This is a genuine Yonex racket, since at that time Yonex might be nobody :p . Several pictures were attached. Size-wise, similar to the hot NS9KX. On one side of the frame, it says "Scientifically designed to lift your game" & "Custom made by YONEX for championship play". The racket is still in excellent condition & play-able, but it is super head heavy (way heavy compared to my 3U AT-700). The overall weight is heavy as well.

Enjoy... (BTW, available, o.b.o. :p )

When look at the antique racket, I thought, it's just amazing how badminton progressed due to technology achievements. If pro-players used this racket today, for sure, the game will be much slower... :)

On the other hand, the racket is sure durable and will probably not fail in clashes... (no sure for Dink though)

Should it be a squash racket?? I have the wooden YY and the shape is oval rather than round.......

I think it is more rare than the wooden YY badminton racket.

i think it's a squash racquet too.
Rarity is also dependent on condition.

You guys are gooood. The model of the racket probably tells it's a squash racket. :p

Even it is a squash racket, still heavier & stiffer compared to my HEAD ones.

that's a really good observation! now it all make sense.

SQ-xxxx -> Squash
B-xxxx -> Badminton

has it occured to anybody else that the early Yonex B-xxxx rackets, the B actually stands for Badminton?

Yeah, it's true. In the early days, Yonex did produce badminton rackets like B-8300, B-8500 & B-8600, etc.

None of the above were made completely of wooden frame. Just not sure, what kind number it used for wooden badminton rackets. Probably, the SQ-5000 is older compared to B-8### badminton rackets.

Hi guys,

Do you collect any Yonex vintage rackets? Care to share some of your recollections/experiences about these rackets?

Woodies

B1000 Queen Heart
B2000 King Dia
B3000 Collegiate
B4000 Collogiate Deluxe
B5000 Five Ace
B6000 Five Ace Deluxe
B9000 Hy-Stainless (Introduced in 1976)
B9100 Slim Stainless (Introduced in 1976, has a slimer shaft which is as slim as the Blacken)
B9300 Carbonex 3 (Introduced in 1978, one of the very first Yonex rackets to have a carbon shaft)

Aluminium/Steel Frame

B4500 Alumina Spright
B5300 Alumina53
B5400 Alumina54
B5500 Alumina55
B7000 Alumina Ace
B8000 Alumina Hy-Power
B8100 Blacken (Introduced in 1976)
B8300 Carbonex 7 (Introduced in 1978, one of the very first Yonex rackets to have a carbon shaft)
B8500 Carbonex 8 (Introduced in 1979)

I wonder if some of you guys played with Blacken before. It was slimer and heavier than most rackets during the early 80s. It gives killer smashes.

And the Carbonex 8 of course. It was way too expensive for me back then but I had opportunites to borrow the use of these rackets from my friends.

Some pictures of the woodies can be found in the following website which is maintained by a Japanese sports teacher. The unidentified woodie with the pink paint job is the B9000.

A little research comes a long way. Have a look at this:

A fair assumption on the SQ-5000, it should be a 30+ year old racket...:p

Am I the only who misses those funny Yonex phrases?

Back in the 1970s and 1980s, they used to always have these weird and wonderful phrases on all their equipment. I had a badminton holdall that said "Yonex captures the spirit of champion winner in ways to lift your play".

Even some rackets had phrases on them, the old Cab15 used to have something actually on the side of the frame about laser lightning torque quick recovery for superior response...

hmm, actually i have seen a similar wooden racket being played recently(abt 2-3 mo. ago) at a local club(SGVBC). The wielder of the racket is none other than Trisna G.(if any of the local SGVBC folks should know him)..
I just thought, if one was to play and practice with this racket, esp. with its "smaller" head-frame, one can really develop a pretty good sweet-spot for hitting the shuttle. While at the same time, develop a "pretty strong" arm & wrist..;)

Good point, Chris. That's why some people enjoy the explosive of Cab 20. Maybe it's a good biz opportunity to manufacture some small sweet spot & super heavy rackets for training? :)
