There's some people said that CCM had been ignored, i felt that too!! That's why i open a new thread here!!!:)

No doubt, Chan Choong Ming is one of the most best double player in Malaysia Team. He had skills and also experience. For me, i love his smash very much. His is and handsome and man when he is playing badminton.;)

Anyone who love or support CCM can leave a message here. Picture of CCM is most needed.:D

Finally someone started this thread about CCM!! Some information: (you may probably know it already)

- Won a national award : 1992 MILO-OCM-MSSM JUNIOR OLYMPION AWARD
- 1996 Asian Junior Champion, partnering Teo Kok Seng
- 3 World Junior Titles , one partnering Teo Kok Seng, one with Jeremy Gan (both MD titles for 2 different championships), in MXD, he also won a title with Joanne Quay

that's an incredible junior achievement but his senior years were only ok-ish :|

His partnership with Chew Choon Eng was formed under Park Joo Bong and their breakthrough was defeating Kim Dong Moon - Ha Tae Kwon in the 2001 Malaysian Open. Since then, their performance was up another level but always had difficulty to beat especially Indonesian top players.

However,CCM - CCE partnership was going downhill ever since CCM had a shoulder injury at the end of 2003 and they were then defeated by Sang Yang - Zheng Bo in the Athens 2004 in some early rounds.

then, Kim Hock took over and paired CCM with KKK =)

What will happen to him if Kim Hock split them to pair KKK with Boon Heong? Gee...He may be floating around like Choon Eng without a partner :|

- an ambidextrous (holds the racket with his left, writes with his right)

- an ambidextrous (holds the racket with his left, writes with his right)

During the old days, grandparents prevented their grandchildren for writing with the left hands. According to them, it's a bad sign. Hence they are forced to write against their left-handedness inborn ability. This is true for one of my friends. Write on right, but do all other stuffs using left hand.

Ancient chinese people follows too many beliefs. :o

He is one of my fav Mas players!! I hope Yap Kim Hock won't break up CCM/KKK n leave CCM hanging around like Chew Chun Eng...He is still reasonably young and should be able to play at the top level for at least 3-4 years if his shoulder injury doesnt aggravate... I've seen him several times in Msia Open, Sg Open and CG..he's always smiling..a friendly and nice person :)

The Star newspaper once covered a loooonnng, looonnngg article on badminton attire (25 Sept 2005), and they quoted Chong Ming :

"Give me a netted T-shirt and headband and I'll wear it. Image is a big confidence booster"

Ya! I hope so!
He's really is a good player no matter paired with CCM or KKK. But now he had show the best result by paired with KKK, so i hope Yap Kim Hock will let them to keep on fighting for Malaysia. Chan Chong Ming & KKK are the best man double for Malaysia after CTF & LWW.
Eem......for me, he's best in smashing!:D

yeah, chan chong ming shines pairing with koo kien keat (while kkk burns things into ashes):p ...

That's a wonderful combination of koo kien keat's aggressive attacks n chan chong ming's defensive n stabilize skills...

It's probably my favourite doubles pair ever...

They always get things into the edges... excited n breathtaking.. They brought the match point up to 30 during a match with denmark in Thomas Cup this year... It's just unbelievable... They will never give up... It's the thing I like the most

CCM is generally all rounded...but i think he is a bit too short...he will be stronger if he is a lil taller...

yup,he is a bit short......how tall is he? 170cm? he is 1 of the potential double player in m'sia team, but after injury i think he not smash stronger than b4,although like tat but now he is quite good also.n the 1 thing i like him is smiling always..........makes me feel he is a nice person........haha

Lin Woon Fui is also short. But he is fast on court. I don't think height is a major factor in doubles. It can be a disadvantage as well as advantage. It depends on how you see it. So far CCM is doing well.

hara^kazuko
05-30-2006, 08:53 AM
height isnt really dat important... chong ming is just 10cm shorter than kean keat and it wouldn't make a big difference in doubles... from wat i see, chong ming is a constant smasher compares to kean keat...

If CCM is such a good player, I believe he and KKK should have won many titles this year. Well, KKK/TBH won runner-up at JO2006 and gold at Doha game immediately after the split with CCM.
Is it because of his shoulder injury?

http://www.thestar.com.my/sports/story.asp?file=/2006/12/21/sports/16378753&sec=sports

KUALA LUMPUR: Senior shuttler Chan Chong Ming was bitterly disappointed with the decision to end his partnership with Koo Kien Keat.

But the 26-year-old has snapped out of the sad episode of his badminton career and is determined to bring his new partnership with junior Hoon Thien How to greater heights.

Yesterday, Chong Ming and his 20-year-old partner got off to a winning start in their first tournament together – the Kuala Lumpur Open – at the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium (KLBA) in Cheras.

They defeated Johor juniors Poh Chai Boon-Vincent Soon 21-12, 21-8 to set up a quarter-final match today against veterans and top seeds Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah.

After having teamed up with Kien Keat for two years, Chong Ming said that the split was a bitter pill to swallow.

“But it is the coaches’ decision and I have to accept it. I chose not to quit even though I was disappointed,” said Chong Ming.

Kien Keat paired up with Tan Boon Heong prior to the recent Asian Games in Doha and they went on to become the first Malaysians in 36 years to win gold in the series.

Boon Heong was the former partner of Thien How. They won the World Juniors in Vancouver in 2004 and also chalked up a famous win over Indonesia’s former world champions Candra Wijaya-Sigit Budiarto en route to a runners-up finish in the Asian Championships in April this year.

Chong Ming said that he would again assume the role of guiding Thien How as he did with Kien Keat when they started out together.

“I had the responsibility to help Kien Keat when we teamed up two years ago. It’s good to see that he is doing well now,” he said.

“I have the same role to play partnering Thien How and it will be too early to expect anything outstanding from us next year. Hopefully, we will get stronger with each tournament.”

Thien How said that he experienced a similar feeling as Chong Ming when he had to part company with Boon Heong.

“With Boon Heong, we achieved good results and it hurt when I was told that we had to go separate ways,” he said.

“Now I have an experienced partner and I hope to learn as much as possible from him. Hopefully, we can achieve great things together. It is our wish to become another strong pair for the country.”

Without a world ranking, Chong Ming-Thien How are now the sixth ranked pair in the national team behind Tan Fook-Wan Wah, Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari-Lin Woon Fui, Gan Teik Chai-Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif, Kien Keat-Boon Heong and Ong Soon Hock-Tan Bin Shen.

Yesterday, all the national doubles pairs won their second round matches.

But Fairuzizuan-Woon Fui survived a scare to advance to the quarter-finals with a 21-19, 22-24, 21-16 win over Chang Hun Pin-Chan Peng Soong of Penang.

Is it because of his shoulder injury? I reckon CCM is too playful on court, you noticed KKK is so focused nowadays, compared to when partnering CCM, they used to play alot of mind game, laugh and shout on court.. not serious enough.. probably the coach doesn't like that and decide to split b4 KKK miss his chances for great achievements

KUALA LUMPUR: The new men's doubles pairing of Chan Chong Ming-Hoon Thien How ensured themselves a merry Christmas yesterday when they capped a smashing run with an upset win over more illustrious teammates Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari-Lin Woon Fui to win the Kuala Lumpur Open title at the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium yesterday.
Chong Ming-Thien How came from behind to beat Fairuzizuan-Woon Fui 22-20 in the first game
Although Fairuzizuan-Woon Fui came back strongly in the late stages of the second game, Chong Ming-Thien How hung on to win 22-20 for their first victory in the local circuit.
In the men's singles final, Mohd Hafiz Hashim failed in his bid to end Lee Chong Wei's three-year unbeaten streak.
Chong Wei, who has not been beaten in the local circuit since 2003, took just 35 minutes to beat Hafiz 21-15, 21-18 to win his first local title of the year.
Chong Wei did not compete in the first leg in Malacca earlier in the year because he had to take part in international tournaments to maintain his world rankings before the World Championships in Madrid in September.
While Chong Wei lived up to his top billing, it was Chong Ming-Thien How who stole the show.
They edged top seeds and veterans Lee Wan Wah-Choong Tan Fook in three games in the quarter-finals before yesterday's win over their rivals, who had just returned from the Asian Games.
At the semi-finals stage, Fairuzizuan-Woon Fui had beaten Asian Games champions Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong.
The maiden win yesterday was doubly joyful for Thien How, who turns 20 today. Chong Ming and Thien How each pocketed RM3,000 for their efforts.
Chong Ming said they had been hugely motivated for the final.
“We had more desire to win as Fairuzizuan-Woon Fui are the national champions.
“This is our first victory since we were paired off with each other last month. Our hope now is to continue improving and qualify for the World Championships to be held in Kuala Lumpur next year,” said Chong Ming.
Thien How had been Boon Heong's partner when the pair won the world junior title in 2004.
Chong Ming's two-year partnership with Kien Keat ended when he was left out of the squad to the Asian Games in Doha. Kien Keat and Boon Heong went on to end a 36-year Asian Games drought for Malaysia when they took the men's doubles gold in Doha.
For Chong Wei, it was a hard earned win.
“Hafiz and I are not in the best of conditions because we have just come back from the Asian Games.
“But I was determined not to lose this match. I wanted to keep my unbeaten record in the local circuit,” said Chong Wei, who received a winner's cheque of RM4,000. (Original article from www.bam.org.my (http://www.bam.org.my))

Chan takes time-out
By RAJES PAUL

KUALA LUMPUR: Doubles shuttler Chan Chong Ming has decided to quit the national team after a successful 14-year journey with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

The 27-year-old Chong Ming announced yesterday that it was time for him to stop donning national colours in international tournaments and he would serve out his contract with the BAM, which expires on Nov 30, as a sparring partner for the national team.

He added that he had handed letters of resignation to national chief coach Yap Kim Hock and doubles coach Rexy Mainaky and would submit a copy to BAM general manager Kenny Goh today.

Chong Ming has not decided on his future but said that it would certainly be related to the sport.

“Badminton is in my blood and I just can't run away from it. But I cannot deny that my time with the national team is up,” he said after a training session at the Gymnasium II in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

“It was a hard decision for me to make. It actually took me great courage to sign the resignation letters. I felt sad after that.

“But I have been contemplating on this (to quit) for the last two months. Nowadays, my body cannot take the tough training sessions and I am always nursing some minor injuries. I am not consistent in training and that is frustrating. (By staying in the team) I am certainly not being fair to my partner.”

With Chong Ming's decision to leave the team, the coaches will have to find a new partner for Hoon Thien How.

Thien How is Chong Ming's fourth regular partner since he joined the BAM camp as a junior player at their Academy in 1993. His other partners were Jeremy Gan, Chew Choon Eng and Koo Kien Keat.

On who formed the best partnership with him, Chong Ming said: “It was special with each one of them. I had good memories with all of them.”

He spoke highly of his three memorable outings – at the 2002 and 2006 Commonwealth Games in which he won the gold medal partnering Choon Eng and Kien Keat in Manchester and Melbourne respectively and the 2006 Thomas Cup Finals in Japan.

In Japan, Chong Ming-Kien Keat put up a titanic battle against Denmark's Jens Eriksen-Martin Lundgaard Hansen in a semi-final tie. They won the match but Malaysia bowed out 2-3.

There have been disappointments too for Chong Ming, especially after suffering a shoulder injury in 2003 that almost ended his career.

“It took me three months to recover but I was never completely healed from it. I suffered pains on and off. Of course, it would have been great for me if I had won at the world championships or the Olympics. They were my only regrets.”

He has bronze medals to show from the world championships, partnering Choon Eng in 2001 and Kien Keat in 2005.

Chong Ming paid special tribute to Rexy.

“Rexy may be emotional at times but he really cares for his players. He has really done a great job with our doubles players. I am happy to quit because Rexy has groomed several good back-up players for the future,” he said.

“I would also like to thank my family and my girlfriend (Janice Lee), who were there for me during my ups and downs.

Chong Ming, who plans to settle down next year, also took his hats off to the BAM and the National Sports Council (NSC).

“I have to thank the BAM for keeping me under their banner for so long. The NSC, too, have been supportive. I know in my heart that I have given my very best to the country on every occasion. My only hope is that the BAM and NSC will continue to look after the welfare of players,” he added

Rexy wants Chong Ming as sparring partner

PETALING JAYA: Doubles coach Rexy Mainaky hopes that Chan Chong Ming will stay on as a sparring partner to boost the standard of the younger players in the national team.

Rexy said yesterday that Chong Ming's decision to quit came as a surprise.

“This is disappointing news for our men's doubles. He is quite a good player and he still has a future in the game. Maybe, he thinks he cannot go far anymore,” said Rexy.

“He did tell me that he wanted to slow down ... wanted to relax and enjoy playing badminton. He did not want to shoulder too much pressure.”

Rexy hoped that BAM general manager Kenny Goh and chief coach Yap Kim Hock would be able to convince Chong Ming to be a sparring partner after his contract expires at the end of next month.

“Other players still look up to him. If Chong Ming is keen to help it will be great for the players, especially the younger one,” he said.

Chong Ming's decision to quit the national team reduced the fight for two places to the China Open (Nov 20-25) and Hong Kong Open (Nov 27-Dec 2) to three pairs – Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari-Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif, Gan Teik Chai-Lin Woon Fui and Tan Bin Shen-Ong Soon Hock.

Yesterday, Bin Shen-Soon Hock defeated Teik Chai-Woon Fui 21-11, 22-20 in the selection trials to decide which pairs will be sent. Fairuzizuan-Zakry will stake their claim today against Bin Shen-Soon Hock and Teik Chai-Woon Fui.

The top two national pairs – Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong (world No. 1) and Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah (No. 6) – are assured of their entries.

At 27 and basically heading nowhere in his badminton career, I would say it is indeed a wise choice by CCM. With him gone, at least there will be another youngster be given the chance to take his place. And CCM can move on and do other things for his own career.

Hafiz should also do a CCM and quit as well.

Hey, dude, just in case you are unaware, this is Malaysia la. ;)
And HH is not the only one still 'being there'. Let me give you another example of 'still being there';

In Football, the Sultan of Pahang is still the FAM President despite numerous major failures over the decades.

This is the disease of Malaysia Boleh.

But you are right about HH. The boy should not be around, and the fact that he is around tells me the set up in BAM is not right.

I think among all the Malaysian elite double players, Choon Ming is the most unfortunate one!! I recall Choon Ming stormed into badminton scene after winning the World Junior title with full potential to be the next super star after Cheah Soon Kit. Thing spiral downhill after he sustained shoulder injury and was never fully recover after the surgery.
I think Choon Ming make the right decision of leaving BAM and he should be very proud of himself as he gave all he had to BAM and has been such a good solder. We usually think Malaysia players are spoiled but certainly not Choon Ming and he said all the right things even he's leaving, what a classy player.
I am sure Choon Ming will end up playing with private club and I wish him the best and certainly will continue to support and cheer for him.
Take care Choon Ming.

A big blow to CCM partner, HTH...
BAM planed to pair him up with Chang Hung Pin. Hopes it works.
IMHO, Chan Peng Soon should forged a new partnership with Khoo Chung Chiat.. A new Khoo-Chan in the making:eek:

I just found out about CCM's retirement a few days ago.
Sigh.
He is one of my favourite players.
I still remember seeing him winning the MD and team gold medals
in the Commonwealth Games in Melb last year.
All the best to you, Chong Ming!
We will always remember you and thank you for your
service to Malaysia for so long! :)

Too bad, he'll make a good coach for the juniors. Anyway, he can change his mind later.
