Team China apparently hasn't received visa clearance for its squad of 14 players :cool: So, it's unlikely they will come to Surabaya. It's a pity because the squad consists of Lu Qicheng and Liu Jie, probably the best Chinese players at junior level. Team England, Erwin Djohan and some Singapore players have also decided to skip the JPGG.

Yup...Kenichi Tago, the AJBC champion; the Asuncion sibilings; and some old guards like Bambang Supriyanto, Tri Kusharyanto and Minarti Timur are in Surabaya to spice up the competition. Not easy for the Pelatnas team to win titles here (esp in WS and XD). MD Final should be a rematch between Yoga/Yonathan and Rendra/Frans.

Kenichi Tago has beaten Bandar Sigit Pamungkas in 3 very closely contested sets 21-19, 18-21, 22-20. He will meet Kennevic Asuncion in the third round.

The other foreign players who managed to reach round 3 includes Tan Chun Seang (who will be playing Ahmad Rivai) and Darren Liew (who will be playing Indra Bagus Ade Chandra).

In the mixed doubles, Devi Tika Permatasari is now paired with Frans Kurniawan and they lost to non-Pelatnas pair Agung Rohanda/Irene in the first round 21-17, 18-21, 16-21. One other pair (possibly Pelatnas) Viki Indra Oktava/Richi Puspita Dili lost to Chan Peng Soon/Haw Chiao-Hwe 19-21, 17-21. Tantow/Yulianti continued their good run and beat Titon Gustaman/Jane David 21-19, 21-16. They are likely to play the Asuncion siblings in the quarter-final.

I wonder how PBSI defend & degrade Pelatnas players, they keep defend some older players to develope.
Same case with men's single, after Sony's era, they recruited some junior's winners, Holvy De Pauw, Roy Purnomo or Andre Kurniawan, 1 year in Pelatnas then dropped them. But they keep some "old" players who same club with the coach. PBSI has gotten nothing, wasted time & money to build mediocre players.

A very bad decision yet again by PBSI! Purwati/Meiliana have shown good progress this year and Djarum has kept its faith in them by sending them to the Macau Open, Thailand Open, and New Zealand Open, with a semi-final showing at the NZ Open. So, they have risen up the ranking to world no 25 now (and will rise again by next week), higher than Nitya Krishinda/Nadya Melati.

Similarly, Rian Sukmawan/Eng Hian have repaid Djarum's support and are at world no 22 now.

Back to the JPGG, Team Pelatnas's MD pairs were disappointing yet again today as both pairs lost to club pairs. Rendra Wijaya/Frans Kurniawan was surprisingly beaten in straight sets 18-21, 14-21 by the veteran pair of Bambang Supriyanto/Ronny Agustinus. It's another clean sweep by Indonesia in the JPGG Surabaya Satelitte. However, Team Pelatnas only managed to win one title in WS through Maria Kristin Yulianti. She has beaten Julia Wong for the second consecutive times and have somewhat proven a point to Hendrawan that she deserves to stay in Pelatnas.

The rest of the titles are shared between the two big clubs: Djarum and the host Suryanaga Gudang Garam. Djarum's WD pair Purwati/Meiliana Jauhari beat their Pelatnas counterpart yet again, this time in straight sets. Meanwhile, Rian Sukmawan partnered Ade Lukas and won his second title of the year (after the NZ Open). The ex-Olympic silver-medallist Tri Kusharyanto/Minarti Timur showed that they still can win medals despite their age. Lastly, it also has been two productive weeks for Jeffer Rosobin with two Satelitte titles in his bag. It has been a busy year for him as well, with 8 tournaments (including Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand Opens). I think he still can win some more Satelitte titles.
