I've tried contacting many ppl to get some details of any place where to play. But all were in vain. I used to play earlier at Pallavaram when I was staying there, but now it's not possible.

Anyway, just inform me if u get any details as to where to play. And of course, I would not be able to play shuttle without a partner !!

There are heaps of places to play in Chennai.

You can choose either Indra nagar or Gandhi Nagar Club if you stay in and around Adayar.

There a some clubs around Anna Nagar whose names i cannot recollect. But all you need to do is go watch a club tournament (Gandhi Nagar, MCC are the famouse ones) and you will find a club to your liking.

In and around Mount road is MCC. If you have the dough then you are most welcome there. As we all know it is a bit Snobbish and who is who of Chennai are members there.

Another baddy club is the MRC (race course club at gunidy) They have decent courts but the team was not so good a few years back. Things might have changed.

If you want to train and take up baddy seriously then contact Sanjay Sachdeva who teaches at stadium behind Central station and Corporation office. He also teaches at Egmore ???(near Shri Mithai- cant remember the name of the place but do know the location if i drive)

There is Punjab association club. They play on ok courts but have decent teams. They play at Royapettah- Its a famous girls school and the watchman is a grumpy old guy...

Well! Nice to know there are quite a few people in chennai. I too found a place, in adayar. for those who want to train, there is one group training with a Senthil Kumar in MGR Janaki Women's college. Coach is available on sat and sun mornings between 6 30 and 8 30... got all this info from the watchman; i haven't checked this out myself.

Indra Nagar club might be ok! They were 5k about 9 years ago...

indira nagar club is now 30K one time fee and then 200 a month for use of badminton facility alone. but you need an introduction from an existing member to join.

a good option are the courts within IIT - this is pay per use, but is always so crowded, even very late in the evening.

There was a good court at kotturpuram but now it is under renovation....The only place I can think of is my home..We have some space in the front...I think I will covert it into a court..:)...

Yes Kavya, You are correct. Gandhi Nagar club is not possible. I directly heard from them that they are accepting only Corporate Sponsors which is of 3 Lakhs. For this amount, we can buy a court itself :D

Is there any club in Indira Nagar? Heard such one but not sure. How about the surrounding areas like kottivakkam, Perungudi, etc?
I heard one about in Kanthasaavadi. But no idea where Kanthansavadi is :confused:.

The court is pretty good. There are two courts with concrete floor. It is usually windy only during summers. The winds stop during winter coz if it rains during the day time, ther will almost be no wind during late evenings . After a long time, there wasnt much wind yesterday . I think it wud be better if u come and check it out. Am afraid to say, U got to be lucky abt the wind factor. But i still think its worth a try coz i also enquired both gandhi nagar and indra nagar club. Membership in indra nagar club is closed for the time being coz ther is just one court. Very rarely do they give memberships now and tat too only if someone already playin there knows u . I tried getting place for around 4 but they offered only one :crying: .

Abt the membership details for the besant nagar court.

Regular membership - Rs.300 for timing (6 - 9 pm) and under good flood lights.
U could also go for the daily payment in case u r not going to come regularly. Its 25 bucks per day per person.

Probably this is old news,I remember that there are 2 indoor badminton courts in YMCA Nandanam where you can become a member and play. You can call the YMCA center and they give enough details.

For all those near RA puram, there is an open baddy court in Ransa club in RA puram.

I dont live in Chennai anymore, probably my news is old. But still wanted to share info I have.

i used to play at the towers club in annanagar, next to the angr twr park. used to b members only but i understand that they have palying mbrships.

was a pretty decent facility with2 indoor wooden courts, best time to play was b/w 4pm to 6.30pm, after that the courts get hoarded by players of the club team.

also there used to be a badminton court at the angr club down the road, a 2 minute walk from towers club.

hv also played at YMCA vepery(this is 4-5 yrs back) , gud time used to b b/w 7 am to 9am

I recently returned from a trip to India. while we were there, we went to play badminton at a club (don't remember the name, but it had a horse racing section). while we were there, we noticed that people were extremely hostile towards any newcomers, one guy who was there on his own finally told us the rules. we got onto the court, and people were standing right on the edge of the court, counting our score and waiting for us to finish. which was okay, but the next time we tried to get on the court, one group who had just gotten off the next court also tried to get on. we had to argue with them to get our turn, and they were making fun of they way we were playing (one of our group is a tennis player). we finally got them off the court and played our game. after this we talked to the guy on his own, and he told us that the members really dislike newcomers, and that he had been there for 3.5 hours and only gotten on the court once! he told us that they try to bully new people away so they don't interfere with the "good" players court time

a lot of this is to be seen at every club, but generally club members just ignore new people, they are not openly hostile to them. We were there with 4 people so we were not asking anyone to play or anything, This club was very elitist and arrogant, at least it seemed that way to us. we won't be going back there, that's for sure!

I hope the rest of you have better experiences playing in Chennai than we have, like I said I hope it was just this club's members, not a general attitude.

What do you expect from the elitist of MRC (madras race club). I remember how some members from our club clobbered them. Now they have started using some good players who were ex state i guess.

If you want decent games and you are a beginner then please dont go to snobbish clubs clike MRC or MCC.

I guess you should have done your homework. If you are not famous or great with baddy then dont expect any respect in these clubs. I guess that is how the world tends to operate now a days (atleast in india).

Hi guys, I went to enquire at the indira nagar sports club a few days back. This is what I found out. At present they offer only a lifetime membership which is a whopping 30k bucks! not to include the extra 200 bucks you have to pay every month. How I wish they had at least an annual membership! The manager said that there were some new courts being constructed and they should be ready by sep-oct. Maybe they'll introduce an annual membership then.

Till then I don't know where to play. Can anyone please suggest an indoor court somewhere in the vicinity of Indira Nagar/ Adyar/ Thiruvanmiyur? Sandhya what news have you got?

Mr. Sanjeev used to coach at University union stadium(nr spur tank road, behind Palimar Hotel). Now, that place seemed to be closed. no clue on where he is now. He is a pretty good coach, developed a lot of young talent in TN Badminton for many years...

Fireball Fitness Club is certainly one of the better badminton courts in the city. Its less 1/2 km from MMM hospital. A-2, Valayapathy Road, Maogappair East. Ph.No. 044-26562234. They charge Rs.3000 for 3 months. you get a 1 hr slot per day depending on the time you prefer. Please check it out, its very good.

Hi guys, I went to enquire at the indira nagar sports club a few days back. This is what I found out. At present they offer only a lifetime membership which is a whopping 30k bucks! not to include the extra 200 bucks you have to pay every month. How I wish they had at least an annual membership! The manager said that there were some new courts being constructed and they should be ready by sep-oct. Maybe they'll introduce an annual membership then.

Till then I don't know where to play. Can anyone please suggest an indoor court somewhere in the vicinity of Indira Nagar/ Adyar/ Thiruvanmiyur? Sandhya what news have you got?

There is a sports club near arumbakkam, in 100 ft road towards koyambedu. Badminton courts are available there.

The fee is like 1500 rs per month.

If you are a permanent resident of chennai, you can consider joining in membership which costs 15000 rs per year, where in u can avail all the facilities like swimming pool, badminton court, tennis court, billiards etc.

I play in Indiranagar indoor. It is crowded in mornings and no memberships are given for morning slots. There are a few places vacant for evening & there are good players in evening batch.

If you are near santhome, the best place to settle down for badminton in MGR Janaki College Courts at Adayar. They allow members on yearly membership in the evenings and weekends.

Kalakshetre Badminton Academy (KBA) under the auspicies of KCWA is organizing its 2nd KCWA trophy at its grounds at Rukmani Road, Kalakshetra Colony, Besant Nagar between the 5th and the 7th of March.

Its strictly a non-medalist tourney. Current and past ranked players are requested not to send in your entries. When we say Past Ranking Player we mean that either of the players should not have held a rank after 2002.


Matches in Evenings from 6.00pm to 10.30pm
Rally points rule to be followed. (30 Points)
Single game and knockout basis
Only doubles matches to be held.
Yonex Mavis 350 shuttle will be used.
Referree’s decision is final.
Teams should arrive 30 mins before match starts.
Photo id proof Xerox copies should be attached with Entry forms by both players of a team.
Organizers reserve the right to disqualify any team if any player is proved to be a ranked player.
If disqualified, then entry fee will not be refunded.Last date for entries 28th February 2010

There are 3 clubs where u get good play.. One is located in Mogappair (Fire Ball), next is YMCA (Kilpauk) & last one is near MMDA (League Club).. I hope this will help u all guys

The Transformers gym charges 75 bucks per hour, I am not sure if there is any facility of a membership.

I am Mahesh and I live in Madipakkam. I used to play for Guru Nanak Bhavan Badminton Club and later Kottur Gardens Badminton Club. Due to a shoulder injury I stopped playing about 5 years back. I am working towards getting back to playing.

The reason why I joined this forum is to let know all badminton lovers that there is going to be a new badminton court that's going to come up very soon (mid August) near Velachery.

My friend is building a sports complex near Velachery MRTS railway station (2 kms from Velachery) on the Madipakkam-Velacherry main road near Kaivalie. The sports complex will have two indoor wooden badminton cours (36 feet high), 2 tennis clay courts, 2 cricket nets, a fully functional fitness center with sports related fitness professionals, and lot of other sports related activities.

This is Dinesh here, We play at Annanagar Tower park on weekends....since u asked about the details..iam messaging u...some people build their own courts here...and some our open to all..first come first serve..basis...so nothing much ...some time its the wind factor but our game will be interesting...we r upto 8 guys and a girl...who is not turning up nowwadays.(preg) ..we play on sat eve and sunday morning at 9 to 2pm...bit long...we planned to play at 6:30am but we couldnt get the court all r busy....so thats it about annanagar park court hope u have an idea now....we have to bring our own rockets ,net etc...nothing will be provided by the park assoc'n ...ok thats it take care.....
