View Full Version : Fast matches in 21 scoring system!
alloh 02-16-2006, 05:49 AM What a fast games & Matches with this 21 scoring system in the Asian TC & UC qualification round. The fastest game only took 13 minutes (LCW vs Ali Wajid). The others also only took around 20 minutes to complete the matches.
To complete 5 events (3S + 2D) only took 1 hours ++ :(
I really can't imagine that in TC & UC which we usually watch it for about 5 hours became 1 hours ++. :(
 This 21 scoring system made badminton became not exciting sport anymore !!!!
** Hope those stupid IBF ppl can re-consider again the stupid 21 scoring system!!!**
I think the best scoring should be 11 x 3 for Singles match (with service / Men or Women) and 15 x 3 for Doubles match (with service / Men or women)

I absolutely agree! If IBF wants quick matches, why not just play 5-points rally scoting system or even lower? This is ridiculous! Length-wise, I think the old rate of about 40 minutes per game is just about right. I can see this is going to be a serious disaster...
alloh 02-16-2006, 07:43 AM The fastest match in UC qualification is between FIRDASARI Adriyanti (Indonesia) vs SULTANI Nakisa (Iran) with 21-7 ; 21-4 in 7 minutes :D :D :D
Hahahahaha ..................... the fastest match in Badminton history I think.
Really not exciting anymore this badminton sport. :(
Chire 02-16-2006, 08:15 AM the fastest is 6 minutes... but anyway, that sucks bad. Why does the length need to be shortened anyway

Yeah, the fastest is 6 minutes, Ra Kyung Min, when she still playing in singles, against Julia Mann of England if I'm not mistaken, in uber cup (1994?)... Surprisingly, the score wasn't 11-0, 11-0...
qwertyu 02-16-2006, 09:50 AM The old format is still better, 15 X 3, break in mid-set if need to, but please do not kill the art of badminton. Football does not have short segments, but it is still so popular. Why need to blame on the format for badminton's failure to attract audience? Which sport in this world keeps changing its format besides badminton? Come on, stay what it was, that's badminton.
demolidor 02-16-2006, 04:22 PM There's only one reason all the matches are short and that's because all of them are mismatches. People were complaining the new scoring would unnecessarlily prolong these kinds of matches and now that they are over in no time it's still no good :D
The true test of 21-point system is on Uber/Thomas Cup Final round as teams are more balance. To be fair to IBF, we should have our judgement after that.

I agree,
Common, any game between LCW and Ali Wajid is going to be one sided weather it last 5 mins or 5 hours, unless there is injury or something seriously wrong there is no doubt of the outcome.
This is not a good example to choose to complaing about the new points system.
snowflake 02-16-2006, 08:08 PM I still prefer the 15 system scoring, no matter how IBF changed the scoring system, the 21 or 11 system is such a failure!
alloh 02-16-2006, 08:12 PM No, I take the overall matches. Most of the matches finish in around 20 mins.
I think if make the point to 25 is more reasonable.
taufik-ist 02-17-2006, 02:51 AM 21 scoring system will be interesting if the format game is the best of five

I agree. I know this is pretty random, but to attempt to propose the right scoring format for badminton, I shall compare badminton with the one sport with the rally scoring system which has endured for a while - tennis! (sorry guys, this was just the first sport that came to mind)
Assuming no tie-break, a player needs to win four rallies per game, six games per set and three sets to win the whole match. This adds up to 72 rallies per match! Assuming that we want the same thing for badminton, this means that if we wish for a rally scoring system with 21 points per game, the whole match should really be best-of-five to be about right. :)
jeyel 02-21-2006, 07:53 AM Howabout 11 point game, best of 3, points won on service, but there's a short break at the 5th point for commercial breaks (like tennis).

Yes. I think this would be better than 21 points.

a brilliant idea.... :)... that will be interesting too, there will be no a miracle in rally point if a player loses many points behind (19:1 no miracle ?, but 14:1 miracle may happen in old scoring system)
