View Full Version : Adelina's first write up on IBF site
Winex West Can 03-19-2006, 02:58 PM Don't really know where to post this but ... here it is...
Congratulations to our own Adelina76 who has her first write up on her coverage of badminton for the current Commonwealth Games published on the IBF website.

Actually Fend, I only do the articles, not the photos. The IBF people get my articles and then they put in the photos. So once again, don't be so quick to pass judgment before getting to the bottom of things. Add that one more beer to the one you already owe me.
Thanks too for the $10 bet that you lost for betting for Australia against NZ..DUH! :p
adelina76 03-19-2006, 11:26 PM I've sent 4 articles already to the IBF for them to publish on the website but due to some IT problems, they can't put them up yet, bummer! :crying:
Hopefully, they'll all turn up soon! Having a great time here! Lots of hard work! Everyday it starts at 9am and I literally stayed here until the games finish, normally after 11pm! Longer hours than normal working hours!! Still, can't complain, get to see the games and rub shoulders with top players!
Will gossip more later. For now, I just want to say thanks guys for the encouragement and support! I'm working towards being asked to cover the Thomas Cup and Uber cup finals in Tokyo! *keeping fingers tightly crossed*

adelina76 03-20-2006, 08:38 AM Malaysia has won the gold medal and I was there for the historic moment! Well, me, Loh, Maz and FEND actually...it was amazing! We then all took pictures with the players! I got mine taken with WMC, LCW, CCM&KKK and WMC even lent me her gold medal so I can pretend that it was me instead of her that helped Malaysia won the gold medal, hehehe :D
She's a nice person...hehehe, too bad IBF not paying me for my one to one interviews with all these players...big mistake! :P I got great ones with WMC, LCW, Emms/Robertson and the new Indian sensation, Saina Nehwal. Next on my list will be Ronald Susilo, Lili and Clark/Blair.
Hopefully my report on the gold medals night will be out tomorrow.

maybe u should interview Aamir:D :D :D . ask him how he feels about his comments that day. why is his socalled sure win became a tragedy? why is Malaysia which is not even in his list can beat the odds and became a champion? and also ask him to visit this website to chat with us, i am sure there will be many questions waiting for him.
tze yang 03-20-2006, 08:50 AM man...im really missing out, anyone has tickets for individual semis?every damn thing is sold out...even lawn bowl!!!blame myself for not making my mind up soon enough...

cooler 03-20-2006, 10:12 PM So what's new:rolleyes:
the latest rumor is that IBF is gonna lay the blame of slow badminton progress in North & South America to some IT problems as well;)
hcyong 03-20-2006, 10:43 PM man...im really missing out, anyone has tickets for individual semis?every damn thing is sold out...even lawn bowl!!!blame myself for not making my mind up soon enough...
What? You mean all 5 lawn bowls tickets have been sold? It's more interesting than I thought :)
tze yang 03-20-2006, 10:48 PM all the final and semis and quarters for lawn bowl are sold out, only 1 day out all left i think...and badminton todays the only day that has tickets left...
If anyone has badminton tickets for semis I would do anything to have them...I'll even go to ur place to pick them up...
noluckjim 03-21-2006, 02:26 AM Nice article Adelina. It's strange and interesting, but somehow it feels like something you would write :). Although a little verbose at times:
A total of 59 gold medals had been won and lost and now 40 years later, six more gold medals will be up for grabs at this year's Melbourne 2006 XVIII Commonwealth Games in the Mixed Team, Men Singles, Ladies Singles, Men Doubles, Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles events.
Try saying that sentence 10 times fast :p
Dreamzz 03-21-2006, 03:40 AM I not in the Pic.. coz i'm the one taking it. :) Great to hear that Msia won GOLD in the Mixed Event.
oho, i see what you mean, i've reread the sentence again now. haha, i thought you meant your picture as in you in it, rather than you owning it!

Well, if you can't read and understand that sentence, then you're too slow! :p
It's funny how suddenly all the articles came up all at once at the IBF website, oh well, better late than never. Seems like they've fixed the problems and the articles are coming out sooner. Will try and get them in faster and faster.
This next article is the one all you Australian hot blooded males have been waiting for. It has a feature on your darling Tania Luiz, so enjoy! :D
Can't write in the article but have to offer my condolences to you boys who're thinking of making her your wife..she's already taken! (not married, but happily taken as she'd put it).
Ok, better go and write some more!

noluckjim 03-21-2006, 07:41 PM Meanwhile, top seed Malaysia enjoyed another stroll in the park against Northern Ireland, winning 5-0. No doubt the Guinness stout loving team members and fans will now at least be able to start their Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations a bit earlier than originally scheduled.
haha, brilliant :)

siaowei 03-22-2006, 09:21 PM Hi there Tze Yang,
U really sound desperate for tickets, I know exactly how u r feeling :crying: What happened to my friend and I was on 19/3, we went for the mixed team qf, saw Malaysian team won then we wanted to see the sf at night but tickets were sold out. Then, the next day, we found out that the malaysians would be playing against the English, u just cannot imagine how desperate we were for tickets. We managed to get tickets for the bronze medal match NZ VS India, after all the go india go india inspiration ( well they won unexpectedly) and knowing that Malaysia has never won a gold medal in this even before, there's no way that we would give up the final match on that night, even though there were no tickets left  .We had all these "evil" thoughts of getting in there without a ticket eg. hide in the toilets, pretend to be volunteers etc etc just to see the Malaysian team played.....Now I think back, u can go very far if u r desperate, even beyond ur imagination. But, of course, these were just bad thoughts, don;t even think about them because u'll embarass ur country if u do it:rolleyes: . So, what we did in the end was to ask around for tickets, we tried all the NZ spectators because we assumed that they might have tickets for the final in advance. Luckily we didn;t give up, in the end this lady from NZ offered her tickets to us because she said there's no point for her to go to the final since NZ had lost. So, yeah, we got the tickets!!!! And that night was just unforgettable as what Adelina76 had reported...I still cannot get over it! SO Tze yang, please try ur luck!! U never know!!!:D
adelina76 03-28-2006, 08:43 PM Hey guys!
As you all know, this is my first stint as an IBF journalist and reporter at the recently concluded Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games. Before I describe my experience, I just want to say that it's not all glamour and fun but lots and lots of hard work. To give you an idea, think of it this way. One's normal office working hours goes from 9 to 5, 8 hours. I was there for 11 days. 9 of the 11 days, I work from 9am until 1am. That's a 16 hours day. Besides badminton, there were weightlifting and boxing in the same building but I did not even have time to step next door to have a look as I was either always at the badminton hall watching the games, interviewing the players or at the media press centre writing up my articles, sorting out the photos and sending them to IBF.
Still, the amazing bit? I managed to talk face to face with many of my badminton idols, interview them thoroughly, get juicy details, get their autographs and also met lots of officials and other people like me who loves the game and have given a lot to it and received back in abundance. I have also managed to get Wong Mew Choo's shirt which she wore to beat Tracey Hallam in the mixed team final, unfortunately, also the same one where she lost to Tracey in the women's singles final. Also managed to get one of the English team's shirt..don't laugh but up till now, I still am not sure whether the shirt belongs to Gail Emms or one of the other girls, but definitely one of them!
I also managed to squeeze in some time here and there to do a very small amount of sightseeing, like the beautiful south bank by the Yarra river and also the infamous Victoria market.
Of course, I must also mention the great catch up session with the BC people in Melbourne, like Badfever, Twodogs, Maz, FEND, Loh, Kong-19, Kim and Hagene who I would never had got a chance if I wasn't writing the articles. I hope you guys had as much fun reading them as I did writing them. Here are some photos taken that I would like to share with you all.
Hopefully, this experience will be a launching pad for more assignments with IBF including the big six star tournaments and the Thomas / Uber Cup. Please keep your fingers crossed for me.
Last but by certainly not lease, all thanks and gratitude to Raphael Saschetat who made all this possible for me through his contacts with IBF. Thanks Raphy. I owe you one! :)
adelina76 03-28-2006, 08:58 PM I still haven't worked out how to label my photos. So here in the old fashion way are the description of the pictures.
1. The professional journalist at work..yeah right!
2. Blurry pictures of gold medalists in women’s doubles – Chin Eei Hui /
Wong Pei Tty and myself
3. Bronze medal winner, Chetan Anand and myself
4. Women’s doubles player, Donna Kellog, her bronze medal and moi!
5. The proud and promising Indian team
6. Gold medalist in women’s singles – Tracey Hallam and yours truly
7. Bronze medalist in women’s singles – Susan Hughes of Scotland and
me.
8. Silver medalist in women’s singles – Wong Mew Choo and myself
9. The BC Melbourne group hard at work!
10. William Milroy and Tamara Sun with me after their match of last 16 against Simon Archer and Ella Tripp of England. See Milroy’ racquet’s broken! Big smasher that boy!
Well done Adelina. I just read this post.
Winex West Can 03-29-2006, 02:02 AM I think you did a great job on the articles minus a few typos here and there :D and looking forward to more (TC/UC?) although I still can't believe that you gave up your lawyer profession (temporarily?) but badminton still rules, eh?
Great photos too.
Recognize Loh from previous pics and would guess that the two young un's are Fend and Kong-19.
Hagane 03-29-2006, 06:11 AM Kong-19.

Good to see that Loh and kong-19 are sporting the new range of team-wear released by BC. Kwun only needs to release matching shorts and shoes!

I saw that match on TV. Milroy realised the shaft had broken and attempted to play the next shot discarding the handle - holding only the broken shaft...all in all it was highly entertaining. However this does leave a bitter aftertaste (on global TV) on how durable BK racquets are.
In another match, the camara captures Tamara Sun sitting in the audience. This was after their defeat. She looked mighty cheezed off.
DinkAlot 03-29-2006, 07:15 AM Nice pics and a nice write-up!
Keep up the great work! :D
tze yang 04-07-2006, 09:48 AM "and many other senior New Zealand and Australian players. Aamir Ghaffar of England, Wong Choong Han, Choong Tan Fook, Wong Pei Tty and Wong Mew Choo of Malaysia will most likely also retire before the next Games."
Sorry i just read this and wondering, isnt WMC only 23 yo?she should still be in the next games wouldnt she?unless shes no longer msia no.1
I quite like the overall article though...hehe
badcliq 04-07-2006, 10:06 PM she'll reach the age to marry...then when married..no time liaw..:P
