View Full Version : Malaysia TC Squad
weeyet 04-14-2006, 02:28 AM Singles:
Lee Chong Wei, Wong Choong Hann, Muhd Hafiz Hashim, Kuan Beng Hong
Doubles:
Chan Chong Ming, Koo Kien Keat, Lee Wan Wah, Choong Tan Fook, Chew Choon Eng, Tan Boon Heong
weeyet 04-14-2006, 02:31 AM Which would you all think is more suitable?
WCH playing 2nd or 3rd singles?
I thought Hafiz was the 2nd singles but now things changed!! He is playing 3rd singles and he lost to Simon in ABC
**KZ** 04-14-2006, 03:07 AM tan boon heong? are you sure?
Judging from the Commonwealth performance, I don't think Choon Hann has any advantage over strong contenders from China, Denmark, Indonesia or even Korea as second single. Putting Hafiz as second will not improve the situation either, however, the experience of Choon Hann will help if he play as third single(won't happen now as Choon Hann rank higher than Hafiz). Malaysia can only count on Lee Chong Wei and Choong/Lee so our chance of winning the champion is still quite slim unless Hafiz able to steal a point as third single.
Lets hope Rexy can continue his magic on our MDs.
weeyet 04-14-2006, 03:12 AM tan boon heong? are you sure?
yes... news from local reporter...
madbad 04-14-2006, 03:16 AM Really? If it's true, extremely surprising picks.

hmm... a young talent prepared for future...
other reasons given is Boon Heong can partner with other players well which is a main criteria for selection
mirrura 04-14-2006, 03:20 AM Then I think it seems that BAM really wants to groom this young player up and prepare him for the future since BAM have high hopes on him. Really surprising when he and his partner, Thien How was a last-minute call up for training in Sarawak for their great run in the ABC.

I thought if Choong Hann plays 3rd singles, Malaysia will have a big advantage over other countries except China, but now Hafiz, we aren't even confident that he can bring victory to Malaysia if the competition with Indonesian (or even South Korea) is tied at 2-2 :(
Phoebe_hsw 04-14-2006, 04:11 AM hahaha...weeyet....u so fast....
i only think about to post here.then i saw your thread
KourKK 04-15-2006, 12:32 AM Confirmed Team for Malaysia
Lee Chong Wei
Wong Choon Han
Mohd Hafiz Hashim
Kuan Beng Hong
Koo Kien Keat
Chan Chong Ming
Choong Tan Fook
Lee Wan Wah
Chew Choon Eng
Tan Boon Heong
very very suprised at Tan Boon Heongs admission, but he has been playing great lately. do you guys think he will get any game time? perhaps they might field him agaisnt the 'lesser' powers like the USA etc.. but all bodes well for malaysian doubles future.. now we need some singles..
chibe_K 04-15-2006, 12:58 PM oh no.....Chew Choon Eng made it to TC team, why ??? His performance was really disappointing at WC2005. His partner was Chong Tan Fook at that time and Chew made so many unforced errors...I have less confidence that Malaysia can even make it to the semis.
**KZ** 04-15-2006, 08:10 PM chew choon eng is experienced...he can partner anyone when a replacement player is needed......in the last Thomas Cup he partnered a then young KKK and almost bt Flandy and Eng Hian.....if they won...it could go into a 3rd singles match and Hafiz would've wrapped it up....hope this time it would be different...
pauline 04-15-2006, 08:29 PM wish Malaysia TC squad all the best....
chibe_K 04-15-2006, 10:26 PM What happen to his regular partner, Ong Hock xxx who played at ABC06?
fishnet wen*yi 04-15-2006, 10:27 PM i think its a good idea to put boon heong in the team, just like koo kien keat in the last thomas cup. he may be the next top doubles player. besides, you should give hafiz more credit. he may be playing below par lately, but this is a team event. i think that he will perform better to not let his team mates down and besides, doesn he perform well when ppl least expect him too? who knows, he might spring up a surprised and prove us all wrong abt him.
choon eng is a versatile player. not surprised they picked him... but i honestly thought that lin woon fui-fairuzizian would be selected instead. if any player got injured, this pair should be strong enough to replace them. better to put a compatible pair in as replacement than form a scratch combination which may be very risky. what do u think?

Chew Choong Eng is probably the most inconsistent and erratic active player in international competitions.
Chew won't see much action anyway since Malaysia have Koo/Chan and Lee/Choong. Chew does have experience TC experience from 2002 playing 1st doubles. Perhaps that's the reason why he's included on the squad this time?

Watched him played in the ABC final against Lee-Choong... he is sure a top player in the making... very fast and explosive.

Come to think of it after reading this, I can recall Hafiz's team's performance has been quite OK. Like during the last SEA Games edition, when the team was down 2-0 in the finals against Indonesian, Hafiz saved the day, beating Sony in the second singles. Although it was only a small tournament, it did prove something there. And during the 2002 Thomas Cup in China, Hafiz defeated Bao Chunlai in the semis as well, that was loong, loooongg time ago when Bao Chunlai's mental strength weren't that good. Anyhow, as far as I can remember, Hafiz's record in the team's event has been positive, it was his elder brother Roslin who gave the winning cup-point to Hendrawan in the 2002 Finals, rite? :)

Yes.... CCE always make a looooot of unforce error. Especially at the front of net. Still remember last TC 2004 when against Indonesia team, the golden opportunity smash at front of the net but he failed do that. The score was 13-14, if he could smash at front net then they would be tie at 14-14. Poor..... and then service over and Indo won the match :(

Really heartache to lost in that way...
taufik-ist 04-17-2006, 03:20 AM lcw is mas locomotive... he must win period :)

His bro was not comfortable with 7 X 5 system. Hafiz is not comfortable with 21 X 3 rallypoint system. :(

tze yang 04-17-2006, 08:02 AM I have confidence in this malaysian team, LCW has grown to a top class player, maybe not the likes of lin dan and taufik but certainly close enough to put them under pressure, WCH is reliable and consistent, and his experience would prove vital in this thomas cup, for Hafiz, he certainly is a top class player with all the talent, only 2 things lets him down, inconsistent and mental, if a little luck goes his way this time, he can definitely defeat any of the 3rd singles players...
For doubles, it looks even brighter than i wouldve expect it to be 2 years ago, when msia ran out of players, CCM&CCE split, Choong/Lee injured, no more juniors, then KKK turned up, right place right time, and now 3 other very promising pairs plus a world junior champion and the brilliant comeback of choong/Lee...So i think for Chan/KKK, they are capable of defeating any 1st doubles, chinese are obviously not invinceable, denmark is good but is still beatable, koreans arent good enough, indons who have been dominating the world rankings have crashed to many msians recently...and with Choong/Lee playing 2nd doubles, all looks good and set for the taking...
To me the biggest challenge to the msians is the mental power, if it all goes well, they'll win...
To conclude i must say Malaysia has made the right choice to bring in foreign coaches, especially Li Mao and Rexy...Rexy seems very effective, and is probably the reason for Nathan/Gail's rise to world no 1 too...

It will be a test whether or not CCM/KKK can really rise up to the occasion. So far, they tend to lose to the top pairs like Chandra/Sigit or Eriksen/Hansen. However, they have beaten Fu/Cai in their last encounter, in the World Championship last year.
Choong/Lee, on the other hand, looks more stable and Malaysia can rely on team to get points from all the top teams.
With a little bit of luck, I think Malaysia can win the TC!
alloh 04-25-2006, 07:22 AM Why WCH's wife look so old? I still remember she was look pretty when at their wedding dinner (picture showing on newspaper).

alloh 04-26-2006, 12:07 AM is that choong hann's wife??
Yes ..... she is.
I heard his wife is an airline hostess?
nelsonkong 04-26-2006, 12:14 AM Tan Boon Heong...he is great and he will be the next KKK...in a way.
And Chew Choon Eng used to partner with Chan Choong Meng.
If we can reach the final against China...we probably can gain point by LCW, Tanfook-WanWah and Wong Choong Han...and hopefully we can get the Thomas cup back...*Touches wood
nellute 04-26-2006, 07:08 AM All the best to the Malaysia squad. Can't wait to watch them play against Indonesia, South Korea, Denmark and China.
Let's break the great wall.
