Greetings,
This thread is a continuation from our 1st thread = http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32267 (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34473)
Because of the change to our new Session's Fee Structure, this 2nd thread is created.
========================
Please respond if interested.

In the CATS's session, COACHING AND TRAINING are the main activities involved, with a few PRACTICE GAMES being played at the end of the session.
Link is = http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35687
In CATS, we have 2 objectives:
1. To help those who are beginners to get to know the game quicker.
2. To provide experienced players with a venue to train.
COACHING is performed by Mr Chris Hoh who has over 20 years of badminton coaching experience, yet is innovative in his coaching techniques. You will receive invaluable information/instruction/demonstration of different SKILLS from him.
Our CCC Friday Social (max 32 players only) = Concentrate on Playing Games.
The PLAYING OF GAMES is the only activity involved in this session.
However, we have an interesting Handicapped Competition for players to participate in during this session.
Payment Structure
A different fee structure (different from our Wednesday CATS) will apply;
Club Member: $8 per session
Casual Visitor: $10 per session
BTW, our Club's Fees Structure is reviewed every 3 months. This is to ensure that the fees collected will meet our costs for shuttles and court hire.
If you do not wish to join the Forum @BadmintonCentral, you can email us direct: chris@cccbadminton.com
We will send you 2 Attachments; namely our Address/Map of the Venue and our Membership Form.
PS: Our venue has 4 courts.
On Wednesday, 3 courts are used for CATS and 1 for friends/parents/drivers to play Social Games.
On Friday, all 4 courts are used for Social Games.

CCC Shuttles Policy
CCC members have to remember:
Our club's charges are dependent on our club's expenses.
If we spend more on the use(ie, the quantities) and on the purchase cost for shuttles, the cost will be passed on to the our members.
I always say that, at the end of your game, if the shuttle is still good, place that good shuttle under the net, in the middle of the court.
The next lot of players should warm up with older shuttles from the tray.
When they are ready to start their game, they should then use the shuttle that is placed under the net, in the middle of the court.

Hi everyone@ccc,
Still have one more thread to create, a thread for CATS@MSAC Sunday 10:00am-12:00noon.
Now and then, MSAC cancels our sessions there, so it is important to have a thread for MSAC.

Yschin, I already downloaded and watched the match between LCW/CJ (thanks to all the BC members who uploaded the video). Very intense rubber set. Too bad, LCW lost again to LD in final. You should also watch the MD final match. The new Indo pairs have extreme powerful smash from both players. This year HK Open is definitely well worth the money for people who went there to watch.

Hi Guys,
Malaysia lost both singles and doubles in HK Open 06, very very close third games too. :crying:
I cannot believe it... I may have to change my username to BadLuck soon.
It stands for Badminton Luck and also Bad Luck. ;)
Hopefully this will change the fortune of the Malaysian shuttlers in the future.:p

CCC Badminton Friendly Match: Monday 4-Sep-2006
Hi everyone@ccc,
When I came back from coaching today I found a reply from Wesley Club.
====== start mail ======
I have hired 2 extra courts (courts 8 & 9 I think) one from 7.30 to 10.00pm and the other from 8.00pm to 10.30pm. I would like our Wesley players to pay $8 for the night due to the extra costs incurred. CCC players will also be paying $8.00 each.
Supper will be organised after badminton at:
Three Gorges Restaurant, 173 Exhibition Street, Melbourne City.
Let me know early tomorrow night if you are intending to come for supper and we will make contact with the restaurant with numbers.
Regards... John Weisheit
======= end mail =======
So, to us@ccc, Good Luck and Enjoy tomorrow night, Monday 4-Sep-2006.
Our players participating are
1) DoublesPlease
2) Fuji
3) BadFever
4) LChow
5) Jason-F
6) jo3ker
7) andrewlyw
8) kwongj
So, could these players please confirm your participation with me.
The Friendly Match starts at 7:30pm and expects to finish at 10:30pm.
Because yschin and Kim are doubtful to come on time, they have been left out. But you two should come if you can make it. Just in case one of our players is unavailable at the last moment, you can be the replacement.
You two and I can still play as Social Players on the night. I have been left out because they reckon that my skill level is too strong for this Friendly Match.
Our 8 players participating are to inform me of your partnerships, ASAP. This is because we are to have 4 Doubles Partnerships, each of our 4 Doubles is to play each of Wesley's 4 Doubles.
Therefore, our Friendly Match will result in a total of 16 matches.
Also, please confirm your attendance to supper with me. I am to inform John our numbers.
To those coming to supper: Please jot down the address of the restaurant.
To others@ccc: Come and Cheer our CCC Team. And you can also play at the Wesley's Session as a Casual Visitor. Just say that Chris invited you there. And join us for supper too.
Cheers... chris@ccc

Hi Chris@CCC! :)
Hehe... I'm up late checking what's been happening to CCC in the past few days!!! Miss you guys, too!!! I thought of you guys a few times while I was up there~
The ski trip was good! ;)
Friday was not bad - but the visibility wasn't so good - still ok though...
Saturday was absolutely beautiful, but after dinner, it started raining, lightening & thunder were all happening on Sat night... :(
Sunday was just terrible!!! It felt like a "typhoon" - so windy and visibility was so poor that we didn't manage to have a last ski in the morning before we left. :crying:
Overall, it was still quite enjoyable la~ :p
Give me a day off tomorrow please~ :)
However, my spirits will be with you all at Wesley!!! :) :)
I will see you guys on Friday nights!!! ;)
Cheers! ^_^

Hi Chris, I am not sure if it's too late to notify you but I am 50/50 on attending tonight friendlies. I will most likely going to turn up but because I finish work late, I am not sure what time I can reach MSAC. As for supper, as long as I don't die from exhaustion, then I will go to supper with you guys. :) As for partner, I also don't have any cos I am not sure if Kim is going or not. See you tonight.
We could pair up and start at 8.00 PM.

Greetings,
OK... This is ”The Schedule” for our Friendly Match tonight, Monday 4-Sep-2006.
CCC and Wesley will form 4 Doubles Pairs for each Club.
Let us call them C1, C2, C3 and C4 for CCC, and W1, W2, W3 and W4 for Wesley.
The Schedule:
C1 Vs W1
C2 Vs W2
C3 Vs W3
C4 Vs W4
C1 Vs W2
C2 Vs W1
C3 Vs W4
C4 Vs W3
C1 Vs W3
C2 Vs W4
C3 Vs W1
C4 Vs W2
C1 Vs W4
C2 Vs W3
C3 Vs W2
C4 Vs W1
A total of 16 Matches.
Do not worry too much if you can't be there by 7:15pm.
Since our CCC's Doubles Pairs are not fixed yet(except for DoublesPlease & Fuji, forming as Team C1), we can form our C2, C3 and C4, as you arrive there.
I know Wesley club very well. And I have been a club member of Wesley for years(6 years, I think). And this is only a Friendly Match. So if you are late, we will manage/improvise the schedule as the night progresses.
To Fuji: We will talk about supper when we get there. You should come to supper because I am bringing 2 bottles of wine and Wesley players are bringing more wine for you too.
To BadFever: You can come later. No Worries !!!
To Kim: Glad that you will be there. I have not heard from jo3ker, so you could be the replacement for him and partner BadFever for the night.
To yschin: As I said in my earlier post, please come even if you are late. We can play Social Badminton for the night.
To other participants: You, namely; Jason-F, LChow, andrewlyw and kwongj will form the other 2 Doubles Pairs as you arrive.
To our CCC Cheering Squad: How come there is no news from you guys? So far Lisa-C is the only one coming to support/cheer our CCC Team.
See you all tonight.
Cheers... chris@ccc

Has anyone been to the oakleigh recreation centre for badminton?
http://www.monash.vic.gov.au/recreation/recoakleigh.html
One of my friend went to a badminton tournament recently called JTUltra badminton tournament at Oakleigh and he found out that the back tram lines of badminton were of color green (as shown in one of the photo in the aboved link) and volleyball lines with the color white.
And he also wait 3 hours for his match.

Hi everyone@CCC! :)
How did CCC go last night?
kwongj
09-05-2006, 03:46 AM
on what was a very fun occasion, CCC unfortunately went down to wesley 0-16!!
without trying to make excuses, i think there were several things that contributed to the scoreline:
1) we didn't play well - lots of uncharacteristics unforced errors
2) using the old points scoring system
3) an unfamiliar venue - i know i missed a few easy shots when the shuttle was lost in the lights on the sides
4) CHRIS DIDN'T PLAY - we needed our star player! :P
i do think that sometimes it's difficult for us to practice being consistent in rallies with our current social playing arrangement on friday nights, since we don't have a lot of rallies in some games. but then again, i guess that's what a social night is about.
having said that, wesley were very friendly and the games were played in good spirit.
any reports from supper?

Hey Jason, the score is 1-15. Jason-F and Joe did win 1 game at the end. but yeah.. we made a lot of mistakes and not as consistent as Wesley, but it's all good fun. I just really like the surface, much more grippy and easier to move around the court. :D

4) CHRIS DIDN'T PLAY - we needed our star player! :P
Then again, there were loads of people who want to play for CCC but couldn't play. So for Chris to patcipate, someone would have be taken out.
3) an unfamiliar venue - i know i missed a few easy shots when the shuttle was lost in the lights on the sides
I agree. The lighting is drastically different especially at night where I used to go to Box hill at CCC which is smiliar to Glen Waverly (bright light from the top) as opposed to side light from MSAC.
2) using the old points scoring system
Some people just refuse to change, still some competition (CBA for once) still using the old scoring system.
For your match summary, I can also add another thing. For our "lower level" interclub competition against Highvale club, we had 3 pair who pair regularly together for the last few weeks. Maybe if you guys play together everyweek, you have a much better chance.
Hence, regular partnership is encouraged. Best of luck next time.
By the way, who was the captain of CCC for the nite?

Hi everyone@CCC! :)
How did CCC go last night?
Hi LilyC,
I had an assignment to do coaching today. And when I was driving home from coaching, I thought to myself; “I am sure LilyC will post, asking where is report for last night's Friendly Match?”
And I was right.
Anyway, here are the results of our Friendly Match last night, Monday 4-Sep-2006.
CCC(1) :Wesley(15)
A shocker??? Too one-sided???... you would say.
Did Chris mismatch the two teams?
Well, the answer will be based on 4 factors that I like to mention.
(1) As I have told you before the match... that I know of Wesley's strength, as I was a club member(not just a casual visitor) of Wesley for 6 years. But for this Friendly Match, Wesley did not think of using just club members, they were also using their better regular casual visitors(non-members) to play against CCC. This was not what I had expected. Therefore, “BOOM!!!” and my equation did not balance. But they were kindly thinking of giving their better regular casual visitors a chance to participate as well. Unfortunately, I was not to know.
(2) Also, our top/strongest CCC members, BadFever, andrewghw and myself did not play. BadFever was not included because he told me he was only 50/50 chance to arrive on time, so I thought he should just participate in the Wesley's Social Session. Then, andrewghw was not included because he has not joined CCC membership when we were in the planning stages. And I was not included because I would be too strong to play against the Wesley's team.
(3) Our CCC members, as directed/suggested by me, are to participate and to enjoy the night. We did not go there to do “BATTLE”. Only one of our regular partnerships(Fuji+DoublesPlease) was used. Our other 3 partnerships were almost “scratch pairs”.
(4) However, I would like to say that Wesley's club members(not just their better casual visitors) did play better than they would have done normally. So,
Congratulations to those Wesley members, and I know them all.
But you might want to know how the strength of the 2 clubs compares. Well, if only members(no casual visitors) were to be participating, I would think the result would be CCC(10) :Wesley(6). With BadFever, Kim, andrewghw and myself, CCC would be just a little bit stronger.
But after saying that, you can check on whether I am right or wrong when we play our Return Match in 2 months' time(in November). This time, BadFever, andrewghw and myself will play.
But for a Friendly Match, it is not the winning or losing that counts. It is the friendship and enjoyment of some good games that matters.
Here are the details;
CCC Team
C1 = Fuji + DoublesPlease
C2 = Jason K + andrewlyw
C3 = kwongj + jo3ker
C4 = LChow + Kim
Wesley Team
W1 = Vincent + Andrew
W2 = Michael + Cliff
W3 = John + Steven
W4 = Jack + Andy
The Winners:
C1 Vs W1 ...... W1 ...... 21-13
C2 Vs W2 ...... W2 ...... 21-5
C3 Vs W3 ...... W3 ...... 21-9
C4 Vs W4 ...... W4 ...... 21-17
C1 Vs W2 ...... W2 ...... 21-17
C2 Vs W1 ...... W1 ...... 21-11
C3 Vs W4 ...... W4 ...... 21-7
C4 Vs W3 ...... W3 ...... 21-10
C1 Vs W3 ...... W3 ...... 21-19
C2 Vs W4 ...... W4 ...... 21-10
C3 Vs W1 ...... W1 ...... 21-9
C4 Vs W2 ...... W2 ...... 21-16
C1 Vs W4 ...... C1 ....... 21-18
C2 Vs W3 ...... W3 ...... 23-20
C3 Vs W2 ...... W2 ...... 21-6
C4 Vs W1 ...... W1 ...... 21-12
A total of 16 Matches.
And Congratulations to Fuji + DoublesPlease for winning 1 match for CCC.
I have suggested to Jason-F some weeks ago, when I was partnering him at one of our Friday Socials, that he and many of our other club members should attend CATS when we do the chapter on “Players' Positions When Playing Level Doubles”. Many of us do not know this subject well. And when we play Level Doubles, we find that each player is looking/guessing where his/her partner will be staying/going. There is a standard way to position ourselves in Level Doubles, and I will teach you how.
BTW, once we have learned the correct way of covering the court as a pair, we should not only perform better, but we should enjoy better, the game of Level Doubles.
The chapter on “Players' Positions When Playing Level Doubles” will be in 8 weeks' time(ie Wednesday 25-Oct-2006). So, please note this in your diary.
Wow, what a long report.
I am glad that everyone enjoyed this Friendly Match.
But before I sign off, we have to thank Wesley for hosting the event.
I have organised our Return Match to be held in November. And it will be played at our CCC home ground. I am sure BadFever, andrewghw and yschin are all looking forward to play in that match.
Oh, the Supper Report: 11 players(4 from CCC, 7 from Wesley) attended the supper at Three Gorges Restaurant, 173 Exhibition Street, Melbourne City. There was a contribution of 5 bottles of wine, but only 3 were consumed. The dishes were quite good.
I would also like to thank LisaC for coming to cheer on our CCC team, and for doing our Scoreboard with her beautiful handwriting. And did you all notice she had a few hits at the end of the night, barefooted on the Commonwealth Games Badminton Carpet?
Well Done, LisaC!!!
Cheers... chris@ccc

From a spectator's point of view, everyone played extremely well on Monday.. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the night...
No need to thank me for coming on Monday, I didn't really do a good job at cheering, LChow and KwongJ wouldn't stop over at my place and let me bring my pom pom and cheerleading outfit :(.. oh well, next time... :)
Hope u guys weren't feeling too sore on tuesday...See u all on friday!!:D

Hi all,
Thanks again to Chris for organising the friendlies... and also to all of us for participating.
Our (Peter and I) matches were close and I have got to say we're evenly match. I myself made too many silly mistakes, let's call them 'unforced errors'. :o
C1 Vs W1 ...... 13-21
C1 Vs W2 ...... 17-21
C1 Vs W3 ...... 19-21
C1 Vs W4 ...... 21-18
"I still cannot feel my arms and legs...":crying:
Our 2nd and 3rd games were exhaustingly long, however they were enjoyable. I just wish my body was as strong as my mind. Luckily, I did not collapse and still managed to finish all the games.
Supper was really good. Not sure if it was the food, the company or the wine...? :D I would say it would be a combination of the above. Nice bunch of people.;)
Looking forward to the return match.
So... I heard we would get our own cheer leaders with poms poms in the return match? ;)
Take care and see you all at a badminton court real soon.
Cheers,
Kee

Thanks for organising the friendlies for us. Win or lose is not important. I am pretty sure all of us enjoyed the games very much. It was my first time playing on the tournament mat, very good indeed.
As for supper, nothing much to talk about. Oh yes, we had duck tongue dish. I didn't eat any but Doublesplease ate a few. So, he can have the honor of elaborating on this dish.

Hi Chris & everyone@CCC! :)
Yeah... I was a bit shocked when I saw the results. :o
BUT firstly, let me congratulate you all for completing all the matches and found it enjoyable~ well done! Still very proud of you all~ :) :)
Secondly, I agree with Chris - being a friendly match - "it's not the winning or losing that counts"~ so no need to feel upset oh~ :) :) :)
3 cheers for CCC players & 3 more cheers for Wesley players.
Another successful friendly match! ;)
Cheers.

Sadly, somewhere out there in the land of lost souls is a duck whose last experience on earth was the taste of my tongue ... bound to be worth a few karma points.
As for the taste, it was ... duck. Handy size for chopsticks but I can't, and nor I would bet could Darwin, explain the bone.

Hi all,
Surely missed all the fun of the recent friendlies, supper ,wine, duck tongue etc
I partnered Fuji all night (Wed Social) last night and without him playing his usual game we lost all our games even when leading 20-10. I believed he has yet to recover from Monday I recommend he switch from wine to the black Irish stout for quick recovery. I am not advocating alcohol is good but we are all talking about "everything in moderation".
While resting by the courtside last night , one idea came to mind. Watching how active and high some of you can jump. Maybe we can have a basketball friendly between higher and lower level among our club members. 1/2 to 45min on Friday?

Thanks mate... I was waiting for you to carry me over the line:D. My limbs are coming back to me now, Friday's social should/will be fine. As for recovery, sleeping and resting are still the best mate.

TO Chris:
i cannot come this friday due to the following
- recursive wrist injury: i really cannot DAB at the end of wednesday nite
- toe problem: it still bother me when i bounce
With respect to the above, i want to rest for the Melbourne U tournament (D grade single) on sat day. Unfortunately i would be the only CCC representative this time, unless we hear from Robbo77 or you count Tim+Merisa in. Wish me luck!
To Chiranthi:
Sorry to let you know so late i won't be coming this friday. I still hope on this wedneday i could come on friday (read the above section for Chris). Have loads of fun anyway! I am sure supper would not be the same without my "Bad" jokes.

Good idea, i can see this "thing" getting developed! You gotta be careful though, with basketball played instead of badminton. We just might be wearing knee brace much sooner!
Half court would mean 3 on 3, right?
By the way, i made my first $$ as a primary teacher today while replacing someone as a casual relief teacher. Is this cause for celebration?! I can no longer stay behind for supper on wed day nite cos i need to be ready at 7:15am in case someone got sick, and i had to replace the teacher.

To yschin, Fuji, andrewlyw & hkhung,
Please hold your horses.
We need to do 2 things before we want to start Basketball at CCC.
(1) Ask permission from the owner of the gym.
At the present moment, our hire is for Badminton use only.
There was another group who uses the gym(on another night) who got into trouble with the owner of the gym because they played Table Tennis there.
I will quote the mail sent out by the gym owner.
====== start mail ======
Hello again to you all. Trust that you are enjoying the facility.
The matters in this update:
1. It's come to our attention that a certain gym user group has been going up to the mezzanine and taking the table tennis tables out of their locks and using them. This has resulted in gouging in and blue paint on the walls. The table tennis tables are not to be used by any group. They are for school use only. Thank you to those users who did ask in person if they could be used.
2. We are currently adding a cancellation clause into our gym hire policy. I will forward this to you when the clause has been implemented.
3. Thanks for the careful use of the gym. Security, care of equipment and lighting has been a seldom problem. Your constant attention to these matters is very much appreciated.
Let me know if you have any queries or wish to give feedback.
====== end mail ======
To which I replied with firmness;
====== start reply ======
Thank you for your mail.
Well, I know it wasn't us. Our players do not even to go upstairs to the mezzanine floor at all.
We are there for BADMINTON ONLY.
I think that we have looked after the Gym in a good or proper manner. And I think we all love the Gym and we will take proper care for it.
Regards... chris@ccc
====== end reply ======
(2) Let us also check with all other CCC members first.
As for some members, they might find that the noise from the bouncing basketball could throw them off during a rally.
Those who have been coached by me will tell you that I have coached them this;
“Only move after you have heard the sound of impact of the shuttle from your opponent's racket, otherwise you could be wrong-footed”.
So, Badminton does not disturb Basketball, but Basketball does disturb Badminton.
Solution: If we can get the permission to play Basketball, we will close down all Badminton courts at about 9:45pm or 10:00pm and we can all play Basketball until 10:30pm.
Please add your comments.
Cheers... chris@ccc

Hi Chris,
Oops... Was getting too excited about Basketball and did not think about 'other' factors. Sorry.:o
Like you have said, we better check with the owner and also the players. Maybe the players coming to the Friday social games only want badminton games and not basketball?
Cheers and thanks again for sorting things out for us. ;)
Either way, I am cool. No worries mate.
See you tonight,

*BadFever feels himself, that with a higher tension, he(BadFever) is smashing better.

Eventhough i did not go to the supper, i still get mentioned in the report?!
Anyway, i went to the Melbourne Uni tournament full of optimism. Afterwards, that was totally misplaced. The D-grade there is really strong.
There were many familiar faces, overall i knew a lot of people either form
- doncaster DTBA (Eric Chai and his mixed doubles partner Elena, Will)
- CCC (Michael+Simon playing D grade double - what the?!, Tiara and Merisa who play ladies D grade double, James, Merissa, Carl, Anthony who play B grade, Kitty - who i presume was organizing the B grade event)
- some people from CBA, another Peter and his asian partner who play Fuji+doublesPlease in CBA - they play D grade double, the CBA d grade men's single champ who play B grade single at Melbourne U
- sunday Msac group (Jenny and Jerry who play D mixed double, Zheng who i think is playing on sunday - A or C grade)
I fill in for D grade double and lost the game. Apprarently if you lose in first round, you get consolation. I lost that one too.
I got thrashed really badly at my D single, lost to a kid called Claude Lam (Chris - does this name ring a bell for you?) 21-2. This kid was very accurate in smash + placement in the corner. Lost the consolation game as well with a smiliar score.
After game, my doubles partner shout me for a ice chocolate and a cake. So i guess things even out at the end.

Hi BAdfever,
World Senior Badminton Championship will be hosted in TAipei 2007 , and Lily will be our host there , how abt that?
For all bad fans, the World Champ starting 18/9 - LCW ranked 1 & LD is 2. Taufik unseeded?? LCW & Chen Jin in top half of draw and Taufik , Peter Gade & LD in bottom half. It will be interesting if Taufik to meet Peter Gade in 1/4 final. All 'traditional - old scoring ' bad fan will love to see them play - simple tactical basics stroke.

Hi Lily,
That was announced by IBF yesterday . But me playing in Master is only a joke , just like the basketball joke. I have seen a 62 yrs old master player beats a Malaysia U19 national trainee. We flush our head in toilet bowl just for the fun of it, you guys here are a serious lot.
No idea when or who is in it, so happen to go into World Championship draw and notice this announcement. Chen Sui Bein is surely in , he is pretty good at dodging bullet speed shuttle.

Greeting all, thought I would post a hi!!.
Just back from the Australian Open in Brisbane. A fantastic event one of the best I've attended with good atmosphere and layout. Lots of spectators throughout and interesting to see many interstate visitors & workers there too.
Here's a misc shot of the MD final..... It was a great show match for the finals between New Zealand and Aus/Indonesia combined. A 3 setter, which included a big dispute mid-game over line calls that brought in the tournament referree - quite exciting to watch.
Another good match was finals of LS with Melb local Chia-Chi winning with good tactics and nice drop shots.
Looked for badfever there but didn't see him - he would have liked the speed of the mens matches!!!

Chen Sui Bein is the president of Taiwan. Hopefully we can clear this up for people who are very busy at work everyday and don't keep up with the world politics.
Chen Sui Bein might be good at dodging them, but can he hit the shuttle? I once told someone that Arnold Schwazeneger is certainly very powerful - both personally and politically since he is a governor now, but can he play badminton?

Jo3ker, now i know who you are!
And Llewellyn did not take part.
He did play a game, reason why i remember that cos i was "replaced" by someone in that game. Anyway, while paying our money on entrance, did anyone see how red Llewellyn's eyes were? He said that he only had 4 hours of sleep.
Despite that, his smash was still pretty good though.
Once again, the waitress from ocean king had avoided us on friday. Maybe she got more work somewhere. You never know, we might bump into her in another restaurant. So, we must call on all CCC member to look for this woman.

That game wasn't a part of our CCC Handicapped Comp.

Hi everyone@CCC! :)
All keeping the shuttles flying high??? ;)
To yschin:
24-29 April 2007? - I won't be able to go back for holiday - in fact, I will be having my placement = no holiday but work! :crying:
To Chris@CCC:
Got the "paper cut" at placement this week - to be precise - it was a "foil" cut. It happened when I was preparing a dosett, as I was pushing the tablets out from the blister pack, my index finger got cut quite deep. It's recovering though! :p
To hkhung:
Sorry that you felt you were "replaced" by someone else during that match. It was my idea... don't blame Chiranthi... :o Coz when we (you&Chiranthi and Helmut&I) finished a match on court 4, I saw Llewellyn sitting at the back of the court looking bored... I thought he wanted to play but don't have a partner... so I asked if he wanted to have a hit. Of course, I didn't know he was injured. *oops*

Hi everyone@ccc,
Players@ccc are not having enough sleep
(1) hkhung said that Llewellyn had just 4 hours sleep.
(2) LisaC said she did not sleep for 48 hours when she came to play. This is too much.
(3) LilyC said exams are coming again, so she will be getting less sleep.
(4) Usually when one has not enough sleep, one sees double vision.;)
So, when playing a Game of Doubles, you will see 2 shuttles coming at you.:):)
And you playing against 4 players on the other side of the net.:):):):)
To LilyC:
(1) Llewellyn was not injured. He was just tired because of lack of sleep.
(2) Jack-Y was the one injured. Thank you for translating his Chinese message to me.
(3) I did not know the cut on your finger was that deep. Please take care.
To everyone@ccc (especially to new members/visitors):
You don't have to participate in our CCC Handicapped Competition if you don't want to.
As you know, we call our session "CCC Social Friday" not "CCC Competition Friday".
(1) It was good of LilyC to invite Llewellyn to play a social game with her, Helmut and Chiranthi last session.
(2) Fuji and DoublesPlease often split partners with their opponents for social games.
(3) In the session before last, Mei, Fony, LisaC and LilyC had social game of Ladies Doubles, which should be encouraged to be played more often.
(4) Last session, I partnered LisaC and later I partnered DoublePlease to have 2 social games.
So for those people who think that our CCC Social Friday is only for the Handicapped Competition, please be corrected.
Cheers... chris@ccc

You really have to read better/slower. I reported that Llewellyn (and also Jack-Y) did not take part in our CCC Handicapped Competition.
To Chris:
Guess i better think/look careful next time. Then again, old habits die hard ....
You might have to hit me on the head with this one again. When people decide to play friendly, what should i do on the board?
Players@ccc are not having enough sleep
I think Chirnathi is in the list as well cos she said she was worried about the result of her exam so she got no sleep on thursday nite. Hope that she is reading this forum so she can answer this one herself.
Sorry that you felt you were "replaced" by someone else during that match. It was my idea... don't blame Chiranthi...
To LilyC:
I am cool, i need a break anyway else i might get high blood pressure with all the yellings and screamming of my mis timed shot. Anyway, you are familiar with those sounds/faces that i pull for my bad shots by now.
Are you sure you should be playing badminton with your cut finger? I cut it badly once on friday CCC (on my left hand though) and had to stop for a few days. When i came back, Chris was laughing at me saying he thought that was no big deal.
(4) Usually when one has not enough sleep, one sees double vision.;)
So, when playing a Game of Doubles, you will see 2 shuttles coming at you.:):)
And you playing against 4 players on the other side of the net.
Sounds like the same effect as a drunk person?! Anyone familiar with the movie called "drunken master" by Jacky Chan?

Hey Chris/Andrew,
Unfortunately I don't know of any shops in Brissy that carry a good range of baddy equipment like here, as unlike Melb its a real small sport.
The sports shops like AMart carry afew rackets - The main seller is Brisbane Badminton Assn, who carries a full supply of products and brands at their club nights mostly Sunnybank area on the southside of Bris. Their website is www.brisbanebadminton.org (http://www.brisbanebadminton.org).
enjoy the trip!

If you were talking about racket, then try sportsmart (http://www.sportsmart.com.au/) at the end of finacial year (say July). They have shoes+racket. I pick up a armotec 500 for $100 ages ago.
But if you were talking about shoes, i recommend other brand like fila cos the hairing bone structure at the bottom of the shoe is much smaller. The smaller the hairing bone, the better it's for grip. That grip of the shoe is especially important for us who like to play net.
For shoes you need to go to their factory outlet, like fila factory outlet or nike factory outlet near the city.
Further information on how to choose of shoe, please consult Chris on supper.
If you are talking about clothes, I have yet to see Yonex shirt being sold in Melbourne.
C u friday!

Thanks for that Ken but yeah, I do know about Sportsmart but they rarely do specials on badminton racket now. I bought a MP-55 for $100 including BG65 string a long time ago from them.
But look what they've done to my beloved Armortec 700 :crying: they've painted the shaft red... it doesn't look good mixing with black on the frame. (the pic on the left)
and for you guys who's interested. the new NS7700 (the one on the right).

One more thing to add on the above, for badminton grip, if you like replacement grip (a grip that you put on top of your existing one) - you could go anywhere. But for replacement grip, not many places carry those. Even so, some of them are very expensive and charge $20.
But look what they've done to my beloved Armortec 700 :crying: they've painted the shaft red... it doesn't look good mixing with black on the frame. (the pic on the left)
I always wonder why there are 2 different color version of armotec 500/700. Could that be because they are made from different countries?

Nahhh.. Yonex sometimes release update version for some of the racquet, nothing to do with they they are manufactured. I think it's only a marketing ploy. As far as I know, AT700 has 3 colours. The original 1, then a Japan Red came out around 6mths ago.. then this latest one. Same with AT500, the new colour came out at the start of the year. ;)

LCW vs BCL
CJ vs LHI
CH vs PG
LD vs HH
I am predicting SF will be LCW vs LHI and PG vs LD. Both CJ and CH got pushed to 3 sets in their 2nd round matches and they probably are disadvangted when PG and LHI had easier victories...

Hey everyone,
As requested, here's some pics of Boston and me attending the conference. Boston's been great. The weather has been beautiful and people have been really nice and friendly. I don't notice the difference in accent much (though the texans and southernors have a really distinct one) and I've been complemented on how aussie i sound (I've been bombarded with questions regarding the croc hunter and 'CRIKEY!!'). I've had a few close calls with crossing the road, keep on forgetting I'm not at home. The food servings are huge and I'm gonna blow up into a huge whale by the time i get back, I desperately need some exercise!!! :( Laurie's well, he's currently stuck in Newcastle and I miss him lots:crying: . Hey Chris,
I believe you about the advertising. I have had a wee bit too much caffeine to do anything useful like sleep, so pumping the bellows at the babelfish forge on Bill's text yields:
Starts joins this badminton club time on to inform when the federation games starts, perhaps this membership must stop period of time, because does not have the location, therefore for lengthens two months achievement to compensate, at that time I was not that crave to play a ball game, therefore listened not to work as a matter, recently thought plays a ball game more and more could not lack, this games brings two months stops or let partner slightly melancholy. . How originally not cares about another reason is also has CCCBadminton Chris to play a ball game in the organization, actually Chris also very wants to borrow this opportunity to enlarge affects, enables everybody to be allowed to be familiar with trains the location and the way, but after Chris previous which encourages the new person to participate Email only then sends out, a sudden invitation lets this period of time the competition and the training along with it malingers, originally has two badminton national sports teams to come here to attend the competition, but as a result of all sorts of reasons, the training firmly cannot with the group, estimate these countries originally do not take the badminton, all does not have including a reserve training, The result is in local presently looks, through all sorts of channels, had found Chris, he this teaches, certainly the here training malingers along with it. . Right now evidently wanted truely to stop period of time, although also had other places to make the choice, for example Monash uni or Springvale all had the location, also some people hit, but always and weren't they familiar, how cannot organize not to want to go, if was convenient, should be Melbourne Uni recent, but did not know had the friend or the schoolmate studies in there may Booking arrive. . Also some choice is may go plays the tennis, just right Tony and Alex hit together in the organization, but worries is the tennis and the badminton sends the strength and the feeling is completely different, if really well practices plays the tennis, how then perhaps again turned head all not can play the badminton, ha-ha. . Melancholy center
Some time back in the infancy of machine translation (and to me this is the canonical example of why we should keep our eyes on these overgrown toasters) the phrase "out of sight, out of mind" was translated to russian and back; "invisible idiot" was the result. And with that, I will disappear.

I told Steve Lee (he used to come on our saturday nite CCC with his bags of shuttle for Chris. do you remember him?) about my horrendous experience of melbourne U comp. He said the same thing as you for people who normally play at C would play D at melbourne U.
Mind u, at the CBA comp, Keith (who wear dark glasses and came this past friday)'s wife realised D grade was not beginner. And Keith and his partner (D grade double got slaughtered in the first game like 21-2: old scoring system) found out the hard way.
Shame there's no such thing as E grade for me. Then again, that would be more work for the organizer, right?

Hey HK,
It'd be a busy day if Melbourne Uni opened up another grade and attracted more people. The lowest grade is always "and everyone else..." so the Monash Uni method where the grade is split after the qualifying rounds would help.
The floor at Kilsyth is significantly less slippery than last season.

Hi members@CCC,
Well, the World Badminton Championships Madrid 2006 is all over.
I missed a lot of info because my internet connection was regularly down for the past week.
Anyway, of the 5 events, 4 went to China and 1 to England.
WELL DONE CHINA & ENGLAND !!!
Here is a link(Results of Finals) from the Associated Press = http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/09/24/sports/EU_SPT_BAD_Worlds.php
IBF has changed it's name to BWF.
Taufik has been fined US$2,500.

China miss only one event!!
I remember the days china used to sweep all the table tennis event! Anyone remember an occasion when china did that in a badminton comp?
It'd be a busy day if Melbourne Uni opened up another grade and attracted more people.
Exactly, that's why they aren't opening a E grade for me. Then again, if
enough people knock on their doors .....
To andrwelyw + doublesplease:
Thanks for the info. I might think about filling in for section 7 for summer comp. Then again, after talking to Steve Lee i am still having 2nd thoughts.
To Chris, Gotem(was he there?), doublesplease (i still has goosebumps from our games on last friday), Helmut (hope to see you post on this forum, mate)+ whoever was on our wednesday nite supper after CATS that i could not remember:
Follow up on our conversation about length of tunnel between hong kong island(north of hong kong island)+kowloon via Hung hum, here's the link on another portal between west of hong kong island (Sai Ying Pun) to kowloon
http://www.westernharbourtunnel.com/infrastructure/english/infra_frame.htm
Also this link has a pdf follow up on the hung hum tunnel (which is south of kowloon)
http://www.discoverhongkong.com/hksf/tc/map/pdf/tst_hunghom_map.pdf
IBF has changed it's name to BWF
Why would they change the name? Maybe because some people has register/patent their name/website. You never know, CCC might have to change to god knows what. Don't even get into how much work it needs to be done for his "coaching" business.
Then Chris would have to find a new jacket soon cos his "coaching" jacket got CCC symbol at the front.
On a side note, for friday nite thank you for all the people who try so hard not to smash. Actually i feel sorry for smashing Keith so many times. Only when i play on sunday at Tim + Merisa's group i realise how CCC is so much more "friendlier" compared to other group when i saw people smashing left, right and center to Keith.
Anyway well done to all the -8 people for not spoling it to smash hard/smash to body!

Hi MalaysianPlayers@ccc,
At the Commonwealth Games Melbourne 2006, when I met Datuk Nadzmi Salleh, the President of BA of Malaysia, he was a happy man. He told me he was optimistic and confident that the skill/strength of our Malaysian players has improved lately.
But now, after the World Championships Madrid 2006, he is a worried man. The funds that BAM gets might be a problem from now on. It will now depend on the results from the Asian Games Doha 2006.
Anyway, the Malaysian Asian Games Squad is now selected and the news is released today. Here is the link =

I remember @CCC-Supper, some 3 months ago, I told you guys that Jet Li plays badminton for his Kung Fu training. But some of you guys thought that I was only joking.
Here is a link (that Cindy Pearlman, of Chicago Sun-Times, reported yesterday, 24-Sep-2006) = http://www.suntimes.com/output/pearlman/sho-sunday-fiveq24.html.
In (3), Jet Li explains that he, as practised by DoublesPlease, plays badminton and rides bicycles for his Kung Fu workout routine.
Hi members@CCC-Supper,
I have been told that the link as required is not there anymore.
So, I thought I will copy that report for you.
Cheers... chris@ccc
====== start report ======
If we told you Jet Li's workout regimen included badminton, would you believe it?
September 24, 2006
There is an ancient saying about action actor Jet Li: You can break his bones and bruise his skin -- just don't touch his hair if you don't want a swift kick to some nether region.
"That's actually only a little bit true," Li says. "Years ago, I made a joke when I was doing the movie 'The One.' There was an old lady in the movie who was always trying to touch my hair. I joked with her, 'Everyone can beat me up. Just don't touch my hair.'"
Warning taken. "Oh, in my real life, I don't really care," Li says. "I'm a very easygoing person."
He's also a determined one in the new film "Fearless." He plays real-life martial arts legend Huo Yuanjia, son of a great fighter who didn't want his boy to follow in his footsteps. But to defend himself, the young man grows up to be a master fighter. Eventually through the death of his fight master and after some soul searching, he learns that it's about sportsmanship and not just kicking and kung fu-ing your nemesis to death. So much for street justice.
1. Tell us about "Fearless."
It's quite different from my other movies and it's my most personal work. That's why I say I want to do this movie. This character looks at life the same way that I do. We both know that life is a journey and it's really about using martial arts in the right way. It's not physically beating someone up. You have to mentally control yourself and then you win.
2. Do you ever wake up like the rest of us and say these words: "Oh my aching bones?"
I love when people at 50 say I'm better than a teenager. That's a big liar for you! Liar! Liar! Liar! Everyone gets old and, of course, you need more energy to do something. I have had a lot of injuries in the past, and they can act up. When I do too much, my muscles do bother me. I do wake up and go, "Oh, Jet, you're hurting." I hope that no one gets a shot of me and puts it on the Internet on those days. I know the headline will be: Action Actor Can Hardly Walk. But when the camera is turned on I do my best. Or at least I try. That's the fighting spirit in me. Age will never diminish that spirit.
3. What is your workout routine?
I'm not a treadmill type of person. I do work to have energy. I do physical martial arts moves in my gym. On many days, I just play badminton and ride bicycles. Oh, I'm an OK badminton player. It's good exercise. You find a partner and it helps you keep your balance and energy without hurting yourself.
4. Any truth to the rumor that you and Jackie Chan can't stand each other?
The Internet is always trying to make it seem like Jackie and I are angry at each other. I read that we yell at each other. It's not true at all. We're not only friends, but we're going to work together next year. We're going to make a Hollywood movie which we'll shoot in China next year. We've been talking about doing this for years. So much for this big feud between us. I guess it's better to read that something is wrong. It keeps the talk going and the fans go crazy. I hope I don't disappoint anyone reading the truth now.
5. You've credited meditation as the secret of your success. Explain.
I believe in many things. First, I'm a Buddhist. I believe in karma. I'm Chinese and I came to America 32 years ago. There are a billion people in China. Why is this one little boy named Jet coming to America? Answer: it's my karma to be with the American people. Later, I feel shame because I can't speak English. It took two years to learn it by heart. Even if my English is poor, I use my heart to try. Because I'm just following my karma. As for meditation, we all need a way to retreat. There is too much information in your head. Your head is like a recorder. Meditate as a way to wash it out and clear your mind. Try it.

Thank you for the invite, Chris :)
However, I am uncertain with my physical condition right now, as my body seems to be barely keeping up with my current badminton schedule (3x 3 hours a week). I think I need to get fit :).
I will see whether I will be able to in the next four weeks. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to attend any more sessions after that, as I would be moving to Brisbane in November :)
Many thanks :)

Badminton 2010-12 Project Squad: Rashid overload — BAM look at Indonesia
01 Oct 2006
K.M. BOOPATHY (nstsport@nst.com.my)
New Straits Times
RASHID Sidek’s continuous laments on the lack of coaches for his 2010-2012 Project Squad could be solved by January as the BA of Malaysia (BAM) is on the lookout for a couple of foreign coaches.
The news is that BAM could be heading to Indonesia again to head hunt suitable candidates.
While Indonesia themselves are looking for answers after their players failed to win a single medal in the World Championships recently, BAM want to further strengthen the Project squad which is being geared towards the 2010 Asian Games and the 2012 London Olympics.
Among the names being mentioned are Bambang Suprianto, who began his career as a singles player but later established himself in the men’s and mixed doubles.
His partners included Trikus Heryanto, Eng Hian, Halim Haryanto and even current Indonesian national coach Joko Suprianto.
BAM secretary P. Ganga Rao, although declining to reveal the names of the coaches, said that they are looking at foreign coaches for the Project Squad.
"Rashid has requested for the coaches and BAM is on the lookout for suitable candidates but everything is still at an initial stage," said Ganga.
"The local coaches are first priority but we could not identify a suitable candidate.
"We are looking elsewhere and it is becoming very difficult to get quality coaches these days.
"So far, Tan Kim Her has agreed verbally to coach with us next year and it will be at least a month before we can identify others."
Kim Her, currently in South Korea as their men’s doubles, had stated his interest to return after the Doha Asian Games and will be in charge of the Project Squad’s doubles squad.
Rashid has been requesting a singles coach as he is handling 17 men and women’s singles players with the assistance of Tey Siu Bock since March last year.
However, five men’s singles players were dropped in August but the number will increase again next year when the juniors from Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) are drafted into the squad.
The recently retired Candra Wijaya is another option for BAM but the shuttler is keen to move to the United States and probably resume his partnership with Tony Gunawan.
That points to Bambang.

Danish test for Wong Choong Hann
By RAJES PAUL
PETALING JAYA: Veteran men's singles shuttler Wong Choong Hann (pic) will be making a return to competition at the Denmark Open from Oct 31-Nov 5.
After a three-month rehabilitation cum light training programme to recover from an Achilles’ tendon rupture, Choong Hann said he was ready to challenge his opponents on court again.
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2006/10/2/sports/61wong.jpg
“My name has been entered for the Opens in Denmark and Holland (Nov 7-12). By competing in these two tournaments, I will know where I stand at the competitive level,” said the 29-year-old.
The lanky shuttler picked up the injury in the match against Jang Young-soo during Malaysia’s quarter-final tie against South Korea in the Thomas Cup Finals in Japan in May.
Malaysia went on to win 3-2 but Choong Hann had to fly back home for surgery.
Due his quicker than expected recovery, he was even considered as one of the candidates for this year’s Asian Games, which will be held in Doha from Dec 1-15, but Choong Hann did not want to take the risk.
“I am itching to play at competitive level again but at the same time, I do not want to take a big gamble by aggravating my injury. I am still going for rehabilitation although I am able to play better now.
“It is now time to put my fitness to the test in the two tournaments,” added Choong Hann, who has dropped to 40th in the world rankings list.

Changing username:
after the mystery of figuring who's who (Robbo77 was solved at the end) for new players, this certainly can be a lot more fun (or confusing) for everybody.
Then again, we "know" who are the active CCC board participant, do we not?
To Jason K (my partner on friday nite)+Chris:
On ducking - important skill while you duck the shuttle when you get out of the way while expecting your partner to smash past where your head is 0.1 second ago
While having so many "ducking" episodes, Chris might want to integrate this in his miscellanous chapter besides picking up shuttle, passing shuttle (yeah man, i am still learning).
Following are things that "ducking" might come in handy
- you might try to duck to fool your opponent for thinking you gonna smash, might be effective
- in mix doubles position, ducking before the serve would be quite good as it gives your partner more space for serving
- if you dye your hair in white and put face paint in white (same color as shuttle), that's gonna be pain in the butt for people to keep track of you before returning the shot
We all get hit on behinds, shoulder, but hit on the head or neck might not be so much fun afterall. Anyone can recall an incident for that?

How was our mid-autumn festival celebrations?
Hi LilyC and LisaC,
On the subject of the mid-autumn festival celebrations...
Here is a report from CCTV.

Chinese families reunite http://www.cctv.com/images/media.gif (http://www.cctv.com/video/NewsHour/2006/10/NewsHour_128_20061006_3.shtml)

http://www.cctv.com/english/20061006/images/100644_n02.jpg There are still two days left of China's National Day Holiday. And today is the Mid-Autumn Festival, a traditional day for Chinese families to reunite. Many overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan have travelled long distances to return to their hometowns and join family celebrations. There's an old Chinese saying that goes, the full moon is brightest in your hometown. And so many compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan have returned to their hometowns for joyful family reunions.
Taiwan resident Mr. Xie said: "It's a wonderful thing--family reunions. I hope direct flights across the Taiwan Straits will become a reality soon, so the trip home will be more convenient for me."
Some Taiwan Hakka people have returned to Mei-zhou of southern Guangdong Province, where the Hakka originated. In a traditional ethnic home, generations of families are happily celebrating together.
Taiwan resident Long Zhenshui said: "It's very meaningful, spending the festival with my family in this ancient building."
Taiwan resident He Peicai said:"People on both sides of the Taiwan Straits belong to the big China family. Besides reuniting with our families, we also hope for the reunification of China."
http://www.cctv.com/english/20061006/images/100644_n01.jpg Symbolizing reunions and fortune, mooncakes are an important tradition for this holiday. People across China's mainland have made mooncakes that range in size from home-made delicates to huge, nearly 200-kilogram ones.
Tonight, major Chinese cities will light thousands of flower lanterns to celebrate the festival, as families reunite and celebrate the full moon.

Hi everyone@ccc,
I've just received a report from a good friend... VERY SCARY.
Here is the report.
Cheers... chris@ccc
====== start report ======
Everyone, please read this.
It is not only happening in Australia but around the world.
Be safe! What a world! Please read...
A few weeks ago in a movie theatre in Melbourne a person sat on something that was poking out of one of the seats. When she got up to see what it was she found a needle sticking out of the seat with a note attached saying a quote; You have just been infected by HIV quote.
The Disease control Centre in Melbourne reports many similar incidents have occurred in many other Australian cities recently. All tested needles are HIV Positive. The Centre also reports that needles have been found in the cash dispensers in ATMs.
We ask everyone to use extreme caution when faced with this kind of situation. All public chairs/seats should be inspected with vigilance and caution before use. 17 people have been tested positive in the Western suburbs alone in the last 2 months!!! A careful visual inspection should be enough.
In addition they ask that each of you pass this message along to all members of your family and your friends of the potential danger.
We all have to be careful at public places! This is very important.
Just think about saving a life of someone even you don't know by forwarding this message.
Please, take a few seconds of your time to pass it along.

Hi BadFever,
I have redirected you question to my friend.
She works in New Zealand at the Counties Manukau District Health Board. It consists of a whole region of general health clinics in South of Auckland, the Manukau Super Clinic.
Since New Zealand is 2 hours ahead of our Australian Time, she would have just left work.
I will inform you when she replies tomorrow.

I have heard of rumours of this one years ago from friends.
To CCC:
With respect to the interclub comp, Merisa have asked me how many people should she have in her team. I said 6. Then she ask when can the interclub comp happen and i said it depends on who can be included in her team. I told her that Tim+Merisa are way too strong since they got C mixed runner up and CCC bottom end supposed to be D grade.
Then, i guess i would be waiting for you to tell me whether Keith and his wife and Yoyo would be too strong for our friday group.
At the moment i only have Helmut, me, Chiranthi, Lewellyn, Ned and hopefully LilyC when she come back.
If i convince Morgan+Matthew to join (which they both haven't) they are gonna kick butt. I have a feeling Matthew is too strong for Keith and his group though. Morgan should be alright though. And Keith might be too strong for Lewellyn+Ned.
Let's hope we can get more member in coming weeks!

May I know how do you define the different grades A, B, C, D etc.
We have a 'Special' machine named Chris. The players will play a game and after the game, our machine, Chris, will beep and will display or voice out which grade is each player. 90% accuracy! :p

Other than the machine mentioned by Badfever, we do have another hi tech gadget called Kevinsmashometer. It is just like a chip inserted into a soccer ball to measure the spin when taking corners and freekicks. This machine measures the speed, angle and force of impact when chips are inserted into shuttle and racket. A series of statistical measurements help to gauge the grades to a confidence level of +-5%.
It is named after the inventor who got pretty sick of being smashed.

Anyway, Chris used to go around to different places and do grading to different playesr in NSW before. Hence, that's why he can look at you and say what grade you can play in comp.
Finally, someone reply regards to my post!!
With this Kevinsmashometer, do you get badfever or goodfever if you are being smashed?

Kaptain Hung, I find it a bit funny that you actually keep to date your handicap points. Can explain why?
Also, there is this matter that I meant to *encourage* you a bit. If you are planning to improve and play competition, don't just keep playing in the lowest grade all the time. You will never improve this way. Have you notice any improvement playing now then playing 12months ago??? You have gone thru enough training. Time to harness your skill.
You should strive to improve your skill and aim to play at higher level. One of the way to do so is to play with better players in a competition. If you play only socially with a better player, he will always lower his standard to suit you. But in competition, he will play his best. So, next time you go to join a competition, if no grade D, then join grade C. The worst you can get is 10 times more body/head smashed. :p

Hey Chris:
Aggregating the handicaps at the start of each night is straightforward, how do you calculate the divvy up bit at the end?

Hi LisaC,
Hope that you and LChow had exercise and fun at the dance concert.
I will be preparing to make a report for last night's CCC Friday Nlght Social soon.
Again, I was the odd player out and had to do all the hard dancing around the badminton court by myself... 2-against-1.

Hey Chris:
Aggregating the handicaps at the start of each night is straightforward, how do you calculate the divvy up bit at the end?
DP
My understanding is this
Calculated @start (+2) = [(+4)+(0)] divided by 2.
Match 11 moved to (+6) Won against Angelo-Y & Joseph-S.
See i was starting (+2) end with (+6). and my personal score was +4. Hence moving 4 points (from +2 to +6) towards the positive direction, so move personal score from +4 to +8.
Hope that solve the confusion.

Hey Chris:

Hi DoublesPlease,
Firstly, I have to stress that players should choose partners of equal strength/skill. Otherwise their matches would not/could not be as enjoyable. Opponents will just play the weaker player and leave the stronger player out of the game.
I have explained to Loh how our CCC Handicapped Competition works.
Below, you will find the explanation;
====== start explanation ======
Firstly, the competition is a perpectual one, continuing forever. And movement of handicapped points are by 2 at a time.
Let me first explain for the Singles Competition. And we play under the NSS.
When 2 players, (A & B, say) first enter the Competition, they start with Staring Point(SP) of zero.
So, when A & B play each other, it's Love-all, since we give to all new players, SP=zero. So their game is like a normal game.
If A beats B, then A will have an attained SP=-2, and B's SP=+2.
If they play each other again, their starting score for their game will be A(Love):B(4), ie A has to give B a 4 point start, 4 being -2 minus +2.
If A beats B again, then A will have an attained SP=-4, and B's SP=+4.
And if they play each other again, their starting score for the game will be A(Love):B(8), ie A has to give B a 8 point start, 8 being -4 minus +4.
So if A now plays Kevin(Kevin's SP=-8), their starting score for the game will be A(4):Kevin(Love), ie Kevin has to give A a 4 point start, 4 being -8 minus -4.
If A beats Kevin, then A will have an attained SP=-6, and Kevin's SP=-6.
If they play each other again, their starting score for their game will be Love-all, ie no handicap given.
But now B wants to play Kevin, so their starting score for the game will be B(10):Kevin(Love), ie Kevin has to give B a 10 point start, 10 being -6 minus +4.
We set limits to the SP, which are -8 and +8. So when 2 players, X & Y, X with SP=-8 and Y with SP=+8, play each other, their starting score for their game will be X(Love):Y(16), ie X has to give Y a 16 point start, 16 being -8 minus +8.
I devised this system because I do not want our stronger players to muck about with our weaker players.
And this system will allow a more challenging game for the stronger player, to keep his/her interest up.
To the weaker players, they should find that the system will give them an indication on their progress in Badminton over the months/years of play. But this is subject to the true/honest play that we get out of our stronger players. I usually discourage stronger players to muck about when they play at CCC. They should show respect to weaker players by playing their best, with the exception of no aggressive smashes at weaker ladies.
But to administer the CCC Handicapped Competition can be hard work. Wait till I get to explain the Doubles Competition, as I will do now.
Let me first explain that the SP is like an identifying number for each player. And let us look at 4 players with different SP's, say A(-8), B(-4), C(0) and D(+8).
So if A partners B, their SP will be -6, calculated from (-8 plus -4) divided by 2.
And C and D will have an SP of +4, calculated from (0 plus +8) divided by 2.
So if they play each other, their starting score for the game will be A&B(Love):C&D(10), ie A&B have to give C&D a 10 point start, 10 being -6 minus +4.
And if team A&B wins, then A&B will have an attained SP=-8, and C&D's SP=+6.
And I hope that they will continue to play as fixed pairs to the end of the night. This is because of the recalculation that I have to do when their partnerships dissolve.
Let us say that the game above, A&B beating C&D, was the last game of the night. So how do I recalculate their individual SP's before the start of our next session?... I will explain below;
Firstly, let me remind you of their original SP's, A(-8), B(-4), C(0) and D(+8).
Because A&B won their game, their SP(combined) has improved from -6 to -8. So, A and B should move to -10 and -6 respectively. But, of course you remember that we have set a limit of -8, so their final SP's will be -8(for A) and -6(for B).
Similarly, C&D having lost their game, their SP(combined) has gone from +4 to +6. So, C and D should move down to +2 and +10 respectively. But, again you remember that we have set a limit of +8, so their final SP's will be +2(for C) and +8(for D).
====== end explanation ======
So, going back to Post#173.
hkhung(+4) partnered Yong-Y(0), giving a partnership(+2).
At the end of the session, their partnership finished from (+2) to (+6), that is their partnership Handicapped Score has moved down by 4 points... so hkhung should move down by 4 points, from (+4) to (+8), and Yong-Y should move down by 4 points too, from (0) to (+4).
That is... each of them moved down by 4 points, that is the MAIN MOVEMENT.
Hope you can figure this out...
Cheers... chris@ccc

Hi yschin,
Here is an article about Hafiz's training for Asiad Badminton 2006.
Cheers... chris@ccc
====== start article ======
The Star Online
Hafiz trains at Bukit Jalil in preparation for Asiad badminton
PETALING JAYA: Men singles shuttler Mohd Hafiz Hashim will get off to a fresh start in his preparation for the Asian Games after the Hari Raya celebration.
The 24-year-old Hafiz has decided to stay at Bukit Jalil - together with the other members of the Asiad team, who are gearing up for the Games, which will be held in Doha from Dec 1-15.
By staying in, he will also train on a regular basis with the national team.
The other men singles in the fray are Lee Chong Wei, Kuan Beng Hong and his elder brother Roslin.
Previously, the requirement for Hafiz was to train twice (two sessions) with the national players. But sometimes, the arrangement varied depending on coach Misbun Sidek's training programme.
Hafiz, who checked into the centralized camp in Bukit Jalil on Friday, said the decision to move base would help him to stay more focused in his preparation for his second Asiad.
"All the facilities - training centre, gymnasium and medical center - are in Bukit Jalil. I aim to improve my physical condition. I do not have to worry about food too. For next one month, I plan to be more focused," said Hafiz.
"But whenever required, I will train at Kelana Jaya (the training centre of the Nusa Mahsuri players). But certainly, there will be more sparring sessions with the national team - right up to the Asiad," he said.
After losing to Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia in the quarter-finals at his debut Asian Games in Busan Games four years ago, Hafiz is determined to win a medal.

Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell spice up their relationship by playing badminton.
The couple - who have been together since August 2004 - say they’re addicted to the racquet sport and love to play for hours.
Jerry, 32, revealed to People magazine: “I can’t believe I’m saying this publicly but we play a lot of badminton.”
‘X-Men’ star Rebecca added: “We can do it for an entire weekend. We’ll play for four hours a day straight.”
Jerry also revealed he and Rebecca have become addicted to ballroom dancing.
He confessed: “Rebecca and I are really into the TV show ‘Dancing with the Stars’.
“We’ve been taking ballroom dance lessons as a result.”
The pair, who are due to tie the knot, have decided to ditch lavish wedding plans for something more low-key.
Jerry explained: “It’ll be something very small, with just our siblings. Rebecca has a sister and I have a brother.”
Rebecca, 33, recently revealed she is desperate to start a family.
She explained: “I can’t wait. It is actually getting to the point where I get tears in my eyes when I see a pregnant woman. “Family is a priority for me.”

IBF FEATURE
SALLY YEH IBF'S WINNING FORMULA
13th July 2006
Sally is a woman who has stood the test of time. Her voice is amazingly beautiful, exceeded only by her physical beauty
http://www.badmintoninternational.net/NewsEditor/Data/405-IMG_4640-b.jpg
So says an adoring Canadian fan of Sally Yeh, beauty queen, actress, songstress and more recently the International Federation’s first Ambassador of badminton. But what this gentleman from North America fell short of highlighting was the fact that Sally is also an articulate speaker, a great public relations personality and has badminton written all over her - being a player herself and a staunch supporter of one of America’s most popular and vibrant clubs – the Golden Gate Badminton Club.(Image :Dr. Kang welcomes Sally to the IBF)
Anyone who has had close contact with this exceptional lady will tend to agree with this summation of the multi-talented Sally, and that probably is why the IBF zeroed in on the Taiwan-born Canadian beauty from a long list of potentials when the world body was scouting around for someone most suitable to help ‘sell’ the sport to a wider international audience.
Says Punch Gunalan, deputy president of the IBF, “She is an amazing person with a genuine desire for the sport and our interest. I was very impressed with her the very first time I met her. She has excellent understanding of the sport - she plays the game quite well, but more importantly she appreciates our needs and believes that she has the capacity to respond to our desires.” And council member Eraj Wijesinghe was quick to add, “We want our sport to entertain the audience and Sally looks the right person to help us reach that point. She is intelligent, inventive with enormous experience in public relations and promotions. She is a lovable ‘extrovert’ with a bundle of energy. As an entertainer, she is loved by the public and has a great following.” So, who is this lady, Sally Yeh the IBF literally ‘fell in love’ with.(Image: With Kang, Punch and former Olympians)
http://www.badmintoninternational.net/NewsEditor/Data/765-IMG_4828-b.jpg
Sally was born in Taiwan in 1961 but grew up in Canada. When on a holiday trip to the Chinese island in 1978, a local film producer saw her at a fried chicken outlet and asked if she wanted to be in a movie. That was to be the start of a career that spanned more than a decade and included such memorable films as Shanghai Blues, for which she received nomination for Best Actress and The Occupant, both released in 1984, Two years later she reached the pinnacle of her film career when she was adjudged Best Actress for her performance in Peking Opera Blues. Some years later, she played the role of a blind piano-bar singer in John Woo’s production The Killer, released in 1989 which received wide acclaim in the West.
http://www.badmintoninternational.net/NewsEditor/Data/780-IMG1_4931-b.jpg
Speaking of her involvement in films, Sally says, “I was probably the only English-speaking Chinese in the Asian entertainment industry. And standing a foot taller than many other performers, I was perceived as "interesting."(Image : A winning combination – Sally & Bang Soo Hyun)
Though her film career brought her much fame and a legion of fans, Sally was destined for something different in show business. “While acting I was also singing and I realized that I was good at that too.” She must have been because since she started professional singing in the early 1980s, she has done 30 albums, plus forty-odd compilations and live recordings. Apart from a good record track of original hits, Sally Yeh has also done a number of Western songs. She holds the distinction of being the recipient of Hong Kong’s ‘Best Female Singer’ award four times.
This Taiwan-Canadian charismatic beauty attributes much of her ability to live up to the demands and competitiveness of the world of entertainment to her inherited Western culture. “I had a lot of American character in me - which was very open dialogue, not afraid to do or say this or that, at a time when everyone was still very traditional and introverted. I believe those brought me some plus points in my association with the entertainment industry.”
But what about the IBF; how did she get involved in it? “It was rather easy for me to say ‘yes’ to Punch when he approached me to be a part of the IBF effort to further enhance the popularity of the sport world-wide. Believe me, badminton is a great sport, I love it and I play it. It is one of those sports that helps keep me trim and fit, helps me work out a sweat in double-quick time and yet provides me much entertainment and fun.”
But while accepting that the sport has made great inroads in recent times, Sally still believes that much more needs to be done to make it really a ‘chart-topper’. “We who play the sport know how exciting it is; a great lot of our fans, who watch it, know that too. But the larger population probably looks at it as just another sport,” expresses Sally with an air of resignation. “This is unfortunate because badminton has a whole range of qualities that some sports do not and yet they enjoy greater spectator and sponsor participation.”
Why so? “I probably will point a finger at ‘packaging’. The sport needs proper packaging. We accept that badminton is an exquisite game with beautiful people playing it. Just look at the girls – they are beautiful. So we have to look at the image side, the presentation of the sport becomes very important. We need to incorporate the excitement and the beautiful people into one wholesome deal. And of course the TV and radio commentators can help. They are in the best position to inject ‘emotion’ and excitement through their presentation. Put all these together and we have a winner!”(Image : The multi-talented Sally in ‘pocho-pocho’)
http://www.badmintoninternational.net/NewsEditor/Data/327-IMG_5606-b.jpg
“The sport has the ingredients to win markets. The American market for instance is there for the asking because those in the West are basically sports-cultured. Badminton incorporates speed with aggression, agility with accuracy, stamina with intelligence and these are winning points in any market, let alone American”, says Sally.
Sally Yeh is conscious of her responsibility to the world body. “We need to change the mind-set of the public and our marketing strategy, create a new identity for the shuttle game – we are talking about a new awakening and I am here to help the IBF achieve that.” And Sally Yeh is a proven winner!

TAKING fans by surprise, Sally Yeh beats Wang Lian Xiang during the official opening of the IBF headquater in Kuala Lumpur. Or are they sandiwara ( Malay word for play acting).
Wikipedia:-
Lucia Francisca Susi Susanti (Chinese (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_language): 王蓮香, pinyin: Wang Lian-xiang, born in Tasikmalaya (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasikmalaya), West Java (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Java) on 11 February (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/February_11) 1971 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1971)) was an Indonesian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indonesia) badminton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Badminton) player. Sometimes her name is also spelled Susy Susanti. She won the Olympic Gold medal for woman's singles in the 1992 Olympic in Barcelona and the bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Games. She is married to Alan Budikusuma (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Budikusuma), who also won a gold medal winner in 1992 Barcelona Olympics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_Barcelona_Olympics).
Often considered the finest female badminton player Indonesia produced, Susanti dominated the women's singles event in the early 1990s, winning the All-England in 1990, 1991, 1993 and 1994, the World Grand Prix from 1990-1994, and the World Championships in 1993. She also led the Indonesian team to win the Uber Cup in 1994 and 1996.
Currently she is running a badminton racket maker company with her husband called Alan Susy Technology (Astec).

Am I thinking the right Sally Yeh as you guys here?
葉倩文??? I'm so surprised!!!
It's her alright, in fact i remember seeing a fan giving her a giant shuttlecock as a present in a concert.
*hkhung talked about gathering players from our various CCC venues to form his team for our Inter-Club Matches.
It's more like hkhung "prayed and begged" about gathering players to form a team.

Hi hkhung,
If you are to ask other CCC trainees to join your team, you should first ask those trainees from our Wednesday CATS@Waverley, since they all live closer to Waverley.
Most of our trainees at our CCC@Boroondara live in the Eastern Suburbs, like Balwyn.
And, most of our trainees at our CCC@MSAC live in the Western Suburbs, like Altona, and the Southern Suburds, like Sandringham.

I am trying to organise another interclub comp against another club. I wonder whether you like to join my team. Please let me know.
If you like to join, let me know about your final exam date.
Time: after your exam (4 weeks from now on) so all your uni people can come
location: CCC@Waverly

Will do. In fact Helmut and Hai Feng has already said yes. And Ramond said yes if it's after the exam. That means i only need 4 more then, shouldn't be too hard since there's still 4 weeks to organise.
I am worried whether Merisa can get 4 pairs though. This past sunday she only had another person plus me for one court. Just goes to show how difficult to organise these things.
By the way, do you have Merisa's email address?

Badminton: Change of partners for Doha
By LIM TEIK HUAT
PETALING JAYA: The World Championships bronze medal winning mixed doubles partnership of Koo Kien Keat-Wong Pei Tty will not feature in the Doha Asian Games.
Instead, Kien Keat will partner former national women’s doubles player Joanne Quay while Pei Tty will combine with Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari.
Yesterday, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) also got the nod from the Olympic Council of Malaysia to submit the names of doubles players Fairuzizuan, Lin Woon Fui and Tan Boon Heong as replacements for Choong Tan Fook, Lee Wan Wah and Chan Chong Ming.
Fairuzizuan and Woon Fui, who were the runners-up in the World Cup in China last week, will be the first men’s doubles pair while Kien Keat will form the second ranked combination with Boon Heong.
Tan Fook, Wan Wah and Chong Ming have been dropped from the squad because of poor form.
Kien Keat-Pei Tty have been playing together for some time and splitting their partnership is certainly a surprise.
National chief coach Yap Kim Hock said: “Joanne is a good mixed doubles player and we felt that it will be good to test a partnership with Kien Keat at the Asian Games.
“Joanne did well in the mixed doubles with New Zealand’s Daniel Shirley in the Japan Open recently. We believe that with Kien Keat, we will have a strong partnership to challenge for medals in Doha.”
Joanne of the Kuala Lumpur Racket Club (KLRC) teamed up with Shirley to score a first-round victory over world number five Thomas Laybourn-Kamilla Rytter Juhl of Denmark at the Japan Open.
Kim Hock added that they also wanted Pei Tty to concentrate more on the women’s doubles with Chin Eei Hui.
“We felt that Pei Tty-Eei Hui stand a very good chance to win a medal. Pei Tty will still play in the mixed doubles with Fairuzizuan but her emphasis will be on the women’s doubles,” he said.
On the inclusions of Fairuzizuan, Woon Fui and Boon Heong, Kim Hock said that it would be a good experience for them.
“The younger players have been performing better than the seniors in recent times and this is a good chance for them to come up,” he said.
“The experience will be good for them, especially when we have the SEA Games and Sudirman Cup (mixed team) competitions coming up next year.”
The four singles players in the men’s team for the Doha Asiad are Lee Chong Wei, Mohd Hafiz Hashim, Kuan Beng Hong and Mohd Roslin Hashim.
The other members of the women’s team are Wong Mew Choo, Julia Wong, Norsyaliza Baharum, Lim Pek Siah and Ooi Sock Ai.

I guess she would be able to join then. Then i only need 3 more for 4 pair.
On a side note, Merisa only had 2 person for her group on sunday. So 3 people for one court - 2 hours. Another group had the same problem, what a conincidence!! Merisa manage to pick these 2 people to join her group.
Just goes to show how difficult when people don't have a system for contacting each other for coming or not. Kind of bringing back the old memory from ccc@box hill? Don't u think?

Hi everyone@ccc,
I will try to ask Monica-H to play. She, like LilyC, would have finished exams by then.
Perhaps, Llewellyn-H will be OK to play by then too.
Based on what hkhung has posted, and if LisaC can play, I thought I will suggest the following partnerships/combinations to play, simply because they have partnered each other before and because they understand each other's gameplay.
(1) hkhung & David-Z
(2) LisaC & LChow
(3) LilyC & helmut
(4) Monica-H & Llewellyn-H
Highvale said they could come with 9 players, and I replied that their odd player could partner one of CCC@Waverley players.
Please remember that we want a Friendly Match, not Battle. ;)
And Highvale is also under CCC(Chris' Coaching and Care). We could have called them, CCC@Highvale. :):):)

Chris, has LilyC been turning up on sunday lately? Hope she can practice with Helmut this coming friday.
For a suggestion, if there are 3 hours available instead of 2.5 hours. What we gonna do for the extra time. Anyluck getting some single from highvale? Or how about putting the top 2 ranked team in a best of 3.
Highvale said they could come with 9 players, and I replied that their odd player could partner one of CCC@Waverley players.
OK, let me get the maths right, my understanding is that my team gonna have 4 pair against the 4 pair from highvale. But highvale gonna bring 9 player. And u said the extra
Hypothetic the extra highvale pair with another from waverley. What's the extra pair gonna do? Cheerleading?
Please remember that we want a Friendly Match, not Battle.
What's that supposed to mean? No face mask or war cry is allowed?

BadFever and kong-19 came along with me to their Melbourne Cup Eve Supper last night.
It was a good supper, with 11 in attendance, and welcoming first time to Wesley Club Supper; kong-19 and Anna Lam.
And kong-19 said he will attend our B-Grade Wednesday Night Social on 8-Nov-2006.
Cheers... chris@ccc

To LilyC, Lisa+Laurie:
Thank you for letting us know in advance.
To Chris:
I thought LilyC still goes to CCC@Msac at the mean time while missing waverley.
Chris, i wonder do you have a backup plan if only 5 people are available for my team. Maybe pull a member from the middle of our club and play two against one?
Hopefully it all settle down this friday (both LilyC coming to friday as well as Lisa+Laurie confirming). Thankgod they are all using this board to communicate.
Without jumping ahead of myself, next time if we do not enough places for people in interclub comp, we might have to give preference to the member who check this board.
Chris, you and I still gonna sit down and work out things that are of caution last time like
- not letting anybody to be right behind the back tram line
- not letting anybody who are not playing to be near the court
I would like to focus on the positive are say what we should do but those things are pain in the ass for organiser as a safety level. On that note, that probably would be more important than not letting casual play for wesley considering the money you gonna get sued.
Man, i am already sweating.
P.S highvale only got one extra, right?

Hi hkhung,
Why are you sweating ???:confused::confused:
I said that I take care of the trainees@Highvale as much as I take care of the players of CCC@Waverley.
Don't worry !!! :):):)
We can even mix everyone up and have an Enjoyable and Friendly Match.

Hi hkhung,
Perhaps you are not scrolling back the thread, as I have told you before, to read posts that you have missed.
It appears that there is some missing link in your understanding of what is going on. :):):)

Hey Chris,
Was talking to the chief of JT Ultra who has a large group of players, mostly play in the Eastern Suburbs. Is keen to have a friendly match, maybe over the summer period. Can gather players of any standard male & female... so there's an upcoming opportunity.....

To all CCC members:
Details of Match;
When........Friday, 1-Dec-2006, 7:30pm – 10:30pm
Where......CCC@Glen Waverley (our own home ground)
Events......Doubles only
Opposition. ...... Marissa's club
Due to match with Highvale's club 17/11, Marissa's match would be on 1/12.
After talking to them on the past sunday, looks like they are gonna have 4 pairs no problem. Tim himself even said that he was gonna make it the week before (3/11) but too tired, so T+Marissa would hopefully be on this friday (10/11). Tim even said that on the match nite he would come along for the thrill.
As on last sunday, Marissa was at Queensland as on sunday so i just told them to talk to her about the match detail since they are all on mailing list (i think they communicate quite well on that one, then again - they only have maybe 15 old people on that list).
Looks like we gonna get a match happening. Now just have to go back and organise my team now.

Will do. Must ask Chris first whether i can include them though.
For a while i thought the board has gone really, really dead.

CHris, you should know this one well.
For old people who do not have good memory, reminding them that rarely helps. In fact, i think it's psychologically proven that make it worse.
