    IBC sets new era for badminton

    THIS year starts a new era for badminton in the city and province of Iloilo.

    Fifteen badminton enthusiasts from different fields formed the Iloilo-Panay Badminton Club, Inc. (IBC).

    IBC is a non-stock non-profit organization duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission. IBC is the pioneer badminton association in the city and province of Iloilo that will be accredited by the Philippine Badminton Association.

    During IBC's first meeting held on Sept. 7, 2006, the incorporators elected Gina S. Espinosa as IBC's first president.

    "We took the initiative by organizing an association to serve as a medium that will bring the Ilonggos to a level playing field in the sport of badminton. Its founders envisioned that the creation of IBC will not only benefit its members but also to all enthusiasts in the city and province of Iloilo. We are all excited about the programs that the officers planned out for the years to come." For its first program, IBC will hold the 1st Mayor Jerry P. Treñas Badminton Cup on Sept. 30, 2006 at the Citisports Badminton Court in Manduriao, Iloilo City. IBF rules will be applied. Tournament officials, umpires and line-judges are certified and assisted by the Philippine Badminton Association. "Strike when the iron is hot. Badminton is very popular now in the Philippines. We must join the bandwagon and as we say, health is wealth", Espinosa said.

    The purposes and goals of IBC are:

    To promote and generate public interest in the game, and encourage, promote and support greater participation in the game by holding tournaments, clinics, seminars, summer camps, training and workshops;

    To enhance and upgrade the level of skills of players, especially the youth;

    To work side-by-side with local, provincial and the national government and private organizations to attain common objectives;

    To provide assistance to schools in the promotion and development of badminton; and

    To conduct outreach programs in different communities by providing assistance in badminton and educational development of the youth in the city and province of Iloilo.

    For more information regarding IBC membership and registration for the 1st Mayor Jerry P. Treñas Badminton Cup, please contact Pablito Hilario at Tel. 509-6196. (Press Release)
