Incidentally, this is also the European Team Championships.
The group stages for the Uber Cup qualifying campagin is completed.
Here's the draw for the quarter-final phase
England (bye) -- proceed to semi-final
Denmark vs France
-- with only Pi Hongyan to rely upon, I think Denmark will beat France...with 2 points from its usually reliable doubles.
Netherlands vs Scotland
-- no problem for Netherlands with Mia Audina playing in both singles and doubles.
Sweden vs Germany
-- no problem for Germany too.
Draw for Semi-Final:
England vs Denmark or France
-- the doubles matches between England and Denmark should be pretty interesting to watch. England to win the tie.
Netherlands or Scotland vs Sweden or Germany
-- Netherlands vs Germany will be an interesting tie as well. Yao Jie, Mia Audina and Judith Meulendijks will be facing Xu Huaiwen, Jualiane Schenk, and Petra Overzier in the singles. Netherlands has a slight edge.
Eventual qualifier: England, Netherlands, Denmark

vr 17-2-2006 16:00 Netherlands - Austria (NL)

Why (only) three?
Europe will only be represented by 3 qualifiers (the 2 teams which advance to the final + winner of the play-of for 3rd and 4th place).

Poland vs Germany is currently tied at 2-2...with the final tie (2nd doubles) still undecided at the moment.
Semi-Final draw:

Because Petra from germany also play second WD. (if i am not wrong :D )
So another record been made. Indonesia and Denmark ladies for the first times for a very very long times probably more than 40 years, this nations didn't even qualified to the final Uber Cup .
I am sure Camilla Martin and Susy Susanti can't have a good sleep over this bad results ever.
For Denmark Uber team, they didn't had any good player to got points like Camilla or Rikke Olsen . For Indonesia team, we have lots of talents but PBSI officials are too money oriented so our ladies players rarely sent to big events.

Because Petra from germany also play second WD. (if i am not wrong :D ) But you are wrong :p Petra is the singles player, her sister is the doubles specialist. But the 2nd double was Grether/Schenk (1st was Pitriowski/Xu) so that's not it. I find it strange because the final was 3 singles first before england's best part, the doubles which I'm sure they would've won both, even got a chance. Not that I'm complaining ofcourse  :)

Looking at Germany's lineup (with Xu, Schenk and Overzier), they were definitely favourites over Denmark. I also think Netherlands, England and Germany will be good competitors in the Finals.
For the Thomas Cup, predictably Denmark, Germany and England made it to the Finals, but I think only Denmark can hope to make a mark there.

The normal order in T/U cup is :
First single
First double
Second single
Second double
Third single
However, when players play both in singles and doubles, this order can be changed so that they don't play two consecutive matches.
In this case, Xu/Piotrowski were WD2, with Xu also WS1.
Grether/Schenk were WD1 with Schenk also WS2.
This is why they pushed back WD1 and followed this order : WS1, WS2, WD2, WS3, WD1

Yes ofcourse :) Should've noticed that ... hmm you can even use it as a strategy if you are sure you will win all three singles ;)
