It will be the first time since 1989 an Asian country hosts a badminton World Championships following the successful bid of Kuala Lumpur, becoming new headquarter of the IBF in October this year.
Europe has been hosting the world championships since 1989 until the 2005 version was awarded to California, United States (http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/data/usa.html).
The new IBF council also decided that Incheon of South Korea will play host to the 2006 junior world championships.
The IBF held the annual general meeting here Sunday morning, naming Punch Gunalan from Malaysia deputy presient and selecting six vice presidents as well as 17 council members.
The newly elected IBF officials will preside over the Sudirman Cup, to be held here through May 10 to 15.

What could be better than getting an all expenses paid trip to Malaysia for two weeks of top-notch badminton and roti canai and kopi es susu for breakfast! I'd best brush up on my Bahasa Melayu and my Korean, slim though the chances may be.

Maybe kwun and Cheung can meet again in KL instead of Hongkong and many other BFers from Malaysia, Singapore and elsewhere will also not want to miss this rare opportunity. BadMania should return to this region again (after the Aviva Singapore Open 2007?) and I won't want to miss the fun too! Can this be just a dream? :D

Already saving money, scheduling my life for next year's WC, omg what else? Oh yeah, next weekend i'm gonna drive from my University to Bukit Jalil (Putra Stadium) just to check out the route, wanna find short cuts and then can practice so that i know where to head from my University :p

Hosting in Asia for the first time in 18 years (since Jakarta in '89) is indeed a milestone, especially for a sport the competition medals and viewership of which are dominated by Asia.

Not to worry. The Satellite is only meant for up-and-coming players not the established ones. But I will have a chance to see what Asia has to offer in time to come.

Unfortunately I can't make it to HK this year and probably next year many of us will converge in KL for the WC 2007. With Jacklyn's open house yummy invitation, not even BadFever from down under can resist. (But I don't know how many BFers can Jac's house take at one sitting and whether the grounds are large enough for garden badminton? Maybe a B-B-Q is better as an informal setting for BFers to move about and chit chat!) :D

hehe, actually we've already kind of mentioned this abt a month or so ago, and looks like the interest list is growing..Other than our local M'sia BC "host"(wink, wink, ahem ahem);) :D , we will also be expecting some other visitors from the neighboring countries(ie. S'pore, Phillipines, Indonesia, Thailand maybe even Australia and NZ)...hopefully it will be a "big" BC gathering..:) :cool:

Yes is very near to a train Station (Star LRT- Bukit Jalil)
Is just a few minutes walking distance from the LRT station.

Good to know that the stadium is near the Star Line. Where is Bukit Jalil anyway? Will the games be at night? If I go, I may need to rent a car and I really do not want to drive in Kuala Lumpur. People drive on the wrong side :crying: of road and drivers do not follow the road rules :crying: .

Me too...I am having SPM in next year...Its really a very very important exam...So...I probaly can't see the world championship...so sad..

Normally SPM exam is in November n the championship wil hold in August or September!U wil hav chance to watch it!!:o

Yup, but if I want to go to the WC, I have to plan now. I am sure that the stands will not be as empty as Madrid. This is especially the case of Malaysia has players in the later rounds.

But World Championship is in the month of July. PMR not that early, right. Study before World Championship begin then u can go and watch KKK in action. ;) ;) ;)
