From Bolanews:
MS -- Taufik Hidayat (thats quite surprising...) and Sony Dwi Kuncoro
WS -- Fransisca Ratnasari
MD -- Yoga Ugikasah/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki
WD -- Jo Novita/Greysia Polii
XD -- Mohd Rizal/Greysia Polii

If there's no Chinese participation (unlikely though), Taufik could perhaps win another title?

Depend of other participants. Right now Taufik had major personal issue to settle. I wonder did he train regularly this few weeks. He had become the major headline celebrity news this few weeks. And again its not a nice headline.

Hoping it didnot effect his play.

Shuttler Taufik Hidayat Denies He's A Dad

By Mohd Nasir Yusoff

JAKARTA, July 6 (Bernama) -- Top shuttler Taufik Hidayat was under fire by a woman named Yatmayeni Faninda (Fanny) who demanded that he acknowledged fathering a five-year-old son with her, a local daily reported.

According to The Jakarta Post, Taufik, who four months ago married the daughter of former cabinet minister Agum Gumelar, Ami Diyanti Gumelar, had never admitted that the boy, Excel Reifan Agachie, was his son.

A battle between Taufik's and Fanny's lawyers ensued and the shuttler, Fanny and the child became the centre of national gossip.

In early June, Fanny, a single mother, told the media that she wanted Taufik to admit Excel as his son because the boy often asked her about his father.

"I'm not seeking publicity; I'm doing this for my son," she was quoted by the daily as telling the media recently.

She said she met Taufik in late 2000 at the birthday party of shuttler Sigit Budiarto at a Jakarta cafe and Taufik called her and they had an alliance for two months.

When she realised she was carrying a baby, she called Taufik who reportedly said "OK, OK, we'll deal with it later."

Fanny decided to raise her child alone but now, she wanted Taufik to admit that Excel was his, the paper reported.

Taufik has been largely silent on the matter, said the Jakarta Post, pointing out that although he had never said Excel was his son, he also had never categorically stated that he was not.

Last Friday, Fanny reported the case to the National Commission for Child Protection asking the commission to investigate whether this was a case of child abandonment.

Through his lawyer, Taufik had announced he planned to sue Fanny for slander, it added.

Geez, won't this smear Taufik's image as the pride of his country? Already having a relationship and yet he went on to marriage with another girl without settling it. Quite irresponsible of him, is it not? I wonder why Taufik's so quiet on the matter though, he should get rid of it as quick as possible due to the WC up ahead.

I think TH will participate in MacauOpen to upgrade his low rank (number 23).Honestly, he must be aware about his WR although he always said don't care about the rank. This is the test-case for TH to get the title here among hot-gossip around him in INA's infotainment. Anyway, I guess CHN will send their top-shuttlers to compete in inaugural MacauOpen-06 because Macau SAR is part of mainland P.R.C. so the Chinese squad want to make success in this tourney.

What a lucky country to host the world class badminton players!!! I wish were in Macau to witnes the great event. Taufik!!! Why did not you participate on the world class badmiton "Swiss Open" 13-18 March 2005???? We were dissapointed as Indonesian players could not go ahead till final game and expecting you to do the battle. So, I and some Indonesian friends gave support for Malaysia's team. and Yesssssssssss....Malaysia WON!

Wow, lets hope there's no last minutes withdrawal from Taufik, as far as I know, Lin Dan, Zhang Ning, Lee Hyun Il, Wang Chen, Lee Chong Wei, Fu/Cai, ... all will be attending this 4-star event.
Still puzzling why US is not able to organize one similar to WC2005 as it was such a big success.

Hallo Han and badminton Maniac! Greetings from Basel (Switzerland)!
Maybe the badminton in US is not as popular as in Asia or Europe. Swiss have annual event "Swiss Open" and last year was great BUT Indonesian team did not success in the game. Maybe have not much supporter (but I was there with some Indo supporters) or was too cold. Heee....I was the shouting one giving support for Malaysia in the final game against Denmark. As I had no choice giving support, I supported Malaysia as my neighbour country and Malaysia was number one for Double.
Anyway, let's do excercise now guys!!!

I have just looked at the draws...not bad...MANY big names are there which is a bit surprising  . China, Malaysia and Koreans are sending more or less their top players. The men's singles and women's singles draws has China's top players such as Lin Dan, Bao Chunlai, Chen Hong, Chen Jin, Chen Yu, Zhang Ning, Xie Xingfang, Lu Lan, Zhu Lin, and Wang Lin. For MD, its Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun and Guo Zhendong/Zheng Bo. For WD, its Gao Ling/Huang Sui. For XD, its Zhang Jun/Gao Ling, Zheng Bo/Yu Yang.

Not for Indonesia as expected  Rexy also chooses to "rest" most of his WC-bound pairs and only send Choong/Lee and Hoon/Tan.

I might actually be tempted to go there for the weekend next week for the semis and finals  I haven't decided though because I am going to Xi'an first and only come back on Friday night.

The draws really create many interesting clashes as early as in the first round:
MS:
Lee Chong Wei vs Agus Hariyanto
Mohd Roslin Hashim vs Kendrick Lee Yen Hui -- I doubt Kendrick can go far next week.
Chen Hong vs Sho Sasaki
Kennevic Asuncion vs Mohd Hafiz Hashim

NO Sony in the main draw?

WS:
Kaori Mori vs Judith Meulendijks
Wang Chen vs Eriko Hirose
Cheng Shao-Chieh vs Kanako Yonekura
Hwang Hye Youn vs Zhu Lin
Li Li vs Xie Xingfang

MD:
Tony Gunawan/Halim Heryanto vs Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae
Hwang Ji Man/Lee Jae Jin vs Albertus Susanto Njoto/Yohan Wiratama Hadikusumo

XD:
Tony Gunawan/Minarti Timur vs Zhang Jun/Gao Ling

I thought all Malaysian shuttlers in the exemption of Lee Chong Wei will be preparing for Malacca Open instead as it's a must for national shuttlers? Surprised to see Choong and Lee in the draw though

It sounded great that Indo players will join the event in Macau.

Will they play for the US or for Indo?
Anyway, it doesn't matter. Hope the Indonesian people will win.

The Tony/Minarti vs. Zhang/Gao match would be a great one, too. Remember Taipei last year when Tony played for the first time ever with a local player and they took out then world #1 Lee/Lee in the first round. I've never heard of anyone so successful in scratch pairings.

Indeed...it was a shocking result...they went all the way to win the event!
Pairing Tony with any one could produce a shock because he's just so good in doubles!

Remember...Zhang Jun/Gao Ling just lost to Lee Yong Dae/Hwang Yu Mi in the quarter-final of the Chinese Taipei Open...so, they might not be in their top form.

Anything can happen in sport but mixed doubles isn't the same as mens doubles. Tony is an awesome player who can set his partner up for smashes and kills ala Howard Bach.

With mixed though that's the girls job! She must needs control the net and give Tony a chance to make offensive shots. The reverse where Tony is controlling the net won't be nearly as effective unless she smashes like a man! They have a chance to win if his partner can handle the net against Gao Lin who w/ Gail Emms is reputably the best front court players in the game ....

If anything cheer Tony's partner if u want a good match. I think he can handle the back court just fine.

If anything cheer Tony's partner if u want a good match. I think he can handle the back court just fine.Right. The fact is that Minarti Timur is a former champion. She won in mixed in Japan, Singapore and Germany once each and Malaysia and Thailand twice each and the Indonesian Open five times most recently in 2002. She is getting old but has been to the final 16 twice this year and the semis once.

Tony's partner when he won the mixed doubles in Taipei last year was not a champion. She was just one of Taiwan's best players. I don't know how Cheng Wen-Hsing is in women's doubles but in mixed, the only thing she'd ever won before Taipei with Tony was the U.S. Open in 2004. Maybe she is a latent mixed ace who just hasn't had the top-calibre partners but Minarti was a mixed ace, period. If she has any of that greatness left next week, Zhang and Gao had better watch out.
