It was announced today that Kenneth Jonassen wont play at the world championship due to a knee injury he got during a team match tuesday night. He will be out from tournaments in 3 months :( . Sad since he showed good form in HK open

What???!!! KJ in HK open has shown fabulous form... He even made LD looked like a fool for several times... I believe he had worked very hard to peak in the WC... Really feel sorry for him.
Still remember his great performance in last year's WC. He was so well-prepared, destoryed his opponents in early rounds, and almost beated a peaked Taufik.

I dont know if any of you guys realized this before, but my friend and I have have found that Kenneth is to be the man "to beat" to win the WC. The past winners of WC titles were the ones who defeated Kenneth in the quarter final round of the tournament. Xia Xuanze in 2003, Taufik in 2005, Jonassen lost to both of them at the quarters.
However, with Kenneth gone...who knows lol:p

Only 2 week before the big event he is injured, really bad coincidence. Unfortunately moment but KJ will be back next year in KL,right? With KJ's absent so the top 8 seeding of MS will change and I think MAS's Hafiz Hashim probably fill KJ's position.

i don't think the 5-8 seeds change very much, only the new guy that comes into that seeding bracket i guess.
they other 3 already in there so not really be affected ...

Mette Schjoldager is also very doubtful and will problary also miss WC cause of a swallowed knee. Kinda bit of an irony that these 2 players which were seen as 2 of Denmarks best card as medal contenders gets injured during a team match where they normally plays at 50% to win. Sad and unlucky but maybe also not that serious to risk something that close to a WC, even Gade played with a half injured knee so I guess those team matches on homeground means more than we know of

A swallowed Knee, that must be painful!!:D :D
I guess injuries happen close to major events because they are training hard, so the Muscles can be weakneded and tired without the players feeling this, so even when playing at 50% capacity and small error can trigger a serious injury.

i'm sure he means swollen but yeah, what a shame ... hmmm, looks like the european contingent is significantly weakened this year ...

This is a real disappointment. Kenneth is very entertaining with his rock solid defence. And he was in such good form as well.:(

..sorry, didn't read Kwun's post..:p
Not sure I can understand why having such a competitive "close door" matches involving with veterans like Jonassen, really asking for trouble. I hope Team Malaysia don't do the same thing to Tan Fook/Wan Wah. Injury in sport is quite common but can be minimize in many ways like not to push to the limit on veterans during training ... Poor Jonassen as he was playing so well in Hong Kong Open and well like by many. Hope Jonassen recover soon.

Any insider knows the exact type of knee injury KJ is suffering?
Morten

the unlucky part in Jonassen getting injured wasnt because of too much training.. he was playing a team match and some sweat was lying on court which KJ unfornatuly rushed into and cause of that slamed his knee to the ground when he fell. Jonassen himself told he could hear a click in his knee and now 3 months of recovering awaits him:( . And no im not Morten frost but once I got his autograph in Danish Open 1994

It's sad to get injured in the process when you want to build your body stronger or more agile. Safety should always be the number 1 issue. Everyone no only professional athletes should take care of himself/herself when playing badminton.
