Hi

Will be in Singapore next week, does anybody have any recommendations as to places where I can get Yonex NANO 8000 and Muscle Power 100 racquets as well as Yonex or Nike Court shoes at reasonable prices . Apparently its quite hard to find the latest SHB range !

Thanks :)

If you stay in the city centre, the best place to get your stuff is at Bras Basah Complex, which is just next to the Central Library and opposite the Raffles Hotel. You could go either to the shop on the ground floor (called 10 & 10) or the other one on the 3rd (??) floor called Ranking Sports. If you buy more stuff, you could ask for a bargain. Happy shopping!

Hey thanks for the tip .. the place you mentioned isn't too far away from the Peninsula Hotel on Coleman St where I am staying. Do you know if Qqueensway is worth a look ? The Sportslink superstore at Ang Mo Kio seems to have great deals on shoes !

About 500m away. Ask around. I'm sure u will not find it hard to locate Bras Basah Complex from Peninsula Hotel. Sportslink? Take a look and let me know if you find anything worth buying :-)

from penisula plaza, you just have walk down in the direction of the raffles city shopping centre. from there walk another two blocks down and you would see bras basah complex. it is opposite of raffles hotel.

penisula plaza also has some sports shop on the 2nd and 3rd level.

Hey utopia

Thanks for that .. do you think its expensive being city rather than in the suburbs for racquets ?

sembawang and toa payoh have the cheapest racquets and service i think.
Sembawang shopping centre, 4th flr, Artic.
Toa Payoh sports hall, Classic.
U can try sembawang, it has the best or cheapest deals and good service (:

Toa Payoh sports hall, Classic.

Correction: Classic Sports is located at Safra Toa Payoh, next to Toa Payoh Sports Hall/Stadium.

Hmm....u can try checking this thread for the most info and the best deals u want about buying rackets. :p http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15401

However, as agreed with w0shic0w, Classic Sports at Toa Payoh Safra and Artric Pacific Sports at Sembawang shopping centre offers the lowest prices for genuine yonex rackets here in spore and also excellent services. Mp100 should be around S$170 and NS8000 around S$240+...inclusive of grip and stringing of your choice of string and maybe a yonex bag. :p

As u are a tourist over here, i will help u and elaborate once again on how to get to this 2 places.
1) Classic Sports at Toa Payoh Safra--Alight at Toa Payoh MRT station, go up the escalator to the bus interchange...take Bus 8, 26, 31 or 90. Alight at the "2nd bus stop" after your bus left the interchange. (maybe u can ask the bus driver to ask u to alight when it reaches Toa payoh Safra :p ) After alighting, cross over the road to the opposite side, u will clearly see this light blue/white building there, beside the stadium. :D AS u walk towards the main building, enter the glass door on the first building lobby on your right. Dats the one!!!!

2) Artric Pacific Sports at Sembawang Shopping Centre is easier to go....alight at Sembawang MRT station. After u cross the gate barrier (after tapping the Ezlink card on the sensor), immediately turn left and walk past the public toilets. Walk to the end of the station, u will see this signboard saying "FREE shuttle bus to sembawang shoppin centre" or if there's a queue, just join in. :p This yellow/green colour bus will take u TO and FRO the shopping centre and the MRT station. Go up to the top most floor of the shopping centre...and u will see the shop. :D

Hope u enjoy yr stay in singapore and pick up some really good deals. :D

Aiyo (sigh)......how can ask a tourist to go look for these ulu (remote) places? Just Bras Basah would do. MP100 also about S$170 with BG66 and grip. Just 2 cents' comment.

Ahem excuse me, Toa Payoh is not a ulu place... Surge, netasia and myself stay in this area. Do you know the Singapore Tourism Board encourages tourists to visit Toa Payoh? :D

To further Slacker's direction to TP SAFRA, this is taken from their website http://www.safra.sg/facilities/TP_Map_21_04_05.doc Hope it will be useful to you.

Though I dont frequently buy badminton products, when I do, I usually goes to Classic. It is nearer to my place and the owner is friendly. You can talk to him about badminton related subjects and he usually has lots to talk about.

Slacker, thank you for being so helpful to our NZ friend. And the rest of our Singaporean friends here too, Sealman included! :)

For Artric and Classic Sports, it is advisable to call ahead to check if they have stock as they are smaller outfits and bring in less stock. Eg: I called Classic yesterday they said NS9000 no stock, don't know when the next shipment.

If you have a specfic request eg: 2U / 3U G4 / G5, your best chance is usually Bras Besah, because shops like Ranking and 10n10 bring in large quantities of racquets per shipment. Eg: one shipment they can bring in up to 20 racquets per model - i've seen 20 MP88s in a box ;)

Just my $0.02. However, my next racquet should be from Classic since Toa Payoh is not ulu to me... if they eventually get stock of ns9000....

Hi Storkbill

Thanks for your comments, have already been to Singapore in March, ended up getting shoes and bags from 10 and 10 sports in Bras Basah and got grips, strings, bag at Artric Pacific Sports at Sembawang Shopping Centre. I spoke to both owners and they were really friendly .. more so K-H at Artic, he's definitely knowledgeable and knows what he was talking about. At the time he had the Nano 9000 but he pointed out the imperfections in the build quality - for some reason the gold paint and grommet holes weren't up to the usual yonex standards ! I think K-H also owns the store at Toa Payoh!

Hi Slacker

Sorry I haven't got back to you till now, but hey thanks a lot for the directions! .. I ended going up to Artric Pacific Sports at Sembawang Shopping Centre and had a really good discussion with the owner K-H and gave me really good deals !! will worth the ride up north there and a chance to see past Orchard Rd! There was a good store called Chau Beng Departmental Store at Queensway shopping centre, I didn't buy anything there but a friend who went to Singapore after me got a really good deal on 4 racquets !

Hi veebee wong, glad u managed to find your way in Spore... ya.... Artric Pacific is easier to go to as got the free shuttle bus just below the MRT station fetching u to and fro the shopping ctr. :D Mr Lim (Artric's Boss) is a very nice friendly guy, also always end up chatting with him whenever i went to his shop..... and the prices are real competitive too. :p :p :p

Anyway, happy that u enjoyed your stay here in Spore and got some really good deals of baddy equipments. :D
