hmm, with the injury suffered by ZN in the recent HK Open, which I hope it's not serious and she can still compete, my bet will be on XXF...However, she could challenge the up-and-coming JiangYJ..

Who cares voting for WS, it's a done deal the title will go to someone from CHN.....making this the most boring event in any tournament....you know, lack of competition and lack of surprises...

I don't tihnk there needs to be so many options!
ZN or XXF Can't decide which. Prefer ZN though.
One upset in an early round could change the whole face of the draw an give oppurtunity to someone.
Realisticly only Xie Xingfang, Zhang Ning stand a very high chance of winning this title while Wang Chen, Pi Hongyan, Hu are the dark houses. Wong Miew Choo plays as a potential spoiler. My pick : XXF

XXF has a big amibition to repeat her senior success YeZY in consecutive years (1995 & 1997). I guess XXF will do it again!

Finals Zhang Ning Vs Xie Xingfang for sure.
Only Zhang Ning or Xie XingFang realistically will win. I would say that there is a 90% chance that either of these two will win and a 10% chance that someone else will win.

Well, i would say barring any major injuries, it's going to be 99.999% either XXF or ZN who will win it..;)
Off note:Looking at all the posts going in XXF's favor, hopefully this doesn't signal a "jinx" for her..hehe:p ;)

I Agree. It is much higher than 10%. I beleive the statistics of the tournament where they have both entered would say that one of them have won them much more than 90% of the time.
The voting is still in favour of Zhang Ning though......

seems to be impossible if any of those non-china players win the world title... But something is stoping me from voting ZN and clicked for Wong Mew Choo instead :D

hehe, i know the poll voting is still in favor of ZN, but i was referring to the posts mentioning/favoring that of XXF(i believe it's 6-5 or 6-4). The rest are either WMC or 50-50 between XXF or ZN..;)

Fransisca Ratnasari is now ranked 47. It will be a good achievement if she reaches Round of 32.

I'll go out on a limb here and say Judith!Well, considering she's not in the draw (http://www.badmintoninternational.net/wcdraw/ws.xls), you'd best keep one hand firmly on the trunk when venturing out.

WS is boring. Only Judith from Netherlands and ex-Chinese player could win in major tournaments this year. Zhang Ning and Xie Xing Fang still my favourites to won this tournament. Judith is not in the list because Netherlands only may represent by 2 players since Judith is not in top 10. Netherlands will be rerpresented by Mia Audina and Yao Jie, if I don't mistake. Do you think that Mia will become a dark horse..??

Badminton: Redraw has Mew Choo up against the top seed from China
PENANG: 'Out of the frying pan and into the fire' would best describe the situation of Wong Mew Choo after the redraw on Tuesday night for the World Badminton Championships' women's singles competition.
MEW CHOO: Likely to face top seed Zhang Ning in the third round
In the original draw last Friday, the Malaysian number one was drawn in the bottom half and she was tipped to play against second seed Xu Huaiwen of Germany in the third round.
In the redraw, Mew Choo goes to the top half and is on collision course with top seed Zhang Ning in the third round.
The Malaysian, who has yet to register victory over a top Chinese shuttler, has a 0-4 career record against the world number one.
Mew Choo, the 13th seed, will now open her campaign against Taiwan's Chien Yu-chin and she is expected to take on Indonesia's Fransisca Ratnasari in the second round.
In two of her previous appearances in the World Championships, the 2003 SEA Games gold medallist, who is ranked 18th in the world, was eliminated in the second round.
“I know it is going to be very difficult but I try not to think too far ahead as it will only make me disoriented during matches,” said Mew Choo, who now in training in Madrid with the national squad.
“I try to keep it simple by only concentrating on one game at a time and give my best when on the court. It will be good if I can do better than previously in the world meet.”
The other Malaysian women's singles player, M. Sutheaswari, will play against Slovakia's Tvrdy Maja in the first round and is expected to face Hong Kong's Yip Pui Yin in the next round.
Zhang Ning, who won the world title in 2003, together with her compatriot and defending champion, Xie Xingfang, and former China player Huaiwen are the favourites to emerge as the champions in the tournament, which begins in Madrid on Monday.
But Mew Choo has been tagged as one of the players who could spring surprises following her impressive performances this year against higher ranked opponents.
And the 23-year-old believes that the good publicity accorded to her as well as to the world number eight women's doubles pair of Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui is good to improve the standard of women's badminton in Malaysia.
“In the last two decades, the standard of the Malaysian women's badminton players was poor and only the men were sent for international assignments,” said Mew Choo.
“We may still lag behind our male counterparts but I am happy that we are beginning to make a mark on the international stage.
“There is good interest and support for Malaysian women's badminton now. So, it is important for us to produce encouraging performances, especially in the World Championships.”
Besides the victory in the 2003 SEA Games, Mew Choo also played a big part in helping Malaysia clinch the mixed team gold medal and the women's singles silver in the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in March.

Badminton: Redraw has Mew Choo up against the top seed from Chin
(rest of article snipped for brevity)..thx for sharing the article, cooler..;)
Hmm, it should be quite an interesting match, if both should meet up in the QF..Esp. interesting to see how prepare Ms. Wong will be in the upcoming WC, as she probably had enough training and sparring time and perhaps could give Zhang Ning a run for her money, with some tips & tricks of her own, aided by Zhou Mi... ;)
I want to excite a little and voted for young Jiang Yanjiao even though I've hardy hear her name. But if her younger sisters in badminton, (like Zhu Lin?) is anything to judge by, she must be pretty good herself.

hmm, seems like everyone is skipping her name in here...:p
Remember, last yr she came out of nowhere and nearly stunned everyone watching at the Anaheim Pond, around the world watching the WC for that matter, by going all the way to the Semis....Now, a yr later, eventhough she didn't accomplish any major victories during this span, can she repeat her performance this yr, by sneaking up everyone and going deep again??..we shall see.. ;)
