View Full Version : Hong Kong Open 2006: Day 2 (29/08) hcyong 08-28-2006, 10:28 PM Here are the matches for today: http://www.hkbadmintonassn.org.hk/files/280806.pdf cooler 08-28-2006, 10:37 PM woohoo, 3 canadian are playing in the HK open. badMania 08-28-2006, 10:46 PM The WD results have been updated as well. 2 matches have yet been played in WD Round of 32. That includes the match between Kumiko Ogura/Reiko Shiota vs Jo Novita/Gresya Polii. Yesterday, Lita Nurlita/Nathalia Poluakan have lost to the 3/4 seed Chien Yu-Chin/Cheng Wen-Hsing as I expect...in 3 sets 11-21, 21-16, 14-21. Not a bad result, esp after they have reached the semi-finals in Korea last week. In the XD, Flandy Limpele/Lita Nurlita have advanced to the main draw after winning 2 matches yesterday. They will face He Hanbin/Yu Yang in Round of 32 today. Other matches in the XD include Nathan Robertson/Gail Emms vs Mohd Rizal/Gresya Polii, Tony Gunawan/Minarti Timur vs Sudket Prapakamol/Saralee Thoungthongkam, and Hwang Ji Man/Ha Jeung Eun vs Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir. Tough matches indeed  In the WS, Fransisca Ratnasari will face Anna Rice, while Adrianti Firdasari will square up against Tinne Rasmussen. In the MS, its Simon Santoso vs Kestusis Navickas, Henri Hurskainen vs Sony Dwi Kuncoro, and Taufik Hidayat vs Shon Sheung Mo. Finally, in the MD, its Howard Bach/Bob Malaythong vs Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan, Gan Teik Chai/Abdul Latif Mohd Zakry vs Flandy Limpele/Sigit Budiarto, Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto vs another English pair David Lindley/Chris Langridge and finally Michael Fuchs/Roman Spitko vs Tony Gunawan/Candra Wijaya. That is what LD does all the time in the early rounds, took his time to fooling with the opponent. At the same time to get used to the environment. event 08-29-2006, 05:59 PM Wow, three Indonesian pairs are out of mixed doubles already but none of them went down without a fight. Rijal/Polii, Nugroho/Marissa, and Limpele/Nurlita all lost in 3 games. Wang Chen has disposed of half the Korean women's singles lineup and will have a crack at the other half, Lee Yun-hwa, tomorrow. You may remember that Lee took Xu Huaiwen to 3 games at home but tomorrow she will face Wang Chen on the latter's home ground. The other 2 Indonesian mixed pairs squeaked through though. All matches took 3 games. Another rematch yesterday was another first-round meeting between Luluk/Alven and Lindley/Langridge of England. It took them 3 games but the Indonesians won this time. Sigit/Flandy lost to Gan/Zakry of Malaysia, who will face much stronger Indonesians in the next round since Markis/Hendra beat the Americans, predictably. ctjcad 08-29-2006, 06:18 PM The other 2 Indonesian mixed pairs squeaked through though. All matches took 3 games. hmm, which 2nd INA pair squeaked thru top the Rd of 16??..:confused:all i saw is the Nova/Lilyana pair passing thru and yes in 3 sets.. event 08-29-2006, 06:31 PM hmm, which 2nd INA pair squeaked thru top the Rd of 16??..all i saw is the Nova/Lilyana pair passing thru and yes in 3 sets..Minarti Timur is still Indonesian and Tony Gunawan, I suspect, is still of keen interest to Indonesian fans. Oops, my mistake, though. They lost in 3 games to Sudket and Saralee. I must say that surprises me. With all the success Tony has had playing with anybody, to lose every match when he's playing with a former champion like Minarti. I guess in each case it was to a top pair, wasn't it? I just checked. The last time he lost with Minarti was also in 3 games and to Zhang/Gao of all people! I guess Sudket/Saralee and Zhang/Gao don't get the jitters like Lee/Lee of Korea, whom Tony beat in the first round of the Chinese Taipei Open last year playing with Cheng Wen-Hsing, ostensibly for the first time ever. Arun V 08-29-2006, 10:54 PM Ajay Jayaram of India beat Eric Pang of Netherland score 21:14,19:21,21:17. Eric Pang is 12 in World Ranking.19 year old Ajay who new to this International Circut has shown great promise. Honk Kong Open is the 2nd international tournament he is playing after Korea Open.In the 2nd round Ajay will play against Yeon Kay Bin of Malaysia.:) badMania 08-31-2006, 11:38 AM Just got this news from Bola. According to Hendrawan, Firda and Nana lost their matches on Tuesday due to fatigue and lack of fitness as they just arrived to HKG at night the previous day. Apparently, both players missed their flight to HKG at 9am in the morning which was supposed to be on Garuda. Reason given: they had to travel to the airport with the same batch of Pelatnas players who are competing in the Singapore Satelitte. Therefore, they had to take the Cathay flight in the afternoon (I take this flight most of the time when I return to HKG from JKT). They arrived in HKG at night and eventually managed to check in to the airport (another 1 hr ride from the airport) close to midnight  |
