Hi Guys, I play regularly at Armadale (southwest corner of Denison and McCowan). Lately, I'm having a hard time finding some good competition on Monday nights 8:00pm - 10:00pm. Mondays are great because it's never full and the court is all yours. So, for all the good players around the block, I'm calling you out!:D

I finally got to play a really good player tonight. I wish more of you guys would come Monday nights. ibm88 showed up tonight and wow he was good. We played 3 games and he won the final 2 rather easily. My hats off to him, he was a good player and I lost fair and square. He eve taught me a few things on backhands after the game. Much appreciated imb88!

There's a few okay players. In mens doubles, depending on your level I think you'll be entertained. In singles, ibm88 who beat me last night happens to be a badminton coach downtown. It was his first time here and he's already committed for next week. You should come by, the environment at Armadale is great. Good lighting, high ceiling, decent hardwood flooring. I encourage all competing players to drop by. Armadale is also open for drop-in's on Thursday (8-10pm), and Sundays (9-11pm). However, Monday's the only day where the courts are not too busy so singles are allowed.

Most of the people there use plastic but you're welcome to bring feather if you want to use feather. Thursday is their busiest day so you'll be 12 minutes on and 12 minutes off.

I won't be there tonight. My legs are totally exausted. I played Wednesday night at Brother Andre (Catholic school), and I played Wong8Egg today at noon. We had a great time today. We're looking for a couple more good players to join us next time. Maybe we would arrange something here and then all get together.

txtmodluke, did you show up? I showed up even with a bad leg because there were some good players that showed up (got a call from a guy who works there). The place was packed so we were only able to play doubles but we had a great time.

Armadale Hours:
Sunday 9pm - 11pm
Monday 8pm - 10pm

i was able to play last night (sunday 9-11pm) and i found the place nice. though i think that the setting of the court is not standard..(ie height of the net, court lane). i have a great time playing because people are nice and friendly. my eyes just felt tired since we just used plastic shuttlecocks instead of feathers ;(

i'll be playing tonight at 8-10pm. how may i know you in court just in case you'll play tonight??how will i approch the people from this thread?? i think the best way that we could see each other is just to place our things at the bottom of the scoreboard just across the middle of the court.

Oh yeah! that was me! i was playing with chris and the other 2 guys at court # 1. As far as my observation, you are a great player! smashes and drops are very good! But for me, i did not enjoyed much since i am using my brothers racquet (heavy!) and a plastic shuttle cock =(

Hey, hey... I am thinking about coming to play with you guys once in a while, but I got a couple of questions :). Well, actually it's one question: do you guys think there will be a game for me if I were to come.

Here's why I'm asking this:
1) I'm 19 (not sure how old are you guys that regularly meet)
2) I'm beginner->intermedate (I can play ok)
3) I played with my high-school last year, so I play mostly doubles (but I'll be likely coming alone). Also, I've only played a few times since last August :). I used to occasionally play singles for fun (during practices, when there were free courts), but I'm pretty bad.

So, do you guys think you'll play double's games that I could join. Lol, if not just say so, not hard feelings :).

ib, you're welcome to join us! There are many level of players at Armadale so I'm sure you'll be able to find a group that you're comfortable to be around. Only thing I've noticed lately is that it's getting much busier and the courts are always packed (even on Mondays). You'll need to come earlier to line up or you won't get to play. Mon/Thurday 8-10, Sunday 9-11.

From the couple of times I've played at Armadale, I don't remember seeing any good players playing there. It seems like a nice and friendly place to play recreationally. But if you're looking for a competitive and serious game, I don't think this is the place for it.

thought i did mesg u to pm us before hand to see if we'r all gonna be there or not cos Armadale is merely a drop in place. And Nuclear made that "looking for challenge" remark a while back..
which yah he found us.. and we r starting to have alternatives choices of place to play thats why i mesged u and say pm us first then maybe we can setup something.. LolAlan's place got a kick ass court as well and we've be liking there a lot.

Sorry guys, didn't show up. Reason being that it's getting too packed at Armadale lately. Even packed on Mondays. As for competition, we kinda picked all the good players and formed a private club. not sure if you guys ever go on sundays but everytime i've gone i don't see any high calibre players. For a recreational club its fun, but quite a bit of trash talking there for no one that can back it up from what i've seen or played. Maybe you guys should start playing some provincial or national tournies seeing the calibre of players and remarks i'm hearing.

lol.. hold it rite there, don't think we ever did mention we'r any uber hardcore players..we just happen have bump into each other thats close in terms of skill lvl and bottom line is we'r having major fun together so far. IF we r anywhere near Provincial and Nationals levels.. wouldn't i have a place to train 5 times a week already and who gives a damn to a drop in place like Armadale.
Maybe someday we'll run into each other and hopefully u would find us challenging enough to put up a fight.
Seriously if u r that desperate for a tuff challenge, you should look elsewere into some more developed club like leesmandarinGbrown, i'm sure u can find high end games there. Armadale is a drop in place for fun badminton.. so don't come back sayin u didn't see any good players there.
** besides, that place is getting packed and i myself haven't been there for a while already ** as mentioned earlier PM us if u wanna meet up, i'm sure something can be arranged, thats exactly how i get to meet these few other BCer in the first place.

No where in any of the posts did anyone say that "we're provincial or national players calibur". I started this tread to call our "friendly" competition and I'm so glad I did so. In the past couple of months I've found a handful of guys who love this sport as much as I do. We've had so much fun on the court and much more to talk about when we're off the courts. If you're looking for friendly competition COME. If you're looking for trash talking buddies please do me a favor, don't pack the place any more than it already is.

sorry no offence..its just at the beginning of this forum...Nuclear was complaining about wantin a challange..i toook the time out of studyin...to come and give him tht challange...but unfortunately..i was discouraged:(...anywayz...its a nice place to play..but TOO many ppl..hate the feelin of havin to switch on and off

CC, you must by a crazy chinaman to write this junk. Ok here we go. March 8th, you said you'd come by on the 13th. On the 13th, you hurt your foot so you can't come. On the 15th you said you'll come NEXT monday. Guess what, you didn't make it AGAIN because you were at Kingston and can't get back in time. Did you show on April 6th, April 9th? Finally you show up on April 10th (Monday) and complain about no competition. If you had read my post earlier on April 7th you'll know why we didn't show up "IT'S PACKED ON MONDAYS NOW!". It's not our fault you didn't show up all this time.... Do you know how many times the other fellow members are asking "hey, where's Crazychinaman...could that guy there by Crazychinaman......Did Crazychinaman show up today?.." If there's anyone that's discouraged, it's us guys who's been waiting for you all this time.

yea i understand...we waited for you several times before but you couldn't make it. Anyway it would have been better for your i'm sure if we showed up. I can completely understand if you felt there were too many people or if the level is generally low there.

CC, lets forget about all the other things that went wrong....The whole purpose of this thread was for us all to get together and have some good old badminton fun. So far we've found a small group of guys and we're having a great time getting together. We're watching badminton video's together, talking about techniques, trying out new things on the court etc..... How about you pm me to let me know how your schedule is like and we'll all meet up next time and have a fresh start.

i'm not sure if you guys read my post but in no sense am i trash talking. i am aware of that armadale is a recreational facility and so i go there for that very same reason. if i didn't enjoy going there i wouldn't. also i think u should read my post carefully and don't jump the gun. I assume if you call yourself high calibre and i quote "high calibur and you're welcome to join us for a match..." then would that not mean your playing tournaments and so forth. anyways, i'm not here to trash anyone as most of the guys there seem pretty cool, but maybe you should broaden your badminton scope and your attitude on court. so far the response i'm getting is that its arrogant for me to say this, but are you not in the same boat as me, i quote again "Couldn't find any REAL competition..." if then it is a recreational facility i don't see how i could be the one trash talking. maybe you should take a step back.

Shosan88, I think you've miss quoted me. I did NOT in anyway call MYSELF high calibur like you've quoted. Read the lines carefully before you quote. It was lolAlan's words asking for high calibur players to come join us. And I don't see anything wrong with that either. Nothing cocky about that... How you even come close to thinking that we are tournament players just beats me. If we were tournament players like YOU ARE we wouldn't be playing at Armadale would we? We'd be training at Mandarin, no? I'm sure I'll broaden my badminton scope but I have no attitude problem on the court whatsoever. My attitude is actually somwhat "good" for that matter. I ask for better players to teach me what I need to know, and I help out the beginner when they need to know some of the basics. I'm pretty sure I've made only friends and no enemies on court so my attitude on court must be "good". If you think I'm arrogant by calling out REAL competition in my first post I think you've lacked a sense of humour. I was merely being sarcastic to get peoples attention with the post. And my strategy worked out great. Within two weeks I found guys that could teach me more than I could learn by this point. I think you need to loosen up a little...

i have a good feeling that this BC meet up thing is gonna expand from 4-5ppl to bigger very soon, probaly somewhere other then Armadale as that place is just packed. Seriously I found myself rather stucked at a point where if u can't afford the cost at those very few advanced club, or if u'r simply not devoted enough to join and play 24/7. Yet u'r decent enough and find recreational badminton not as satisfying. I'm happy to see this post actually did hooked me up with a few baddy addicts, probaly more to come.

Hey guys...

I went to Armdale this Monday (Apr10), and had a fairly good time. The ppl were fairly friendly. I even got to borrow birdies (dang, I forgot mine @ home and realized there) without a problem. I have to agree with most posts here that Armdale was pretty packed, so we had to switch every 12 mins. Also, the competition level isn't too high -- even though the last game I played was with 2 guys @ approx. my level, and another excellent player who dominated the game :) (If some of the ppl I played with are reading, this was pretty much the last game played on the courts).

I'll be in Toronto till end of April (school starts after), so if you guys are meeting elsewhere (hopefully a bit closer to Toronto than Armdale :)) I'd like to join you for a game or two.

I went last night (Sunday) and noticed that there was at least eight guys who knew what they were doing (mainly on courts #1 & #6). There were actually a couple of girls that were pretty good too. Most of these people seem to know each other so I guess they must have all played at a club with each other before. Shosan88, when are you going to be there next time? Maybe we could get together for a game of doubles.....

Well I went tonight and I gotta agree with CrazyChinaman. The level there is around beginner to Ontario D's.

Good thing my friends were at least decent(meaning they can do full court clears). I did notice two old indians pretty good for there age though.

Anyone went?

I've been to George Brown alot of times and the only reason i don't want to go is because of the expensive guest fee. That's why I'd rather pay $2 extra to play all day at Mandarin than to go there.
Oh well, guess I'm still on my journey finding a good cheap club....lol
I agree that the guest fee maybe pretty pricey for the occasional visitor, but if you become a member (6 month membership - cheaper price of course) it is definately worth it ~$25/month with 3 sessions a week.

And for people living and working around the downtown area it's probably the most convenient place to play given the level of competition.

If you stop by GB sometime make sure you say hello. I'm the chinese guy wearing a headband and oakley eye goggles.

which is not exactly 10 bucks nemore..
last time i went its 12 something dollar for a day guest and u get to play
as long as there are no classes taking up all the courts
On paper u do need a member to sign u in as guest but last couple times i went and they arn't too straight about that
