Anybody on location with internet connection please give us some kinda update!

An interesting note, If Lin Dan makes it to the quaters (he most likely will) he will do so by playing only Malaysian players in all three rounds!

Some interesting matches in MD ROUND 1/16:
Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah vs Xu Chen/Sun Junjie

Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae vs Sudket Prapakamol/Phattapol Ngernsrisuk (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- the Korean no 1 pair vs the Thai no 1 pair...expect an explosive encounter.

Hoon Thien How/Tan Boon Heong vs Chew Choon Eng/Hong Chien Hun -- the youngsters Hoon/Tan could yet again enter the quarter-final.

Albertus Susanto Njoto/Yohan Wiratama Hadikusomo vs Gan Teik Chai/Abdul Latif/Mohd Zakry

Hwang Ji Man/Jung Tae Kuk vs Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun

-- by the end of today, Malaysians can have at least 3 pairs in the quarter-final. The numbers could swell to 5 or 6 if the other pairs make it too.

More results:
XD ROUND 1/16
Sun Junjie/Tian Qing lost to Anggun Nugroho/Vita Marissa 17-21, 22-24 -- phew.. a close match and Team Indonesia has 1 (perhaps the only one) representative in the QF tomorrow. They will face Lee Jae Jin/Lee Hyo Jung tomorrow.

Selected results in the WS ROUND 1/32 (no scores posted)
Zhang Ning bt Hwang Hye Youn

Nicole Grether lost to Adrianti Firdasari -- a good result for the Indo player. However, her next opponent is Zhang Ning

Yao Jie bt Saina Nehwal -- the Indian's fourth consecutive opens...and another early defeat.

Julia Wong Pei Xian bt Wenny Rahmawati -- another rematch later today with Yao Jie

Wang Chen bt Petya Nedeltcheva

Norsyahliza Baharum lost to Tine Rasmussen

Jiang Yanjiao bt Salakjit Ponsana

Wang Lin bt Soratja Chansrisukot

Fransisca Ratnasari bt Jang Soo Young -- both Nana and Firda have passed their first test...not bad. But, its again almost impossible for Nana to beat the newly crowned SO champion, Pi Hongyan

Jun Jae Youn lost to Xie Xingfang -- apparently in 3 sets?

WS ROUND 1/16 to be played later today:
Zhang Ning vs Adrianti Firdasari

Yao Jie vs Julia Wong Pei Xian (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- this time, I think Yao will win

Wang Chen vs Tine Rasmussen

Jiang Yanjiao vs Ella Karachova

Wang Lin vs Tracey Hallam

Fransisca Ratnasari vs Pi Hongyan

Lee Hyun Jin vs Julianne Schenk

Sutheaswari Mundukasan vs Xie Xingfang

-- looks like except for the winner of the match between Lee and Schenk, we will have 7 Chinese (or ex-Chinese) players in the QF.

Chetan Anand lost to Andrew Smith

Roman Spitko bt Kuan Beng Hong -- sigh...what can I say...another second round defeat at the hand of opponents that is lower ranked. Its time for KBH to take some time off badminton now.

Arvind Bhat bt Kenneth Jonassen -- shock of the round   The Indian players are indeed improving.

Jeffer Rosobin lost to Ng Wei

Krishnan Yogendran lost to Boonsak Ponsana

Boonsak Ponsana vs Chen Hong (close candidate for match of the round)

Eric Pang vs Lee Chong Wei -- a tricky test, but manageable for the defending champion.

Snippet of article from The Star 15 June 2006

“If I play like this, I am not going to win the Malaysian Open title for the third time here,” lamented Chong Wei.

“I just could not find the fire in me. I felt lethargic and jaded. I have not taken the trouble to find out on who my next opponent is. I think, I am still finding it hard to raise my game after being criticised for my performances at the Thomas Cup Finals.”

In the Finals last month, Chong Wei failed to live up to the expectations against Peter Gade-Christensen of Denmark. His defeat saw Malaysia eventually losing 2-3 to the Danes in the semi-finals.

He tried to gain some confidence in the Indonesian Open but suffered another blow when he went down to Chen Ju of China in the third round.

“My confidence level is low now and it is affecting my game. If I continue with my poor showing, I am not going for next week's Taiwan Open. It is better to stay at home,” he said. “But I am not giving up yet. I will try to gain that confidence here.”

MS ROUND 1/16:
Lin Dan bt Beryno Wong 21-12, 21-14

Chan Yan Kit lost to Mohd Roslin Hashim 17-21, 12-21 -- tough match against Lin Dan tomorrow.

Peter Gade bt Poompat Sapkulchananart 21-15, 21-16 -- matches against Chen Jin and Lin Dan coming up for the Danes.

Chen Jin bt Andrew Smith 21-6, 21-10

Roman Spitko bt Arvind Bhat 21-14, 21-17 -- it has been a good tournament for the German.

Ng Wei lost to Lee Hyun Il 9-21, 10-21

Boonsak Ponsana bt Chen Hong 21-17, 21-14 -- wow...the upset of the night....first time Boonsak beat a Chinese player perhaps?

Eric Pang lost to Lee Chong Wei 13-21, 7-21 -- with Chen Hong gone, it makes life easier for the local favorite to retain his title. He should beat Boonsak yet again tomorrow.

WS ROUND 1/16
Zhang Ning bt Adrianti Firdasari 21-9, 21-17 -- a good effort by Firda in the second set

Yao Jie bt Julia Wong Pei Xian 21-12, 15-21, 21-8 -- this time, Yao prevails.

Jiang Yanjiao bt Ella Karachkova 21-6, 21-18

Fransisca Ratnasari lost to Pi Hongyan 17-21, 20-22 -- two tight sets...really good effort by Nana. Overall, both gals have performed well in the Malaysian Open, winning their first round match and losing respectably to the top players.

Lee Hyun Jin bt Julianne Schenk 17-21, 21-19, 21-16

Sutheaswari Mudukasan lost to Xie Xingfang 21-23, 21-23 -- Xie struggled to beat the Malaysian player. She was also stretched to 3 sets in the earlier round.

Hoon Thien How/Tan Boon Heong lost to Chew Choon Eng/Hong Chieng Hun 25-23, 21-12 -- too bad, the young Malaysian pair lost to the scratch pair.

Svetoslav Stoyanov/Mihail Popov lost to Chan Choong Ming/Koo Kien Keat 16-21, 20-22 -- also not a very convincing performance from the Malaysian no 1 pair.

Albertus Susanto Njoto/Yohan Wiratama Hadikusumo lost to Gan Teik Chai/Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif 18-21, 21-18, 18-21 -- 3 tight sets...once again the HK pair has proven that they are no pushover. They should be in the top 20 soon.
