As the winner of group X will meet China in semifinal, so I think Holland and England would try their best to finish second. Hehe, what a match :D

haha... who knows hong kong already lose to taiwan before they "meet" korea... but i think this hard to happen..Oh, I'm sure Hong Kong will lose to Taiwan. After Wang Chen, they don't have much left and even Wang lost to Cheng Shao-Chieh in the WC last year.

Korea will have a tough job, though. They have to play Taiwan and then either England or Japan before playing China in the finals. Fortunately they don't have to face China before the finals again. I expect they'll drop a singles point to the Chinese women in each group matches but they should still emerge in first place.

Lee Yun-hwa is hot these days. In the Asian championships, she beat both Singapore's Li Li and Taiwan's WC semi-finalist in straight games before losing to a Chinese player. Too bad she won't be playing first singles, especially since Seo Yoon-hee lost to both of those players in the UC Asian qualifiers. Lee might play second, though, since Hwang Hye-youn was injured recently. Hwang will be playing but her condition seems iffy.

Basically, Korea's team will be the same as in 2004 only with Jun Jae-youn playing 3rd singles instead of 1st and with both Hwang Hye-youn and Ra Kyung-min added to the squad. Neither of them were there for the 2004 event.

Well, mostly we will only see the 3 out of 5 players (pairs) you listed to play in each round (even semi / final). Unless there's a big disaster, I doubt any team can even push CHN ladies to send on the 5th player (3rd WS).

but Taiwan doesn't have much left also... :D
I think Taiwan 1st WD certainly grab the point

Basicaaly Hong Kong has better WS based on world ranking. However, world ranking doesn't mean much btw.

China's 3-0 wins will come in the playoffs only.

A bit sad eh? Winners in 1994 and 1996, ten years after that they don't even qualify for the finals.

I would say, though, that the women's doubles is looking stronger than they have since the turn of the century. However, the singles players are still woefully outclassed. And obviously Nova and Lilyana are more of a force in mixed than Indonesia has had in years but, of course, that is irrelevant to this tournament.

Yes, I agree. What I intended tried to say, is to be "pushed" to use the 5th candidate (3rd WS), to determine a "live or die" situation. Means, a "real fight".

In group play, all 5 games will be played, but 99% CHN will easily blow out everyone by 3-0 after 3 games, and the last 2 are very much meaningless, unless there's another team with same team vs. team record, and need the # of games to determine playoff match up. Even so, as long as CHN gets into playoff, they have the best chance to clinch the title. ;)

That's expected. One is willing to spend money. The other is trying to save every penny. The gap between these 2 powerhouses will get bigger and bigger.

Will China drop a game in Uber cup? Will China drop a set? Will China drop a point?

I bet that China will loose a point or more in every match.
