Here's some interesting matches for tomorrow. I might show up at the Indoor Stadium after I am done with my work.

MEN'S SINGLES (starting at 11:20am) -- quite a number of good matches in store for the opening round tomorrow morning.

Sho Sasaki vs Roman Spitko -- a tough match for both players.

Chen Yu vs Tommy Sugiarto -- a good experience for Tommy to play against an upcoming Chinese player. It will be a huge upset if Tommy can beat Chen Yu.

Kuan Beng Hong vs Ronald Susilo (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- Ronald's comeback match in his home grand prix and its against Kuan, whose confidence must be at the lowest level. I think Ronald can win.

Przemyslaw Wacha vs Nguyen Tien Minh -- despite being seeded 14th, I think the Polish will lose to the fast-improving Tien-Minh.

Chin Sheng-Ming vs Kendrick Lee Yen Hui -- another local favorite..and I believe Kendrick should not have a problem.

Markus Wijanu vs Law Yew Thien -- this will be the Indonesian's last grand prix after it has been confirmed that he will be leaving the Pelatnas. Can he win tomorrow?

Simon Santoso vs Kasper Oedum -- another candidate for match of the round. I believe Simon should not have a problem. His confidence is pretty high right now after nearly beating Bao Chunlai last Friday.

Qiu Yanbo vs Mohd Hafiz Hashim -- Qiu was extremely lucky to be in the semi-final of the Indonesia Open last week. It will be a disaster if Hafiz lost to him in the first round tomorrow.

MEN'S DOUBLES (starting from 6:40pm -- I might watch these matches)
Jens Eriksen/Martin Lundgaard Hansen vs Tan Bin Shen/Ong Soon Hock -- it has been a long time since the young Malaysian pair plays. The Danes should be too strong for them.

Hwang Ji Man/Jung Tae Kuk vs Rian Sukmawan/Eng Hian (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- the Indonesian pair yet again face tough opponents in their first match. I think the young Korean pair will win.

Zheng Bo/Gong Weijie vs Keita Masuda/Tadashi Ohtsuka -- the Chinese pair to prevail.

Hendry Saputra Kurnaiwan/Hendra Wijaya vs Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan -- the young Indonesian pair should not have a problem.

WOMEN'S DOUBLES (starting from 4:40pm)
Chien Yu-Chin/Cheng Wen-Hsing vs Jiang Yanmei/Li Yujia (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- the Chinese Taipei pair to win!

Hwang Yu Mi/Kim Min Jung vs Saina Nehwal/Ruth Misha

Shinta Mulya Sari/Vanessa Neo Yu Yan vs Wong Pei-Tty/Chin Ee Hui

Fu Mingtian/Yao Lei vs Paula Chan/Therine Thristie Chan -- Fu/Yao might possibly be Singapore's only WD representative in Round 1/16 on Thursday.

MIXED DOUBLES (starting from 9am)
Zheng Bo/Zhao Tingting vs Anggun Nugroho/Vita Marissa -- if the match still proceeds, the Chinese pair should win.

Tri Kusharyanto/Minarti Timur vs Hendry Saputra Kurniawan/Li Yujia -- surprisingly, its the veteran's 3rd tournaments in a row. Can they create another upset?

Hendra Wijaya/Frances Liu Fan vs Peter Steffensen/Lenna Frier Kristensen

Koo Kien Keat/Wong Pei-Tty vs Anthony Clark/Donna Kellogg (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- I have a feeling the Malaysian pair will win tomorrow despite their long absence.

Robert Mateusiak/Nadiezda Kostiuczyk vs Tsai Chia-Hsin/Cheng Wen-Hsing

Hwang Ji Man/Kim Min Jung vs Thomas Laybourn/Kamilla Rytter-Juhl

So have you decided to spend some morning time to watch the proceedings?
Anyway, I aim to be there, Taufik or no Taufik! Well ants will at least be some consolation. Hope storkbill will bring his 'weapons' for the kill. What about Sealman, Terry, Netasia et all? :D

Well I must say I can't complain about Aviva's website. Even the Qualifying rounds are shown in great detail and the results updated quite quickly, except for the final three matches, which have now been released.

I certainly hope there will not be any hitches, especially for the live scores, so that our friends from all over the world in different time zones, will be able to enjoy the proceedings together with us.

If you have any suggestions on improving the website, etc, please let us know so that we may convey to the organizers. :p

Chen Yu should not be called "upcoming". I think he is older than LD, BCL, CJ, but a little bit younger than CH. He does not have much time left to prove himself.

Nope. KKK/Wong hardly ever practise XD, I think they should just do away with it and concentrate on MD/WD.

And the Indonesians are old hands, though S'pore pair gave quite a fight.

KKK/WPT performed quite well in Commonwealth Games.

Li Yujia and Saputra is a good XD pair. I like Saputra's attacking.

If you pair a World Class MD player with a World Class WD player, you only get a decent XD combination, not yet World Class level. That combination need more work before it could become World Class XD. I don't see Malaysia really concentrating on that, ever. The coaches definitely do not emphasize on it too much.

Since the game had become more specialized, it stands to reason that Koo and Wong would be better off concentrating on one event as the tactics are so dissimilar.

Don't forget that the English players they lost to are not really XD specialists either. Gail Emms and Donna Kellogg are in World Top 10 for both WD and XD.

The English pair had better strategy. The Malaysians can (1) smash (2) return smash well, and the English male player was not the greatest smasher. However, they had the front female, Donna Kellogg, who was tall and could reach all parts of the front court easily, so they leveraged on this.

Well as said before KBH is an ordinary player so i dont understand the post typing whats wrong with him. He lost to a better player, remember ronald had won Japan Open before a 5* tournament. KBH always fails to reach quarter/semifinals in tournaments where the line up is as strong as this singapore open.

He needs to improve more to become a world class player in my opinion

A real bad day for the supposedly future pair for Indonesia. I have never expected that Markis/Hendra will lose to the scratch pairing of Hendry/Hendra.

In MS, good to see Ronald won his match, as I expected earlier. KBH must really be at his lowest confidence ever with early exits at 3 consecutive Opens.

i don't know what happened to them (kido/hendra). i watched them playing and with the way they were playing, no surprise they lost. seems like they under-estimated the opponent and also, lost concentration and the 1st game just slipped away. game 2 even worse, no communication between them, instead, like blaming each other, few times after hendra made mistake, kido just looked at the coach and his face like telling the coach 'what the hell is he doing'. so disappointing :(

I was sitting with the japanese team all day and I can't speak japanese at all! I really regret not learning japanese. Shoji was sitting in front of me and when I tap his back to get his attention, he doesn't know what I am trying to say until I simply shove my pen and booklet at him and then he exclaimed "Ahh...". haha. And I was staring at his four NS8000 and it even crossed my mind when he left for a moment that I should just grab his bag and run. haha... Anyway, I'm a fan of Shoji.

I also spent a lot of time looking at Kanako, Eriko, Tomomi, Aoki, Kaori. Hey, Kanako and Kaori look so much better in person.

And these japanese girls can't stop eating all day; biscuits, chocolate, crackers and they even bought MacDonalds! Only to be told that they cannot consume the MacDonalds there. I should have stretched out my hand and asked for some of the biscuits. The dinnertime matches were so exciting that I had to bear through hunger just to watch those.

I feel so embarrassed to be a groupie for trying to hunt down the players for autographs whenever they show up or walk past. There's still a whole lot of players to hunt down. Damn, Pi HongYan walked past my seat and when I noticed her, it was too late. She had her hair down and that's why I didn't realize its her. I only notice her when she turned around saying a few words to someone around me and off she went quickly. Its not easy trying to run after them among the seats because there's other people and racket bags on the floor. Nevermind, tomorrow I'll hunt her down.

16-21, 21-18, 16-21 (KBH vs RS)

Ronald won..........tough game.

actually Kuan Beng Hong gave away lots of cheap points by smashing out the sidelines... there were 1 or 2 occasions when the line judge signalled the smashes were in but Susilo was upset, protested and eventually lost his concentration and the 2nd game. The line judge was also replaced.

Im worried bout kuan beng hong.. not bout his skills though.. Im actually worried bout beng hong's confidence after a straight blow for crashing down in Philippines open n SIngapore Open.. I wonder whether he has any confidence left to play in the following tournaments.. or just disappear like other players

Hi sealman, are u taking the pics from the premium seats?

Hi lightsmash, I stole a guest pass from a friend and sat at the corporate box (opposite the premium seats) in the morning. I had all the seats to myself but was too lonely :D decided to shift and sit behind the premium seats in the afternoon when my friends came.
