There was a live interview with Lin Dan on CCTV last sunday. It was quite a long interview. Unfortunately, I did not see the interview. Some interesting bits from those who saw the interview :
1. LD loves to write letters, especially to his mother, which he does almost daily.
2. His girl friend likes LD's macho personality and his ability to deliver what he promises. His weakness is his impatience.
3. Taufik is a player he admires. Taufik is regarded by the Chinese as a badminton prodigy.
4. LD's greatest disappointment was his loss to PG in the 2002 Thomas Cup in Guanzhou, and he was especially upset when PG knelt down with arms outstretched in a "V" after PG won. LD defeated PG in the 2004 Thomas Cup in Jarkata, and it was sweet revenge for him to knee down with outstretched "V" arms at the end of the match, the way PG did in 2002.
5. After winning the recent World Championship, he received a personal letter from Taufik, challenging him to a return match, to which LD accepted. Should they meet in the Japan Open, it will be a fight between two greats.
6. LD was dropped from the Army team at one time and was very hurt. When told that the reason he was dropped was a discipline issue, he reformed and was accepted back into the Army team.
7. As a youngster, he was a cry-baby who would cry everytime he lost a match.
8. LD says that the pressure to perform is very great, from both other top international players and from within China.

hmmm, didn't we hear this from Taufik before during the Thomas Cup recently, although not thru a personal letter??..Did Taufik forgot all abt what he said in the interview??..How will Taufik be able to fulfill his words to meet and play against LD again if he never prepare himself??..Or did Taufik purposely waited for LD to win become the World Champion and then he'll be up to play against him??..:confused: :rolleyes: :p ;)

if LD meet TH again, i bet on LD. LD is more mentally controlled now because he had experienced being a total bomb before (2004 athen, 05 WC). His past progress (reform to join back to the army team and getting pass his cry baby phase) prove that he can overcome his once weakness. Plus that TH conceded in HKO, LD no longer fear TH as once before. If LD play his normal game without his past ghost fearing flashback against TH, i think LD can handle TH. In the past 1 year, i saw LD became a more patience player as well.

i live in surabaya. i love to play badminton. i have some friend join the badminton club, for practice badminton intensively. this badminton club prepare the player to be a champion. like taufik hidayat. In this badminton club, the player live in the badminton club.i mean the club provide the bedroom. like a badminton camp. everyday they practice badminton, they don't go to school. they practice 7.00 am till 10.00 am. and then they have a break, for take a nap. they start to practice again at 4.00pm till 7.00pm. after practice they go to sleep, or watching TV. i'm 21 years old now. when i was 17 years old, i joined that badminton club. i don't need go to school, just play the sport i love,everyday.i have praticed in that club for 1 years. when i 18 years old,i study in high school. my parents ask me to leave that club, they force me to go to school. badminton just for fun. they don't want i be a champion. they prefer i be a educated person.
mostly of my friend in badminton club, not from a rich family. they poor, but they good in badminton for national level. for international, forget it, because mostly they not enough in height. specially for ladies players, they're very short.
i just feel sorry for them, because they don't have any skill in education. almost of them can't apply a job. because they aren't educated.
like TRIKUS HARYANTO who partner with minarti timur, he was a champion too. before he be a champion, he is training in badminton club, that i told you. i think he's not good in education too.
when he isn't a champion anymore. he dropped out from TRAINING CENTER in jakarta. we call PELATNAS. now, he work as a coach for national club. i think he salary not much as he was a champion. i think, all of badminton players in indonesia, is dumb, stupid. i am sure for that because, i know, they daily activity. because i was part of them.
i know that's not my problem. but, i just want to know. Was china badminton federation do the same thing? all of china player don't go to school. they just know, how to play badminton. but they don't know how to survive after that.

Lin Dan himself is for sure Hakka, although he comes from Fujian Province. I doubt that he knows Hokkien dialect (one of the many dialects in Fujian Province). Yeah, XXF is of course Cantonese.

Isn't it in the west, rubbing someone's head is being friendly but in the east, it is rude? At least as a malaysian chinese, I'm taught not to touch the head of elders but it is ok towards a child..

Peter Gade, then 26, had won the first game.
Lin Dan, then just 20, roared back to win the next two games.
As they shook hands, Gade patted the new champion on the head.
It was a very civil and spontaneous gesture :)

who can believe its hard to find a LD thread

yesterday i found at last one of the matches LD LOST :)

it was Malasya Open with of course LCW

it was very strange for me suddenly to see LCW looking really dangerous, attacking from every side, playing smart, many net points..
all their matches I saw LCW was principally another player in this match
certainly the score was very tough

but I didn't like LD 's behaviour at the end - obviously every one can be destroyed after missing 7 straight match points and losing finally - but LD even didn't shake a hand to LCW running away the court.. seems strange to him, he is looking very stable all the times.. or this because he loses a match..

you'll realize that Lin Dan did indeed go up to the net to shake LCW's hand, except LCW was prostrate on the court in happiness and never got up until much later.
But the racquet-kicking and hat-refusing wasn't very nice lol

hmmm, how many china master and china open did lcw had won?
btw, why does he has to wear that hat? It is his, he can do whatever he want to it. maybe lcw should kick his racket too to get as many sponsors as like LD:rolleyes:
