Well im just looking for some clarification on the new rules that came along with the new scoring system.

One of the local coaches here has told me that you can now be coached from the sideline at anytime of the match provided the player does not leave the court area.

For example you walk near to the back of the court, where your coach can now shout out things to you such as "attack the backhand" etc

now is this true? anyone know where to look up the applicable laws??

This is true. I think I first read about it at the official IBF website and there was this article named 'I'll remember...the world championships'. The article noted that from then on, coaches can coach from the sidelines while previously the umpire has to assign two more judges who will sit by the coaches and make sure that the coaches don't communicate with their players. I'm sure the officla rules and guidelines are somewhere on the website but at least now I know it must happened sometime around WC05.

You can't be coached while the shuttle is in play.

Coaching is allowed (from designated COACH chairs at the back of the court), but only when it doesnt interupt play (ie long disscussions) and when the shuttle in NOT in play.....
