MEN'S SINGLES
Lin Dan vs Kenneth Jonassen (TV Court -- match no 2) -- no problem for Lin.
Chen Jin vs Lee Chong Wei (MATCH OF THE ROUND, TV Court -- match no 4) -- the Malaysian player to win and reach a second successive semi-final.
MEN'S DOUBLES
Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan vs Guo Zhendong/Xu Chen (TV Court -- match no 3) -- on paper, the young Indonesian pair should win to reach their first final this year, but, they have to be careful.
Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah vs Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun (MATCH OF THE ROUND, TV Court -- match no 5) -- Fu/Cai have been very consistent this year and they should win.
WOMEN'S SINGLES
Zhang Ning vs Jiang Yanjiao (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- the senior player to win.
Tine Rasmussen vs Xie Xingfang -- a surprising result for the Danes today, but, Xie should be too powerful for her.
WOMEN'S DOUBLES
Gao Ling/Huang Sui vs Chien Yu-Chin/Cheng Wen-Hsing (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- the Chinese pair to win!
Gail Emms/Donna Kellogg vs Yang Wei/Zhang Jiewen -- ditto!
MIXED DOUBLES
Zhang Jun/Gao Ling vs Zheng Bo/Zhao Tingting -- the senior Chinese pair to win!
Xie Zhongbo/Zhang Yawen vs Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir (MATCH OF THE ROUND, TV Court -- match no 1) -- if there's any pair that can beat the in-form Nova/Butet, it's the Chinese pair Xie/Zhang. However, Xie just recovers from an injury...I think Nova/Butet can win!

umm ... you mean reach the final?
hmmm, i thought LCW has lost in early rounds for the last 2 competitions?
and for once, i actually agree with your predictions, though i'm hoping that ctf/lww will do well ... :D

I agree 100% with badMania's prediction.
I think the players with good chances of spoiling the prediction are Chen Jin (against LCW), Choong TF/Lee LWW (against Fu/Cai) and Xie ZB/Zhang YW (against Widianto/Natsir).

I would like to say it again, that Lee HI is really a quarter-finalist expert. It is not an insult. It is a fact, first, then half praise, half disappointment. It always so easy for Lee HI to reach the quarter final, even had to beat some players like Taufik to get there, but after quarter-final, Lee HI always has problems to proceed further. It might be a mental issue.

Looks like another all China sweep like last year.
i wouldn't bet on that.
i think that the MS, MD and XD are still up for grabs, with XD most likely to produce the non-chinese winners.
nova/lilyana have been playing fantastically well this year, and ZJ/GL should watch out if they make it to the finals.
i can still see CY/FHF losing the MD as well.
however, for WS and WD, as long as the top chinese women are in attendance, i don't know why the other women even bother to compete!
might as well just give it to them ...

I don't think it's a mental issue, just look at the QF list that he most probably have to face :
Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei, Chen Jin, Peter Gade, Chen Hong, Bao Chunlai. All these players can play very fast games which Lee Hyun Il find it hard to cope with his playing style(stroke and defensive player). I would categorize Lee in the same boat as Boonsak, Kenneth Jonassen. Unless these player change their playing style, they will not do well in the 21-point new system. If you recall before Li Mau arrive, LCW was facing the same problem. I think a minor twick will do magic on these players just like Roslin Hashim.
Just my opinion.

Better for the sport to have mixed countries in the finals instead of just the red flag of China. I concede the women's events to CHN but the other 3 are still open. Definitely NO to LD v CJ in MS final.

hehe, oops, almost forgot abt the Semis, after all the commotions on QF day..Still can't believe Taufik made the "most noise" in the whole tournament, yet he lost tamely in the QF...:p;)
Anyways, for the MD Semis, not to undermine their opponents, i want Kido/Markis and Fu/Cai to meet in the Finals on Saturday. These 2 pairs could be headed for their own rivalry..BTW, anyone know if they've played against each other before??..

I second this. It's getting boring watching CHN vs CHN in the finals. Sometimes, I even felt that the match has been pre-Determined (just like a circus act). Even final between LCW vs LD is not exciting to watch anymore, after so, so many. Just to think about it makes me yawn. :p I wish to see KJ/LCW or KJ/CJ in the final this time. Do the UPSET, Kenneth. I want you in the FINAL. Anybody knows of any online 'Bomoh' or 'Vodoo' sites. :D

If LIN Dan and LEE Chong Wei all enter into Final or not, LIn Dan will be the 1st seed of WC. CHEN Jin will be in the same half with LEE Chong Wei instead of LIN Dan in WC.

Yeah...I would second that! I don't think Kido/Hendra have played Cai/Fu before. It's about time they meet each other since both have similar attacking styles.
Just a slight diversion from the HK Open, I was quite impressed with the attcking style displayed by Frans Kurniawan/Rendra Wijaya (Candra's brother) over the past 2 days in the Singapore Satelitte. With more experience, they should have enough fire power to be a strong doubles pair in the main squad (probably in 1 or 1.5 years time?). On the other hand, Yoga Ukikasah/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki (ranked 35) were not really impressive in their struggle to beat a Malaysian pair yesterday. It was only that the critical stage (down 17-19) that they show some of their potential

Err...this is not true...as event has posted earlier. At most, Lin Dan can only get 35803 as he won the HK Open last year. So, if he does not win this year, he will still risk losing some ranking points. On the other hand, LCW's ranking point is 37953 and since he is the runners-up of the HK Open last year, the lowest point he get is 37953-810 = 37143. Therefore, LCW will still be the no 1 seed for the WC.
As for Chen Jin, his current ranking point is 32329 (10 tournaments). If he wins the HK Open, his ranking point will increase to 35419, whereas, if he loses today, his point will be 33819 which is below Peter Gade's. So, he will be either the 3rd or 4th seed depending on whether he can beat LCW today.
In addition, it's not guaranteed that Chen Jin is guaranteed to be drawn in the same half as LCW. It all depends on the luck of the draw!

You're right. I forget that the Points Regulations was reformed. But, anyway, CHEN Jin will be still in the same half with LEE Chong Wei, because the top 2 players of the same association, despite their world ranking, should be in different half during a certain tournament according to the IBF regulation.

what you guys calculating about?
WC draw will be as simple as follows:
1 quarter: Lee CW
2 quarter: Chen Jin
3 quarter: Gade P
4 quarter: Lin D
it will be the same no matter what the outcome of HK open, right?

Err...I believe the way IBF draws the third and fourth seed may not be the same for every tournament. It could be as what you write, but, it may also be switched. So, LCW or Lin Dan does have to play either one of CJ or PG.

no. Since Lin D and Chen J come from the same association, they have to be in different halves. :D

You are right! After some checks, I discover that Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan have indeed beaten Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun in the Malaysia Open 2004 17-16, 15-12. A close scoreline which can be repeated if both pairs win their matches today!

thanks for the info guys...hmm, interesting, but remember their meeting was more than 2 yrs ago..Yet both have garnered much experiences since, esp. Fu/Cai, as they were competing in the WC last yr...Nonetheless, it should be a very tantalizing Final if they both should meet again, with Fu/Cai still beaming with confidence after they overcame Tony/Candra..But first thing first, both of them got to take care of business in the Semifinals...;)

indra,
i understand you are trying to "balance things" and "look from different perspective", which is fine. But let me mention this again, maybe just to shine on the main point:
I suppose you are quite familiar w/one of our countrymen, Tony Gunawan, correct? Now, in your honest opinion, do you think if Tony was in that particular situation, w/linejudge making a questionable call, do you think he will behave and act like what Taufik did??..Remember, both(Taufik & Tony) are Olympic and World Champions.. ;) :)
Now, the only thing i'm looking for now, as sort of a redemption from Taufik, is somekind of an "apology" statement of his behavior/reaction, even a simple one, even if he still feels he was wronged or "unfairly treated"; just like what our friend taufik-ist did in here..;)

There are many comments directed against him because he is wrong in this situation. Sometimes you need to take some disciplinary actions when someone does something bad.

I can't see "you are trying to see things from different perpectives" especially from the past threads you have been posted!!!
Everyone have their rights to support his/her players or else. You also can "die die" support Taufik and put him as your hero in your heart forever. But what I can found is, you seldom be neutrality in your threads!!! All the times, no matter how Taufik lost, you have so many excuses for him and always post Taufik and other players like Sony and Simon will become champion before the tournaments begin.
When other peoples post their obeservaton & criticism on Taufik, you tatally can't accept and still be obstinated to protest.

Beautifully stated! I mean if you look at Tony's achievement he won a few more titles than Taufik (eg. All England & 1 Additional World Championship) but he's always humble and respectful of other players.

oh well, whenever the matches will start, please somebody post the results
damn, this taufik fiasco is bigger than the tournament itself
hehe, sorry for "hyping" it up and making a big stir...maybe we're the only ones from this forum making it "sounds/seems bigger" than what it is(maybe the players, organizers are over it already)..?!?!(shoulder shrugs)..
crazy isn't it, the guy has been eliminated(by himself) and sent home, yet he's the one making all the "news"..:p  :D

I think Taufik would have woken up this morning hating himself for what he did. He needs to check his blood pressure.

well, you might be right, X Ball..But even if he goes to WC, next month, he will have a "bull's eye" on his back(not only from the medias, fans alike, but also from LinDan, as he will look to finish the match)..so, for Taufik, might as well skip it, heh??..:p  ;)
No way! We want the best players at the WC. Though Taufik is not at his best currently, he's still one of the best and when he's at his best, no one can touch him. Unfortunately for us, Taufik is rarely at his best.

Yes, we definitely want Taufik to play. No way we let him off the hook after all his posturing over the last 6 months and recent hijinx. He said the WC was his target so he he'll have no excuses if he performs poorly. Then we'll see who the real Taufik really is.

Well, basically, he's painted himself into a corner, and this corner is called the WC. No more hiding, no more excuses. He claimed this was the tournament for him and his preparations have been geared towards this.
I suppose if he performed well, we'd hail him as "the amazing Taufik" and I can live with that. But if he bombs, I don't want to hear any more lame excuses from his blind, fanatical lemmings.
