View Full Version : Gunawan/Wijaya & Budiarto/Limpele in IO
Sergio 05-28-2006, 01:45 AM I dont know about you guys but it seem really awesome to see these guys play especially the Olympic Champs! I just want to here what you guys think about these pairings??? I didnt see Wijaya at OCBC with Tony, makes me wonder if these guys still have that "communication" on the court. As for Limpele and Budiarto i have to clue in how they will perform. What do you guys say???
DinkAlot 05-28-2006, 04:12 AM I say, "Tony and Candra, jia you!" :D :D
Viper2005 05-28-2006, 10:48 AM Hey, I noticed in the draw sheet, they have them listed as Gunawan (USA) & Wijaya (USA).....that is so wrong. Candra can't represent USA yet. His countrymen are going to be so pissed off if he wins for USA.
Wildstone 05-28-2006, 11:45 AM Nop it said Gunawan(USA) & WIJIYA (IND)
Quasimodo 05-28-2006, 12:34 PM Candra plays for India now? :D :)
ricksakti 05-29-2006, 02:42 AM NOnonono... Gunawan(usa) and Wijaya (INA)...

zzz... 05-29-2006, 10:46 AM Strange  , in the schedule, it indicates WIJIYA, as a US player. But really hope they will win it.

Does it really matter so much which flag they are using?

If things go according to plan, they should meet in the semi-final.
ArmotecDude 06-02-2006, 10:12 AM I may be wrong, but doesn't Tony have dual citizenship? I'd love to see this pair play again. Watching them play in the late 90's was amazing.
Has Sigit ever played w/ Tony? That would be something...:D

Sigit will never be paired with Tony since they all have the same style (front attacker).
2cents 06-02-2006, 03:56 PM Tony Gunawan (USA)/Candra Wijaya (USA) sounds good.
USA/INA doesn't make sense, unless they play in single event as two different clubs.
On the other hand, USA deserves a pair of players because it's a country no one can ignore.
It would be too selfish if INA against USA/USA. There are a lot of double players eager to play in INA, while USA doesn't have any.

How is that is Indonesia's fault that it has many top players? It is no one's fault but ours since we as Americans are ignorant and still consider badminton like this as non-skillful and sissy sport. Until we recognize that badminton is a sport that requires great skills, we will always fall behind all other countries.
We were lucky enough to have some ex-professional players such as Tony Gunawan, Halim Heriyanto, and many others to come and help develop our level. I am always greatful for those people as they have and continue to help develop US badminton.
ctjcad 06-03-2006, 02:03 AM I may be wrong, but doesn't Tony have dual citizenship?
Hmm, just for some info...It's actually "illegal" for an Indonesian citizen to have dual citizenship...Their "law" said, an Indonesian citizen won't be allowed to continue or extend their passport if they have applied for another citizenship, esp. if that person is trying to apply for an American citizenship..But of course, it's an Indonesian "law" and anything is possible...hehe:rolleyes:
I know quite a lot of Indonesian passport-owner which have dual passports/citizenships, with an American citizenship, but not revealing it...But i guess, as long as one doesn't reveal it to the Indonesian govt./consulate, i guess it's no problemo...
