Hi Chris, just wonder whether you've been to the Southern Star at 52 Henderson Road, Keysborough, which is run by Irvan Lay, ex-Indonesian. Kim brought us there during the MCG. That was FEND walking towards the entrance with his badminton gear.

Hi Loh,
Yes, I know Irvan Lay and his Southern Star Stadium.
During the Northern Ireland Team's stay in Melbourne for the Commonwealth Games 2006, I took them there on 2 occasions; (1) to spar with Southern Star's best players, and (2) to spare with top Australian players who did not participate in the Games.
Because of the better ex-Olympics court carpet at Southern Star, the England Team was also using that venue for their their training.
Looks like FEND was carrying 10 rackets in his bag.

Hi Chris@CCC,
I think i might go to that one instead of the Sunday session @ Albert park once this Glen Waverly one starts. Coz it's on Friday night... the time looks good to me. For the moment, I am not sure if i am attending by myself.. there's someone i know who might also be interested.
However, please keep me informed with any new changes.

Greetings,
Good news!!! Our group is formed, even though we are starting small.
We will play at Glen Waverley, every Fridays, 8:00pm to 10:30pm, starting on Friday, 28-April-2006.
Since we have 4 courts and 8 players(at the moment), we are still accepting new players.
Also, because we have so many courts for so few players, this is an opportune time to players who love playing games of Singles.
Cheers... chris@ccc

Sorry,
We cannot start the Glen Waverley Fridays' session earlier.
On Fridays, I have a coaching session from 3:30pm to 5:30pm, and I have also been approached by some players, requesting for coaching from 6:00pm to 7:30 at Hawthorn/Clayton North.
Therefore, the social session at Glen Waverley will be Friday 8:00pm to 10:30pm.
Perhaps I can combine Hawthorn/Clayton North and Glen Waverley together. Let's have some more discussions as time goes by.

Hi Chris, sure, it's a Yonex NS 6000 with BG80 @ 24 pounds. Feels light and powerful, quite happy with it.
I am going to Altona tomorrow with my friends, will play with the racquet more.
Thanks for the games last night. Haven't played so long in a session for a while now. A bit of soreness in the wrist and back, no problems sleeping last night :D, I will recover for next Friday.

He carries with him a whole range of badminton products, rackets, shuttles, badminton bags, etc... If you need any badminton products, please feel free to ask Steve during our CCC's badminton sessions. He will be pleased to asssist you with your enquiries/requests.

Yes it was a good start for all of us last night at CCC @Glen Waverley. It coincides with the start of the Thomas/Uber Cups, 2006.
So it's A Day to Remember!!!
Watching some of you guys playing Singles games, I mean Kee, Kenneth, Joe, Joel, Robert, Peter, Bill, etc... I could detect that some of you guys are not as fit as you should be for Singles. May be you guys should play more games of Singles in the next few weeks... so as to build up your stamina.
Kee... I hope the soreness in your wrist is not too bad.
Yih Sheng... I thought your stamina is good, but you did not play Singles. May be, you should play some Singles games next week.
Kevin... I was quite impressed with your overhead backhand clear.
Alex... I like your approach to your games... serious but courteous.
Julian... You have to improve on your fitness.
Lily-C... I will teach you a few more things next week.
Chiranthium, Kim, Matt... We were waiting for you guys the whole night. What happened?
See you guys next Friday.

Hi Chris & everybody else! :)
It was a really good session last night.
I was quite shocked  when I arrived at the entrance last night and was actually thinking whether to run away or not... hahaha... but decided not to "chicken out" and I'm glad that I stayed.
This group of players are definitely badminton lovers with good skills.
To be honest... in the matches that I watched last night... I felt like I was sitting at the Commonwealth game. coz they are all SSSSSSSOOOO GOOD!!! and when I say "they" - I mean everyone.
Btw, gotta apologise first for those who partnered with me last night coz I bet they must be having muscle aches today (coz they technically needed to cover the whole court since I can't play very well... :o ) *oops* Anywayz, plz bear with me and I will try to improve. Maybe I will go to the Sunday session @ Albert park instead (to improve my skills and turn up on Friday night once in a while)
So... thanks to Chris and everyone else!!!
Cheers. ;)

Hi LilyC,
Glad that you have enjoyed our session last night. And glad that you think that we are of Commonwealth Games' standard.
As you find in our CCC Badminton's Posting #1, we were hoping to find players of Lower and Medium Skills. Have patience... more players of lower skill will turn up later.
And for those who partnered and supported you last night... they were actually pleased that they managed to get more exercise than they have expected.
For your sake, I will encourage more players of lower skill to attend our session, so that you don't feel so left out.
I needed to do more exercise myself, so I will always be happy to play as your partner, anytime.
Cheers... chris@ccc (chris@ccc)

Sorry LilyC & Andrew-L,
Chinese Taipei 0 : Netherlands 3, in Uber Cup Semi-Finals just concluded.
Yes, their scores were quite close. Looking at their World Rankings, Chinese Taipei did well. For those who don't know their rankings, I have included them below.
Chinese Taipei's CHENG Shao-Chieh(World No 11) was beaten by Netherlands' AUDINA TJIPTAWAN Mia(World No 5) 19-21, 17-21.
Chinese Taipei's CHIEN Yu-Chin(World No 77) was beaten by Netherlands' MEULENDIJKS Judith(World No 39) 20-22, 17-21.
Then, Chinese Taipei's PAI Min Jie(World No 139) was beaten by Netherlands' DE WIT Karina(World No 220, but was ranked No 10 just four years ago) 16-21, 21-14, 15-21. DE WIT's 10 years of experience helped her to beat the younger PAI.
It's now China Vs Netherlands in the Uber Cup Finals.

Hi Everyone,
I have to agree with Lily, it was another very good session last night. We had a few superb men double matches. There were quite a few good long rallies and beautiful returns from 'powerful' smashes.
This is very enjoyable and I am sure the next session will be as good.
Hi Chris, I promise I will have supper next week. I haven't have a late supper for a long time. ;) Have to look after my figure ma... :D
Such sad news that M'sia is out of the Thomas Cup.
Nevertheless, it will a good final between China and Denmark.
See you guys next Friday, same time, same place.

Congratulations to China... winning the Thomas Cup today.
While I was driving home from my coaching class, around 5:00pm, I received sms about the final results, as soon as it finished.
Thank you for sending me the sms... I WAS thinking about it as I was driving home.
So, as soon as I got home, I went straight to http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32709
to find out how China did it.
Yes Thomas/Uber Cups 2006 are completed now. I think the most exciting match was between MALAYSIA and DENMARK.
We'll have to wait another 2 years for this kind of excitement again.
Again... thank you for your sms.

Hi Everyone,
During our playing session, I feel that it is not good for me to interrupt your game every time I wish to tell you members something.
Unfortunately, not all of you come to supper after the Social, otherwise, that would be the best time to inform & discuss matters.
I think the best way for me to inform you of matters is via email or via Badminton Central.
So please give your email address to Llewellyn next Friday.
Our CCC Badminton Session is meant to be a regular session, but you never know... the owner of the venue might suddenly cancel one session because of some unforeseen circumstances.
For those who do not have the use of a computer, I will need to ring you(but this can be very time consuming and expensive).
Anyway, I am getting more people wishing to attend our session. Looks like in the very near future, if we continue to grow with more players, we will need to contribute less... perhaps $8 each instead of the $10. But we will wait and see... we will give it another couple of weeks before we go down to the $8 session.
Actually I have another plan. A plan that we can go down to $7.30 each. I will tell you more, after further considerations.

Hi Kevin, I see you're really starting again. I'm sure you'll all enjoy yourselves.
Congratulations Chris for taking the initiative. May your group grow bigger and stronger! :)
With best wishes from Singapore. :p BTW, don't forget to post some pics in due course.
Hi Loh & FEND.,
Both BadFever & Kim played with us last Friday, 5-May-2006. They actually partnered each other to play against us.
Unfortunately, I am still waiting for a member who could bring a camera to shoot some photos to be posted to you two.
Our membership is now reaching 20. Wish that you two were playing with us too.
Cheers... chris@ccc
Hi Chris,
How nice of you to keep us informed about our two good friends, especially Kim, whom I've been thinking about from time to time. Well since Kim is able to join you folks, he should be in good condition. I don't suppose Kim changed to his shorts as the weather may be turning colder than a month ago. On the other hand, I don't know whether FEND has started training again or he is still too busy making money.
Do post us some pics at your earliest convenience. Meanwhile, I have to stop playing for a week now because I hurt my right elbow and right ankle during a fall. I should be playing again in a week. ;)

Greetings,
Just to inform you guys... that I have posted into Melbourne, Australia.
Below is the content of the post.
Looks like we are getting more players to play with us, as I have more enquiries in the last few days. And looks like our session's fees will be reduced in another 2 or 3 weeks' time. But note my comment on concession players.

Hello Melbourne, Australia,
We have set up a Social Club (CCC Badminton) now playing every Friday, 8:00pm-10:30pm @Glen Waverley.
CCC Badminton (Coaching Club) started @MSAC, Albert Park in April, 2003, and we are still there every Sunday. More information is located at http://www.cccbadminton.com/
CCC Badminton (Social Club) started @Box Hill in August, 2003, but we have now moved to Glen Waverley as described in the first paragraph above. More information is located at http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32267
As you read about our Social Club @Glen Waverley, there are a 3 things for me to mention (this is because our club responds to the wishes of our members as we develop);
Although we wanted to have lower and medium skilled players at the start, more higher skilled players are attending. Therefore, expect to play harder when you attend.
Although we wanted to have 16 players at the start, more players are attending. Therefore, expect our charges of $10 to be reduced in the next few weeks, probably to $7 or $8 per player. But please wait and see in another 2 or 3 weeks' time.
Although we have already reduced our charges to $5 for non-income players, eg full-time students, the unemployed, any concession card holders,... again, expect some changes regarding concessions. Why??? Because we do not want our CCC @Glen Waverley to turn into a Students' Club, as I have been informed that Glen Waverley's student population is very high. Again, please wait and see in another 2 or 3 weeks' time.
With the 2 links above, you should be a to get in touch with me.

Hi Chris, have you got expressed interest from anyone in the club? I am interested in playing doubles 'C' but the time might be too short of a notice to get another partner.
Below is the info found on the Ballarat application form :-
10. All events in all grades will be completed on Saturday 3rd June 2006, and play will commence unless otherwise notified Saturday - 9.00 a.m.
11. Order of play for all Grades will be mixed doubles, singles and doubles.
The form states that entries close on 17/5/06.
Have to be at Ballarat Ken Kay Stadium by 8:45am. :crying:
Maybe next time at a place closer to home...?

Hi Fuji,
So, there are 2 points here;
The info that I've got must be for THE OPEN(International) TOURNAMENT, where the entries will close this Friday, 12-May-2006.
The info that you've got must be for THE GRADED TOURNAMENT, where the entries will close next Wednesday, 17-May-2006.
This is better news, because
(a) We think none of us are in shape to play at International Level at the moment,
(b) We now are allowed time to talk about our entries for the GRADED TOURNAMENT during our session this Friday night.
I have not got expressed interest from anyone in the club yet. You are the only one interested. May be the others are too busy and they do not have time to visit our info at Badminton Central.
Could you print out the application form for the GRADED TOURNAMENT and bring it to our session on Friday? You never know... you could find your partner as required.
BTW, my website(CCCBADMINTON.COM) has got some problem, therefore anyone trying to email me with this address chris@cccbadminton.com (chris@cccbadminton.com) might not get me.
The solution is to email me with this address cccbadminton@gmail.com (cccbadminton@gmail.com) or to post your mail here at Badminton Central, as I read Badminton Central regularly when I am not on court coaching.

Hi CCC players,
Just 3 days ago, IBF released this news;
========================
IBF NEWS
Annual General Meeting
8 May 2006
The IBF held its Annual General Meeting in Tokyo on 6 May 2006. The meeting was held in conjunction with the Yonex Thomas Uber Cup Japan 2006
Of the many points of discussion on the main agenda, the President of the IBF Dr. Jang Young Joong confirmed that all effort will be made to promote the sport of badminton and the goal of the IBF is for badminton to become the world’s No.1 racquet sport by the year 2013.
The AGM also reached a unanimous decision to permanently implement the new 21 rally-point scoring system.
Since May last year, many member nations have been experimenting with this new scoring system and have submitted positive reports. With this unanimous decision, it will now be played in all IBF World Ranking tournaments including the Beijing 2008 Olympics.
“We are happy that we have the 100 percent support of all the member nations to adopt this new scoring system. There were only requests that this should not be a short term measure and the Council will definitely respect the wishes of its members,” said Punch Gunalan, IBF Deputy President.
The 21 rally point scoring system has been reported as having many advantages to players as well as to the fans and media, making it a desirable scoring system for the promotion of the sport.
“When played according to the 21 rally point system, the duration of the game becomes more predictable and this is an advantage to the media especially television media as live telecast matches are easier to schedule. So far, airtime sales have risen considerably since this new scoring system has been used,” said Gunalan.
Sponsors are also becoming more attracted to the game while spectators are finding it exciting and easier to understand. With the old scoring system, the duration of the game was longer and physically more strenuous to most players, whereas the new rally point scoring system is less demanding and less injuries have been reported.

========================
We will play with this new 21 rally-point scoring system this Friday, 12-May-2006.
Because the duration of each game is now shorter, we will play the best of 2 games(changing ends after the first game) whenever we step onto the court for a match.
We hope that every match will end up with a 1:1 score.
For players who have not used this new scoring system before, please turn up at 7:45pm (if you can). I will coach you on how this system works. It is a very simple and easy to learn system.

Hi CCC Members,
Another GOOD SESSION @CCC Glen Waverley Friday last night, 12-May-2006.
For those who were absent... here's a report;
All members were taught how to play with the new 21 rally-point scoring system. The match we now play is a best of 2 games(changing ends after the first game).
All matches will now be organised on a whiteboard.
Number of ladies attended = 6.
Number of men attended = 13
New Players Welcomed = Steven-K, Jason-C, Jason-F, Evelyn, Matthew, Tyler.
We talked about CCC Club Membership and about reducing your payment to $5 per session for members.
CCC Members were asked to register with Badminton Central's Forum, so that our Club's communication will be posted there.
Kee's request for a partner to enter the Ballarat Tournament.
Steve-L brought samples of Yang Yang rackets for sale.

Chris... could you please explain to me next time when I turn up??? Meanwhile, I will do some research on the new scoring system so that you will have less explaining to do, or else I feel guilty. thank you!!!:)
Also, it's great to know that more people are joining us!!!
Hope to see you all soon~~~

Hi LilyC,
Do not use your precious exam preparation time to research the new scoring system. When you return, I will teach you. Don't waste 50 minutes to reseach & to learn it(and also get it wrong), when I can teach you in 5 minutes(and get it right).
As a coach, I always say to my students that... the time taken for them to learn a correct/new method is considerably much shorter than the time for them to unlearn a wrong/old method that they've learned.
WE all @CCC wish you all the BEST OF LUCK for your exams.

Hi Fuji,
Thank you for your info. The diagrams shown in location http://www.badminton.org.au/fileadmi...1_Feb_2006.pdf (http://www.badminton.org.au/fileadmin/user_upload/pdfs/New_Badminton_IBF_Scoring_-_1_Feb_2006.pdf)
are so much better than the ones I drew on our whiteboard last Friday night.
Anyway, I think most of us found the new scoring system to be fun, especially when we ended with a 1:1 score.
As we discussed during supper, the hardest thing in the new scoring system(for Doubles Games) is to know which service court(Right or Left) players should stand for the start of the next rally.
In order to know where players should stand at the start of the next rally, we have to remember who served and who received in the previous rally. Alternately, we can choose to remember who stood in which service court(Right or Left) in the previous rally.
The beauty of this new system is that whenever we have a “Service Over”, the partner of the previous server is now to serve. It does not allow a “Good Server” to be selected to serve all the time.
But note: Whenever we have a “Service Over”, it does not mean that the partner of the previous receiver is to receive. It depends on the current score.
Confused??? Well, the best way to learn the new scoring system is to get to know it by playing it.
That's why I told LilyC not to try to learn it by herself, without my guidance. It might take her long, long hours before she is confident with it.
As Peter put it(at supper time), tag yourself before a rally begins, whether you are a Right or Left service court player for that rally.
As for those who missed out on my explanation of the new scoring system last Friday, please come at 7:45pm this Friday. I will go over the new scoring system with you before the start of our games session at 8:00pm.
Cheers... chris@ccc

Hi Guys,
Below is what is posted today, 16-May-2006, on thread "Melbourne, Australia".
================================================== =======
Hi Melbourne, Australia,
CCC Badminton Club @Glen Waverley Fridays is growing faster than we expected. It is located at http://www.badmintoncentral.com/foru...7&goto=newpost (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32267&goto=newpost)
Just last Friday, 12-May-2006, we expected 20 players and we had 19 players. This Friday, 19-May-2006, we are expecting 26 players, but we will wait and see how many will turn up.
Soon, we will be asking players to apply for our CCC Club Membership. We intend to start our Club Membership in June.
We will close our application for membership when we reach the quota of 32 players. This is because we have only 4 courts at our venue.
More discussions will be held this coming Friday, 19-May-2006.

================================================== =======
Frankly our group is not quite into the new 21-rally point scoring system yet, but with its recent official adoption, I guess we'll embrace it very soon, otherwise we'll be out of touch.
We did try out once a while but we need more time to really feel it's second nature like we do the 15-point system.
For singles, I suppose not much has changed except that every rally is a point for or against you. Your court position remains the same for even and odd scores.
However, it is a little confusing for doubles as we are still stuck with the "old" 15-point system mentality. As emphasized previously, we need to know on which side of the court, left or right, are your partner and you standing at the very start of the game and if possible, when your team scored a point. Naturally, with every point scored, you will need to change court with your partner. But more importantly, when you were the last to serve, the next serve, when your team wins the point and service, should belong to your partner and not you again. This is a form of check whether you are standing and serving at the right place.
I need to persuade my group to start this new system as early as possible to get thoroughly acclimatized.

Hey Loh,
The info provided by Fuji, located at http://www.badminton.org.au/fileadmi...1_Feb_2006.pdf (http://www.badminton.org.au/fileadmin/user_upload/pdfs/New_Badminton_IBF_Scoring_-_1_Feb_2006.pdf)
is actually very good. If you follow the diagram/chart, you will follow how it is done. As they say “A picture tells a thousand words”.
As you play with the new scoring system, you will find out what I meant when I said “In order to know where players should stand at the start of the next rally, we have to remember who served and who received in the previous rally. Alternately, we can choose to remember who stood in which service court(Right or Left) in the previous rally.“
Then I stated the following 2 paragraphs:
“The beauty of this new system is that whenever we have a “Service Over”, the partner of the previous server is now to serve. It does not allow a “Good Server” to be selected to serve all the time.”
“But note: Whenever we have a “Service Over”, it does not mean that the partner of the previous receiver is to receive. It depends on the current score.”
The 2 paragraphs are true because of this rule(implied in the diagram/chart), namely, YOU AND YOUR PARTNER ONLY CHANGE YOUR RESPECTIVE SERVICE COURTS WHEN YOU WIN A POINT/RALLY ORIGINATED FROM YOUR SERVICE.
IF YOU WIN A POINT/RALLY ORIGINATED FROM YOUR OPPONENTS' SERVICE, YOU AND YOUR PARTNER DO NOT CHANGE YOUR RESPECTIVE SERVICE COURTS.
Below is the example of this pargraph; “But note: Whenever we have a “Service Over”, it does not mean that the partner of the previous receiver is to receive. It depends on the current score.”
Refer to the diagram/chart;
When the score is at AB 2:1 CD, you see that B is serving and C is receiving. Then it is “Service Over” when the score gets to CD 2:2 AB. CD wins the next rally and the score gets to CD 3:2 AB. Both the services were performed by C. Then it is “Service Over” again, when the score gets to AB 3:3 CD. Of course, A is to serve now because B did it the previous time. But note that C is receiving again, even though the C received the previous time. This is because CD changed their respective courts once, when they won 1 point originated from their service.
Personally, I prefer to remember who stood in which service court(Right or Left) in the previous rally.
So Loh... Good Luck to your club... chris@ccc

What grade are you playing at Ballarat? I played last year and not many players from Melbourne attended.
You will find a lot of the junior squad at Ballarat playing in the A and B grades. I won B grd singles and B mixed there last year, but unfortunately have another thing to attend to on 3rd June and can not make it this year:(
For the rest of you guys thinking about competition, the next tournament is City of Melbourne down at Kilsyth on 1st July (prepare for a COLD stadium):D

i wonder any social play on weeknights? except fri or sat?
Greetings,
1. If you are referring to just @Glen Waverley, then we have to wait a little bit longer.
Yes, I am intending to start one on Wednesday night @Glen Waverley 7:30pm-10:00pm. However, only 4 are interested at the moment. We need 10 players, each paying $10, to cover costs(for courts & shuttles) to start our Club.
Starting a Club is always very hard because I have to gather a certain number of players first. I have to spend many, many hours working on it. Of course, if we start with 5 players, you can see that players will have to contribute $20 each.
If there are anyone else interested for Wednesday nights, please respond.
2. If you are not referring to just @Glen Waverley, then visit this location

where you can ask them when they have Clubs for Social Badminton on weeknights other than Friday.

Hi Everyone,
Looks like we could get 24 players tonight, if everyone from last Friday are coming back again. We will still welcome friends of yours or anyone new to join us. As I have stated before, we will be closed for membership when we reach 32. But do you think we can get there?
Since we have grown bigger, we will reduce our fees for members from the start of June(which is only the 2 sessions away). This is only if our membership keeps up. Fees will go down to $5 per session for members(but if Membership Fees are included, it is really $7.30).
But I still remember BadFever's suggestion posted on 15-May-2006(as quoted above), so there might be some changes to the fees that I have just stated. I will be bringing Yonex shuttles tonight. Please tell me what you think of the shuttles.
Like every Friday, I will be out coaching the whole day, so I won't be reading any mail. If you need to contact me, please ring my mobile phone 0419-542-037.
As usual, we are going for supper at Kingsway, Glen Waverley, after our games.

Hi Chris... Good is an understatement... Magnificent I think would be the right word for me... :p
Peter and I have a very good night with all the doubles practise we had, thanks to all that came last night.
Of course, the supper was delicious too... A nice bunch of people to talk too...
Now, Friday's night is my favourite night... :D
See you all again real soon.

I will be bringing Yonex shuttles tonight. Please tell me what you think of the shuttles.
Hi BadFever,
I forgot to ask you what you think of the Yonex shuttles that I brought to our session last.Friday, 19-May-2006.
They are the YONEX AEROSENSA 30. They are the ones used for International Tournaments.
Tell me what you think of them. Mind you, they are very, very expensive.

Hi Chris,
The AS30 shuttles are very durable and the feather is of very good quality ones. I think one of the shuttle lasted us 2 sets and still usable (playing double with Kee and Peter). Correct me if I am wrong but I think the AS30 actually slowdown quite a bit after a few hit. I like it but I think the price is just too expensive. Also, I don't think I can play too many games using AS30 cos we get too many long rallies due to the slow speed of the shuttle. I guess with my standard of play, AS30 is making me play like a 10 years old. Anyway, thanks for letting me try out the shuttles.
If the Yang Yang shuttles are cheaper, I would prefer using them. We (Kim, Kee, Peter and myself) used 3 shuttles for 2 sets of 21. With this, we get faster and shorter rallies. At least, our smashes look more powerful.
Cheers.

Hi BadFever,
I apologise for the YONEX AEROSENSA 30 that I brought along last Friday was of Speed 76(slow). That was the only Speed available in stock. And I agree... Yonex shuttles are definitely overpriced.
We talked about shuttles at supper after our games. Fuji said that shuttles can be so much cheaper in Asia(if you know the right place to buy them). May be we will share the info with our members going to Asia for holidays and get them to bring back a few tubes each time.
For those who do not know about what speed is best used at what hall temperature, I will list it here for you: Best Speed(@Temperature): 75(@30C), 76(@25C), 77(@20C), 78(@15C), 79(@10C).
We will talk more about it this Friday.

After sending my last post, I went on to read other threads. I found that there are other Badminton Central members who do not understand what the shuttle speed rating mean.
So I thought I will help them to understand. And also to inform CCC members, that there is another rating system in use(that I forgot to mention), other than the one that I mentioned in my previous post.
======
I just posted to my club members about this matter at http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32267&goto=newpost (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32267&goto=newpost) (post #98) and I thought I will share the info with you too.
In general, the speed of a shuttlecock depends on its weight. The heavier, the farther it will fly.
The weight of a shuttle is measured in grains or in decigrams. 1 grain = .648 decigram.
So if you want faster shuttles, go for heavier shuttles. Usually, heavier shuttles are used when the air is colder/denser.
Here is my recommendation for what speed is best used at what hall temperature. I will list it here for you as the Best Speed in Grains/Decigrams(@Temperature): 75/47(@30C), 76/48(@25C), 77/49(@20C), 78/50(@15C), 79/51(@10C).

Hi Chris,
I thought I was going back to M'sia in mid-June but has to cancel the trip yesterday.... :crying:
I have some Ashaway shuttles (77) and will bring them this Friday. Bought from M'sia (about AUD$13) when my brother went back 3 months ago. :p
Maybe with Kevin's POWERFUL smashes, one shuttle may not last as long as 5 points... :D
Hopefully, members can bring different types of shuttles and we can judge/rate them accordingly.

Since we have grown bigger, we will reduce our fees for members from the start of June(which is only the 2 sessions away). This is only if our membership keeps up. Fees will go down to $5 per session for members(but if Membership Fees are included, it is really $7.30).
Hi Everyone,
Good news on this 101st post in our Club's thread.
Because you have made CCC @Glen Waverley Fridays 8:00pm-10:30pm a success, we have decided to lower our session fees to $5 for Club members(as discussed last Friday).
Casual visitors will continue to pay $10.
The new payment structure will commence from June-2006. So, for this Friday 26-May-2006, payments will remain the same as before.
In the next couple of days, I will be sending out Membership Forms so that you can fill in the form before you turn up at our session.
Players who have not received Membership Form by this Friday, please inform me when you turn up on Friday night.

Guess what...I also didn't know about the shuttles speeds thingy...serious!!. I have been reading some old postings in this forum, especially under "badminton equipment", I get even more confused. But I think the most important is for all of us to enjoy playing badminton. The rests are secondary, unless you plan to play competitively.

Hi BadFever,
You are correct... to enjoy badminton, we should not need to know too much. This is because if too much info is provided, we might get more confused by it.
I regret giving too much info. But since I have started it, I am going to finish it with a little bit more and to summarise/simplify it at the end of this post.
All this confusion is caused by different weight systems used in different countries, and different temperatures and/or different altitudes(above sea-level) where the venue of play is.
In Australia, not many of us know about weights measured in grains. We know about grams, even though we don't hear about decigram. 1 decigram = 1/10th of a gram.
The other point is “colder/denser air”. In physics, for those who have studied it, you would know that when the air temperature is the lower, the denser the air is. Also, the lower the altitude(above sea-level) the venue is, the denser the air is. Finally, the higher the humidity the air is, the denser the air is.
For a shuttle to travel the same distance through colder/denser air, we need a heavier shuttle.
What applies to us at CCC Badminton @Glen Waverley is that we know our hall temperature does not vary too much(10C in Winter, 30C in Summer), giving us the average of 20C. We are almost at sea-level and our himidity is averaging around 60%.
Now, some of the makers of shuttles are trying to use a 3rd Simplified Labelling(ie Speed Number), hoping this will be the Final(International) labelling for shuttle speed. They label it as 1=slower, 2=slow, 3=medium, 4=fast and 5=faster.
So to summarise; I will chart it as
Speed: Speed Number =Decigrams =Grains
Slower =1 =48 =75
Slow =2 =49 =76
Medium =3 =50 =77
Fast =4 =51 =78
Faster =5 =52 =79
If in doubt, choose Medium=3=50=77
For us at CCC Badminton @Glen Waverley, we will use Medium=3=50=77. This is all you need to know.
Cheers... chris@ccc

NO NO NO!!! Why regret for giving too much info???
I think people like me are learning from the posts!!!
If you are worrying about how this may cause confusions...
hm.. I think it's fine - serious. :)
At least now that we understand that shuttles "behave" differently under different conditions and with your summary, it's not so confusing anymore, isn't it?
Btw, Friday is near... hehe...
Cheers.

Hey Chris,
Since you have written so much about shuttlecocks (very good reading), why not keep going.
Lets see, why don't you explain about rackets. I have read quite a lot in the forum where people discuss about beginners shouldn't use expensive rackets. Other than $$$$ matter, based on your experience as a coach, what is your say about it? For example, if LilyC tells you one day that she wanted to buy a Yonex NS9000 cos she loves the colors of the racket and she don't mind paying $300 for it, what will you tell her?

Hi dust2k and everyone,
We will still welcome friends of yours or anyone new to join us tonight. We will be closed for membership only when we reach 32. But do you think we can get that many?
Tonight, we will be asking players to join our CCC Club Membership, as discussed in previous posts. Our new fees structure will start from Friday 2-June-2006(which is only the 1 session away). Fees will go down to $5 per session for Club Members, but fees remain at $10 for Casual Visitors.
Like every Friday, I will be out coaching the whole day, so I won't be reading any mail. If you need to contact me, please ring my mobile phone 0419-542-037.
As usual, we are going for supper at Kingsway, Glen Waverley, after our games tonight.

Hi Chris
Now I am confused, isn't air supposedly 'thinner' when you climb a tall mountain where the air is freezing? Not that I will test the theory of that one:D
So if I was playing badminton in Tibet, then I should use a lighter shuttle because the air is thinner? BUt you said the colder the air then the denser (thicker it is) so then I should use a heavier/faster shuttle, which I think sounds right because in summer the heavy shuttles go further and faster.
These topics are very interesting, keep them up:rolleyes: . Also let me know when your club has a few strong players and I will come for a visit some time. I have been playing over at Donvale (wah so much gambling!) or Keysborough on Friday nights when I have had free time.
Cheers Anthony

Hi Fuji,
I have proven tonight that expensive racket is not necessary going to improve my smash. As a matter of fact, my smashes were disastrous tonigh. FYI, for the last few weeks, I was using my 15 years old rackets, Pro Kennex Carbon Pro 1200 and Cab10. I think I can smash harder using them.
However, did you notice tonight that my smashes were mostly too soft and high!!! That's because I bought myself a Yonex AT800 Off. I paid $200 for it. The one thing I like about the AT800 is the loooooong handle. I guess I just need to adjust to the new racket. Anyway, it's always fun to try something new.
Happy saving, man. :D

Hi CCC Members,
As some of you would have known, the Commonwealth Games caused big problem/trouble for CCC while I was away coaching the Irish Team. But, things are getting better as we have moved along since then.
I thought I will let you be known how our CCC's plan is working in stages, as listed below;
1. Find players for CCC.
This started in May. It is actually going quite well, even though it's not easy to find players. Some of you guys would have known that I have been working overtime looking for players. Last Friday, 26-May-2006, was our 6th session. And for all the 6 sessions, 44 different individual players have come through our CCC's door.
2. Find a Good & Balanced Fee Structure of CCC.
Again, this is going quite well. You guys have agreed: $5 for members, $10 for casual vistors. This will start in June.
3. Start Handicapped Competition.
Players with CCC for more than 2 years would know how it works. This competition will start in July, 2006. New players will be informed how it works in the next few weeks.
Hey Fuji, this is where you find yourself getting real practise, as in your quote above.
4. Start Friendly Matches with other Melbourne Clubs.
This will probably start in August. I will be asking other clubs in Melbourne to have friendly matches with CCC.
5. Join the CBA's Inter-Club Competition.
This will probably start in September/October... depending on CBA's schedule.
6. Start Friendly Matches with other Clubs outside Melbourne.
Of course, I mean regional towns like Frankston, Geelong, Ballarat, etc... This will probably start in October/November.
When we reach Item No.6, I would say to myself that I have finally completed my job for you guys.

I reaaaally appreciate the time and effort you've put in this club, organising the venue and spending the time to play and mentor us. Thank you. ;)
Considering a month ago, I didn't even know CCC existed. Now I am part of this special club.
I am sure I will have plenty of practise in the coming weeks... :D Whether my body can handle it is another matter :p
After about a month of rest, I think I better get back to jogging to stay fit and keeping up the stamina... Hopefully my knee does not play up this time.
Thanks again,

I am happy to be your practice partner. Hope you and Peter can get use to each other games quickly and win the Ballarat tournament. Unfortunately, I won't be able to join you guys for supper cos I have to work the next morning. But, I will try to make it once in a while.

As I have spoken to you on the phone, there are about 8 players(at the moment) similar to your skill level. Whether they will come every Friday, I do not know. Our CCC Friday @Glen Waverley is only 6 session-old. Attendance pattern is still very sketchy.
You have played with CCC for over 2 years, and I know your skill level very well. But whether you have made much improvement since the Commomwealth Games, I will soon find out. May be, you have improved so much that I can't recognise you anymore.
Anyway, hope to see you one Friday.

Hi BadFever,
I was not sure too. Peter mentioned he is in the better grade of C, so I chose C. He did not object and that was how we have decided to play at Ballarat.
This is my first time in a C grade tournament so I am not sure of the average 'C' standard as well.
And since C is the lowest grade, might as well start from the lowest yeh... :p
Thanks for going in tomorrow and I will take it easy as I am not 100% fit... Still coughing like mad.
Thanks,
Kee

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the advice. I am already taking plenty of rest. Have been at home since Tues. Better go to work and move my leg muscles before I lose them... :D
See you tomorrow. Maybe only a light warm-up session for me Friday night?
Thanks,

In case no one notice, there is going to be a tournament in Ballarat, Australia between Friday 2/06/2006 till Sunday 4/06/2006. I wish the orgarniser would at least leave a message in BC sonner.
There are players from Malaysia, NZ, Australia and more. I saw this in the IBF website. So, if you have no plan for this week, you might want to go there and check them out.
The entry to watch the tournament is FREE. :D :D :D

Hi everyone@CCC :),
How are we all? Haven't been to Friday night sessions for 2 weeks now and I hate to say that I won't be going for the following few weeks as well and definitely won't have the opportunity to see our CCC members to compete in Ballarat. :crying: However, I still wanna say a huge good luck to the competing players, Fuji & Peter.
To Fuji: Chris is right - rest and take plenty of water to prevent dehydrating yourself. If the cough is getting bad, get a cough mixture?!?! (they may taste unpleasant though...) If not, try drink some Manuka honey (UMF 25 plus) with lemon - it really works. It works for me everytime!!!
To other CCC members: watch out for the cold&flu season and enjoy playing tomorrow night!!!
Cheers. ;)

Hi LilyC and everyone@ccc,
Tonight is the start of our new fee structure.
On arrival you will find that our Attendance Book is divided into 2 separate pages, one for Club Members and the other for Casual Visitors. Our previous 44 casual players will find their names listed in alphabetical order.
We will still welcome friends of yours or anyone new to join us tonight. We will be closed for Club Membership only when we reach 32. But do you think we can get that many?.
As at today, out of the 44 casual players, only 7 have become Club Members.
Tonight, we will again be asking players to join our CCC Club Membership, as discussed in previous posts; $5 per session for Club Members, but $10 for Casual Visitors.
Players are reminded to print your Membership Form(as I have sent ATTACHMENT to you) and fill in your details before you attend tonight. Players without printer can fill in our printed forms when you arrive.
Like every Friday, it will be a long, long day for me(18 hours to be exact) as I will be out coaching the whole day. So I won't be reading any mail. If you need to contact me, please ring my mobile phone 0419-542-037.
As usual, we are going for supper at Kingsways, Glen Waverley, after our games tonight.
And everyone@ccc (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/everyone@ccc) should wish LilyC “BEST OF LUCK” in her exams, her first one is on Monday 12-Jun-2006.
Cheers... chris@ccc

Hi everyone@ccc,
Sorry, I have forgotten to mention this item;
8. At suppertime, our CCC Handicapped Competition which we plan to commence in July was discussed. Under the New Scoring System, should we play with Handicapped Points ranging from +8 to -8, or from +9 to -9?
Decision must be made within the next 21 days. I need time to draw out the plan one week before the competition commences.
Players should also start looking for suitable partners for this Comp.

and the winner is ... not us! :crying:
We're the runner-up. Got a digital watch each.
We played 5 games, won 4 and lost 1. The 1st game we lost 21-18. 1 set only...
No time to adjust to the surrounding as it was the 1st game for us... What an excuse! :D
The Ballarat games we played today were not exciting. Besides the 1st game, the others are very one sided. I still prefer playing with my buddies at the CCC on Friday's night. I think our skills at the club are more closely matched.
There were some good international players there today.
The men single's games were so explosive.
And there were many good-looking players too... :p
Sorry, forgot to bring the digital camera. No pics.:(
Not a bad trip overall. Good experience.
Come on Chris, please bring on the handicap matches... Thanks.
Took me about 2 hours to get to Ballarat from home and another 2 hours to get back. Very tired from driving...
zzzzzzzzzzz...
Till we meet again, take care and chao...

Hi Fuji,
I would suggest that you guys win a Tournament @C-Grade before you move on to B-Grade.
Our Badminton Association in Melbourne do not have an Official Grader. In the past, Des Watson was consulted about grading of players. At the moment, I have been consulted(occasionally) by CBA(through Gary Grierson) about grading of players. But I am not the Official Grader for Melbourne.
When I was the Official Grader for the Sydney Badminton Association, I would promote players who have won an event. In order words, when a player wins a C-Grade, I would promote him/her to B-Grade. By doing so, I was preventing anyone to win C-Grade twice.
But in Melbourne, we do not do it that way. Players can win several C-Grade Tournaments. To me, I think it is silly. Why do we want to win so many C-Grade trophies anyway?
So, for you, try to think similar to my philosophy, win a C-Grade trophy first and then move on. The trophies should remind you of your progress in Badminton over the years. And if you work hard enough. you should eventually win a B-Grade and A-Grade, and even get into the Open/International-Grade.
Cheers... chris@ccc

Hi everyone@ccc,
I was sent a mail from the owner of our gymnasium(see below);
Hello to you all.
Just a note to each of you that on two separate occasions there have been black scuff marks on the gym floor. It was ascertained that it would occur from someone playing badminton, who prefers the right side of the gym (looking at the gym from the front doors) and does not change ends during the session.
As I said, it has only happened twice. This person may have on the correct shoes but with maybe a small area of the shoe that will mark.
Please watch out for this if it is one of your group and bring it to their attention.
It was very difficult to remove these marks from the floor but we have finally done so.
I would appreciate any feedback that you can give me regarding the gym's state.
Remember
No marking shoes
Clean up after yourselves
Lock up after yourselves
No food or drink in the main gym
No going upstairs to the mezzanine floor
Keep children under your safe observation
And above all
Enjoy the facility and have a great time!
===end mail===
Well, I know it wasn't us who maked the floor. That statement ”It was ascertained that it would occur from someone playing badminton, who prefers the right side of the gym (looking at the gym from the front doors) and does not change ends during the session” proves it, as we always play matches of BEST OF 2 GAMES, changing ends after the 1st game.
I think that we have looked after the Gym in a good or proper manner. And I think we all love the Gym and we will take proper care for it.
I will also take this opportunity to reveal the Conditions of Use that I have agreed to undertake to observe and that I am willing to bind myself to be liable to pay the cost of any damage which may be done to the building and/or fixtures while under hire or use by me.

Hi everyone@ccc,
Just received this news item.
Badminton: No joy for Kiwis
(NZ Herald)
Monday June 5, 2006
It was two losses from two finals for New Zealand players at the Ballarat Badminton International in Victoria.
Commonwealth Games representative John Moody couldn't quite defend his singles title, losing in straight games to Englishman Nicholas Kidd 21-18, 21-15 in the final.
Moody is ranked at 34 while Kidd is 44 in the world. Earlier Moody had defeated Australian Stuart Gomez 21-15, 21-10 in the semifinals.
Maggie Chan accounted for Australian Erica Pong after being a set down 13-21, 21-16, 22-20 in a tough semifinal but was easily beaten by Taipei's Chia Chi Huang 21-8, 21-4 in the final.

I agree with Chris, it's very hard to prove who made those marks.
It is unfortunate for someone who wore the wrong shoes and only fair that a notice be given to every person that uses the gym. Let's hope this message is conveyed to all the groups that use the gym.
I wish to keep playing there and will do my part to keep the gym in its current conditions for years to come, clean, bright and very new bathroom...
A bit cold though at this time of the year after taking a shower... :D

Hi everyone@ccc,
I received an email regarding playing as Casual Visitor or Member @CCC, Glen Waverley Friday 8:00pm-10:30pm.
I have replied her mail. And I thought that I will inform you players of my reply.
===start reply===
We welcome you as a Casual Visitor to our CCC @Glen Waverley Friday 8:00pm-10:30pm.
Usually players join membership(because it is cheaper) when they can come regularly. If you calculate it, you'll find that members pay $7.30 per session over a season(13 weeks).
But there are other benefits if you become a member;
1. To be eligible to participate in our CCC (In-House) Handicapped Competiton.
2. To play as a member of our CCC Club Team(s) in Inter-Club Social/Competition Matches.
3. To have an active participation in our CCC Social Activities, eg dinners, parties, trips, etc...
4. To have a say/input on how CCC should grow & develop as a Club.
5. To be part of our CCC family under Chris Hoh's care/supervision in your enjoyment/development in Badminton.
We hope to see you this Friday.

Regarding the news that there have been some black marking on the court, I am pretty sure I know the group who did it.
I found severe black marks on the court a few weeks back when I had just arrived for my hit on Saturday. Without directly accusing people, I feel it might be the social club who play badminton at 4-6pm on Saturdays...
It really annoys me when beginner players have no respect for the gym or thought about things like marking shoes and can understand the owners who are upset about the difficult task of cleaning the floor again.
That brings me to my second gripe of players who pull down on the net to talk/see each other. I have seen others with their full arms and upper body resting down on the net. Don't they know that loosens the net and so when it is time for other people to play they are stuck with a lower than standard height and have to take time to adjust it again.
I am all for people who are new to badminton and enjoying the hit, but wearing non-marking shoes and respecting the equipment should be a small consideration that can be given to us.

Hi Chris, what a nail-biting 10 minutes of game!
Quick 3 goals in the last 10 minutes. Better not repeat it against Brazil ...;)
Hi LilyC, good luck with your exams and see you soon.

GREAT SHOES BARGAIN suitable for Badminton.
At the FILA outlet, 260 Nicholson Street(corner of Johnston Street), Fitzroy, you will find 3 models of Tennis shoes suitable for Badminton. The bargain is they are selling them at half price.
Hi keivan,
So have you bought your shoes from Yonex yet, with the info that I have given you?
If not, you might consider FILA. The one that I bought is the FILA Terra. You can obtain more info from this link based in Canada.

Chris, do you remember the model of the other two fila shoes that you did not buy? As i would like to look up reviews of them on the internet.
From picture on the website, looking at the bottom of the shoe it does seem they should last much longer than the yonex shoes.
I am still looking at a 2nd pair as my yonex power cushion 99M won't last another 6 months. I still have power cushion 55 though.
Maybe for the same amount of money ($100), i will buy power cushion 89.
Besides, chris have you seen hi-qua shoes? They are quite similar to lower version of yonex.

Sorry hkhung,
I don't remember the names of the other 2 models.
But you can phone the FILA outlet from where I bought my shoes. Their number is 03-9486-0390.
Just ask them for the names of all the 3 models of tennis shoes they have.
Regarding hi-qua shoes, I do not like the pattern of their shoe sole. Below is the required link(based in USA);
http://www.hiquasports.com/badminton/shoes-SH600.htm
Personally, I only like soles with smaller "herringbone" pattern. I believe that the smaller "herringbone" pattern gives the best traction.

Hi apollo11,
Welcome in advance to CCC Badminton club. Hope you can be a regular player and BC members. I think we have enough players to suite your level (A,B,C,D,E). We also have enough ladies if you are into mixed double. :)
Oh, one last thing though, if you want to play with Fend, you have to fly to Perth. And beware he a Pro. :D
See you on the 23rd.

Hi Apollo
Fend and I met BadFever, Kim, Hagane and Maz during the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in March. Fend as Kevin has hinted hails from Perth and Maz is from Sydney. I am from Singapore.
So unless you visit Singapore, we may not be able to have a game together. But I'm sure Chris and his group will be most happy to have you join their very active, well-managed and up-and-coming club.
Hope to hear more from you or through Chris. :D

Hi Chris and everyone @CCC,
I just went to this new stringer to have my racquet restrung. My old stringer uses 2-piece stringing pattern (4 knots) but with the new stringer, he uses 1-piece (2 knots).
May I ask if anyone has any opinion on which one is better?? I know Yonex do recommend 2-piece (4 knots) stringing pattern and hence can have a different tension with main and cross. I've only played once after I have it restrung and can feel more vibration when I smash and my backhand's now gone flat. :(
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
I don't find any different in 2-piece and 1-piece stringing in terms of playability. If you read through the "Stringing" section of this forum, some people claimed that 2-piece will last longer. This, you have to experiment yourself cos my smash is not powerful enough to break any string at the moment, whether it's 1 or 2-piece. :D
However, I find that by increasing the tension, I can feel more vibration and I need more power to get the shuttle to the back of the court.

I guess this is all up to personal perference and might need to experiment a bit to see which one suits each individual. I did restrung my racquet with the same string and tension, only different stringer and method. I'll play with it more and tell you what I think.

I charge $25 for restringing. But if players provide their own string, I charge $20 for just the labour cost.
May be you are willing to charge less. Let our members know how/what you charge. May be you can get some customers from our CCC Badminton Club Membership.
Cheers... chris@ccc

Hi eveyone!!! ;)
After last few weeks of "torture"...
it finally ended this morning as I had my last exam paper. *relief*
and what follows after this = the 3-week HOLY-DAY for me (Holidays.. hehe):p
Although I only had 2 hours of sleep last night (for my last minute cramming for today's morning exam), I turned up tonight as I couldn't wait any longer to be jumping, hitting & moving again~ and it's just sssssssoooooooooo good to be back on the court!!! :)
I guess badminton is really a post-exam party for me... hehe...
Tonight was just another good night!!! Not only I had fun, but also watching the good players playing their singles are "inspiring"!!!
It was good to see people still managed to come in cold weather!!!

Hi Fuji & LilyC,
Yes, LD is still the Best.
For the Malaysian Open 2006, I was so happy for LCW beating LD. There were 2 reasons;
I was from Malaysia, so I was a bit biased.
I am usually for the underdog. So it was good for LCW to beat LD.
For the Chinese Taipei Open 2006, LD has proved to us that he is still the Best.
So, CONGRATULATIONS TO LIN DAN !!!.

Chris, are the shuttle you used on friday night (are they apac?) faster than the golden seal as well as epsilon?
Apology for giving out the wrong info on Stadium Sports. I just saw the sign on top of those shoes and got really excited!
Anyway, the Ar series that was on special should be AR 82 (the white shoe, right?). For some reason, the front side of the shoe get worn out within a month. When it come off, the top front part got paper in it!! If you come across Andy(the hong kong guy), ask him to take a picture of his shoe.
I bought that shoe from Xin (so did Andy), luckily i got a refund.
P.S Should have bought the shiny tour version of power cushion 99 instead of the normal version, so i could go clubbing with it. Wondering have any of you guys seen anybody wearing these in Melbourne for showoff?

Following are 2 things that are identified that needed to work on
- hitting too early on the shuttle while player(me) is in midflight
- move too early before the opposition player hit the shuttle
i think they are somehow related to the footwork

Hi hkhung,
Last Friday, we did not use apac shuttles. We used Sea Lion shuttles.
Anyway... even for different brands, you can get different speeds. The Sea Lion we used last Friday night were of Speed 78.
And last Wednesday, you forgot to bring the Coaching Worksheet again.
Please fill in the 2 chapters we did, 1.Singles High Service, and 2.Underarm Clears.
Also, I can't find your [IMG]files.
Please try sending your [IMG]files again. Can you send them as "LINKS"?

So, the sealion that were used last friday are the same ones you been using for a long time, right?

Hi Chris, just to let you know that I like the Sea Lion shuttles. They are very durable.
Hi BadFever,
Thank you for responding to our use of Sea Lion shuttles.
Personally, I like the Sea Lion shuttles too. I also think they are more duarable. And they are not too expensive.
CCC Club members have to remember:
Our club's charges are dependent on our club's expenses.
If we spend more on the use(ie, the quantities) and on the purchase cost for shuttles, then the cost will be passed on to the our members' session fees.
I always say that, at the end of your game(s), if the shuttle is still good, place that good shuttle under the net, in the middle of the court.
The next lot of players should warm up with older shuttles from the tray.
When they are ready to start their game, they should then use the shuttle that is placed under the net, in the middle of the court.
Any comments from other Club Members?
Cheers... chris@ccc

Hi DoublesPlease,
Thank you for your comments/suggestions for our club's shuttles usage/purchase.
Yes, we should look into it. And we will discuss more @Suppertime on this Friday.
We are still waiting for more comments/suggestions from our other Club Members.
May be, they are not reading our club's thread @Badminton Central, and hence not in touch with our Club's issues/discussions.

Hi ,
I visited stadium sport last weekend too. Thinking that SHB 68 cost $60, I asked for a discount from the price of $95 displayed. I got a $5 discount!
Sealion shuttle was very popular in Malaysia b4 Yang Yang etc etc came into the scene. We used Sealion most of the time and naturally have a liking for it too. It is getting expensive to play badminton because the cost of shuttles (good used old golf balls only cost $1 ea). Will try to remember to put old shuttle under the net as suggested.
Cheers

Hi everyone@ccc,
A Big Thank You to Badminton Central.
Today we have the 5000th viewer of our thread.
On 19-April-2006, I started this thread for our Club
On 27-June-2006, just a little over 2 months, we have the 5000th viewers.
When we first started, Helmut said to me;
“This is good, the viewer traffic at Badminton Central is good and heavy. and we should be able to inform many Badminton players about our Club”.
And through Badminton Central, we have informed and welcomed many players to our Club.
So, I want to thank Badminton Central for helping us to promote Badminton in Melbourne, Australia.

Hi hkhung,
Yes, confirming tonight, 28-Jun-2006 @7:30pm.

Juliana Pang was playing there with a friend.
Separately, Eric Lim was also playing there with another friend.

I don't think LCW has enough points to get to No 1 ranking. Due to his lost in the IO 2006, his rank has drop from No. 2 to No. 4. Also because PG and KJ played in the SO 2006.
Hi BadFever,
I checked the IBF World Ranking today(29-Jun-2006) and I found the following;
No.1 Peter Gade
No.2 Lee Chong Wei
No.3 Lin Dan
Go LCW... MALAYSIA BOLEH !!!

Here's a link for you from the Golden Melody Awards, on June 10th, 2006 at the Taipei Arena.

Related to JudyC ???
The Best Taiwanese-language Album award went to a regular winner, Judy Chiang.
Her album "The Fish that Loves Dreaming" is the latest of more than 40 released during her quarter-century music career.
And we have a Malaysian-born singer doing well over there too.
Best Newcomer award went to 28-year-old Malaysian-born Lin Yu-chung.
He also won the Best Crossover Album award with his first album, "1st."
Anyway, hope your Holidays going OK?

No change for LCW. He was No. 2 when using the old system. It seems that he is having difficulty moving up to No. 1 spot.
1500 points each separate the top three now, need to win a couple of 5* to 7* events to catch up. Not easy - provided injury to one of them.
The coming 7* world championship will give the winner abt 800 pts.
LCW can do it.
