View Full Version : SOTX Woven 16 and STB 9080
Notnimdab729 08-06-2006, 10:17 PM Hi guys,
Anyone have tested these two rackets and have reviews on their performance? Appreciate if u can share yr comments on these two 's performance with me. Thanks.:D

Dreamzz 08-07-2006, 06:57 AM you should read what dan has to say about the woven 16 in the Sotx-jerry's Woven review thread. apparently it's not very good and for the price, only a collector would buy it.
jerby 08-07-2006, 09:13 AM I disagree...
DinkAlot stated he tested it a long time time with a string/tension he wasn't acustomed to (maybe too low?)
so to judge it as 'expensive crap' is a bit harsh...
All I know are the statistics.
the woven 16 is made of a higher modulus of graphite (compared to regular Sotx rackets) headlight, 88grams, 670mm long and 8,5-9,0 stiff (a bit stiff, not a lot)
the stb9080 is 90grams, headheavy (295mm) 675mm long, 8,-8,5 stiff (very stiff) and a 100% woven racket. (woven: graphite+fiberglas) and can be strung up to 35lbs according to Sotx
and I can tell you the woven 16 costs between 190-300usd and the stb9080 costs between 180-240 usd., AFAIK...
Can't find any reviews though. why are you interested in them? because they're expensive?
Notnimdab729 08-07-2006, 09:12 PM Jerby,
Thanks for yr information.I have a woven 16 and I think STB 9080 is way cheaper than Woven 16. The tension it can take is above 31 lbs as stated in the spec. I have tried STB 9080 and found it heavier than woven 16 but slightly longer and pretty stiff. Furthermore,it is cheaper than Woven 16 at least by RMB$700/- This racket is pretty good in handling but one must string it with high tension in order to maximise its potential.;) I found it interesting.;) Worth considering.:p

jerby 08-08-2006, 03:40 AM yes, the stb9080 should be heavier, headheavier, longer and stiffer. you already own both? or have you tried both? why don't yóu give a review:p?
Notnimdab729 08-08-2006, 10:52 PM Hi jerby,
Ok. Now, I own both. Yet to restring STB 9080 for a trial. I dont like the lady who strung my racket at Suzhou. I told her to string it at 30lbs with SOTX 1040ti but when I went to collect the racket n tested it, I found it was much less. Immediately I questioned her and she admitted she strung it slightly at lower tension. I used the racket at that particular night, but found the tension was not giving me the "feel" which I was looking for.:( I think I will get it restring when I am back in Singapore by this weekend and try again.;) Well, the racket look pretty good but really yet to try it out.:p I will post a review then.:)

Dreamzz 08-09-2006, 05:18 AM oho, finally a review on the woven 16 with proper strings and the like. aye, i suppose it wasn't fair to judge the 16 based on dan's review alone, but it was the only one i could find at the time. what to do? :D
jerby 08-10-2006, 04:29 AM no hard feelings dreamzz?:p;)
I'm actually very eager to hear about the 9080...Notnimdab, have you got any other Sotx's or yonex's to compare both with? would be nice for a benchmark...
Notnimdab729 08-17-2006, 02:46 AM Hi guys,
After about few days of playing with two rackets found the following outcome:
(1) Woven 16 is definitely lighter than STB 9080. In term of handling such as clear, lobs and defence, Woven 16 is better than STB 9080.
(2) In term of smash and drives, STB 9080 is definitely more powerful than Woven 16. However after proplonged smashes, u tend to get tired as 9080 is a heavier racket than Woven 16. This is not so when compared to NS9K which is efforless in clear n smashes.
(3) in term of placement and retrieval of shuttles, Woven 16 will provide a better handling. Clear and defence is as good as Nanospeed 9000.;)
In summary, I would say Woven 16 is a better racket in overall performance although the pricing way abit too high for many people. S$380/- per pc.:(
Rackets used: Woven 16, string tension:27 lbs, string type: BS963:
Racket used: STB 9080, string tension: 29 lbs, String type: Yonex BG 80.
