MEN'S SINGLES
Lee Chong Wei vs Boonsak Ponsana -- close candidate for match of the final as well.

MEN'S DOUBLES
Hoon Thien How/Tan Boon Heong vs Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah -- as one of you aptly put it....the master vs the apprentice.

WOMEN'S SINGLES
Wang Chen vs Kaori Mori -- Wang should win

WOMEN'S DOUBLES
Chien Yu-Chin/Cheng Wen-Hsing vs Du Jing/Yu Yang -- some said Du/Yu has 80% chance of winning...which I think is too exaggerating. Iin terms of experience and ranking, Chien/Cheng remains the favorite. Chien/Cheng has troubled the top Chinese pairs.

MIXED DOUBLES

Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir vs Sudket Prapakamol/Saralee Thungthongkam (MATCH OF THE FINAL) -- hope I can watch it...the only chance for Team Indonesia to claim a title.

I think Boonsak has great chance to win the title. Because I still can see the tired on LCW after CWG then direct to this ABC.

Chien Yu-Chin/Cheng Wen-Hsing never beaten China WD pairs.
Now DU/YU's ranking points is 17520 while CYC/CWH is 25311, but you must notice, DU/YU only have five( not six ,exclude Asian Championships 2005 ) mathches record.simply calculate, their ranking poins should be 10*17520/5=35040 if they have ten mathches record.

At the quarter of 2006 Swiss Open, DU/YU beat CYC/CWH 11:15 15:6 15:8. And DU/YU is the wd champion of 2006 swiss open.
So DU/YU should have more chance to get the wd title:)

IF DU/YU get the WD titile ,their ranking points will be 21720, they will rank the tenth, advance ten place from 20th.

I know, you are Indonesian! you support indo!you always hope china will lose!but at the most time, you always feel disappointed.after all, china always take the most titles of badminton international games.:D

I think you should be very joyless in NOV,6,2005. The china players sweep all the titles in hongkong open.your Location shows "Hong Kong", I think you would see the scene.

Don't get so worked up buddy. Don't vent all your frustration on me just because two of China's women's singles "suprisingly" lost to "supposedly more experienced" opponents.

Of course, China is still the dominant team in world badminton and everyone (including me) has the "eyes" to see that. There is no need to brag about it! I can live with Chinese players winning titles, but I would prefer to see upsets especially in the ladies event :D

You will feel a slight tinge of disappointment if the team you support loses, and sport is not always about winnings  Also, winning and losing in the racquet games are pretty common. So, I don't really get too excited or upset easily when watching racquet games.

My personal experience tells me that badminton is still not the sport that gives me extreme heartache or joy. Taufik winning (losing) the Olympic gold or the Indonesian team winning (losing) the Thomas Cup do not really generate enough joy (heartache) for me....as much the victory that Manchester United got in the Champions League in May 1999 + the treble they achieved in that year. The later event was so filled with drama that it is easily my happiest moment as a fan of any sporting event!

Or try this for heartache....your team is leading all the way up to the final day and were up 1-0 till the last few minutes of the season...then the unexpected happened...2 goals scored in the dying minutes. Your team eventually lost the league title at the last few moments to your most bitter-rival! Even worse case: you lose the league only because of 1 goal difference.

Those 2 scenarios happened to the other team that I support....and those were really terrible feeling! Coupled with the fact that in one of the scenarios....you were initially going for 4 titles...including a prestigous European title (lost the final in injury time)....but ended up with nothing at the end of the season! Easily my worst moments as a football fan!

So...my advice to u....take it easy mate!

OK, I got 8/10 correct for the SF. Really thought the SIN pair would upset the THAI pair in XD. Nevertheless, my final predictions:

Lee Chong Wei vs Boonsak Ponsana - LCW 60% (is he carrying an injury?)
Hoon Thien How/Tan Boon Heong vs Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah - CTF/LWW 75% (men teach boys how to handle final pressure)
Wang Chen vs Kaori Mori -- Wang should win - WC 95% (thanks for showing up Kaori)
Chien Yu-Chin/Cheng Wen-Hsing vs Du Jing/Yu Yang - Du/Yu 55% (rested youngsters edge it out)
Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir vs Sudket Prapakamol/Saralee Thungthongkam - Nova/Butet 70% (superior and in better form)

What a bad forecast for the Indonesian Thomas Cup contingent. None of them make it to the final :(. PBSI better starts planning something. The Indonesian team performance is abysmal compared to Malaysia. Aaaarrggghhh, I'm soooo MAD. They should just fire all those incompetent fools admin in PBSI!

Hope Nova/Lilyana will win and save the Indonesian team face. What a shame if they did not bring back a single title in this competition.

Don't worry, Choong-Lee only beat Luluk-Alven in 3 games, but I think the home crowd factor contributed a lot to Malaysian's success in the competition, for example, Hoon-Tan vs Chandra-Sigit, Chandra-Sigit significantly did not display their level.

NOt sure whether he is injured, but he is not in form, you could see that today, from his match against Park Sung Hwan, as he didn't have any training after the Commonwealth Games

Thailand's Boonsak storms into Asian badminton finals Sat Apr 1, 10:04 AM ET

Thailand's Boonsak Ponsana has stormed into the men's singles final of the Asian Badminton Championship, setting up a showdown with the Malaysian top seed.

Boonsak, a law student from Bangkok, delivered a hard-fought victory over China's Chen Yu in their semi-final clash at the Johor Baru indoor stadium. He will battle Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei for the singles crown.

Chong Wei, the home crowd's obvious favourite, dismissed South Korea's Park Sung Hwan in the other semi-final, and his performance throughout the event has marked him as the clear favourite.

But the Malaysian underplayed the hype on Saturday, saying the Thai shuttler would be a tough opponent.

"Boonsak has beaten all the top players in the world before, which means he has the quality. Add that to his never-say-die attitude on the court and I have to be on my toes tomorrow," Lee said.

"No doubts -- he is a good player and the match could go either way."

The two last met four months ago at the Southeast Asian Games team event in Manila, and it was Lee who triumphed in three games under the 15-point format.

But for Boonsak, that match is already ancient history.

"The Manila meeting was the first time we played each other. But that was under different circumstances. Tomorrow would be different again," Boonsak said.

"There is my personal target to achieve, and having made it to the first final of the year in a major meet, I want to do well. Hopefully the Malaysian crowd would be behind me just like they had been in my previous matches."

Malaysia's winning ways continued in the men's doubles draw, with the unseeded 2004 World Junior champion pair of Hoon Thien How and Tan Boon Heong slated to face veterans Choong Tan Fook and Lee Wan Wah in the final.

Hoon and Tan overcame the South Korean pair of Hwang Ji Man and Jung Tae Keuk in their semi-final clash, while Choong and Lee brushed aside the second seed Luluk Hadiyanto and Alven Yulianto of Indonesia in the other semi-final.

In the women's singles, defending champion Wang Chen of Hong Kong will go for her third title after booking her place in the final with an easy straight games win over China's Jiang Yanjia.

Wang, who is also the tournament's top seed, won the title in Jakarta in 2003 and again in Hyderabad, India last year.

In the final, she will face her old foe Mori Kaori of Japan in a repeat of last year's showdown where the China-born shuttler won in straight games under the 15-point format.

"It has been a tough tournament, especially my victory over China's Jiang Yanjia in the semis. I expect Kaori to be just as tough an opponent in the final. She is a fighter and a very steady player too," Wang said.

"So patience is the key to victory."

last time i saw boonsak was him against jin chen of 06 china master which boonsak look sharp. I view boonsak had made improvement since the athen olympic. He brings a different flavor of MS which is good to watch instead chenhong, LD, PG all the time:D If boonsak wins, it would give a big boost of badminton to thailand. Imagine hearing crowds yelling 'BOON-SAK-BOON-SAK':P

A good start for the World Champion.

I believe that when they are in form, only 4 pairs have the ability to beat Nova/Butet: Zhang Jun/Gao Ling (no 1 nemesis), Nathan Robertson/Gail Emms (used to be able to beat them comfortably, but have not been able to beat them since Nathan returned from his injury...with 2 losses in the HK Open quarter-final and All England semi-final), Xie Zhongbo/Zhang Yawen (slowly emerging to be a real world class XD pair), and Lee Jae Jin/Lee Hyo Jung (haven't really met them in the recent months...but Nova/Butet has lost a number of times to them early to mid of last year).

LCW first reachs the halfway mark of the first set, leading 11-5.

I have a feeling he likes the new system, with a fast-attacking play and cross-court shots. Both Taufik and Lin Dan will really have problems facing LCW.

Boonsak is also looking good. He has gotten a few more pts to make the scoreline a little tighter at 14-11, including some brilliantly played shots.

Game pt to LCW after an out-of-court return by Boonsak. He clinches the set 21-12, after yet another poor return by Boonsak.

LCW ups the tempo in the middle of the first set when Boonsak was closing in at 14-11, which causes Boonsak to somehow lose his focus and make a number of unforced errors.

I think LCW will get yet another title.....he has been on a roll.

Remember that Boonsak has beaten Taufik when Indonesia played Thailand in Jaipur. He has won the Asian gold in 2002...so its unlikely that he has the motivation to play for the gold. At the moment, he is not even exposed to the new system yet, winning only 1 match against Nguyen Tian Minh in Jaipur. He lost easily to LCW.

Lin Dan is still the man to beat...because of his consistency. But, I fancy Lee Chong Wei....you have seen how quick he is today and he seems to be pretty comfortable with the new system.
I rank Chen Jin 3rd because from the few times I have seen him play, he really impresses me.

1st set won by junior pair 21-17

The junior pair was formerly World Junior Champion....so...they have the potential to make the top 10 in time to come.

IMHO, CCM/KKK still lacks that something to make them into a real world class pair. CTF/LWW probably will be around for another 1-2 years and then its the 3-4 pairs below them who will really be Malaysia's future. Gan Teik Chai/Abdul Latif Mohd Zakry is a pair on the rise this year with some good performance. Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari/Lin Woon Fui is another pair that has been around for 2 years now. Both pairs need to win a GP title to really boost their confidence. Meanwhile, Tan Bin Shen/Ong Soon Hock has not been competing for quite some time...probably time to reshuffle them?

The latest sensation is undobtedly Hoon Thien How/Tan Boon Heong. They have decent performance as a junior pair last year, and if they can win the title today, it will be a solid morale and confidence-booster for them to compete with the best.
