Well as previously discussed and calculated, Lee Chong Wei will step up to be world no.1 after successfully entering the final in taipei open. Well now it's official, it in the latest ranking list.
http://www.internationalbadminton.org/Worldranking.asp
Although he is now officially world no.1 but I think he should be fully aware that the tiger behind him is not gonna sit there quietly. From the taipei open match we can see that he has a lot more to be improved if he wants to stay in the no.1 ranking for anytime longer.
Let's just hope he remains.
He has all the manners a world no.1 should have, now he just has to improve his skills to make sure the world no.2 kicks his own racquet everytime :D.

Really happy for LCW.He finally can get rid of World no2.I just hope him can remaing coz like wildstone says all players behind him are tigers. He really need to be careful. As for the MD,Rexy is really something.Really happy that we have 4 MD in top ten. This will benefit us in the coming world championship but they must practice more coz the ranking may change any time .Don't forget still got some tournaments to go before WC.

Hi!
Could someone tell me why LCW can be the Number 1?!?
Why has LD only 8 Tournaments and LCW 9?
http://www.badmintoninternational.net/website/worldranking.asp
And Taufik Hidayat?!? Was Number 8 or 9 and after he won the Indonesia or Malaysia Open some Weeks ago he is now Number 23?!?
There must be something wrong I think...
2 Weeks ago Peter Gade was Number 1 and Xu Huaiwen was number 1 of the Women Singles?!?

the world ranking is actually really weird! it must be a mistake that gade and xu huaiwen were no. 1 of the world last week. something is wrong with the new system. in this instance the points of some results of last year shouldn't be withdrawn.
well, as the ibf head quarter moved to KL almost everything is going worse. the most unlucky thing is to have punch gunalan as the most important man of the ibf. he is ruining badminton!

Well, the new ranking system has nothing to do with the IBF headquarter moving to Kuala Lumpur. There's a thread about the new ranking system... It's somewhere else here and I guess it'll be detailed enough to explain why is this and that

07-03-2006, 07:07 AM
ey man, there were sooo many problems with the world ranking after moving to KL!! for example: many players could be found twice, thrice or even more often in the world ranking list. on so many tournaments the draw has to made again because the seedings were incorrect. that's because of the world ranking! this hadn't happened before!
so what do u want to say? it has nothing to do with the headquarter moving to kuala lumpur?? their computer systems were totally weird!! or even still are

Well, don't tell me that the effiency of the IBF people got things done is due to the hot weather of Kuala Lumpur or too much pubs to hang around?

It does not matter whether TH is ranked 1, 10, 20, 30, 60
He will be the winner of this 2006 WC in Madrid:D ....
This will make this 2006 WC much more interesting because we will watch TH vs Top Players right from the early round to the Final round..
Here is my scenario
64 TH vs CH
32 TH vs KJ
16 TH vs LHI
8 TH vs BCL
4 TH vs LCW
FINAL TH vs LD

i tend to agree 100%, TH doens't care about his ranking, he knows about his ability to beat any player
in tennis if a player become #1, he/she will be very rich form sponsors

Hi there, I would have to say that is a bit unrealitic thou. I mean playing all those top 10 rank players needs a lot of stamina. That would make it harder if he still has injuries by then. Even he manages to make it to the final he will only lose to LD easily since he played all the good players all the way, which means LD is playing non top 10 players on his way to final. That will just give LD more stamina and energy to thrash TH in the final. But I do hope he can retain the title, he is one of the few gifted badminton players nowadays. He has wonderful net play, powerful jump smash and a smart thinking.

They are actually not problems, why don't just change your mind and think it as a change? For me, there are always ppl who support or against one leader or organisation. Changing the new system for example, some ppl like it but some not. For me I like it as it makes the game more exciting, from the beginning until the end. Coz you can't just think i can catch up later and each point is so valuable. In a game with the old system, only the last 5 points turn the atmosphere. The new system requires a lot of skills and consistency to play a good game.
For the new world ranking system, I am not sure if someone here mentioned about what i am thinking, but here i go. The change in point system could be a strategy to push all the top players to show up more in minor competition. With all these high ranked players join the tournament, it will help to promote the game. Why? Coz there will be more tournaments broadcasting since there are lots of high ranked players involved (as they want to retain their ranking). However, the bad things are that new players will find it hard to compete and the countries will have to set up their budget much higher since they need to send their players to even minor competitions.
I don't see there is any problem but change. Maybe a change that makes the sport better and more well-known. By the way, it is just my own opinion.

Oh one more thing, from other thread, the IBF is adopting the Super Series in 2007 which is similar to the tennis tournament system. And this Super Series provides more games and tournament in a year, which benefits not only the sport itself but us the badminton fans. We have more games to watch during a year. I reckon it is a good change and idea to promote the game.

LD plays well in tournaments. But, he didn't play well in olympic 2004 and world championships 2005.
He has played TH many times and won in Sudirman Cup and Thomas Cup. But he had little confidence when playing against TH in worldchampions. Especially last year, TH ousted him in a very short time.
I hope he can get WC this year. if he crumbles again, i think it's too hard for him to boost confidence and he is unlikely to win those in the future.

Chong Wei plays well ONLY if TH does not participate or at home ground (Malaysia). :D
Being No. 1 means nothing for TH....It does not affect him at all.:D
LD, LCW, PG, BCL may be higher in rank....but when it comes to major tournaments where TH joins....no guarantee at all:D

erm... i may be a malaysian but i have to say it is true that malaysians are generally sooo inefficient, it is not surprising if all these blunders in the rankings is due to the move of handquaters to KL :)

I don't think so... The IBF decided to use a new ranking system, and the headquarter moving to Kuala Lumpur doesn't mean all the Federation members are Malaysians.... IBF is something international

After watching the recent tournaments on Google Video (don't see them here in oz on TV) I feel that LCW & Peter Gade are the 2 that are in top form. Lin Dan has slipped a bit. I would have thought that TH would be higher up the list, strange to see such a classy player in the 20s. My money is on Peter Gade to return to the top. He has remained a great player for so many years now and it would be good to see him go out on top after giving such good service to Badminton over the years. Congrats to LCW though, it must be hard to stay on top right now!!
