you enjoy it! =P
