View Full Version : AS-1
shaun 06-25-2001, 08:45 PM Has anyone tried the Carlton AS-1? I just found out the specs on it recently and its quite intriguing.....89g, ab head and some kind of slim shaft( is it like the 7mm swing power shaft?) and has the high tension head that can take up to 40lb....which means that the head is durable! WOHOO(something i'm looking for haha).
so if anyone has tried one, please share your comments and thoughts on this racquet.... i might want one ^_^
As1 is probably one of the best all time rackets carlton has ever produced. The shaft is more like a cube towards Head.
I think it has the best Balance for an offensive racket.AB 1000 is probably the best balanced racket in the Carlton range of rackets.
AB 900 is the best Offensive racket in the Carlton racnge of Rackets.
I think AS 1 sync both of these and is probably the Best racket fro an all round player.
Man, the fact that it is so cheap i think u should go and get one Tomm.
It is 51USD only!
Ricky 06-26-2001, 12:33 AM Quite agree with the comparison b/w AB900, AB1000 and AS-1. However whether AS-1 is the best Carlton racquet so far should be a personal preference. In addition, I found that AS-1 is relatively stiffer among these three racquets.
As I shared earlier, AS-Ti has been arrived for sometime and I found that it is very similar to AS-1. So you may buy AS-Ti instead if you don't own both racquets.
Dennis 06-26-2001, 12:50 AM Yogesh, where can you get that racket for $51US? Is it in the middle east or asia?
TrunkZ69 06-26-2001, 02:42 AM i wish to come up on one of those AS-Ti's also. So does it have a slim shaft?
Dennis,
U get the AS 1for USd 51 in India.
Hope this helps
It's really a very nice balanced racket. But unfortunately it's got that torsion problem (due to that low kickpoint-system) like allmost every other carlton racket (except AB900 and ABrasmussen as far as I know). But just better test it yourself by twisting the head of the racket while keeping the handle steady (maybe they got rid of that problem by now). The loss of control isn't that dramatical for us amateurs anyway, because we don't hit that hard.
That's what a carlton person told me inoffically, when I asked him about that torsion problem.
Blitz 06-26-2001, 08:07 AM Can it be found in Singapore too? I'm now using AB1000 and really like it till now which make me change my mindset towards non-Yonex racquets too. Will it be very difficult for me to adapt to AS-1?
Thanks! :)
Ricky 06-26-2001, 08:18 PM AB1000 and AS-1 have quite different characteristics. If you like AB1000 so much, I'm not sure whether you will find AS-1 handy. In short, AS-1 is stiffer and its balance is much more towards the racquet head.
I personally still can't find totally at home with Carlton racquets so far, but I also found AB1000 excellent in terms of maneuverability. For AS-1, I' had stopped using it after a few games even though I found that it is very powerful - I just can't have my shots precise enough with it.
Blitz 06-27-2001, 12:14 AM I see, so it's slightly more head heavy is it?
Thanks Ricky!
Ricky 06-27-2001, 12:28 AM I would say the difference is quite substantial. AS-1 is a head heavy racquet (probably not as head heavy as AB900) but AB1000 is a head light racquet.
Blitz 06-27-2001, 12:42 AM I see....
Thanks a lot. Well I seems to have problems with head heavy racket, so I think I will have to skip AS-1 :(
modious 06-27-2001, 12:48 AM Get the MP 100! It's even balanced! :p
Blitz 06-27-2001, 12:56 AM Psycho me again heh heh
But funny ah, modious. Even though it says even balance on the shaft, how
come
I keep have the feeling that it's head heavy when I hold it..... Do you have
feel this way too?
modious 06-27-2001, 01:05 AM Yeah, it kind of feels head heavy.
But it's supposed to be even balanced.
Look into my eyes.....
U will buy the MP 100, u will buy the MP 100!
modious 06-27-2001, 01:07 AM So is it even balaced or head heavy??
Hmm....
Blitz 06-27-2001, 01:09 AM Hahaha really cannot "tahan" u :P
But I will really like a 3U version of it if I really wanna get one. Wonder where can I get it :(
Blitz 06-27-2001, 01:14 AM I'm really not sure too, it sure feels head heavy to me.......How did the others in this forum commented?
